Shopping second hand, cooking at home, and not subscribing to multiple streaming services. Also we recently sold our house to be rid of our mortgage. We plan to build a tiny house and live mortgage free with reusable energy to cut bill costs. It's not for everyone of course, but it's been our dream for years! 🚪

Meal planning is such a game changer. I started doing it when I realized I'd come home from work and because I didn't plan ahead and thaw something out, we'd just go out to eat. We were going out WAY too much. Not only is it cheaper, but it's healthier too.

🚪 Just moved to a slightly smaller apartment after 7 years and 3 kids. I could not believe the amount of things we accumulated, and now we don't have room for half the stuff we own. I'm not looking to be a minimalist, just let go of the thneeds we've gathered, and strive to fill this smaller space with only that which gives us joy. Thanks for the inspiration.

I do that too Mariela! I keep a 'to buy' list on my phone, and make sure I write an item down on there and keep it for at least two weeks before I even consider buying it. It keeps me from buying so many things I don't even really want, let alone need!

I learned this from my dad, so I can't take all the credit... but, he always said if something is broken fix it! It is often way cheaper to fix a broken item than it is to buy a whole new one. Seems obvious, but I see my friends/family throw things out and buy new all the time. Try to fix it first, its already broken so why not at least try!

🚪all of these suggestions are good ones. I’ve sold household items on Facebook marketplace, and as an artist, I’ve sold things at craft fairs. Also, as an artist, I work at it every day now that I am retired, I recently organized my things and was amazed at how much stuff I have. (Dhhhh…..I do it every day, of course it accumulates!) I am good at making things, but not so good at marketing. Craft fairs are a limited option for me due to my age and abilities. I’ve set a goal for myself to be more proactive in trying to market. This was an encouraging video. I am happy to say I have finally become debt free, I mindfully thrift, and declutter and take advantage of free activities. The one thing I do on a regular basis is go out several times a week to practice sketching or whatever art challenge I give myself, and I combine that with a small lunch and visit with friends. My life happiness is so improved. Your videos are always so meaningful. Thank you. 💕🚪

🚪 I totally needed this! I have decluttered multiple times over the years, and end up with a house full of stuff again! I just decluttered again over the summer and would way rather have more in savings than to have a house full of stuff again. So, I am on a new journey!

Love the elephant and rope story. We are finding FREEDOM everywhere from starting our minimalism / getting out of debt / growing closer to Jesus. All very good points. My husband and I made saving a priority years ago and I am so grateful we did. We weathered several job losses, having kids, and finally when I got ‘retired’ from my career job we figured I didn’t have to return if we stuck to our budget. Since then I have taken up art and I am very happy. One tip I would add is asking a financial advisor or researching how much you really need to retire. I worked with so many people who stayed on years more than they should have because they were afraid to let go of their pay check.

I immediately invest every penny after replenishing my basic accounts to my set standards ($500 for 2 weeks and about $3500 for all monthly bills+ 1 month worth of emergency). This way I never spend more than I have set as my standards. I put away about $40k in investments when I had really crappy jobs over the course of a decade. When I got a good paying job, I kept the same standards and just kept investing. Now it’s about $90k after about 3 years and includes when I was laid off during covid for several months. Getting use to not spending money means I often never get to less than $200 for 2 weeks.

My husband and I have talked of him retiring in 3 years. But when we realized that his retirement plus social security would be about $100 less if he retires now, plus save on $150 a month on gasoline, we decided to look at it we could do it now. (He's under a great deal of stress, working the job of 3 supervisors in his own.) I told him we needed to do a month of no-spend. We still have our allowance, and there is one tool he still needs in his workshop. But we've only spent $3.21 eight days into the month. And it was something we were going to pick up at sometime, but for 3-5 times the cost.

🚪 some tips: meal planning based on food which is on sale. Throw away any ads which come with mail right away. Compare different companys for things like insurance/ tv, intenet… do not lease a car but buy it with cash or think about if you really need one. Check if the company you work for has any side offerings (mine offers a cheap mobileabo). Thanks Marissa!

🚪Hi! I've always had clean space around me, and I really enjoyed cleaning since I remember. I lived in a big house with my family and there was always a lot of space for things. Because of that I never really realised I was drowning with things I didn't need or used in years. From my old toys, books, board games, jigsaw puzzles, to clothes etc. I'm now in my 20s and no longer live with my parents, but I have some things in my old room. Thanks to your channel and videos , I managed to declutter my old stuff (or actually my current home and my old room!), I sold and donated so many things! I'm was so happy that my old and unused things made someone else happy. I'm also more conscious while buying new things and gifts for others. Thank you so much for your content! I feel much happier and lighter now. I also try teach my mom some tips but she is a tough hoarder 😅 (sorry for any grammar mistakes, I'm still learning english:)) Have a nice day to everyone who read this:)

The 30 day rule is SUCH a useful tool for avoiding overspending! It's so rare that we 'need' something in the moment. I also have this list in my phone and it keeps me from buying all kinds of things that I don't even really want, let alone need! I'm in the opposite situation, lol. My spouse and I do not have credit cards or other "commercial debt," which we've always been proud of. He's been working on his credit with a small personal loan for a new computer, which he recently paid off, along with his student loans. Then we had to replace our car at the beginning of the summer (after a series of vehicles over the last 12 years that had each cost under $2000 US cash, but over time have left me stranded, late to work, stuck in snow, stalling while driving, unreliable, or spun out on the freeway in a blizzard, etc) finally decided to bite the bullet and buy "a grown up car" with a service plan; first time we've had a car payment in about 15 years and I hate that feeling. Skip ahead to September, and the house we've been renting from family, well... they've decided to sell it; either we buy it at a good discount, or it goes on the market and we move out. ugh. So here we go into the scary housing market when the mortgage rates are sky-high and the timing with our credit history is not good. Wish us luck! 🚪 But on the bright side, I had started decluttering in July so that's kind of a weird, ironic bonus, I guess. I initially started downsizing for our mental and emotional health/wellbeing, and so we could organize the storage area in the house, which had become a dumping ground. Now it the process has a different purpose, and a timeline. yikes!

🚪I've been practicing minimalism for the last 2 years or so. It may be a slow process but I'm noticing changes and my thinking has changed too. I still have a long way to go until I reach my goal but I am patient because I know I will get there eventually and I'm loving the journey!

Would love a clean eating shop with me with big enough portions ;) I also have to keep in mind that my meal planning doesn't have to look like anyone else's. Our 2 boys have appetites of grown men and since we prioritize clean and organic food, we have a large grocery budget and buy a LOT of food. We don't waste anything, but I've sort of given up watching food hauls because they either feature low quality/unhealthy foods or assume kids have small appetites. Be the change Marissa!!

Goal : I want to declutter my physical space, as well as my mental / emotional space so that I create space and be open to what is possible. Great video! Thanks! We have a little credit card debt and I hate it. Our house and one of our cars is paid off so we don’t have a lot of debt overall but I hate the credit card debt so this is helpful. I’ve already stopped buying a few weeks ago and it feels amazing!

You can buy charcoal sticks on Amazon instead of Brita filters. They are compostable and can be used in any pitcher.

I strive to be a minimalist. Even though it may take me long time to declutter/sell all of the things I no longer need or want I know I am on my way to more of a clutter free home and space. I just sold 8 lengths of curtains that I will be shipping out tomorrow. I got back all the money I payed back in 2016 (ish) and the buyer payed money for the shipping (of course). There was a 50% sale back then when I bought them. The funny thing is that there was a 50% sale on the exact same curtains in the exact same store where I bought them in the first place at the same time the buyer bought them from me. So the person who bought them from me could have gotten brand new curtains from the store for the exact same price And saved their shipping costs.. I've been lucky a few times, and this was definitely one of those times. I am happy to have been able to sell them, and last but not least I'm happy I got all my money back. Looking forward to getting this package on its way to its new owner. 💰📦
