Agreed He’s probably the Most Iconic Male Singer of All Time 😂, but I don’t take these Rolling Stones list seriously they seem to just want to stir up controversy.
MJ gets overlooked as a vocalist because he was an otherworldly performer. But don't get it twisted...he was an exceptional vocalist too. I think the same thing happens to Beyonce tbh. Anyone who doesn't just stand and sing isn't thought of as a vocal technician...for some reason.
Yup! Both performers not basing their discography solely/ mainly on ballads like Adele or male equivalents made people doubt their abilities. Despite the technique and control required to perform the vocals live consistently with dancing and through long tours.
To Be Frank! Lol Michael Jackson Is Thee Greatest Singer Of All Time!👑🌟(That’s the power of MJ you can't really directly compare male to female singers. Because females are naturally in the soprano's range. However,no singer has a distinct tone, voice, character and range comparable to that of Michael Jackson. Every world class opera singer can sing like Mariah,or anyone for that matter But nobody can sing like Michael Jackson and still sound nearly as great as him in the history of mankind. This same applies to his live performances and dance moves etc.)
MJ at #86 is *BLASPHEMOUS!!!* Lyric Tenor with 4 octaves and 1.5 notes range that was outsinging grown adults when he was 11 and he’s not even atleast in the top 10?!?? NO CÉLINE DION EITHER??? Rolling stone will pay for their crimes man
@@soulmoney119Legal trouble & personal life aside no R. Kelly on the list is crazy. He’s one of R&B’s goats and is definitely one of the best vocalists I’ve ever heard.
Jazmine Sullivan has a voice that yo should only hear live in order to fully grasp the power, the beauty, and the complexity God put in her vocal hirds because she's this much crazy talent.
Remember when Rolling Stone tried to declare Harry Styles as "The New King of Pop"? Michael put his blood, sweat and tears into his music. Harry was in a boy band that placed third on a reality show. He did not earn that title, Michael Jackson is the one true king. 👑 We just celebrated the 40th anniversary of Thriller, he won a record 8 Grammys for that album. It still hold the record for best selling album worldwide, and they placed him at 86. With people like Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga above him...😤
Honestly the best thing about lists like this is just to learn about singers you've not heard of before or to be reminded of ones you haven't thought of in a long time
@@MyRuger that would make it more inaccurate. if it was a voting system then the most popular artists would drown out more obscure ones. taylor would probably be #1.

I was Literally ranting about this to my mother a few hours ago, as a singer myself who is not the biggest fan of Celine you can’t deny her Beautiful, powerful voice. I do agree with the number 1 choice, Aretha Franklin is the queen.
I think people forget younger him was the by far better singer, when he was doing a lot of basic love songs and covers. Just when you get the Quincy Jones production your vocals do not have to dominate the whole song. Edit: If you listen to the Ben Album it is better vocally to me then his 80's run even though thriller, off the wall, and bad have much better songs.

Na the AUDACITY that they put her at 61 and named the title best singers of time and proceeded to name99% American singers take her goddamn name off the way I ghasped when I didn’t see that she was in the top 3 and in the SAME list as tylor swift is wild
MJ yeah. Frank Ocean makes great songs and has great lyrics but his “voice” which is what this is about….is just ok. Better Question is D’Angelo on the list ?
Just leaving Celine Dion off the list made the whole thing invalid. Like Taylor Swift is on the list but not Celine? And there's no world in which Michael isn't top 50 unless you're doing some serious list padding. The list legitimately could have been 100 names shorter
It hurts as a fan but no, Riri isn't THAT good vocally and certainly not that CLOSE, 20ish spots? My Queen is the full package but she sings when she wants to, and not bc you want her to (iconic in its own right, but still).
Not having The Weeknd in the Top 100 at least is just nuts, but having Michael Jackson at #86 is CRIMINAL. That man was an elite singer as a child and only got stronger throughout his career. He's easily Top 20 if not Top 15.
@@_lessthanzero_ you’re just a hater he’s easily one of the greatest singers ever he’s literally dominating right now A top 30 or 50 singer isn’t gonna be having 90 million streams every month

MJ is top 20 at least. He was a great singer, consider also that he didn't have any kind of training he just knew how to do it since he was a kid and he always delivered. But yeah, Whitney Houston is the best singer of all time in my list also.
Michael Jackson did have a lot of training. Even when you're so naturally talented, training pushes you to that next level. I sing myself and also have heard from interviews about how many hours he put in.
Woke list although I don't disagree with the top 10 as such, but it was clearly have as many genres, genders and ethnicities as possible so as to not upset anyone. Celine Dion fans have a point but I would think any list that talks about longevity, impact etc as part of the criteria would include Phil Collins over Billie eilish any day of the week. And no sting? Was Elton on there, how about Billy Joel? Steve Perry? Grow up rolling stone
Beyonce is easily top 20 I'm not mad at it. people who say Beyonce can't sing have never ventured past her single ladies and crazy in love. we gon have to disagree on that shawnathan
@@paulh.9937 I love mike but top ten and 6 vocalist is pushing it. He’s not better than Luther, teddy pendagrass, Tom jones, Freddy mercury, Stevie wonder, Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Al green and very few more and that’s only the male vocalist I mentioned. Michael definitely should be top 30 or 20 tho.
@@moonrocked He's better than or equal to most of those guys you mentioned. Top 30 for Michael Jackson, who is arguably the most talented Pop singer in history is REALLY pushing it. A 9 year old Mike can hold almost anyone on this list, much less a prime Mike.
@@323096685 no he can’t. All the people I mentioned are high level star rated singers. I love mike but saying he’s better than those guys on a technical and power singing level level is definitely not true. He 100% percent can’t outsing Luther vandross, Marvin Gaye or Freddy mercury. Also mike being the most talented pop artist does not mean he’s outsing anyone I mentioned. He’s just a great overall talent but he not outsing non of those people.
That Rihanna at 68 or whatever and they put Kelly Clarkson at 194.....like, I get Rihanna is more commercially popular than Kelly but I don't believe many people have listened to a Rihanna song and be like, 'yep, one of the greatest singers of all time'. But with Kelly, that is always part of the conversation.
Beyoncé is a pitch perfect star rated vocalist. You do not understand the dynamics of singing. Beyoncé can sing in 4 octaves. You must only pay attention to her radio songs. You haven’t watched any of her live performances to even say she isn’t top 10. If you knew anything about scales you would see she’s a higher tier of a singer.
@@BroJo676 I didn't talk about mj, he is top 20 too, but I don't get the hate for Beyoncé. She is great and on of the all times greatest, however it doesn't mean Mj is better than artists who are influenced by him. He is one of the most influential in music history but I don't believe he is better than prince, Beyonce, Nina Simone, Whitney Houston, little Richard and a few more others.
@@talibin vocally no. you may like his tone, which is subjective. but beyonces technique, control, CONSISTENCY, head voice, etc put her far ahead of him
Frank Ocean at 190 is very crazy no matter how you look at this list, for musical genius or just pure vocals idk man. On that matter Weeknd and Michael Jackson on their spots aswell lmao.
Lady Gaga absolutely deserves her placement on the list. Just look at her countless amazing piano performances, her Oscar’s sound of music performance, her excellent national anthem performances, her jazz performances etc
Makes me think he hasn’t payed much attention to her over the years, I still see people discovering her vocal ability for the first time and are surprised. Many people still don’t know
Seeing you and Anthony’s immense relief at Whitney finally popping up at 2 has given me the strongest kind of catharsis imaginable lmao But I agree with your thoughts on the list, it’s a great catalyst for pushing a conversation into the public sphere about great singers from across the board, but a very flawed and imperfect one- especially coming from the dum-dums at Rolling Stone
One of the best in terms of another being unable to replicate. No one has been able to sing with the grit and pain like he was able to, just listen to any Nirvana cover
@@ZALAZA00 I've listened to the mtv unplugged performance its really good. In terms of best singers idk just dont see it, not to take away anything from kurt he's an amazing artist.
Abel literally oozes clarity, pitch and vocal range in his catalogue. His voice accoustically is unmatchable nowadays. Not claiming hes the best, but the facts he's not top 50 or 100 is insane (*EDIT*) guys read what i said again. never said he was the best, nor am I d riding. I'm just saying, it's crazy to me he isnt top 100. Now everyone calm the f down.
Bruh as far as Male Pop/RnB Artist of the last decade goes, he isn't better than Miguel, Bruno Mars or Usher especially when hearing him live. I would put him on level with Chris Brown, Ed Sheeran and such. They have great performance and attribute but aren't consistent and have clear fault. Nowadays, all The Weeknd does is belt the same note every song to make the song feel grandiose but when he's singing the verses he sound just average some time out of breath.
nah the weeknd at 110 is crazy, and Michael at 86 is even crazier, they gotta be trolling💀 they just want people to talk about it cause there ain't no way
Aaliyah deserves that spot. Her influence made what rnb is today, if she was your crush you would know her legacy, and everything she did. Facts. Period.
Uh nah. I was there. Her influence wasn’t that great. There’s always a bias attached to her like Selena. They were ok nobody would say she’s better vocalist than MJ
Ok, went through the full list and as a big fan of grunge music I'm happy about seeing Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, and Kurt Cobain but not having Layne Staley is criminal
I was gonna say this should’ve been a best artist list then I keep remembering Michael Jackson was at 86, also having Jazmine Sullivan and Kelly Clarkson that low is criminal regardless of the career you can’t deny those vocals at all. Justice for Amber Riley, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Tamar Braxton, half the gospel singing community Fr, Keke Wyatt, and Cynthia Erivo
I immediately spirtually connected to this when I saw Ice Spice at 1st. Not only is she the greatest artist of this generation, her talent will/should be studied for centuries and generational waves to come.
I’m just glad they didn’t white wash the top 20 like they usually do. However Micheal Jackson being 86 or whatever on the list is just most proof that the Industry felt treated by him and his greatness.
I spent hours researching whether Celine Dion is the Greatest Singer of our generation, or possibly of all time because some people put her at number 9 or 7 or so. And there are a number of people who put out these lists. Ultimately I put it away because people skirted around Aretha, Whitney and to a lesser extent Mariah. David Foster and Quincy Jones simply put it as a non-discussion meaning Dion is that far superior than all others. Other top artists laud Dion in her amazing talent as a technician, octave range and total control over all ranges, as well as creativity and projection. It is tough to pit someone at number one in this category but the fact people either put Celine as the greatest or can be called the best singer of all time, etc tells me she is. Ask Quincy and David Foster again someone. Bob Dylan? Willie Nelson? Gimme a break.
Wdyt about Beyonce and Adele and Ariana? Do they deserve to be on this list more than Celine? Idk seeing Bey got no 8 while Celine isn't even on this list is such a blasphemy
@@ranmasaotome2876 Obviously they are trying to gin up some controversy as Rolling Stone loses its credibility and possibly readership. It use to be up there in terms of good journalism and opinion pieces etc... This and other snubs in other categories puts them in the basement and they don't mind it so long as they make the news and get into the water cooler and coffee room conversations. I think Adele should be way up there. Top 3. The other two not so much. Celine is number one or two. In my mind Whitney was the only one that could compare. Mariah has been washed up for quite a number of years now. She rested on her laurels and expected the voice to always be there. Celine works on hers 24/7 usually.
Beyonce can actually do wayyy more with her voice than people give her credit for. I would easily put her in my top 20 for sure! Also, we've seen Michael Jackson from childhood and even young Michael was SANGING so put some respect on his name.
@@delvinfourcand300 I agree! People be SLEEP on her vocals. She has great range, control, pitch and can sing most genre's flawlessly. There's a reason many of the older legends(prince, mj, stevie, pattie, etc.) have sang her praises!
I always say that Beyoncé is under appreciated because people constantly complain about her being “over hyped” without ever trying to understand why the hype is there in the first place. As in they won’t give her music a chance, check out her live performances & will give a half assed skim through the music before declaring it “trash”. Shawn unfortunately falls in that category.
Bey def deserves her spot she’s incredible. But MJ at 86 is ridiculous and he should’ve been at least top 5. I really could NOT take this list seriously after seeing that 😂😂😂. And no Celine Dion or Janet like?😂😂😂
Beyoncé has a better technique than most of these people and just her vocal ability is amazing. Go listen to Start Over or I Was Here. She's definitely in the top 50. Seeing that female singers are better vocalists than male singers it is valid she's in the top 10. Also, when they say best singers I feel like sometimes they are only considering the vocal ability but other times the discography also counts. They have to make it clear what the requirements are for these lists.
One day Beyoncé will get the respect she deserves. Probably when she dies unfortunately. That woman is a star rated vocalist with almost flawless vocal technique. And people with no knowledge or expertise in the area want to discredit her all the time.
@@tink6225 omg, like it literally angers me. I just have to assume that these people are ignorant bc you cannot watch Beyoncé live and then say that dumb shit!
It depends on the singers one hears. If it's current pop singers then yes. If it's current singers that still end up on TV and sing to several thousand people at a time then no.
I hate when people who don’t sing say Beyoncé can’t sing. Beyoncé has some of the hardest songs to actually sing. She’s real technical and can get to sounding like a real powerhouse. To say she’s not even in top 50 is pure hate. She’s been an impressive singer since she was a child but now has a full understanding of her voice and fully utilizes it all the way down to the backgrounds. Everyone who really sings would agree that she deserves a top 10 spot. Let alone top 50.
I think people judge by how powerful a person's voice is, rather than their technical ability. People try to compare her to Whitney or Mariah and that's not even fair. In terms of technical ability, she's top tier.
Bro. Its not a nArRatIve that Beyonce is one of the best vocalists of all time. My man, its a fact. Please do yourself a favor and watch Beyonce’s best lvie performances and let’s return to actually discuss. ANYONE who is a singer would tell you that beyonce is a virtuoso with her instrument. Insane control. 4 vocal range. Intricate, precise melisma. Healthy Growls. Resonant Large Belts. Able to hold notes for above 20 seconds.Operatic Head notes. Strong lows. What more do yall want to recognize that the woman is talented as fuck performance wise, but also as a star rated vocalist. The blatant and delusional disrespect towards her is mind blowing to me. I guarantee people wouldn’t be so gung-ho to discredit her birthright talent if she was a male. Because like I said, Beyoncé being an amazing vocalist is not a matter of opinion, no, its simply a matter of being willing to accept the facts.
That part of the video was so cringy lmao. Both Ariana Grande and Beyonce are amazing vocalist and I dont even listen to ariana grande and im not particularly a fan, its just me not being purposefully obtuse and denying whats obvious

These lists are confusing because they try to amalgamation between vocal technicians, icons, unique voices, unique singing styles, trend setters, and popularity. Its probably better to just pick one of those criteria and go with that and explain that as your criteria because those lists look very different. If you are going by Icon then people like MJ and Freddie Mercury will be at the very top. On the other hand if you go solely off vocal technique then you probably would have a much different list (No Bob Dylan), especially if you are not just limiting to recognizable singers and include not so famous professional vocalist, like opera singers, that are more technical than everybody on this list.
Rosalía is a really talented singer that has proven herself and her talent for the 3 projects she's made, no reason not to put her on a top 200 singers list, especially if you're adding artists like billie eilish and taylor swift (still missing celine dion and young thug should be criminal)
Rosalia deserves her spot. she has one of the most beautiful unique voices I've ever heard. I recommend her first album Los Angeles for anyone interested
This list is outrageous. Having people like billie eilish and not Celine Dion or Jessie J? Tori Kelly, JoJo (since they did have Jasmine Sullivan)? What about Brian McKnight, arguably the most technically sound male R&B singer ever? They also largely ignored singers from groups besides David Ruffin because Wanye Morris was nowhere, I didn't see Timberlake either. How about Boyz II Men as a group? wild
Does anyone REALLY think Beyonce doesn't belong on this list? If you do, then I'ma need you to name 200 Pop vocalists who are better than her. Not artists...VOCALISTS. Hell...try to name 50 and see how far you get.
