Luke never had that problem and he continued getting stronger. I know if George Lucas were doing it and had stayed by the production he would've made sure Luke would actually leave that damn rock and go as a diversion to stop Kylo Ren. Even then he'd still be holding back while Ren goes all out. He, George, said that what he was going to do was have it be Kylo's redemption story, where he kills his father and turns fully to the dark, then once he's fought his master and uncle Luke Skywalker, in the sequel, he realizes the mistakes he's made and he then, realizing the darkness and ugliness that Rey has now turned to and fully invited in to her, this leads into a confrontation with Luke Skywalker. They would no doubt have a world breaking fight. Then, after that, the third one, which Lucas said was going to be Kylo, now back to being Ben Solo, go and help Finn, who he would become good friends and allied with, and he'd help his mother, Leia, stop the now-turned darkside Rey along with Sidious from destroying the world. That's a much cleaner and cooler way to get Luke to show his strength.

Rule of 2 era Sith will always have an edge over Jedi swordsmanship, because they imply many techniques and forms the Jedi don't train and have no idea how to defend against. Also, Plagueis a great duelist? According to whom? Tenebrous? Venamis? Sidious? Plagueis didn't really duel that much to be praised that much, Sidious had a hard time beating goddamn Yoda, although he was tired due to fighting Mace but, still, if you think about it, prequels era had not that many prodigies in the way of the saber.
@RealDutchBear Plo Koon won Yoda, it's stated many times that he was probably the best duelist of the order alongside with Mace but Mace had advantage over Sidious due to Vaapad being powered by the opponent's use of the Dark Side.

Every Sith on the Banite lineage was a master of all classic 7 forms. What really defines a duelist is their W/L score, in which, funnily enough only 4 people in Legends are known to have never lost: Malgus, Tulak Hord, Obi Wan and Mace Windu
For those who don't know Luke created his own style of lightsaber combat by taking a reinforced style of Form 1 Form 3 Form 4 Form 5 and Form 6 and blending them together Form 5 was actually the foundation or center of the style he created because like all Skywalker's he's gonna have the Form 5

Luke will always stay the best as the strongest duelist out there. He's stronger than his father, his fighting style is just too smooth, no aggression, and he can take out multiple opponents at a single time.

He also created his own lightsaber style that was so unorthodox than every Jedi he came across couldn't match it. He had the strength of a droid with the dueling skills of somebody like Yoda.

Anakin stomped him in 12 seconds and Obi Wan stalemated and way stronger version of Anakin. There's no argument for Dooku being a better duelist than either of them.

Obi Wan never stalemated him lol xD, there's a reason why Makashi is the direct counter to Soresu, Obi Wan can never defeat an opponent who doesn't use stamina relentlessly... Dooku focuses on cunning in combat, hence why Obi Wan can't use the style properly, I haven't seen a single instance of Obi Wan being close to besting Dooku, so yeah there are a LOOOOOOOOT of arguments to prove he is better than most versions of them, where Anakin has to be in his prime, Vader or Full Potential to beat Dooku, otherwise both are toast

It's never once stated in all of EU to have an effect on fights, it's not even implied. Obi Wan has also showed many times that he can beat his opponents without them using all their stamina. His fight with Krayt is a great example of this.

Mace Windu and Palpatine criminally underrated by you. They would walk all over many of the ones you put ahead of em. Yes, many of the old Republic era were amazing duellists, better than the prequel era by miles but Mace and Palpatine are timeless
