"Slipstream".......... I'm interested to know how "Horizon Chase Turbo" compares to "Slipstream", as they both seem to aim towards the same esthetic!............... Much to my dismay, "Wreckfest" isn't local split-screen....... I recall a fantastic demolition derby game on the original Xbox (name escapes me at the moment), my friends and I were very fond of.
If you have a 8Bitdo Pro 2, and a game allows remapping acceleration to right analogue stick, you can then use the 8Bitdo remapping to move the right analog stick to the analog trigger. Works wonders for GRID
Thanks for the advice! I'll need to consider looking into it for Switch gaming. Though I usually play games in handheld mode, so it would be nice if there was a work around for that.
Thanks so much for this list, Alex! As a big racing fan, I thought I would have heard of them all, but there were a few that I hadn't. I'm kind of surprised at your number one choice! I absolutely love that game but didn't think you'd rank it number one. I'm glad you enjoy it!
It’s a great list, and I own quite a few (well almost all) of them. One that you didn’t mention that is well worth getting is Rush Rally: Origins, from the same developer as Rush Rally 3, but purely playing as a top-down racer, and on top of that, it’s received a few updates that have added more course to it as well, just like Rush Rally 3 (and yeah, Rush Rally 3 is just outstanding). One thing that I would love to see come to the Switch, though it would be through the N64 games pare of the online expansion, would be World Driver Championship. I doubt it will happen, but if it did, there’s a great deal of value in that game.
@@SwitchCorner I really like V-Rally 4, although the media thinks, it's a bad game. HD-Rumble, Sound, Replay, Graphics and especially Track Design are great. Only some Pop Up / Rendering Issues, but I don't mind.
@ 24:00 - RE: GRID Autosport - you can take advantage of analogue acceleration and braking in the game *IF* you have (or are prepared to invest in) a wired Gamecube Controller and a Gamecube controller adapter. The adapter will need to be connected to two USB sockets, which the official Switch dock has.
I'm with you on Horizon Chase Turbo, it's one of my favourite racers EVER! When you're near the end of a race, juggling fuel/nitro, it's genuinely heart-pounding... I'm getting sweaty palms just thinking about it!
I totally agree with you about Grid. As for sci-fi racing games I really enjoy Star Wars Racer and especially that feel of speed. Something great. And for arcade my picks are Slipstream and 80s Overdrive.
There is also Rise, Race the future that is not a bad game. If you love very arcadish racing games check out Super Impossible Road. Also, an honorable mention to a small racing game featuring a certain plumber in it...
Cruis’n Blast, Hotshot Racing, Fast RMX, RISE: Race The Future. These are my top 4 that aren’t Kart Racers because the best Kart racer is Mario Kart 8 so there’s no need for any others unless it’s Diddy Kong Racing! Cruis’n Blast is the best Arcade Racer in years. I just wish it had more tracks. The additional tracks are just repeats of the arcade tracks with new visual assets. Shame. It’s one of the best Switch racing exclusives. Nintendo should buy Hotshot Racing that’s a close 2nd! Fast RMX is so dang good I just wish the color switching wasn’t there and only had boost strips and not speed traps. People wanting a new F-Zero and Fast RMX is literally that. That game is incredible! Last but not least is RISE: Race The Future. Rise is the best Rally racer on switch but with a more arcade vibe. Once you get the settings how you like it’s great and the wheels rise and you hover and glide over water that’s extremely fun. Rise reminds me of Top Gear Rally & Top Gear Overdrive on the N64. This new Nintendo era is lacking.. It’s sad that there’s only 4. Everything else is bad indies or just older ports. If there’s any other good ones I’d like to hear! Great Video by the way! Thanks!
I really find the Switch to be horrible for racing. The fact that the triggers are digital makes it impossible to properly control the cars. I have Burnout Paradise on my PC as well as on Switch. And I simply don't enjoy the game on Switch whereas on PC I have put something like 50 hours into the game.
We need more Rally Racing games on any console. WRC is just racing against the clock time trial style. We need rally racing against other drivers! I miss the Top Gear Rally games on the N64! Even Top Gear Overdrive was great! Arcade racing games are dying. It’s a shame that the best rally racer we have on any system where you race against other cars is Wreckfest. Even though it’s more simulation and it’s derby and not rally. At least you race against other cars. Rise Race The Future is the best rally racer on switch. It’s right in between Sim & Arcade. Shame it has this anti gravity mechanic racing over water. It’s kind of cool but it makes it more of a futuristic racer and probably why many rally racing fans never try it. Rise Race The Future should be on this list!!! If anyone knows of a rally racing game on an PS5/PS4 or Switch where it’s not just time trial and it has actual races against other drivers.. I’d appreciate it!! Add Rise Race The Future to this list!! Great list for the most part! I’d love to see a video on F1 series or the latest F1 23 since you’re such a big fan! Thanks!
LOVE WRECKFEST! I have been playing it on my PC for 4+ years and it is me definite 'go to' for a quick game of racing mayhem! Also, thanks for the recommendation of Horizon Chase Turbo. For $20 plus $9 for the DLCs (Sumer Vibes and Senna Forever), it sounds like lots of racing options!
I did not even knew there was that many racing games on Switch probably as I don't really play racing games aside from Mario Kart or racing games from an actual arcade.
always check games online options in the Switch E-Shop. some of these on the list require NSO. and if youre like me and hate nso then the games are DOA. even Among Us is NSO locked, dont feed the greed people.
All online games are NSO unless they are free to play, this is how it works on any console. So yes every online game in this video needs NSO. Among us is not free to play, hence it needs NSO
Riptide GP: Renegade is a blast! Still can't beat the final boss, though. Hotshot Racing is fun, but I personally find the cars hard to control consistently. I want to love Fast RMX, but I don't. Probably because I stink at it.
Timestamps - FWIW I prefer timestamping with just the name of the game instead of something clever. I more podcast than active watch, and when I want to look back, it's a pain to look at a "clever" timestamp and have to guess what game is being reference. Nice list, though I don't really play many racing games. Burnout Paradise I played back in the day on the 360. What a letdown from the previous Burnout games, for exactly the reason you mentioned. Also - I feel like I found Kovox Pitch through you. I'm playing it now and... OMG is it addicting.
I think the F1 series is pretty much state of the art, especially visually, my hope is the next system. I'll be day one every year and it may be the game to get me streaming lol
I prefer Formula Retro racing to Hotshot racing. Horizon Turbo is pretty good as well. I'm looking forward to giving New Star GP a look at some point as that looks very interesting.
I'm looking in the e-shop and I don't find the main game for Wreckfest, just the two different bundle options. Do either or both provide the base game with that specific bundle option?
I mis a NASCAR game in this list. I prefer NASCAR HEAT Ultimate Edition+ over NACAR Rivals. I feel these NASCAR games add some unique mechanics with moving and slipstreaming through the pack that you don’t find in the other games.
Criminal that Asphalt 9 isn't on the list. I spent over 330 hours playing it. I get that it's hard for reviewers. It's meant to be played a little bit each day using all modes. Controls are perfect, online multiplayer is savage. Aside from a few tracks with pop in or framerate woes it has better graphics than most racers, if not most switch games full stop. It gets no love from professional reviewers. Stick with it daily, watch the game open up, new tracks, challenges, modes, cars and seasons with free DLC. it's awesome. Sure I'd prefer if I could just buy the game and earn the cars without the grind and shop stuff. But it's free and I spent about 6 quid on it for a few car unlocks.
