I am a life long Oilers fan. I sent you guys a message before. I have 4 season seats so you and the boys come visit and I’ll take you to a game. Watching McDavid on TV does not do him justice. Seeing him live is much more impressive.
I think he is the best I have ever seen. Watching him life I have never seen anyone who moves like him. As an Oilers fan I am so grateful he plays in Edmonton.
I'm 44 years old, been watching hockey my whole life, including watching Gretzky, and I definitely believe Connor McDavid is the best ever. He does everything perfectly, the perfect combination of speed, agility, stick handling, shooting, even his body is the perfect hockey body.
@@gregcable3250 Mario is the 3rd best ever, behind McDavid and Gretzky. There's been a lot of players who were tall with great reach, so that doesn't really mean anything.
In hockey, putting the puck through the goalie's legs is the 5 hole. So, anytime you hear someone scored through the 5 hole, it means the puck went between the legs.
8:19 For the annual NHL All-Star Skills Competition, McDavid won the "fastest skater" competition three times in a row (2017-2019). He's a real piece of work, I tell ya. If you give him even a inch of space, he'll take a mile.
For me the best thing about him is his skating. He’s the best skater in the sport anywhere. That combined with his elite hockey IQ and insane handles makes him literally unstoppable
Check out the other Connor too. Connor Bedard who just got drafted #1 to the Chicago Blackhawks. He had arguably the greatest Junior career ever in Canada's history which is saying a lot. If McDavid is like Cristiano Ronaldo, just bigger, faster, stronger, more skilled, and just better than you, Bedard is more like a Messi. He's not the perfect player you'd build in a laboratory, but despite his size he's very strong, hard to knock off the puck, always thinking 3 steps ahead of you, feeds his mates if you over commit on him and he has a laser of a shot. Real deal sniper.
Should watch Jack Hughes of the New Jersey devils. Wayne Gretzky himself said Jack Hughes is the only one who could catch up to mcdavids skill level. And he’s only 22
It's insane to me that the Oilers can't make the Finals with guy like McDavid on their team. He has Leon Draisaitl with him too, but other than that, there isn't much to work with on that team. Disappointing that Edmonton hasn't been able to give him a better supporting cast.
Another element is that officiating and disciplinary actions taken by the league tend to favor American markets where the game needs to grow and enlist fans(example being Nurse and Pietrangelo both receiving one game suspensions despite Pietrangelo blatantly attempting to injure a superstar.. In a place like Edmonton the game doesn't need that kind of support because there will always be a strong Canadian fan base.
I think after Vegas won it will push Edmonton even harder this year just need one of the goalies to step up I believe the coach made mistakes not putting Campbell in the do or die game Skinner was pulled game before cambel came in and played good I really think he made wrong move with a rookie goaltender loosing game before and not starting camb but it's over but if they play and have same kind of regular season should make deep run this year peace
40 goals in a season puts you amongst the best, 50 goals means you're generally a superstar, 60 goals is rarified air. McDavid finished with 64 goals and 153 points this year. It was the best statistical season in 27 years. He's the most talented player since Mario Lemieux.
I love how Mcdavid will handle the puck with 1 hand, and use his other hand to keep the defensemen's stick away from him... ive never really noticed players doing that before, but its genius.
McDavid is like the hockey equivalent of Theo Walcott’s speed, Sergio Agüero’s dribbling and Erling Haaland’s finishing. He could not be more skilled as a player. Every facet of offense in hockey he is incomparable.
Certainly the best offensive player now, but the players voted Sid Crosby the best all-around player for the 4th year in a row. Connor needs to round out his game to be 200 feet and maybe get to a single Stanley Cup final--he does afterall play beside a recent league MVP. I love his game in any case.
@patrickimhof6953 lmao draisaitl is worse defensively, worse offensively and is a pp merchant. Drai is still top 5 but he leans heavily on the powerplay.
@@patrickimhof6953 using playoff games is such a small sample size compared to the full picture. Crosby career ppg 1.11. McDavid playoff career ppg 1.53. McDavid highest scoring playoffs is 33 points in 16 games 2.06. Crosby highest career playoff points is 27 points in 24 games 1.12 ppg. McDavid has had higher peaks and overall more scoring in his short career so far. McDavid actual plays better than crosby. Crosby was simply on a better team.
You should check out Auston Matthews highlights. He is more of a sniper style player. This year he currently has 38 goals in 44 games, he could be the first player to score 70+ goals in a season since 1993.
Connor McDavid is like the rebirth of Wayne Gretzky for the modern era. In the modern era, scoring 60 goals or more is very rare, so it's a very big deal. No surprise the record for goals in a season is held by Wayne Gretzky (92 goals in 80 games, including 50 in just 39 games back in 1981/82) Gretzky already had over 1,000 points by the time he was McDavid's age.
The Messi Ronaldo of NHL ovechkin being Ronaldo prolific goal scorer Crosby being Messi, the master of all. This kid makes them look like armless children. Connor mcdavid is the best player I’ve seen in my 28 years of life. Barnone it’s not even fucking close. Hope that gives you guys perspective
Connor is Canadian, he is from Ontario. We are lucky to have the best player in the World play here in Edmonton, he is on another level. I've been watching Hockey for 34 years and he's my all time favourite player... Go Oilers Go!!!
McDavid is unbelievable. You should check out Bobby Orr. Seldom mentioned as the best ever, but he gets my vote. He certainly changed the game more than any player ever. You won't be disappointed.
I would say you'd have a hard time deciding between Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux and now McDavid..the opposition is the intangible. And then you can start to debate the Forsberg, Datzuyk tier .. you gotta love sports. But, my God McDavid's speed is outrageous
Gretzky is a fair comparison. He also played for the Oilers, among others, and he's the only player to have his number (99) retired for all 32 teams in the league. I don't know if McDavid is on that track, but he'll be the last to wear 97 in Edmonton, that's for sure!
His birthday is a day before me and a year after mine, so my birthday is January 14th 1996. His is the 13th of 1997. Being from Toronto as well which is pretty cool I think.
The guy is the fastest skater in the league, at 33kph the things he does with a puck are a sight to behold, great skaters never 'fight' the ice, they flow with it, if that makes any sense.
Him and Wayne are good friends he is Canadian still young players for same team as Wayne and Wayne has said Conner will beat all records when you whatch older goals his look like the other greats are moving in slow motion he got 150 points plus last season and another two of his teammates got a100 points he is just complete package fastest skater and stick handling at same time he won heart trophy 🏆 he was leading scorer in league and like Wayne Gretz said he is still young except them to make a good run in playoffs this year
When McDavid leans on his skates or glides after a few strides, he uses his edges on his skates better than anyone I’ve ever seen to gain speed and momentum while using his body and strength to force himself through the defensemen. Generational Talent, he individually made the game faster
Yep exactly you see him when his parents video taped him doing dry land training in garage that skate board thing they made was made just for that his edging and stick handling at same time when you whatch him that young on that board he was only 11 or 12 I think but it was crazy how he could stay on that and stick handling at same time guy still has a lot of years staying healthy and he will eventually break records I whatch Wayne Mario Bobby orr and every time it looks like there all slow motion compared to him imagine him back in those days with his talent he probably would get 200 points a season not saying anything bad about rest of the greats but the guy is so fast and talented player
Believe it or not, those come nowhere near the best highlights of his career. Keep watching videos and you’ll come across some absolutely unbelievable plays.
It's a short video, but I recommend reacting to the long advertisement that Sidney Crosby did for GoPro cameras. Crosby is another all-time great. His hand-eye coordination seems almost inhuman.
I am an avid fan of both the NHL and the world of Football/soccer, since you guys are English and watching sports highlights, I assume you have a relative grasp of the EPL, as do I. As a Canadian myself I grew up with the NHL and hockey, so if you want to learn about the history with reference to the world of Football as a whole, here's everything as a new comer you would need to know. The NHL has been around since the 1920's and 30's but became popular commercially across North America in the 50's and 60's with stars of the sport all around the league, such as Gordie Howe=(similar in all time status to pele and played hockey similarly to the way Zidane played football) Then in the seventies Bobby Orr became the best player to ever play, creating the offensive defensemen role (sort of like a CDM and a CAM conbined into the same role) scoring hundreds of points using his dominant ability to break defences down with his skating, he is similar in status to Maradona with a touch of Beckenbauer when comparing the two sports, except he isn't really an idiot like Maradona. However in the 1980's came a player about 6"0 and 170llbs by the name of Wayne Gretzky, who shocked the league with his unbelievable mental mapping and dominant skill for the game. Gretzky by the end of his career, had more assists than any player had combined goals and assists, while also having more goals than any other player. His highlights may seem unimpressive, but for his dominance of the game I have no Football comparison. He wearing the number 99 retiring in 1999, winning four Stanley cups during his career instantly became the best player in the history of the game by a landslide. He impacted the game so greatly that the Number 99 can no longer be worn by any player. from 1999 onward, many players made a vast impact on the NHL, even though hockey at that point had been played across the world for half a century in places such as Russia, Sweden and Finland very competitively and countries overseas had been producing all time talent for decades upon decades, players like Lidstrom(played 1991-2012)(comparable to Beckenbauer) and Ovechkin(played 2001-Present day)(comparable to CR7)and many others redefined European hockey in the Western hemisphere. Also North American Players since Gretzky such as Mario Lemieux(played 1984-2006)(similar to Zidane and R9) Sidney Crosby(played 2003-present day) (Similar to Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard)and many others have kept the sport's popularity growing. However, then came along Connor McDavid, who is our generation's generational talent. There is more talent in the NHL right now than there has ever been bar none, but McDavid(comparable to Messi and Neymar in terms of skill in their respective sports) may be the most talented Hockey player ever. Wearing number 97 and playing for Gretzky's old team, he is the fastest and best skater ever, while also having the fastest hands/puck handling ever(In my opinion). Since entering the league he as only gotten better, last season he scored 60 goals and 89 assists leading the league in both categories, with his skilled German teammate Leon Draisaitl(comparable in skill to KDB regarding their respective sports) scoring the second most points in the league as they both dominate almost every game they play in offensively. Every player mentioned in this comment have won a vast amount of individual achievements, such as MVPs and scoring titles, also every play mentioned here has Won the Stanley cup, except for two of them Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. If hockey fans have anything to add and If Football fans or people getting into hockey have anything to ask, just reply, I will answer! All I want to do is simply educate and inspire interest in sports for those who haven't discovered them yet!
The thing that sets McDavid apart is he is incredibly fast and he doesn't slow down when puck handling...most players, even excellent ones slow down just a bit when puck handling.
McJesus is a very fast skater and he hits that top speed in few strides. Very nimble and a smart player so that's why he's compared to the great one. Also when he goes low he's keeping their sticks away from the puck when he goes in. Work smart, not hard.
He's probably the best player in the game right now. Reminds me of watching crosby and ovechkin early in their careers.... And getting mad they are not on my team. But I disagree with a Gretzky comparison.
You would likely score just because you would throw off an NHL goalies timing. If you’ve never shot a puck before you won’t have the same mechanics he’s used to reading.
Most Canadian Team fans hate other Canadian Teams. In 9 yrs, Connor McDavid is in the top 5 players, with 305 goals in that span. Austin Mathews has 305 goals in an 8 yrs career. McDavid is flashy, but not best.
I played with mcdavid for 9 years, he was a year younger than me and lit the league up. Everyone knew he was going to the show. U shoulda seen the shit he was doing when he was 12
Connor McDavid has the best IQ anyone has seen in 30 years, Non other Than Wayne Gretzky said best IQ in 30 years he has seen. McDavid has been clocked at is top speed @ 40.9 - 45 Km an hour, who Can absolutely stick handled in a Phone both. I have 6 Season Tickets EVERY YEAR to see the Greatest Player in NHL today who plays where I live Edmonton Alberta Oil Country !!!!!
McDavid- (Neutral perspective, he almost never plays my team) Speed: A faster Mbappe (I watch all sports, I've never seen someone this fast in my life) Dribbling: Prime Messi Skills: Prime Ronaldinho Finishing: Prime UCL Ronaldo Passing: Prime Madrid Ozil He will always get hate for not winning a Stanley Cup but thats because arguably the worst run management team drafted him. Edmonton has the 2 best players in the world (Imagine prime Messi and Prime Ronaldo on the same team) but have the depth of Luton Town. For me he's already the best in history. *Also he was drafted and entered the league at 18 and he's got no prime because he's been like prime Messi since he entered the league. Imagine if Messi was always in his prime, thats McDavid aka "McJesus"*
Well, Kaprizov could give McDavid a run for his money. But, I do agree that McDavid is a beast. As much as I'm a huge Wild fan, I do hold respect for other teams. Wild will still beat Oilers though.
If they think those were good, they should see his past seasons. Idt this year was his best which shows how he is one of the best players of all time! It’s funny how I’m the only woman in the comments though lol
Connor Mcdavid is the most talented player of all time. Gretzky is the best. With how the game is played today, nobody will ever catch Gretzky’s scoring record. Mcdavid has the best chance of the players playing today, and he’s still way off pace lol.
It's obvious but it's worth reinforcing: Don't forget they're playing ON ICE. So most people can't even skate without falling on your ass let alone trying to play. No offense to either of you, but if you shot 1,000 goals you would make 0, unless you already know how to skate fairly well.
Hockey 🥅 is the shit it’s a great sport to follow especially when it’s playoff time and the Stanley Cup ..because you CANT TIE in the Stanley Cup…that shit is INTENSE to watch one ☝🏾 of the best sporting events I ever watched live was the 1996 Stanley Cup That was crazy 😝
Best player of all time, Im not crazy its fact. In this era of the NHL the talent would destroy the older Era's of the NHL if that make sense, goalies are way better and players have more talent, and the equipment and style of tending has change a lot and I know cause I still play net and have been since 1997 and starting playing hockey in 1990. Bedard will not be close to Mcdavid in anyways, its a whole new ball game for him and he is to small to stay healthy in the NHL
