I was completely ready for vs Cress or vs Trip to be faked out as the top spot haha. That's the thing about april fools on yt, almost everyone is using the haha funny joke, but the anipoke community is completely serious bc it's a big milestone.

I agree with your number one choice, especially the part about Infernape. It's my favorite Pokémon for two reasons: One, it's inspired by the Monkey King, Sun Wukong, who also inspired Goku. And two, it had one of, if not the greatest character ark of any of Ash's Pokémon, going from a mistreated Chimchar, to a hot-tempered Monferno, to a beast of an Infernape that proved itself as both the ace of Ash's Sinnoh team, as well as teaching Paul some much needed humility

I caught that episode at the tail end of a pokemon marathon on tv. It's always stuck in my mind as a wonderful character interaction battle. I was so happy for infernape. It felt like there was more to lose besides the league itself. Also, can i honestly say some contest battles are awesome as well.

One match I wish made the list was Ash vs. Katie in the Hoenn League. I believe it was the first round of full battles and Katie I feel was truly the first trainer in the anime to truly utilize rotating Pokemon to get the type advantage over her opponent. She was demolishing Ash during the first half, but then the second half came around and Corphish, Swellow & Grovyle put in WORK! Grovyle won against her final Pokemon Walrein, but I think Swellow was the MVP taking out Venomoth & Scizor while displaying some true speed and power!

I woulda tried to sneak this battle in cause I think this battle really epitomized what the Hoenn League was all about: showing just how much talent there was in the world. The Hoenn Leauge didn’t have a Paul or Alain to drive Ash to the top. But it didn’t need one cause instead it really aimed to show Ash and us that even after beating Gary, there’s so many tough opponents in the Pokemon World. We saw Katie for the first time here and yet out of the blue she’s utterly dominating Ash. Seeing a so called random league trainer do that really sends a message to Ash that he never can take it easy as opponents take you by surprise at the drop of a hat.

@@TimG57867 One of my ONLY gripes about the league was I believe this was the FIRST League where Ash DID NOT rotate his Pokemon so he only worked with his Hoenn team of 6. Even Oak said Ash would raise eyebrows by showcasing Kanto and Johto mons during the tournament (well MOST of the trainers did that outside of Ash). Sad because HALF of Ash's team at the time were not fully evolved, but he did well!

I can’t believe that this list didn’t have Ash’s battle with Harrison. That fight between Charizard and Blaziken was so awesome and it was also a great way to continue the silver conference arc after Ash had defeated Gary. It deserved to have a spot on the list like at number 25.

The problem is the battle isnt special. Ash doesn't use a new strategy, his Pokemon don't do anything new, the battle has almost 0 emotional stakes, plus it was just a league battle.

The lake acuity battle between ash and Paul was the VERY FIRST EPISODE I had ever watched of the Pokémon anime. Safe to say, I was hooked. What an incredible battle

I know Ash vs. Gladion was the match that FINALLY gave Ash a Pokemon League win, BUT I cannot get over Counter countering Counter 😂 Then the match not even being 6 vs. 6 for a league final battle geez...give me Ash vs. Kukui as the memorable Alola League fight anyday!

Alt least ash vs gladion gave us a legit league win, and it felt like a warm-up to the exhibition match with kukui .better than the lame orange league which isn't even a real league

@@thatman666 that's how I felt. I know Zac's review of the league (which I loved by the way) broke it down about how meaningful the league was to all of the trainers involved, BUT it just felt so 'easy' compared to all leagues prior. Ok, surviving to the Top 16 after a 151 battle royale isn't a small feat. However, a majority of the battles only being 1 vs 1 and then 2 vs 2 doesn't seem like much of a tournament for me. Yes, we blitzed to the semi finals of the Kalos League but it felt like Ash had more work to put in despite the loss in the finals. So, yeah...sadly it does feel like this league win didn't quite measure up to even some of Ash's league losses if I'm gonna be honest.

Feel like there was no stakes tho, Ash had always beat his rivals in the pokemon league. Top battle for sure tho because of infernape story. If they battled again i feel like its way less predictable to know who will win and will probably make for a better battle.

The only part of that battle I enjoyed was Infernape vs Electivire. If Paul had used his stronger Pokémon, like Torterra, Magmortar etc he would’ve destroyed Ash just like in their previous 6v6. Almost feels like lazy writing tbh

The hardest battle to place will always be Ash vs Prof. Kukui and Ash vs Paul. They just had the best moments in Pokemon, they are interchangeable

Type: Wild(One of my favorite Pokémon songs) playing during the end of the Ash vs. Kukui fight at the Alola Exhibition match, will always have a special place in my heart, cause it's the one battle that literally put me in tears. Ash vs Paul will always be #1. Not just for the battle, but Paul is Ash's best rival. Period!

Ash vs Shingo (Heracross vs Scizor) is an underrated fight. It was instincts vs analytics and how understanding everything about your Pokémon is key to winning. Shingo was one of the first trainers in the anime to go “Moneyball” with his Pokémon.

*Ash vs Kukui!* is just so much better than *Ash vs Gladion* Even though Ash won finally the league, the battle with Kukui is just so much more iconic to me! First of all it's a 6v6 match and also the longest battle. It has awesome animation and iconic music. Pikachu vs Tapu Koko was awesome just like the bond between Ash and Kukui.

Ash vs paul was the most ferocious exciting and strategic battle we ever had in the anime The dude managed to find a strategy to counter ground types with thunder Outsmarted ash on every single battle they had And he might be the only rival who has more than 2 powerhouses in his team Ursaring drapion torterra electivire hunchkrow magmortar ... ash even struggled to take down paul's aggron and gastrodon despite being only a bait

Pokemon Journeys is definitely going to end with an Ash vs. Leon fight and I'm really hoping that it ends up being a full battle that lasts 3 to 4 episodes.( If this is going to be the last series where Ash is going to be the Main Character, which is something that a lot of people are saying, I would fine if it lasted 5 to 6 episodes)

I prefer Ash vs Leon is the semis, and Ash vs Cynthia is the finals. Would also fit the trend where the intial rival/goal of the season is defeated, followed by Ash losing to the recently introduced bigger rival/goal. (Paul, Tobias), (the Sceptile kid, Alain), etc - the trend goes all the way back.

I really enjoyed Ash vs Masey in the Johto League, it showed the return of Squirtle and it also showed Ash's quick thinking as he saw Masey had an electabuzz to counter Water types so Ash brought in Phanpy It was great that you got Professor Silver to do one of the entries

I’m concerned about the fandom. Ash vs. Paul is the best battle in the entire series. With Paul returning to the anime soon, people really want another epic battle. They are fixated on this battle and want more of that same hype, but Journeys will not deliver the same hype. At most will get a 3v3, if there even is a battle at all. Lol

What a video, 50 minutes of Anipoke greatness! They are so many things I loved about this video: I really appreaciate the work and time that must have gone into it. I love how everyone went in-depht into each battle and how they effected the series they took place in and the characters around it (made me appreaciate the Ash vs Maylene, Ash vs May and Dawn vs May battles a lot more than I already did. I also really like how the list consisted of battles from all over the series and that it weren't only Ash's battles but also battle between other characters well (Like: May vs Drew, Dawn vs May, Paul vs Brandon) And can we please talk about the editing?! Level unknown since it doesn't exist in the anime! It was because of Zekrom who drained Pikachu of all his electricity and because Trip used attacks that Ash and Pikachu didn't know yet at that time! This had put Ash and Pikachu off guard. And you're probably going to tell me that the levels exist because of an episode of the first season, but I'm going to contradict you in advance by telling you that it was because these characters knew the Pokémon battles only through emulations and not through real battles.

Ash vs Misty - Kanto, Pikachu refused to fight ageins Misty Ash vs Misty - Alola, Pikachu being a F*** Bad*** I just think this really shows how mutch characted growth Pikachu himself has had throught the series, rather that not wanting to fight ageins his friend, he brought everything to the fight, honoring Misty as a competent trainer, the best way he could, be being serius ageinst her.

Infernapes battle vs Paul and electivire has to be one of the greatest arcs in Pokémon, going from being abandoned to dominating his whole team and beating a buffed electivire, honestly, absolutely crazy. And when electivire was taunting infernape and Paul was mocking him, I felt the rage that infernape felt and I was so unbelievably happy when blaze activated
