Top 25 Vintage LEGO Pirate Sets! - (According to TrikBrix) 

We anxiously await the return of the Lego RU-vid king! Your high effort Pirate, Western, and Adventurers videos inspired me to make something similar to showcase/preserve Rock Raiders. Hopefully you are doing well, Jamie!

I know its been 2 years and you've probably retired (or taking a hiatus to gather sets) but please continue the Adventures Retrospective! Its so cool seeing the long past of Lego without licenses.

Even if you don't come back, I hope you're still doing well! Your videos have been really inspirational for me.

Hope your still out there somewhere because LEGO has announced the Set 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay from LEGO Ideas. You might me very excited with this one as it has some features that you may remember in your childhood.

Here lies the greatest LEGO RU-vidr that ever there was. We were not worthy.

I wonder what trikbrix is gonna do to make a comeback I hope it’s adventurers season 3 or cowboys season 2

The sets always look so majestic when you have them all grouped together! Truly a case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.

I'm not gona lie Jamie, you made my eyes tear up watching this. The simple fact you own the Islanders sets makes me SO HAPPY you'll eventually do full in depth reviews on them, hopefully.

When I was a kid in the late 80s I was obsessed with Pirates and pirate mythology. I was also a huge Lego fan. The excitement I felt at seeing that first Lego Pirates catalogue in 89 is a feeling I've never experienced since!

God I miss those days, I was 6-9 years old when Pirates were a thing, loved those sets but couldn't ask my folks to get them all, where I live Lego was much more expensive back then.

These videos are great, takes me back to my child hood. The pirate and knights themes where my favourite growing up. Owed a few pirate sets, it was cool getting flash backs from 25 years ago when I seen sets I owner appearing in your video. A lot of them I haven’t seen before, seems like an interesting thing to collect.

I used to have the Carribean Clipper ship & Forbidden Island pirate set when i was a kid. Saw your channel and it was a trip down the memory lane. Thanks man!

The top 3 is hard to pick but I had a feeling those would be at the top. I had collected every pirate set between 1989-2000 but never built all of them. Mainly built the ships. Sadly - when I discovered the 12v trains - I decided to part with most of my collection so I could afford the trains. Nice seeing yours.

I got the Barracuda for Christmas in 89 after staring at the Lego catalogue for hours each day. It was the greatest gift I ever received. But a year or so later, when I saved up and bought Skull’s Eye Schooner…well, the Barracuda just didn’t seem as shiny anymore

Just subbed! I have the 89' Caribbean Clipper, Smugglers Shanty, and Shipwreck Island 89'. My dad bought them more for himself at that time, but no complaints in retrospect!!

31 years later, and I never realized the rowboat could go on the back of the Barracuda. I need to do that once I rebuild it again.

Skull's Eye Schooner was my white whale. It hurt how badly I wanted that as a kid, but my parents didn't make that kind of money. 25 years later and I finally got one. It was better than I ever hoped it would be.

I gotta say with the cross bone clipper hall pieces, there’s so much potential for an awesome MOC. Like I could see the black and green color combo used for a ghost ship, a LEGO system version of the black pearl or some type goth version of the skulls eye schooner. I’m amazed no one has tried any of those yet.

It all looks amazing displayed together at the end. I'm glad you moved your hands out of shot for a second :)

Fantastic list and fantastic reviews of the classic pirates sets! I have many of your top 25, but there are some glaring deficiencies such as the SES and Rock Island Refuge. So many more to still collect. I think my number one would have to be Imperial Trading Post, which I was fortunate enough to get for Christmas about 4 years ago....that said, I do have Black Seas Barracuda built and looking at me as I type!

Never had a pirate set, but I know I would of loved as a kid!

I had quite a lot of these as a kid, Lego Pirates was my absolute passion back then. The only newer Caribbean based set I like but sadly missed, because it released in my dark ages, is the Imperial Flagship! I was one of these weird kids that prefered the imperials (I called them soldiers back then!) and I modified my Barracuda to be a readcoat imperial ship with custom sails. The original imperial ships looked cool, especially the second one, but they were too small for the Admiral! The islanders were such a cool addition as well, a third and neutral faction opened up so many possibilities and the Enchanted Island defined the atmosphere of my little island world.

I'm so eternally happy that they rereleased both the Barracuda and the Eldorado fortress. And both are really beautiful remakes! Especially the Barracuda, it is absolutely stunning. My favourites from childhood are the Cannon Cove, the Raft Raiders and the Broadside's Brig (because these were the largest sets we could afford at that time). Fun fact, I just built a really good looking little fortress from almost exclusively from the Cove's and the Brig's pieces, you just need to open them up into 90-90 degree angles (and it looks amazing and modern on the sand island leftovers of the new Barracuda) I'm still itching for a Renegade Runner, that was the most affordable ship, I drooled over the catalogues. Hopefully a remake or something would come again and I can scratch this childhood itch :)

Great review of your Top 25 pirates sets! I'd have chosen those Top 3, as well. Although I'd have placed Barracuda 1st, Trading Post 2nd, and Scooner 3rd. I personally like the colors of the Barracuda and the Trading Post much better than those of the Scooner. Granted, the Scooner has more functionality and is overall a bit larger, but the colors don't "pop" as much to me and I am not a fan of the huge big skull on the sail. Whenever I see the Barracuda, it screams joy, adventure and LEGO nostalgia to me. The red, yellow, black and brown just make for an eye-popping impression. Same goes for the Trading post with its red roofs, yellow and white brick and mortar buildings. It's just more colorful and LEGO-esque to me, if that makes any sense. The Scooner is a bit pale by comparisson... I mean, it's basically the color palette of a sleleton, so in that sense very well done, but also bland. Plus, the green porthole covers and blue lanters just stick out like sore thumb to me. I try to capture some of the old LEGO designs in my MOCs. If you're interested, pay my channel a visit! In any case, keep up the great work!

Really cool video :) For me the Red Beard Runner has a special place in my heart, because it was the pirate ship of my time and the one I looked at in the catalogs.

Great list! I can understand why some were honorable mentions. I started my vintage collection with 6260 Shipwreck Island,something about just made it so appealing for display,(plus it has one of the best base plates ever) and the 6261 Renegade Raft as it was a good price on Ebay $13 with the instructions and free shipping!

I’m glad they made the baracuda bay set with the original red sails but I too feel that the skull’s eye schooner is the superior vessel 👍

#19 was my first set ever, got it when I was four. Still super fond of it and will buy it when I have my own place to display it

Even though I was sad to see, that the Eldorado fortress didn't make it to top 5 :) I make castle vintage reviews and I have a hard time figuring out what to do with the coppa law. How will you mark your videos? Apart from that, keep up the good work :)

Skull's Eye Schooner was the ship set I really wanted. I knew a kid who had it and, all too typically, he didn't seem to care for Lego much at all.

Yes, the Schooner is the best. It's the Pirate ship I always wanted and never got. I'll get it on BL next year. Hopefully, I'll find it not too expensive.

As a kid, Imperial flagship was one of my two most beloved sets ever, the other being 6981 Aerial Intruder.

Enchanted island was my first lego ever. Got it for Christmas when I was 4. Still love it

I never thought about the islanders as being part of the pirate theme. I always looked at them as separate.

A great list and I can imagine it would have been VERY hard to prioritize this! There was actually a few I don't remember seeing before (no. 22, 18, 15, 14 maybe one or two more). I think the ships and the forts are some of the best LEGO sets still! The 6286 is a beautiful set for sure - great choice! :-) Thanks for sharing this great video and keep up the good work :-)

You have, without question, the best reviews of old Pirates, Islanders, Western, and Adventurers sets, so the fact that you only has 3.55k subs is absolutely criminal. I really hope you continue because I'd love to see you review the Indians Western sets and final 2 Adventurers sub-themes as well as the new Pirates of Barracuda Bay set.

Man i just found your channel and watched all your pirate reviews, soon starting on your other vids. You still planning on making more video's?

I built the Red Beard Runner today with a friend and it actually surprised me how much I like it. From the pics, the sails and focus on play features always put me off. And although I still find it a slightly ridiculous ship -- the bright colors, the skull at the back, no captain's quarters or anything like it... -- it has some very redeeming features. The play features are actually quite fun, the sails are menacing and the fact that you can place as many as four cannons on one single side -- on two levels too -- is pretty unique. I think the trick is to simply accept this ship as the out-of-bounds fantasy it is, something the LEGO designers just had some fun with, and stop comparing it to handsomer display ships like the BSB or the SES. Then, it can actually become something to love.

Hey Jaime, I hope you are all right. I keep finding myself being back at your channel almost every week. Your videos are simply the above par standard. Also, have you seen the news about the Barracuda Bay ideas set? That is the best thing I've seen since the Adventurers in my opinion. I hope we'll see you back anytime soon. :)

5:30 I am going through my old 90's Lego Pirate bits, unfortunately lots of the stuff is mixed up with all the other lego's, I did find the alligator though plus maybe 8 or so Pirate figurines and a monkey missing a leg, so a three legged monkey.

Classic Lego collecting is an expensive hobby so its understandable new videos are on a hold. I am however looking forward to your take/review on a new theme soon!

i grew up with pirates theme and castle. I didnt have many sets, but of one that i did and still do have are 6264 and 6261

I think I have a new favorite channel.

I heavily modified my original black seas barracuda. And with eight cannons I believed it to far superior to the skull, eye schooner. When Pirates of barracuda bay came out, I took that flaxseeds, barracuda and heavily modified it as well now features 12 cannons on the sides. As well as to forward facing cannons on the fore peak. while retaining all the play features in the lower deck, such as the bunks, the kitchen and the bar.

I only own 6260 and a few other tiny pirate sets. I have the shipwreck pirate island (6270) second hand but am still busy getting all the parts to restore it.

I was lucky enough to have gotten number 8 and number 3 when I was a kid along with some of the smaller sets. I have all the pieces for the Trading post but the main sail on the ship is missing.

Your missing the skull island pirate port. It was hands down the best pirate land based set. I loved this video as it brought great memories back
