1. Using a modern vatican manuscript Bible (stick with the old King James) 2. Listening to anyone popular on TV as a preacher (TV is filth why would they allow anyone not the same on TV?) 3. Churches that are 501C3 IRS approved tax exempt businesses chartered by the state. They are a business with the name church in it. Home churches are the way to go.

Bible project is wonderful though I happen to see (just) two serious mistakes. (1) It omits that Jesus was actually punished for our sin in that he drank the cup of God’s wrath for us. (2) Tim Mackie also very surprisingly, actually said, very clearly that hell was “created by men” even though Scripture literally taught that it was prepared (initially) for fallen angels. Who else can prepare anything for the fallen angels other than God? Other than those two, I found the BP very helpful & enjoyable for a coherent view of the Big Story. Love it!

My former pastor said it is okay to ask "What does this mean?" when reading the Bible, but it is best to ask "What should I being doing with this?" or "How should I be letting this change me?" I suppose that is a slightly different way of expressing the professor's first point. Good video, I always see great things coming from Southern Seminary.

I was eating in public once with two people that got in a VEHEMENT discussion about predestination and it got SUPER heated and one threatened to get up and walk out. I just sat there and didn't say anything but was honestly madder than both of them because of how ridiculous it all was. So when we left one of them called me and said "Can you believe him?!" and even though I agreed with the one calling me I said "you're both fools" and they said "WHAT?!" and I said "Go read what Paul told Titus. He said avoid foolish questions and geneaologies and strivings and contentions about the law which are unprofitable and vain". I said that they both made fools of themselves and the Scripture doesn't say he who winneth arguments is wise but he who winneth SOULS. I'm a baptist preacher and very passionate bible lover but as I've aged I've tried to make a concerted effort to never "argue" with people because it's never to any profit as Paul said. God bless you for your honesty and I hope this story from my own experience can help you and I both to keep our eyes on the true prize. If you know you're saying what's right and people reject that then just shake the dust off against them and keep going but never do it for your own glory and God will bless you.

The main reason I started reading the bible at age fifteen was I wanted to follow Jesus but mainly it was to see myself in these scriptures and be able to change and adapt in order to be a better person and to try to understand things. I don’t understand why people pick it up and read it like it’s some kind of Dan Brown novel.

These are definitely important. I thank you sir for your imparting of wisdom. I have found in my experience that these are true of us more often than they should be. I would add one more, I believe important, rule to scriptural study. That is the two witness rule. Whenever considering the practical application of lesson learned in the scriptures please remember that we should never act without a second witness. Also those lessons we have already applied should always be tested for two scriptural witnesses.

I read a chapter of the Bible every day and read it as God's message/ guidance to me for the day. It has been quite effective in directing me to apply what I learned for the day and most of the time I even get the exact advice I needed for a particular circumstance which is awesome and further proves to me that God's Word is alive and exerts power and He really talks to us through it. However, these days, I do find it quite heavy and even berating at times when I read back-to-back scriptures where God condemns the Israelites (just finished the book of Isaiah today) as I tend to apply His words to them to myself. Is this a healthy way of reading the Bible?
@cputeq007
@cputeq007 Год назад
I just now read this -- I think it keeps us honest. We're not to go on living using our freedom in Christ as excuse to sin - we're supposed to recognize God hates sin (read in Numbers where a guy is stoned for picking up sticks on the Sabbath!) and therefore we should learn to hate it in ourselves. And in one sense, like the man in the synagogue that beat upon his chest and cried to God "have mercy on me, a sinner", we are supposed to bemoan our sin like the Puritans (and any good Christian) would do and like Paul lamented over. But at the same time, this recognition of how deadly and horrible sin really is should ALSO cause us to exalt God in His goodness for saving us, *even yet* while we were sinners! So while we grow to hate sin more, we grow to also praise and thank God more that He has saved us by His grace. I love how John MacArthur put it once (paraphrasing) - "People think Christians should grow more joyous as they age. In some sense that's true, but you also come to a clearer understanding of sin. The older I get, the worse I feel." God bless!

Doctrine and covenants ( 1978 edition, not the Mormons) section 22, verse 23 b, “ and there is no end to my works, neither to my words; for this is my work and my glory, to bring to pass the immortality, and eternal life of man. This is what the Lord spoke to Moses, at a time when Moses was caught up into an exceedingly high mountain, and He saw God face to face, and he talked with him, and the Glory of God was upon Moses; therefore Moses could endure his presence. This is not in any Bible I’ve read, but it is in the scriptures, which to me and millions of others, the scriptures contain three books, the Bible, the Book of Mormon ( not the Utah Mormons, or present day Mormon church) and the Doctrine and Covenants, ( a book of modern day revelations, since the restoration of His church and the restoration of His word in 1830.

As Christians the biggest problem i see is the guilt the devil uses to bring us down. We read and attend church and we become religious. God uses each of us different. Has us in places we feel we shouldn't be. But once ur relationship is strong with the Lord and you are walking with him and he knows your heart is right. You will see urself around the fallen and in places you think you shouldn't be at first. Look to him and he will show you his plans.

Taking an even closer look at how God interacted with Joseph and the reaction by his brothers we see that it was God's intention for his brothers to grow in resentment toward him. Not just his father giving him the special coat, but the revelation that God gave Joseph in his dream regarding how his brothers would bow down to him on top of it all. Clearly we can see God's intention and it played out in how their actions against Joseph played into the sequence of events that went into causing Joseph's life to take the course that it did. Cleary Joseph saw this in the end and spoke about this to his brothers in the last chapter of Genesis. Joseph spoke of two aspects. One was the evil intensions in his brothers hearts, and also the will of God in everything that happened in order to bring about the events according to God's will. We also see this in other places in the bible where God brought the Assyrians against the nation of Israel in order to punish them, but then turning around and punishing the Assyrians for the intentions in their hearts against Israel. We also see this discussed in Romans 9 regarding Jacob and Esau, Pharaoh, and the potter having power over the clay.

God knows your heart and your mind even better than you do. Be as patient and honest with Him as you can and continue to ask for guidance and revelation. Consider fasting too, with the purpose of your search in mind. From my own experience, I was attracted to Christ based on the symbolic or abstract truth of the gospels a number of years ago following an exploration of such truths in other spiritual narratives. It seemed clear that the story of Jesus went far further than others in describing the nature of God Who IS Love and Truth. As a solution to our sinfulness and an explanation for our innate longings it's simply perfect. I believed this without knowing whether the story was literal or not, because I wasn't there and the resurrection seemed so fantastical. Eventually a series of very clear communications and miraculous signs in my own life and in the lives of others mounted up to demonstrate that not only was God drawing me back like a prodigal son and making it clear that the Old and New Testaments were His Word, but that if He could do what He did in my life then nothing was impossible for Him. On reflection that for Jesus to be a mere allegory would be too empty for The Living God, I could not help committing to believe and as usual I found that in the deepest heart of my soul I had already known. You will have to experience for yourself though, and God of all beings understands. Do check out inspired works of people who write and video apologetics if you need, including The Bible Project recommended in this video, but read the Bible and pray for discernment and understanding and guidance and revelation. God bless.

Faith comes from hearing and reading the word of God. The whole Old Testament points to a coming Messiah- towards one who could fulfill the prophecy and become our Savior- The New Testament is a record of Jesus and His fulfillment of that, and of the establishment of Christ’s church- the body of which Christ is head- God’s word is truth and truth will withstand a close audit. If you honestly search the scriptures it will lead you to the knowledge of Christ and will help you develop faith in Christ. Curiosity can lead you to knowledge- knowledge can lead you to faith- faith should lead you to obedience- obedience will allow you entry into the kingdom of heaven (the church)- ultimately your passing will make permanent your relationship with God-

Helena it's a good start as you have a genuine interest in searching the truth. Quran is the only record that denies Jesus being crucified inspite of lots of historical documents supporting the crucifixion of Jesus. Cry out to know Him and He will reveal Himself. Do see Dr. Nabeel Quereshis testimony on Searching Allah finding Jesus. May Almighty God reveal Himself to you and by His Grace we will see each other in Heaven one day.

Look into the historical facts of Jesus of Nazareth, specifically His death and resurrection. The resurrection is the key. Then you will see how other texts speak falsehoods about what happened to Jesus. I suggest Dr. William Lane Craig's work on the resurrection.

The Bible project is great except some of the ways they present things I think are debatable such as talking about Jesus' victory on the cross as over evil as opposed to as punishment for sin or suggesting that God's command in the Old Testament to destroy the Cannanites was just hyperbolic language as opposed to being somethingvto take literally.

When people talk 2 me about their problems or other people. I tell them put the shoe on the other foot and how would u act if someone does u like that. Then i find a quote from the Bible and let them think 4 their self and answer

#1. Even if you change your life, how do you know that what you're doing is right, or is God's will? You could always be misinterpreting the Bible, or misinterpreting God's will. The Bible is often vague enough to leave this possibility wide open. The Bible itself confirms that Satan can appear as angel of light. So HOW DO YOU KNOW that you're right?

You see it in the fruits of the Spirit or fruits of the flesh. This is often talked about, esp. in the New Testament. A Spirit-filled life yielded to God *will* produce fruits of the Spirit - and a life yielded to the flesh yields the fruit of sin. So, while yes, there are some more difficult passages that Christians often lovingly (hopefully) debate over, there are *plenty* of Biblical passages that are very clear on how to please God. That being said - maybe your question is : How do we know the Bible is true and not a ruse of Satan? We might look at all other religions, which all teach some form of works-righteousness system and compare it with Christianity, which teaches salvation by grace through faith, and that not of our own. So either Satan invented a singular religious book and system that teaches us to praise God, bear with evildoers, repent, and know that we bring nothing for our salvation...or he didn't, and it's God talking to us ;) Also -- every Christian I think should have a personal testimony -- I used to be very sinful, not following God - lustful, hateful, prideful, arrogant, and disobedient. I'm still that way unfortunately, but way, way less, and I'm learning to love God and follow him - more patient, way less lustful, less prideful, less disobedient -- I still have a long way to go, but one must admit -- those are good qualities to improve upon, yes?

I am a follower of Christ I am seeking more knowledge of God all of the time I can also distinguish between someone speaking the truth and somebody seeking to make tons of money and not live in the way God wants us to live.

While #BibleProject produces some aesthetic videos, they lack a sound understanding of sin and hell. They interpret the Bible through the contemporary lens of social justice. So, although they are illustrative they are not properly doctrinal. Gabe Hughes of #WWUTT channel has an excellent response video to them.

I have noticed they do conveniently skip over some of the more difficult bits but they are a useful tool as long as you have read the book yourself all the way through as a unified story and not bits and pieces.

Is it possible to show favor to one child over another, and still love all the other children? Now watch me put this question to a distinct context. Is is possible for God to love all His children and favor them with inequality by giving some more blessings than others? How about this. Is it possible to be a wise and good owner, to pay one worker more wages than another based on their gender if they all were in good health and pledged to work for that owner for 6 years?

The most common mistake is thinking the Bible can be interpreted by human reasoning. Many people hear and believe but few take action.

The church is the people who follow Christ. We are the body of the church it does not need to be a building or any structure. Once when Jesus was asked how to pray he said go into your room and shut the door and pray. I pray and talk to God all the time I would like to go to church to be part of a Community of Christ but it's okay if I can't.

Thanks for this great video! I especially liked the first point. Just to clarify about the website you recommended: "The Bible Project"--they don't believe in a literal Hell, so beware!

Rip someone else? Jesus picked out twelve disciples who in many ways were different and sometimes opposites. They followed Jesus with the Great Commission and didn’t do the great correction among themselves.
