That was a surprise number three! You are doing the right thing by changing. No point being uncomfortable when you use your motor home a lot. Looking forward to seeing what you have chosen.
Thanks Debbie. It really was a easy decision. Being comfortable makes us happy, so we are just going to do it. Not too many days to wait for the swap now 😀😀😀. Pete & Kaz 👍👍
Thanks Em. Herb did check a lot of the check boxes, but was much better online (& in our imaginations) than in reality. We could have done with watching someone larger living in such a van that we were after…. The bit of a hit we take in the £££ department should be compensated by comfort and happiness (& lack of earache 👂). Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, Pete & Kaz 😀😀😀👍👍👍
The next thing is definitely going to be more comfortable. Good job I’ve had the practice of putting more solar, batteries, etc. a nice Easter weekend reverting Herb to original spec (I like to think a bit better than). Pete
We didn't like the dinette layout we had in our Bolero and Jenny hated the high up twin beds in the Malibu we borrowed. Fortunately we like our current layout, apart from lack of garage and travel seats....
Some vans are good for folks of changing dimensions. Dinette was sized for kids, and the twin beds could have been designed by our top hat wearing minister for the 18th century…. (Tall and skinny, and possibly an extra joint in the legs, not to mention night vision). We have successfully scoured our local dealerships (many in this bit of the world) and will now attempt the compromise from a different angle. Thanks for watching, Pete & Kaz 👍👍👍😀😀😀
Getting stuck is our worst nightmare 😂 good job though getting out with a little help. Sorry to hear your changing herb, layout is so crucial to enjoying camping life so completely understand and at least you get all the fun of looking and choosing again 😊
Thanks very much. I think some better tyres 🛞 might have just saved the day. Still 3500kg is still quite a bit of weight pushing on a small contact area. There are many things that we still love about Herb, the garage for example, but all that eats into living space. We ultimately have to be comfortable to enjoy, as you do rightly say. A good old trot around a few dealers is always good. Pete & Kaz 😀😀😀👍👍👍
Number 3 surprised me but it’s better to get something that suits. We have just put a deposit down on a Wildax Pulsar so keeping my fingers crossed it works for us. Take care Gill
Hello Gill. It’s been building up for a while, but was quite easy once we’d made a decision. Oooh, good job on the Wildax!! We’ll hold thumbs for you. Pete & Kaz 👍👍👍😀😀😀
It’s so difficult getting the layout right. We started with a Ford Transit Custom pop top because I wasn’t really confident driving a bigger vehicle but we knew within the first couple of nights that it wasn’t going to work. We then moved to a 5.4m Peugeot Boxer because that’s the biggest we could get on the drive and we loved it but I found it was easier to drive than I expected and we thought something bigger would be perfect if we made the drive bigger! So 7 months later the dive had been extended and we’d sold that van too. We now have our dream van, or at least we hope we do, a 6.36m Fiat Ducato campervan which we love so we’re hoping it’s 3rd time lucky because that’s three vans and an extended drive in 18 months 🤣. I think if you know your van isn’t right for you you’re doing the right thing to change it. After all we go away for pleasure so there’s no point in being uncomfortable. I’m really looking forward to seeing what you decide in the future. Thanks for sharing.
Hello Sylvia. Comfort is king here. Good job on the drive upgrade and the van upgrades. Agreed that a van that’s a few centimetres (or a meter or so longer) is fairly straightforward to get used to driving. We believe that we came quite close to what we wanted with Herb, but the experience has taught us what’s really important and what we only thought was important. It’s got to be an in-person visit for us in the future, no online only experience (Amazon doesn’t sell leisure vehicles). Ideal world would be two or three nights in a similar vehicle, before buying. We do believe that whatever comes next is much more comfortable. Thanks for watching and commenting, Pete & Kaz 👍👍👍😀😀😀
@@CraftyCampervanners just thought! Have you seen the Vandromeda channel? David’s a big lad 6’2” and after a dodgy start with a Bolero he got a fantastic AutoSleeper Burford, I think, which they love. Maybe check that out for a few ideas. 😊
@@sylviapage8572 No, not seen the channel until you mention it. RU-vid could do a better job of recommending content…. We’ll be sure to check them out, but we may have already made a purchase;).
Hi both we are also a little larger living so totally understand your thoughts👍🏻 It's a shame that herb hasn't quite hit your needs but, you have to be happy & comfortable in your leisure vehicle as it's a huge investment! Otherwise what 's the point in investing in it.🧐You might have taken a hit financially this time but put it down to a learning curve and it's better to get what's right for you than be unhappy with your investment!😯Do you think you would consider going back to a caravan at some point?🧐👍🏻Really looking forward to your journey and vlogs on your next leisure vehicle whatever this may be! Thanks Emyr & Karen.👍🏻
Thanks Emyr & Karen. We came really close with Herb. Couldn’t have done better with all of the external storage, but inevitably all of those lockers eat away at the interior space. Even though what comes next is a bit more expensive (& we have been very lucky with a string of good trade-ins), it is definitely much better to be happy than to just put up with too many compromises. We would absolutely consider another caravan, winning the Euromillions would mean we’d need a much bigger driveway, ‘one of each please’ ;). Thanks for your support, we hope to share the new thing quite soon. Pete & Kaz 👍👍👍😀😀😀
Hi have you looked on the motorhome showroom at warminster they are lovely people there we have had 3 motorhomes from there if you are not happy with your layout 😊
Thanks very much for the comment:). We haven’t looked at Warminster, will have a look in the future, nothing wrong with some window shopping. We’ve already setup for a swapover of vehicles really soon - we can’t wait, and we will soon share what we have done. Pete & Kaz 😀😀😀👍👍👍
Hi Caroline. Does anyone get it right first time out? You did well to get almost perfect the second time around!! We are looking forward to being comfortable again - relaxation on the way. Pete & Kaz 👍👍👍😀😀😀
Research, Research, Research…. You’re get through the vans a bit…. Poor Herb! Pete’s done so much work! Luckily most of it was removable shame you’ve lost a bit of money on this one.
Thanks for taking the time!! Yip, research is a good thing, and I’d qualify that and say ‘in person research’. If at first it’s not right, we’ll change it. Plenty of opportunity to work remotely these days means that we’ll get out more often. Good remote office capabilities is also a deciding factor. At least the putting in the electrical stuff and then reverting (& leaving things better than the original job) is good practice for next time. Sure, the early swap has cost a bit, but no point being uncomfortable and miserable. Pete & Kaz 😀😀😀👍👍👍
