That’s exactly what I did; stealth irons P through 6, Stealth HD 5 iron. Taylormade recommended customizing it to 2 degrees stronger to gap better, as the lofts in the,two sets are different. The result was fantastic and the 5 iron is one of my favorite clubs. Maybe I should have just purchased the HD set!
Hi Anthony I believe you can get a combo set of those. Or if it’s just the longer irons they do now have the 101U range that could be an alternative for you at the top end of the bag. Hope that helps
Good review Chris. Clubs get labelled for various handicaps but apart from Clubs having less of a draw bias, I’d like to know at what point and why a person should consider moving from (say) game improvement irons to different set. What are the benefits? Cheers
Over the years I’ve had 3 different sets of Ping G series irons, they are great if the ground isn’t firm otherwise they are difficult to get a clean strike with them as they bounce off the turf with the fat sole. I also found them difficult to chip with and their bulky size made them hard work out of thick rough. I changed to a couple of sets of Ping I series irons and they answered all the above points but obviously suffered regarding forgiveness. Currently playing Callaway Apex CF19 which seem the perfect compromise, ie forgiving but not too large overall or the sole. Won’t be changing anytime soon.
Why are those just for high handicappers? I am a 3 handicap in my early 50’s and I play the G430’s with 4, 5, 6, 7 hybrids. I just try to hit the same shot shape every time!
Got fitted earlier this year and got the Ping G430. Absolutely love them. The only problem I have is you have to stick an extra wedge in as the PW is 41 degrees!
