Some people really underestimate how uncomfortable a ring can be. Especially a engagement ring which will probably be used all the time/very often I think it's important to think about how it feels on your hand!
So this is slightly off topic, but as someone who both crochets and knits, I just want to make you aware of the fact that crochet and knit are wholly different types of fabric. The fabric you've probably seen advertised as crochet in any store setting is either straight up fraud or slave labor made, because crochet can only be handmade through hours of work that nobody would ever even pay a couple dollars an hour for after material cost. The thing is, it's trendy right now, so lots of companies will pass off machine knit as fauxchet, because the average person doesn't know the difference between the two. He doesn't knit or crochet, but has a surprisingly decent breakdown of the difference between the two ways of making fabric.
@s.colins2050 you're judging that she doesn't know the difference or that she didn't mean handmade vs store things? You assumed that with zero contest.... all that was said it snags on everything which can be all materials because of the points? I'm very confused by your effort to educate someone on something that was never even said incorrectly lol
@@brianamarshall6110 I understand that it seems like she said it correctly to you, but I brought it up cause she actually didn't. She referred to a crochet sweater as knitwear. It's an easy mistake to make if you don't know the difference between what the two are, but it's incorrect to say that anything crochet is knitwear and vice versa. The correction was made because the vast majority of people make that assumption because of false advertising in fast fashion that companies get away with because lay people have no idea the difference in level of effort the two types of materials require to make. One is a sweatshop level of work because they have the fabric premade like everyone else, the other is functional slavery. I was trying educate about the latter, because the assumption was made that it's similar to knit fashion, which is bad like every other form of it, but not understanding that crochet fast fashion is orders of magnitude worse.

Pave is horrible for comfort and wearablity. I have a green asscher cut emerald halo. I'm already looking at popping that gem out and putting it in a bezel set rounded comfort fit moi et toi open shank with a diamond baguette on opposite side for my right hand ring. It is a pretty ring, but 0 for comfort and everyday.
I will agree on the marquise cut ring. It is my favorite cut, however. If the setting is done properly it's not bad. I've had one for 38 years and I'd never trade it. It's my favorite. Mine is set in a tension setting so no prongs.
Marquise, heart, and pear are fine if the prongs are made to protect the points. Also, east/west set marquise cuts look modern AND can be set into a bezel style that prevents all poking of the points.
I have a half-pave engagement ring with a low-profile setting. It is so gorgeous and so comfortable. It did take some getting used to, but I highly recommend it!
My daughter had a gorgeous 2.40 ct cushion cut diamond in a custom platinum setting. The setting was $20k. That ring was in the jewelers more than it was on her hand. Too many small stones, she was constantly losing one or two. Remember small diamonds require small prongs…..small prongs are more fragile than larger, sturdier prongs. I’m not a fan of pave settings either……from experience.
I agree with all of these points! My round solitaire is exactly set to my stone. It's solid. And ½the time i just wear my 2 mm comfort fit band. Or my 6mm or my 8mm🤷🏼♀️i have 3 size comfort fit bands because a lot of the time i just wear different widths with different looks .
That marquis was set poorly! Marquis diamonds are prone to chipping! The corners should have prongs for gem protection. IMHO, pave settings are fugly. Id never opt for that shank design. Ill bet those prongs snag everything! Ugh. I love my tiffany style comfort engagement ring and comfort wedding band. The solitaire stone speaks for itself and is a simple, classic style.
Pave looks beautiful, but is very uncomfortable for me because the stones on the side dig into my fingers. For me, the stones can only be on the front of the setting.
Everything you say makes sense. If you wear the engagement ring every day, it needs to be comfortable and have a shape that prevents its constant damage.
If you don’t like a smooth band, get a HALF eternity marquise cut ring. Mine is stunning and I haven’t seen it anywhere else, was affordable and COMFORTABLE. My right pinky finger however…. Has a callous. Not from all the art/ admin I do. But from holding hands with my hubby and his chunky hunky ring. 😅
Are eternity rings considered to be in pavé setting? I'm not so knowledgeable about jewelry design. I bought one, emerald stones in heart shape cut. It was pretty but the most uncomfortable ring I have, so far, because the prongs were scratchy and if I grip my hand a little tight, the ring would cause me pain.
Eternity bands can be pave size or larger but the bigger the stones the more you’ll feel them! Definitely not the most comfortable but they’re beautiful!
You can find eternity bands pave set or prong set. Mine is prong set and each stone has 4 prongs (preferable) they don’t share prongs as in some bands. As stated, the larger the stones the more uncomfortable it will be. At a meeting a man shook my hand so hard, he crushed my fingers and my eternity band hurt like heck. Left marks on my fingers and my diamonds are only around 15 points each, not big stones.
@@eggnogalcoholic in a basket setting with 3 smaller round diamonds on each side kind of like the same feeling as the traditional one with side baguettes (but with round stones) in platinum.
I have ridiculous skeleton fingers, I need a 5 to get it over my knuckle, but my finger is like a 4-4.5 or something.. I have his initials tattooed, set that "in stone", and saved some money 😂 He has mine on his because he works construction.. 21 years ✌️
