This video is about the top 3 reasons why i personally decided to purchase a new Roccbox pizza oven instead of buying a Ooni pizza oven. They both make great Portable PIzza Ovens but these 3 main reasons helped me make my decision much easier to decide and set me on my way to making great pizza at home! In the perfect world I would have a Roccbox and an OONI Pro pizza oven at home!

I have both the Ooni Koda and the Roccbox and the Roccbox beats the koda in terms of build quality and cook quality. My first koda wouldn't even light up, contacted Ooni and they sent a replacement which took over a month, the replacement worked okay for a couple of weeks before the plastic dial completely melted on me. I then decided to get the roccbox, one hell of an oven! will last a lifetime!

I purchased the Roccbox a few months ago and absolutely love it. It was a toss up between Roccbox and Ooni. It took me months to make my decision. I'm glad I chose the Roccbox. I heat mine for approximately 45 minutes. It comes to temperature sooner, but I like to make sure the stone is really hot. Once I start cooking the pizzas I turn the flame down a bit. It really holds heat well. Thanks for a great review.

How long would you say on average you have to wait between pizza's with your ooni? Size is a concern of mine too, that's the major appeal to me with the ooni, but I'm concerned that the wait time between pizzas could be concerning business wise.

I couldn't decide between this model and the Ooni Koda 16. But the Ooni was back-ordered til December (Sept. 2020, Covid times) and this was available this week. I watched Kenji Lopez-Alt's comparison and he loves both so I didn't really hesitate. This does limit me to a 12-inch pie, but too bad, I'll make two.

Thanks for the great video! I was on the fence for a while and this helped me finally bite the bullet and buy one! I'm looking to start a pop up business as a side hobby/hustle. I was worried about Ooni because of the insulation issue. Less overall mass means it wouldn't retain heat as well and would limit the rate you can actually punch out pizza's. Your emphasis on the added insulation and the benefit of a larger heat sink did it. Only downside is I'll be limited to 10'' personal sized pizzas. Wish they made these in 16in. Wish me luck! Thanks again!

After 3 weeks of trying to get my new koda 16 oven to work, with the average response time from ooni customer support beiing 2-3 days per email, they agreed that my oven was defective and once I mailed it back, they were able to get me a new one sent overnight (NJ to NY). The new one worked immediately without all the fixes I had to do on the first one. The only thing missing from the new box was the matchstick holder, which they mailed to me. Since there were quite a few people on the ooni community board complaining of the same issues it seems that there may be a quality control issue somewhere. But for now I am happy the new oven works! The center of my stone still ranges 800-850 dees F after 30 minutes. Only the left side in the back corner reaches 900 degrees F, the corner where the 2 burners meet.

My friend let me borrow is ooni koda 16 and it was good but I'm not really a fan of the L shape burners on it. From my research I've seen Roccbox is better so been looking for those in offer up but never could find one. But funny story, my friend wanted his ooni back yesterday which prompted me to look up pizza ovens and lo and behold, there happens to be Roccbox for sale. The dude was selling them brand new for 390, but I got him down to 360. It's sitting in my living room now, can't wait to use it!

Hey Noel, thank you very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, greatly appreciate it! I agree the ooni pro is the best ooni oven out there by far and it’s a great size! I considered it when buying mine but at the price point I couldn’t justify it, by the time I purchased the gas burner, the peel , the cover I was almost going to be at the price point of a higher quality oven such as an ALFA OVEN! I have nothing against ooni ovens if I were to buy one the pro would definitely be my choice! My next oven is going to be the Gosney dome, if you haven’t seen it check it out!

So I am to the point of choosing another pizza oven, and am torn between this one and the Koda 16. The only things I am a bit concerned about is that the pizza stone is non-removeable in the Roccbox, and this means I couldn't swap it out for say a steel or aluminum (not necessarily a deal breaker), but also what happens when the stone eventually gets a crack in it? I don't plan on moving the oven anywhere, so portability is not an issue. I feel that the Roccbox has superior build quality over the Ooni. I do like the larger, easier to see into cookspace on the Ooni ( my current Bertello oven is really hard to see into, requiring a flashlight), as I want to be able to expand beyond just pizza cooking , using cast iron etc. I do like that the Roccbox is available much sooner than the Ooni (I don't really want to wait until winter is almost here to get it) What are the dimensions of the front opening? It appears to be "taller" than my Bertello. Gosh, seems I really prattled on for a bit...:)
@HarplandProductions
@HarplandProductions 2 года назад
Hey thanks so much for watching, yes you’re correct you cannot remove the stone but on The other hand the stone is twice as thick as the Ooni, so minimal chance of it cracking! I wouldn’t recommend using steel in a high heat pizza oven, I think it works great for New York style pizza‘s were the ovens below 700° but for Neapolitan pizza I still prefer a stone! Roccbox is phenomenal bill quality I don’t think you’ll regret it. My concern with the kora 16 is that the gas burner is very cheap, very similar to a gas grill burner and the insulation isn’t very good you have to give it time to warm back up in between pizzas! Regarding being able to see inside the ovenThe ideal height is to have the oven opening around 42 to 45 inches high depending on how tall you are so it’s easier to see inside and launch and turn the pizza

@HarplandProductions
@HarplandProductions 3 года назад
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Mike! I am the same way! The Roccbox used to be the same price as the Ooni Pro but they have sense dropped the price a couple of hundred $! So from a $ perspective roccbox is cheaper! The main thing is what do you want to use it for? The Pro is great if you have the space and want to cook full meals in roasting pans or or large NYC style pizzas but for me i likes the size of the roccbox better, it gives me more room on my pizza station to prep the pizzas! And by the time you get the peel and gas burner you are at the $800 mark which puts you almost in range of large wood burning oven! Also love the coll to touch insulation and the fact that it stays ar full temp without ever needing a door! End of the day if you goal (like mine was to get the best build quality small / portable oven) to hone my pizza skills then eventually get a large wood burning oven! Then Roccbox is a great option!

@@HarplandProductions Considering your experience and very helpful videos I decided to purchase a Roccbox. Fortunately I have a local business that has them in stock. For the price and the build quality it can't be beat. I wish it was a bit larger but i'll live with it. Gozney does have another model coming out or might be available as I write this but the starting price is $1300.00 for the wood burner and there will be a gas version of it coming out as well. I think that one will around $1500.00! It's called the Dome. It will burn wood or run on gas. Come on Power Ball. LOL.

Hi! I have asked on a similar pizza channel as I am on the fence in between the roccbox and the koda 16. They recommended the koda 16 due to the larger cook area and ease to turn pizzas. What is your view? Have you tried the koda 16 as well ? I like the roccbox price and add-ons better but if the larger cook area is going to help me I rather do that. What's your view? This will be my first high temp oven and I want to make the right decision. Thanks a lot for the videos
@HarplandProductions
@HarplandProductions 2 года назад
Hello Jaime, Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to reach out to me! They are very different ovens in terms of build quality. 1st off they both make great pizza but the roccbox is much more of a commercial grade oven vs the ooni, but that doesn't mean it doesn't make great pizza. If you will be making Neapolitan pizza they both are great size and yes the Ooni will give you more space and is easier to turn the pizza but for me i do not the like the grade of materials it's made of, the stone is very thin and the steel and insulation are lacking in my opinion which means you need to wait a few minutes between pizzas to let it heat back up to optimal pizza temp. The roccbox is built like a champ and will retail full heat non stop for hours while you cook pizza after pizza, The roccobox burner is also much higher quality, the Koda 16 basically uses an "L" shaped gas grill burner. It really comes down to what you want, if you want to make NYC style pizzas that are 16" then the Koda 16 is your choice, if you want to focus on Neapolitan pizza and you want top build quality than i would go roccobox all the way. if you not 100% sure you will like making pizza you could also save $ and go with the original koda, it's about 1/2 the price. Hope that helps, again i am not an ooni basher i just prefer Gozney because of the commercial grade quality but i have a lot of good friends who love their Kodas
@jaimeTF
@jaimeTF 2 года назад
@@HarplandProductions thanks! I will be doing Neapolitan pizza mainly, so I think the roccbox makes more sense here. Also the roccbox is cheaper which is a good point. I did a deep dive on Pizza ovens and wound up with the ooni koda 16. The quality is equal to the roccbox but the burners is way better and it has more room for moving Pizza (or 16" Pizza) and it can be converted to natural gas. If the reviews on the wood burner on the roccbox were good I would have given a few more points to the roccbox...

Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment Sonia, I appreciate it! You can indeed make other things in it, you can cook vegetables and meats in cast-iron skillet‘s and you can do breads although I would recommend flat breads or something that don’t require a lot of rising because the small nature of the oven in the high heat can cause it to burn easily. Breads like naan and fougasse are easy to make using the roccbox! You can do other breads you just have to monitor the temperature very closely!

Thanks so much for watching! Yes Ooni makes great little ovens, don't really like to say anything bad about them but they are very different ovens. I agree Green isn't for everyone, i originally wanted RED but the green has grown on me :) The great thing about the roccbox is that the insulation and stone are so think that a door isn't needed at all. To your point, when i do use wood in it and it's windy then a door would come in handy, I actually have a 3rd party door that was designed for the roccbox that is very similar to the ooni on. it has a clip on shelf and the door has a hook that you hang it from the shelf. Hopefully you have a chance to check out some of my other videos also, I have a newer bigger DOME oven that is pretty cool also!

I love my Koda, but your #2 was one of the things I was looking most forward to when I ordered a Roccbox last week lol. I love the bright green because it stands out. But, sadly Gonzey has changed the color to Olive. It's still very green, but it's dark and subtle. I was sad when I realized the oven I was about to get delivered wouldn't be glow in the dark neon green. :( Different strokes for different folks I guess. You know Gozney also has a Gray Roccbox? Which is a color that should be unoffensive to most.

Can't wait for my dome to ship. I have karu 16 and it's the first oven from ooni that is thickly insulated all around (20mm) and also I feel surpasses the roccbox. It's not 100% better in every way but i think it mostly is now with the positives outweighing the roccbox floor and insulation. I plan on making 16" ny style and then neapolitan around 12-14 inches so wondering if the karu outperforms the dome for a bigger pizza.
@HarplandProductions
@HarplandProductions 2 года назад
Did you end up ordering the wood only or dual fuel? I think the Karu 16 is definitely a step in the right direction for Ooni and if you want to make larger pizzas then yes it's a better option than the Roccbox, but it's also double the price and for that extra price your really only getting 4" inches. The roccbox still has much thicker insulation and stone, which is why it doesn't need a door to maintain heat like the Karu. I think the Karu is better for NYC style because you can lower the heat and close the door to maintain a more even low temp. Hard to compare the Karu to the Dome, the The Karu still falls into the, "Portable" oven category. The Dome has more than double the insulation and the stone floor is more than twice as think as the Karu, but you pay for all of this it's also double the price. Long story short, if you have $1,500 then the Dome by far is a better oven, if you want a midsized, good quality oven that can cook bigger pizza but you want to spend under $1,000 then the Karu is great, if you want a top quality small portable oven then i still love the Roccbox.
@overnightclassic2
@overnightclassic2 2 года назад

@HarplandProductions

@overnightclassic2
@overnightclassic2 2 года назад
@@HarplandProductions also if you're wondering karu 16 is 4.6" bigger stone in the width and front/back it's a lot bigger depending how small you make your fire. Thickness is about 15mm vs 19mm on the roccbox. The under floor insulation seems to be attached calcium silicate but on the karu it's maybe 1/2inch ceramic fiber between two sheets of metal. Theres about 3/4 inch everywhere else though and the top is about 1 inch in spots. Height about double and it hits almost 7 inch in spots but the opening is 5.7"

I understand, I did the same thing when i was searching. Regarding the price, Once you add a peel and the gas burner, etc. you will be pretty close in price. The roccbox includes a peel and the gas burner at the base price. They both make fantastic pizza and the Karu is a great price point! I have actually considered a Fyra because i have a pellet smoker / grill and would like to try to make pizza with pellets. It truly comes down to what you need! For me the pizza stone thickness, insulation, and being solid 304 grade stainless steel were important to me. Mine sits outside year round so being stainless steel is a must for me! If you want something for camping or will be moving it around a lot and only want to cook with wood then the Karu is half the weight and includes the wood burner by default! Hope that helps. The downside of the Karu is the stone base will need time between cooks to get back up to temperature. It does not have the insulation needed for back to back cooks. Granted, it's only a 5-10 minute wait, but it's needed. It's a great oven still and cooks excellent.

I like the look of this stove over the ooni. BUT what initially drew me to an affordable pizza oven was that it burns wood. I live in the Northern Sierras and wood is plentiful. I don’t see a chimney on this stove. Given I want a WOOD BURNING PIZZA OVEN which oven is best?
@HarplandProductions
@HarplandProductions 3 года назад
The roccbox isn’t know for being good with wood! That being said they just announced the new updated version of their wood burning attachment which is supposed to be great!! If it were me and I was going to be dedicated to wood-burning instead of gas I would opt for one with a larger firebox and the ability to put larger pieces of wood in! One of the problems also with these portable pizza oven‘s are that they need to be loaded with wood from the back so it depends on where you’re going to locate your oven for me I have it in the corner of the patio so getting to the back of the ovens very inconvenient and difficult, if yours is going to be out in the open on a table or somewhere easy to access this is an a problem! Also the wood needs to be cut up into smaller pieces I would say probably 2 to 3 inch diameter by about 6 inches in length to be able to fit into the fire boxes and typically you need to use either oak, apple , birch or another type of hardwood that doesn’t produce much smoke , more heat and smoke! The Ooni Pro would probably be my choice because it has the largest fire box! But if I was going to be a dedicated wood burner I would probably consider buying a larger oven that was dedicated to wood-burning, they load from the front!
@jeffellermeyer4517

Yes. I understand that the heat source is better if it comes from the SIDE of the oven. The more I research these I find that the more extremely costly WOOD FIRED PIZZA OVENS are that for a reason. I would love to find a balance between great functionality and cost. 🤣

I was ogling the Roccbox for months but you've convinced me to keep my Ooni 12. I only cook one pizza at a time for my wife and I. If I did a lot more it might be a good reason to get a Roccbox. 1. I don't need tank quality build. Toyota build is good enough. I only use it once a week and my Ooni now 2 years old isn't showing any sign of wear. 2. Heat up time on the Ooni is much faster and the insulation is good enough for me to put my hand on even at full temperature. There is no reason for it to retain heat after my 90 second cook is done. In fact it's a disadvantage as I can't pull the stone out as fast. 3. The stone removes easily for carrying the unit lessening the weight. Plus I always get it dirty with flour, cornmeal or semolina and again it's soooo easy to remove and clean. 4. The temperature gauge is nice, but I don't even check it on mine anymore. I know at full blast it's up to temperature in 15-20 minutes. 5. I already have it and another $500 for a similar oven would be folly.

Thanks so much for watching! Yes i agree, if you already have the Ooni Koda 12 then i would just use it until your ready for something larger! @@HarplandProductions That dome is amazing, but again for me it would be a waste of oven. My fantasy would be something like the Roccbox in 16". They say my Ooni 12 makes an 11" pizza but I find that near impossible. With only a 1/2" to the sides and burner it's far too difficult to place and keep from burning. I'd guess with a 16 it would be easy to make a 12" pizza. In my 2 years experience, you need at least 2" on all sides.

@@HarplandProductions Ok, a change & turnaround. I have since bought the Roccbox. As a light pizza maker (1/wk) it didn't make much difference if it was the Ooni or Roccbox. In fact the Ooni had a lot in it's favor for my kind of usage. It was cheaper, the mouth and stone are marginally bigger, I think it heats up faster, uses slightly less btu's and it's lighter. Ok, why did I get the Roccbox? Well I had a problem with Ooni they don't really advertise. If you have a bit of a breeze into the mouth of the oven, it will send heat out the back and melt the back dial and the surrounding bezel. I had to replace mine twice. Finally I made a wooden knob and solved the problem. But in spite of that, the valve itself locked up once most likely due to heat, but it's working fine now after a bit of fiddling. This finally caused me to lose confidence in the oven. The Roccbox valve is much further away from the heat and I doubt I'd have this problem. Plus from multiple sources, the Roccbox is slightly easier to cook being more forgiving due to the flame configuration. I got it a few days ago and am looking forward to my first pie. And yes, it is very well built - as I knew it would be.

@HarplandProductions
@HarplandProductions 3 года назад
It’s an OK oven, the outer metal is about the same quality as the lower end ooni ovens Where they missed the mark is with the wood burner and the gas burner they use very cheap low grade metal For those! the wood burner has a tendency to warp when he gets too hot! And it doesn’t have nearly the same level insulation as roccbox! If it was $200 cheaper I would say yes but for the current price you’re better off buying an ooni or roccbox! You can’t even compare this to the quality of the roccbox! Roccbox is 100% high grade stainless And uses the best quality metal and pizza stone for the price!

Honestly, Neapolitan pizza is only in the oven 60 seconds (850°F) so the amount of wood flavor is extremely minimal if any! gas is my preferred method! First off, thank you very much for watching and commenting! Second, this oven is extremely efficient and well insulted! In the US a standard propane tank has 20 lbs of gas and the Roccbox on high can run over 40 hours per tank! That’s a lot of pizzas! It usually takes about 30 minutes to get to heat (450°C / 850°F) For a Neapolitan pizza, then the pizzas are only in the oven 60 to 90 seconds each so depending on how fast you can make pizzas ! I would say on average a person can stretch top and cook a pizza every 3 to 5 minutes. In about 30 minutes I can usually cook 10 pizzas so in one hour I can warm the oven up to top heat and cook 10 pizzas and I can do that around 40 times on a tank of gas!

The roccbox uses higher grade quality of stainless steel, pizza stone, and insulations but it also cost more for those reasons. @Smilerhaha Again, thank you for watching! I have a lot of friends who are very loyal Ooni owners and they love them. The Karu is nice, If you want to use charcoal and or wood it will be a nice over for you. If you think you will be using gas then by the time you purchase the gas burner and the turning peel, then you are right at the cost of a roccbox :) which has both of those included :) The Karu and most of the other Ooni ovens do have stainless steel but they are made of 430 grade steel which is a lower grade steel. Notably, 304 contains between 8 - 10.5% nickel whereas 430 contains 0% nickel. The inclusion of nickel in 304 makes the metal more corrosion and weather resistant but the trade off is that it’s a lot more expensive which is one of the main reasons for the difference in cost between the brands

Having just received an ooni koda 16 after a 3 month wait, I am happy with the 16” size but there are definitely issues with the Koda 16. Mine would not light initially, even after doing all the included troubleshooting steps. On the ooni community I found other Koda 16 owners complaining of the same thing, or of the flame of the koda dying. I performed the FSD fix that was released in April and that allowed my Koda 16 to light. Now I have the problem where the flame dies out after running 10-11 minutes. Ooni support says the thermocouple inside the oven needs to be cleaned every 10 uses (I have not tried that yet as I just received the email). The third issue is that my stone temperature only reaches 700 degrees in the center after 20-30 minutes of preheating on high. Customer supoort says that is the perfect temperature to cook a pizza, even though they make the claim of 932 degrees F after 20 minutes. The center of the stone only reaches 850 degrees F after 45-50 minutes of heating, never reaching the 932 degrees as advertised. I would definitely consider the Roccbox except for the size limitation of 12 inches. I definitely like the extra room in the Koda 16 to maneuver things around. Just thought I would add to this thread with my experience since there are people who are complaining about not having the Koda 16 information here.

The temperature of the stone is still in the 750-800 degree F range but otherwise it works! Finally! I was ready to get a refund and wait for a larger roccbox ( or get an ooni pro) as I do like having the extra room in the koda16 to maneuver and put cast iron grills/pans, but for now the koda 16 seems to be working more or less as it should.

@@kierscotons5427 I asked my neighbor and they've not had any such issues with the Koda 16, including time to temperature. Try watching Got2EatPizza channel. Kenji Lopez also had no issues with his Koda 16 getting to temperature. The Dome looks really cool but I feel Gozney has overshot on price by quite a bit. The stand seems a must and itself overpriced for what you apparently get. I had a custom stand built for my Big Green egg for less. Wood only plus stand I can get a fully decked out Kamado Joe for grilling at Costco or elsewhere. I'd then still have money left over for a Karu, Roccbox, or Koda 16 for a dedicated pizza oven plus accessories. The KJ has a pizza accessory that will also work with BGE and a few third party options exist. At this price they're also approaching the cost of some of the smaller Forno Bravo Bella's that are larger. 1700 for dual fuel plus stand seems about 400 too much for said kit. Single fuel plus stand feels better priced at 1000. For that price I can get a Kamado Joe at Costco and have money left over for an Ooni Karu for pizza and get a better grilling experience. The Dime's usable space is in the neighborhood of the Ooni Pro which I expect Ooni to refresh with all they've learned the last 3 years.

Hello Christopher, first off, thanks for watching! They are both great ovens, the Roccbox is going to be a much higher quality, in terms of overall build quality but the Koda will still make good pizza, it just has lesser quality in the stone, burner and insulation, etc. Regarding Propane vs Natural Gas, the benefits of using propane are that it gets hotter, which is great for Neapolitan pizza and it makes the oven 100% portable, so you can take it anywhere and make pizza which is nice. I Take my roccbox to friends houses in the summer for pizza nights or camping, etc. If you are set on making bigger NYC style pizza then the Ooni might be a better choice because of the size. Wood burning in the roccbox is very annoying. But it’s hard to overstate how much better built it is than the ooni. I’ve seen them both in the flesh which is not very common as most of the time you’d buy one by seeing them online. But the roccbox is a tank (like comparing those awesome class A amps from the 70s that weigh a ton to the cheaper amps of the 90s). It really feels a lot sturdier and the isolation is miles better. The ooni 16 is a bit better than the 12 but still far away. I also have young kids and though the roccbox does warm up on the outside it’s nothing compared to the other ovens, a lot safer. Wood burning I found a pain but for a backyard oven I use for a few pizzas during the weekend, so I actually find burning wood annoying and wasteful (I’ll happily barbecue with wood though). For me since I’m a gas user for our weekend pizza oven, it was roccbox all the way. Love your channel, keep up the good work.

Roccbox or a traditional oven like Etna 600 ?
@HarplandProductions
@HarplandProductions 2 года назад
Hello Anteater23, Thanks so much for watching! It's hard to compare the two types of ovens, they are very different! The roccbox falls into the, "Portable Oven" category like Ooni which are designed to be able to easily move around and use with different types of full with minimal set up and space required. The Etna is just a smaller sized, "Traditional Oven" and these types require a permanent set up, the Etna weighs almost 300 lbs more than the roccbox so you're not going to be moving it around or taking it to parties :) it will also require a very heavy duty base or stone table top to set it on and the roccbox can be used on pretty much any surface, table, etc. So really depends what you want, if you are only interested in cooking pizza at home and you have the space and location for a permanent oven and only want to cook with wood then a traditional oven is great. I like the roccbox (I also have the gozney dome) because using gas for neapolitan pizza is so much easier and quicker, for making pizza mid week for the family it's nice to be able to just turn it on and start cooking without all of the prep! I use wood only when we have people over and i have more time.

Obviously never used an Ooni Karu or used the Woodburner on the Roccbox - for me the new Karu is amazing build quality - does the wood thing so much better and still cheaper even with the gas burner - Woodbuner in the Rocc does not work well as no chimney and I love the option to use wood as it really adds something to the pizza. plus throw it in the bag and in the car and take it camping! Roccbox is great quality and great oven but I think the Karu pips it on all points.

I feel like ovens should be ranked based on versatility /types of pizza. I think the roccbox would make a better Margherita than any ooni. A napulitan pizza doesn’t require a big size mouth as the pies themselves are more of a personal pie. The ooni is good because of its versatility: making a New York pie , Margherita , and others. The price point of the ooni’s are difficult to justify.
@surrealartisan4625
@surrealartisan4625 11 месяцев назад
I have strong opinions regarding pizza in general. I look at the napulitan pie as the original type well because it is. I’d rather have an oven that does perfects the napulitan pie way before any other style. I’ll probably get a lot of thumbs down for this comment but other styles are either imposters of what the true pizza is.

Ooni makes great pizza ovens also, but for what I needed I need something Heavier duty, the only one equivalent in that quality of metal and build was the pro and it was a lot more expensive! Like a lot of other reviewer’s have said if your main fuel is going to be charcoal, pellets, or wood then ooni makes great pizza ovens if you need something heavier duty and predominately gas burning then for me the roccbox is a better choice! The thickness of a pizza stone in the quality of the insulation and heat retention are the most important things for me! If someone wants extreme portability and pellets then the cheaper ooni’s are good choices! I might consider the Fyra because I would like. Pellet oven Also!

I was curious, and went back and watched that review. One of the issues is is that they used wood pellets in both of them, which is OK with the Ooni but the Roccbox wasn’t designed for pellet usage and needs kiln dried wood. Editor’s note: We tested both ovens using wood pellets; Roccbox says kiln-dried wood will work in their ovens more efficiently. Again they both make great pizza ovens, if you’re budget is limited or if you need a larger oven then Ooni has some great options.

@HarplandProductions
@HarplandProductions 3 года назад
First, thank you very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I agree the Koda is a great oven! especially if you want something smaller and more portable! For me I wanted something built more to commercial kitchen standards. The roccbox is 304 grade stainless steel and the Koda is coated Cold Rolled Steel (CRS) The difference between CRS and 304 stainless steel is that CRS will eventually rust and corrode! Stainless steel is an alloy that prevents rust and corrosion and is more heat resistant. I also wanted Highest grade pizza stone. (the roccbox's is almost double the thickness). With 3 little kids, I also like the exterior (cool to touch) silicon insulation that stays cool even when at 932 degrees. Both companies make great pizza ovens And in my video i tried to focus on the top three reasons why I chose my oven in particular! Regarding it staying warm for hours. I’ve actually ran out of gas before and continued cooking pizza for up to 30-40 minutes afterwards, it’s a great oven!
@jpopescu
@jpopescu 3 года назад
NOT quite accurate when comparing to the OONI 16 oven. You talk about things like doors which BOTH ovens dont even consider, why? Both are insulated very well, who wants to touch it anyways? I would be most concerned about the BURNING of the pizzas, like the burners and size of them. The Stones from OONI are actually the SAME thickness, Your comparing apples to oranges! The OONI 16 height is better, less chance to burn the pizzas. One last thing to consider is the legs and the ovens ability to NOT MOVE as IF these start to slide, NO ONE will catch them they will fall off the table and that is KEY. I would even suggest that the table have a ledge "Lip" on the shelf to prevent this. SIZE, Stones, Insulation and PRICE of the OONI (especially on Black Friday, $399) are all better if not just comparable!
@HarplandProductions
@HarplandProductions 3 года назад
Hey John, first off thank you very much for watching my video and taking the time to comment! I agree the Kodas are a great option at their price points and it is like comparing apples to oranges! The stone on the Koda 12 is 10mm . KODA 16 is 15mm and the roccbox is 19mm so when I reference that it’s double the thickness at the time I posted this the Koda 16 wasn’t available yet. The insulation is very important to me but maybe not to everyone, for me it’s just a lot safer because I have three kids and there’s always kids run around the backyard near the outdoor kitchen so it’s nice having the peace of mind that no one will get burnt if they actually touch it and it’s right next to my pizza making station so not too far fetched to hit my elbow on the side of the pizza oven one stretching Dough! The other benefit of the double is that it never loses temperature I can cook pizzas for a couple hours and it keeps spot on the entire time! But you’re right, if you’re on a budget inn want pizza oven ooni has some great options. For me the main things were build quality, pizza stone thickness and insulation I wanted something that was 304 gauge stainless steel and the thick as possible pizza stone and insulation! All of the ooni’s with the exception of the pro, are made out of a lot cheaper metal (carbon by steel) which is still solid but it is just not as corrosion resistant as 304 stainless steel that’s one of the main drivers of the price difference! The other thing I’m not a fan of with the Koda is the actual burner, it’s similar to a traditional gas grill burner and not as high as quality as the other Ooni burners! I have lots of friends that use ooni’s and they all love them and again for an entry-level pizza oven and for the price it really is a great oven! the roccbox Black Friday deal is $499, it includes the placement peel, the turning peel, and a cover!
