I had a hand in making it possible a homeless extreme drunkard's neglected BM, who had been hit by a car, sitting in animal control with a BADLY broken leg, could finally get the surgery he "Bear" so desperately needed. & also be legally adopted by a responsible police officer, by my going into the homeless camp, retrieving the alcoholic & taking him to sign away his ownership rights.
I can’t tell if you’re more proud of the dog or yourself! Your story would have been better if you just mentioned the dog 🐕 and not yourself! But that was nice of you for saving a wounded military dog to help out police officers! Anyway, these are the most majestic amazing dogs & heroes out there! Simply beautiful to watch!😊
Also white swiss shepherd are becoming important as military or police dogs, and very useful in Austria for rescue to people trapped by an avalanche. Because of the Alpines are between France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria, they are been introduced in some para rescue units or services. In Spain, in the Pyrenees, the WSS is been introduced by the Guardia Civil's GREIM unit (High Mountain Rescue Group). There's a documentary series in spanish Prime. WSS aren't having that displasia problems because the breed has not been fu....ed by irresponsible breeders
@@GladysGilmer How would he have done that? “So there was this injured dog, he got himself surgery, and got his owner to sign him away so he could become a police dog…” Or you could just not be so triggered by someone sharing a story of helping a dog.
Yes, I have a 5 mo old, and he is THA TRUTH! Even when not training, he is taking in his surroundings, body language, studying everything. very impressive.
I don’t have one but I love these dogs. I had one at the animal shelter that I walked and I loved the way he would circle behind me and come between my legs and sit whenever we stopped. Then he would just sit there and watch everything. This dog didn’t even know me but man I felt like this dog was looking out for me. I love my dog but even he doesn’t give me that feeling. Fortunately he was adopted by an ex military guy who had worked with Belgians.
Lol, I've got one & an Aussie (both are bred as herd dogs). --When I'd walk my Aussie if I stopped to kneel down for something(distracted) he'd stand a top/across me on point, looking for danger(he'd look back n 4th between me & EVERYTHING else to see when I was ready to stand, lol). --They're so smart, it's not like teaching a dog basic commands; you can see the understanding in their eyes(like when explaining something to a young person, the visible signs as they're comprehending your meaning)❤
That is awesome, thank you for your time with him, and maybe one day, you will get another, or a puppy like him, and bring great joy to you and your family I pray that whoever has him, he is a great soldier. Praise God
I never would have thought of training that way! I mean, it makes sense, but it never would have crossed my mind. I would expect it to be dragging something behind it on the ground as resistance training, not a drag chute!
@@jeffhaynes8848oh God what a mess having to train with the rainbow colored drag chute following you around town was, I know it was embarrassing for so many.
I love these dogs, they are perfect for the military and also really good with civilians. Smart, fast and extremely loyal. Bravo to the people that made this video.
I wouldn't say they are good for civilians. They are crazy, won't stop and need a job. Most people won't have the training ability nor the physical aptitude to keep up with it and keep it sane.
My vet treated one that they suspected of having a brain tumor as it was getting aggressive with its handler. They brought the dog in and he ended up being diagnosed with painful acid reflux! I'm glad he got treated and got to go back to work!
Thank you for this lovely and informative video! I'm not a dog person but your video made me fall in love with this breed! My outmost respect and admiration for all Navy Seals and their K9 partners! Stay safe.
When your backup weapon is a Belgian Malinois (see initial picture of SEAL exiting back deck of Chinook), you know you have a badass job classification.
Someone I know who is a K-9 officer and has a malinois said the malinois is like the German Sheppard but on cra*k. He told me thru the ball in his back yard and he thru it over the fence (accidently). The malinois cleared the fence like he did it all the time. He got the ball and jumped back into his yard.
An older friend of mine had one. They started down a small hill to cross the creek and his Belgian Malinois jumped against his chest and knocked him backwards. He was stunned and confused! Then he saw the rattlesnake. She's a good dog!
@@PAMATaylor They take a lot of work to be mentally enriched. Many people get a breed of dog with no knowledge of what the breed requires, I’m sure you know this. However, most people do not!!!
They're extremely intelligent & loving which makes them super protective. They don't attack threats, they seek to eliminate them quickly & efficiently as possible(straight for the throat)❤
As a owner of one he still surprises me daily with his smarts amd endurance. Back from a 5 hour hike? Better not sit down, it's ball time! But he will calm down during cuddle time when he lies/hamg down in positions that will make any cat jealous 😂
Someone did a great job coming up with the Belgian Malinois breed. They perfectly fulfill the role they were bred for. Amazing how many dog breeds man has created by selectively breeding down from wolves.
Too much inbreeding yes, also breeding to create specific traits… size, low hips, sloped back. This is why I don’t support the AKC. I’ve had German Shepherd Dogs my whole life. Also a former research scientist (genetics). I think the Belgian Malinois are incredible dogs, & I’d happily have one! That said, my last four GSDs were wonderful dogs. I lost my last one 2 years ago. We hiked all over together in the Northeastern Appalachian Mountains, throughout the Western Cascades on the West Coast, up into Washington, & BC, Canada, WY, & MT. She was smaller, fast, steadfastly loyal, smart, & brave. I wouldn’t have traded her for anything. I can see why this breed is used more often though. They are smaller & more compact, faster, & maybe less genetic health-related issues, perhaps?
@@dshepherd107 The breeding for optics and therefore against health is sadly not an AKC only problem. They do or have done that with the German shepherds all over the world. There are people trying to get healthier dogs today, but the damage to the breed is done.
@@Furever_Pets I suppose though I see how smaller lighter ones may be more tactical. He’s a spectacle to see! He’s long and tall … much bigger tan Rotties and German Shepard even. His speed & bite force must trump other normal Mals idk for sure
A CEO BOSS DOG , IN CHARGE Thank you Sir for sharing, smiles when vido first started and I his leap turn in the air , his back paw caught the guys face , guy reaction fast on moving to side ...great team
German Shepherds do that too. My friends dog fought an assailant who had already injured his master despite multiple knife wounds. The assailant ended up missing an arm while my friends dog broke off several of his fangs and needed titanium implant replacements and fully recovered.
Just look and take in at how beautiful especially the face of these dogs faces are. So dark and stealthy looking. When the owner is near by the dogs eyes and ears are glued to the master owner just waiting for the next command. So loyal, so attentive. Blows me away. Blessings to this hard working breed and these operatives. Cheers. 😊
😂 That can happen ! Mine have been perfect for the most part, thankfully! But, i had one female that was just a damn menace!! No fault of her own though, She was already 3 when I got her & the previous owner tried to "protection" train her, without actually knowing wtf he was doing🤦 so, she just wanted to attack ANYTHING that moved & was "close enough" to me/us.. I was able to get her under control but, it was ALLOT of work, allot of time & very costly.
I've had three German shepherds now. all of them have been fantastic. these breeds do require a lot of attention and excercise though. especially Belgians. I have to imagine they would be a menace if you aren't willing or able to stimulate them everyday. some people dont really have time for them. if you live alone and work full time, especially if you work oing hours, it might not be the best idea to get one. might need to stick with a more docile and lazy breed
@@randal3122 Biggest thing is how the dog is bred, by who & what for.. get a mal bred for "show/looks" you'll likely have a dog without the insane drive & a dog that's able to be more of a companion, than a work all day type.. Get a dog from strictly working lines, military, protection type, the dog is likely to naturally be a bit nutty lol.
These dogs are beautiful in every sense, but I think my mini goldendoodle is also highly intuitive, intelligent, curious, obedient and fast as a whip. I think she could run five miles with me and barely be tired. Or maybe she’s more of a sprinter. I don’t run with her right now as it’s too hot and humid (Houston summers). But she’s a spitfire and I love her!! 😍
@@Furever_Pets The behavior of the Belgian Malinois is on a spectrum, there are many variables to any breed's personality. You're parroting the version of the working mal you've read about via the internet. It's also improbable that even from working lines all pups will have personalities indicative of a working line dog, an occasional dog will not be high drive, it's statistics. There are also low drive pet quality Malinois', who are just happy to just hang out, they're uncommon but they are out there. Maxine my Malinois is happy to just hang out with me and do nothing and when we train she is very high drive. I'm 62 and disabled due to chronic pain, I'm also training my Malinois for her French Ring Brevet hopefully this 2024 fall. Throughout my life I've only had high energy working or sporting line dogs. The bottom line is it has absolutely NOTHING to do with one's physical ability, but everything to do with one's training skillset as well as mental and physical engagement for the dog.
@cherylmillard2067 I always wondered about this. I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis which is a cousin to Rheumatoid Arthritis, except it fuses your bones together. It also brings chronic pain and fatigue. I'm not sure I would be able to keep up with one. I would give anything to have one, but I don't want it to suffer if I can't keep up. I am glad you have found one that you can live with, it has to be an incredible experience.
Labs are perfect. They have the greatest temperament and bond with you so easily. If I could say that one breed is easy to train and live with, it's a Lab. You can't miss with them.
My baby is amazing. She is so sweet and smart. Always ready to work. Walls by my side everywhere I go. She is my bodyguard, and my friend. She is what's called grey sable, and it's named Sheba... between her and my pit Molly, I'm so safe. And they work together doing tasks, playing, catching balls, and working... Oh yah, and napping. ❤.
they require owners that are willing and able to excercise them a lot. german shepherds as well, but malinois even more. dont get one if you arent willing to stimulate them everyday with excercise, play, and/or work. they sure are amazing dogs though
And they are, this is very true and everybody likes when they clacked their teeth. The clacking of the teeth means their high stress... But what they do to them is what makes them so hard to control. After they're done with their missions and they're retired. They really need someone with a lot of patience. And love
We have one, her name is Teagan. She's loyal, tenacious, one alert, scary smart, and loving. They're a great dog if you exercise them and keep the engaged.
They are fiercely loyal as well. I just got a pair for my twin 5 year old grandsons. The dog picked the kid. (We hid the kid, and let the whole litter out. The first dog to find the child went to that child. My grandsons thought it was great their dogs picked them). I got them about mid Jan, and have been getting the dogs and boys to form the bond needed. The dogs are beginning their basic training and will soon be going through protection training.
Make sure you get an excellent trainer. Dogs poorly or incompletely trained as protection animals can be SUPER dangerous! With the proper training though they are amazing at their jobs!
I would love to have one of these dogs... But know I will have to admire from afar... These dogs need a purpose in life to be really happy... If you are lucky to have one. Treat it well and you will have a soulmate for life... 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
My Pocketbully Pitbull dogs are cool to me because ever since I got them, my ex-wife doesn't come over anymore. She knows they don't like her, and I didn't have anything to do with it. Like a gift from God. I love my dogs.
I have one and I can definitely see her doing this kind of work. She’s, fast, precise (she catches flies), fearless and so much energy. Very smart dogs, this breed is not for the faint of heart. They need professional training if you don’t know much about dogs.
No disrespect but I've watched essentially every Hogan's Heroes episode and all the dogs that I ever saw were German Shepherds... after all, it was supposed to be a German Prisoner of War Camp... Stalag 13! I also actually have 2 GSDs myself.
@ronjameson2481 The show always used German Shepards during filming. However, there was one segment in a scene with Klink, where Hogan explained the gestapo used Belgium Shepards.
@@joelhunton8600 Please advise the Title of the episode. I'll then check it out. Otherwise, I doubt that what you are saying is true. I have every episode. Thanks!
A new study says Belgian Malinois is the #1 intelligent dog. I've always felt that way and am glad they're getting the recognition they have always deserved. That being said, these are a different breed of dog and not for 99% of us. They're for law enforcement or military. They need hours of work every day. They're amazing to see them in action.
If you don't have the time to really keep these dogs active, don't bother getting one. They NEED the physical activity and that might be too much for a lot of people....they're freakin' intelligent too. I had one who used to sneak out of his den often. Every time I tried to fix the fence by making it higher but he always found a way to defy gravity or just climb over it 🤷♂️. He was a more than a hand full, but a true companion once you're "in sync". Whenever I got home from work I used to go to his den and just sit there with him and he would just curl himself onto my lap like a baby..loved him...RIP Rocky 😢
I used a Doberman and the German Shepherd but in Schutzhund the dog that is surpassing dogs they will work forever the Belgian Malinois. They have drive and will speed to the rescue!
