Bought a very nice Greener for $35. I hand load trimmed cases for it and it's been a good pheasant gun. I surprise friends when I take it trap shooting, too.

British folk often look down on semi-automatics too so don’t take it personally. They certainly are experts on double guns so perhaps calling your Baikal a mid level shotgun is a bit higher praise then it deserves. I however can’t find much fault in the brand and really like a good cheap gun that simply works and can take a decent beating.

Also, greetings from Canada. Maybe when we are finished skeet and trap we can go shoot my dozen or so pistols or perhaps several of my AR15’s at the range. Our British friends may need to buy a plane ticket to do so though. 😊

The franchi is a lovely gun - but the lincoln would be the smarter of the two in my opinion. Plus Lincoln parts will never be hard to come by - as they haven't changed in 35 years.

The Franchi is smart and shoot well but don't take hard abuse too well. The benelli M1 is only 100 more and is definitely the best mid range auto. That or go down the armsan route - either a 612 for under budget or a phenoma well in budget

Great guns - probably the best used guns for a few hundred quid

The production line churned out fewer guns back then, so the wood and finish upon it were a bit better

@@HJDore My licence has not come through as they did not get my referee's email, but should be soon. I spent this morning at a clay ground getting a professional lesson (used a Browning 525), which was great. I think it's a choice between the ATA SP, Silver pigeon or the Yildiz Pro personally (its a weigh up of brand vs price vs quality/service & long term reliability/support). I am probably choosing the SP standard to start with and then get a more expensive gun when I get into the sport, assuming that I don't hate the SP of feel that I can do a lot better with a beretta etc. I went to a shop today and she was bigging up the lincoln as a second hand cheap gun, but not 100% convinced. My wife wants to get involved so the weight of the SP is good, so the elegant gold model should keep her happy as that looks really sexy. Works as a back up gun if i want to take the hobby further too. I have been to several gun shops and the only one that has been bothered to engage with me (show me the guns, educate me & give me some useful advice) has been Botley! Yes I am looking at £1000 but I could afford a lot more & will probably do that in a few years, but a starter gun makes sense for now.

yourdjuk there’s a form in the printed out set of forms for the application that a ref should fill out, I don’t know if they will accept any other method as I know firearms licensing is generally quite picky, but if your in hampshire it’s usually quite good, (depending on officer) haven’t had any prolonged problems with the licensing but rather the after you receive your license parts.

Yes had the visit from the policeman, he has just not got the email my referee sent. Probably in junk folder?

yourdjuk hmm don’t know then, I know from experience that if there’s something wrong they won’t send anything back (apart from license) or contact you to inform you of wrong doing for example you won’t here from them to confirm they know of an firearms or shotgun entry onto your license. But chances are they have got your email and are working on your license or they haven’t and in which case you should print the form off of the internet before your application is forgotten about.

Best not to thrust at made in Turkey stuff! On a serious note, we had a lot of luck with the 900 series, although this 1000 series is made 1000 miles nearer to us in Italy in a different factory, from different materials, in a different way!
