@@financejunky6096 @cam pacttrick @winters seo I 100% would love to watch winters do some meta Bat Reps. TBH I despise most meta games like when people talk about MTG and "breaking" the format. The reason I despite "meta" talk in most cases is b/c the people talking meta have terrible manners and are generally toxic to be around/watch. Winters is a gentleman and a scholar, even when he's running down the table screaming mad like a Penance Engine. I would watch a meta Bat Rep from Winters b/c as cheezy as the lists would be, the players would have good sportsmanship. That's what makes his other non meta Bat Reps fun, they play with honor-even when trying to gouge each others eyes out.

Long description but my recommendation: I think Warriors are very under rated right now. Big squad of 9, deathspitters and 3 venom cannons, Prime nearby, they put out a respectable amount of firepower. But I believe what makes them good right now is the 1cp strat to reduce damage they take by 1 down to 1, combined with Adaptive Physiology with either ignoring ap -1/-2 or the +2 save when in cover and always in cover on a jormungder fleet (For a 2+ armour save!!). If they have a -1 to hit aura nearby, and catalyst or leviathan, they become such a bullet sponge for even strong weapons, and with the 1cp strat being a reaction to being shot at, it means your opponent has two choices.... 1) Leave them alone because they're too hard to kill, meaning their decent firepower just keeps on doing work all game (and they don't make a terrible Single Minded Annihilation target).... 2) Your opponent has to over commit tonnes of firepower to remove them, meaning other workhorses such as Hive Guard or Exocrines aren't being shot at. Even if they bait the strategem by shooting one multi damage weapon at it, it's only a 1cp strategem, and tyranids typically have around 13 with easy double battalions. Not to mention the strategem being incredibly good right now with the amount of 2 damage weapons about for taking on primaris. These guys are basically tougher primaris carrying heavy bolters and lascannons as assault weapons, and frankly are dirt cheap whilst doing so. They're even decent in combat with scything talons and lots of attacks. Did i mention 3 wounds a piece? I could go on but try out the ONE (important 1, don't run 2) big squad of 9 and use the strategem any time a multi damage weapon looks their way, trust me. The heap of defensive buffs these guys can stack is insane for such a cheap TROOP choice. Or go math hammer it against even a leviathan dreadnought's full firepower and all the aura defences and see how much it doesn't do to them. Stay safe, bug brothers

Oh, I even forgot about the maleceptors 2cp strategem to reduce incoming fire's strength by 1. Means even mass S4 and S5 Weaponry struggle as well, S3 weaponry wound on 6's, S8 weaponry only on 3's, it's just way too good.

Warriors are interesting and I would love to have some more (I have three) but they are incredibly expensive in cash for their in game points cost : ( At around £25 for three a min loadout warrior squad costs 41p per point! Insane. My preferred loadout (2 with boneswords/deathspitters, one with bonesword venom cannon) cost around 34p per point.... Genestealers, as an alternative, are half this price and are proven to be great all throughout 8th.

90 hormagaunts with metallic cysts and pack hunters. play feral instinct from blood of baal. =AP3 scything talons! if they wipe out a unit you can play another strat to get it up to AP4. the trick is delivering them via trygons, which can also soak up the overwatch.

For my Raveners, what's worked best is the spinefist ambush. I don't have them come up all the way in the back, but on Turn 2 or 3 of my push to midfield they pop up on whichever flank I feel needs bolstering and have them spring up for the extra weight of firepower. Sure the spinefists don't do a lot of damage, but the weight of fire helps offset that some

Hey Winters, nice to see the whole swarm layed out. It must have taken you some time ;). What really works is the Kronos Power Symbiostorm on an Exocrine. If you really want something dead. It fires 12 times and 5+ to hit counts as additional hits. Furthermore if you are planning with 2 of them, you could give them both a 5++ and allways good BS through adaptive Physiology ;) I think 155 p. is cheap for what they do...

One thing I like in Kraken is a Flyrant with both melee and gun, usually Rending Claws and Miasma Cannon. He can swoop in, shoot, and charge. Next turn he can fall back, shoot his gun and charge again: With the T7 and 3+/4++ save and constantly being in close combat, it's really hard to take him out. Gargoyles are a great unit to support that.

You gotta get yourself a Malanthrope, Winters; I've never had a better objective holder. It is an excellent synapse babysitter for big artillery units like the Exocrine, plus shrouding spores increases the longevity of its allies.
@MB-ey6gb
@MB-ey6gb 4 года назад
Malenthropes are useful for protecting my little gribblies if they’re camping objectives. Also, Hormagaunts are now a thing; may want to consider them as an alternative to raveners. Why you ask? Because BOA allows a big chunk of board consolidation with them so they can wrap up multiple units quite effectively; great versus castles, tho you’d need to compensate that by going with an adaptive hive fleet

I tend to use a mixed list same as you most times winters, flyrants, genestealers, broodlord work well as per the norm, also take a dakkafex, and a Trygon, give some of the big beasties adrenal galnds so they can deep strike with an 8inch re-rollable charge. Doesn't guarantee getting into combat but it does have a good chance if you want to b urn a CP re-roll and good fun :-)

I also play Kraken, personaly I think its hard to beat ripper swarms for utility by grabbing objectives and hiding out of line of site for linebreaker etc also i love hormagaunts for their bounding leap rules, its great for tagging non flying units and shutting down shooty lists, stay safe Winters 👍
@joelaugustin6407
@joelaugustin6407 4 года назад
I was going to say this, rippers are easily one of the best units nids have. The raw utility of a shitty pile of wounds that NOBODY wants to waste fire on dropping in around a corner to grab objectives when it's most inconvenient for your opponent is great. I like putting them near a badly protected tank just for the mind games.

I'm a big believer in both Tyrannid Warriors and the Tyrannid Prime. Mass Deathspitters are good, while smaller groups of Rending + Scythes are shockingly good in melee. But my personal love? Pyrovores. I know, I know, most-mocked unit in existance, but I LOVE the little guys. They're just so dang *useful* but are always overlooked. The little dumbdumbs just fight hard.
@Sanguinarius9999
@Sanguinarius9999 4 года назад
How do you go about getting them in range ? Tyrannocytes?
@Wakshaani
@Wakshaani 4 года назад
No, just leggin' it. They're easy to hide, you lose absolutely nothing by advancing, they can screen the backfield against deep strike (45 pts for "You cannot deep strike within 9" of this model" is pretty good!), they can trot up the flanks, and, in general, the idea is to get them where you need them BEFORE you need them with a good set of eyeballs and knowing the scenario. From there, you want to get stuck in against any 1 damage, high value models, like vehicles, Primaris, and so on, where they kill themselves with acid blood blowback, and rick even more when it dies in an explosion of acid... meanwhile, the acid maw is just gnawing away, one chomp at a time. If they retreat? Flame 'em! Then charge again. There's just about no non-flying unit in the game with a high enough movement to get completely out of their flame range and, if you can flame it, you can charge it. They're just harassment experts that *nobody* knows how to deal with because nobody ever uses them.

1-Genestealers, expensive but fast and always do work in combat. I like running them custom (-1 ap when outnumbering & 4+ save on overwatch) with the SL moving them up. 2-Hive Tyrant, wings, devs, rending claws for the reroll wounds in melee. Acts in all phases, great mobility, and tossing the -1 Kraken relic if you're going Kraken. 3-Hive Guard, I run them as Jorm now in a drop pod. Pair that with the new Jorm psyker power, the adaptive camo adaptation; they and the drop pod reroll all hits when they drop in against a target and have a 2+ save in the open. I run them like this now so they can't be outranged/outmanuvered. I find Exos okay. STR 7 and their range really hampers them. I've found they are only useful against specific targets. Where as HG can nuke just about anything; plus they can take advantage of the reroll Strat. Zoans die easily to volume of fire. I rarely find anyone wastes high AP shots on them. Neuros are great though.

My top 3 (for Kraken): 3. Rippers. Very easy to hide troops that can deep strike for a small price. Just like Spores they are very useful for getting that extra CP from a Brigade detachment. And they are just as good for blocking enemy units and being annoying in general. There are several other units with similar functions like Lictors/Pyrovores and Biovores. But Rippers beat them all simply by their versatility. 2. Neurotrophe. Cheap HQ for synapse and reliable powers. No matter if Smites, Catalyst or whatever you might need. The great thing about them is how realiable, versatile and cheap they are for what they do. Hive Guard and Exocrines are great, but they aren't exactly the best fit for Kraken. If you play them you want to take a Kronos detachmant and build your list around them and not the other way around. 1. Genestealers. Yes, they are fragile. But they are extremely fast and hit like a truck. They are the true working horses for any Kraken list, building up board control, killing key units and even reliably holding objectives thanks for beeing troops. In contrast to how most people play it I don't use the Swarmlord in my list simply because I don't think he is worth it. Yes, it is great to throw a unit reliably into cc in the first round, maybe even two if you use your stratagems wisely and position them well. But more often then not you will end up killing a screening unit and then die without having archived much. Nids in general aren't made for this head throw the wall playstyle and if you do that with your Genestealers you are wasting a lot of potential. Mind that this list is specifically for a Genestealer heavy Kraken list build around a Bridage. I have several units just to tie up enemy units to keep the Genestealers alive and the list wins or fails by my ability to archive that. Repulsors and Knights are a bane cause they are really difficult to tie up (you need a lot of models to block any space they might retread to) but against most other lists it works pretty well. In general I would agree that the Exocrine and Hive Guard are almost must have level of goodness. The only thing speaking against them is their stationary nature and that you need Kronos to play them at their best, which tempts to use too many slow elements that make the list highly susceptible against both hard shooting and melee lists.

I run kraken with dual brrodlords and a bunch of genestealers but i also run dual tranafexes and 3 units of guants making a daisy chain from the backfield of constantly respawning troops that deny deep strike and secure objectives as my gene stealers tie up the front lines. Couple that with two 6 man units of zonatropes and a neurothrope hq that eats away the tanks

With Trygon Prime what actually works well for me is a combination with 30 Termagants with devourers popping out of the ground after him. Especially works well with Imperial Guard. 30 Gaunts can easily exterminate IG shielding of a tank and Trygon is a nice can-opener, especially when you give him this nice stuff that gets him +1S, +1W and +1AP... 7x S8 d6+1W and -4AP have a potential to slam down mid-sized tank in one go, and if you are particularly lucky - even Baneblade... And the two units will take firepower of huge part of enemy forces for 1-2 rounds, allowing your fighty units to get in touch. However this works only on big battles. IMHO if you play under 1500pts - don't bother. Take exocrine instead.

My 2 cents for Hive Fleet Kraken (not including genestealers and the ones mentioned in the video): 1) Old One Eye with Carnifexes (sorry, one makes the other a no brainer, so I can't include one without mentioning the other): They are a wrecking ball of havoc. OOE can't be targeted and the Fexes are -1 to hit with spore cysts (another no brainer). Whether you take them as a hybrid melee/shooting or all melee it is up to you, but these things can redirect the enemy firepower from the more vulnerable ones (cough genestealers cough) ti them, and they can withstand a blow or two. Even if you lose one, he is 122 pts only (mixed version with cysts, glands, senses and bone mace), so you can afford the loss. If for, whatever reason, your opponent ignores them, turn 2 they will chew through his lines. OOE can easily take down a Land Raider on his own on a charge, imagine if it is packed with marines unable to come out because simple gaunts deny them space. That's not unlikely to happen and that's easy the enemy's 1/4 of the army. 2) Malanthrope: a synapse character that gives -1 to all units near him? Yes please! Daisy-chain all the marching units near him and they are more survivable for the dreaded 1st turn. On the 2nd round he can stay in the back and babysit the support/shooting units, such as Exocrines and Hive Guard, giving them extra survivability and synapse.

My top units are Zoanthropes, Warriors and Hormagaunts (60 at least, love the little buggers). These three units have been staples of my lists (I rarely play competitively) since the beginning of the new edition. Blood of Baal suddenly made some of them even better, but I loved them already. I generally play Jormungandr or Leviathan. Zoanthropes are very scary, but it's more about their perceived threat: all things considered, their damage output is not that great, apart from the odd sequence of good rolls but it is true that all targets are equal before mortal wounds, and Zoanthropes allow surgical targeting, in that respect. They act as a huge distraction, and more often than not they attract so much fire that the rest of the army has free rein. Hormagaunts are not killy by nature (although they can become murder machines with Blood of Baal): they are more of a distraction, again (lots of gribblies running at you!), but their 6" pile in and consolidation moves mean they can hostage multiple units, grabbing objectives and shutting down non flying vehicles for the whole game, if the defender makes a wrong move or leaves a hole in the defense. They love tanks, they are so cuddly! Warriors... I just can't have enough of them, and now they have become even more durable with Blood of Baal. Solid midfield Synapse that have a decent shooting and hold their own in close combat, while directing the more specialised units around them. Because of this, my usual HQs are Primes and neurothropes. Cannot remember the last time I have used a Tyrant.

Yep, neurothrope and zoanthrope all the way. Leviathan flyrant 2x scything talons with the leviathan warlord trait (one free reroll a turn) and monstrous size adaptation (need to pay the 1 cp for it and it’s the only one you can take in the army) and then the relic for mortal wounds on 5+ make it a murder machine. Pay the strat for rerolling wounds and charge something at t8. 5 attacks, hitting on 2s rerolling, wounding on 5s rerolling, mortal wounds on each in addition, and each failed save at -4 does a flat 4 damage.

A jormungandr Carnifexe with enhanced senses, spore cysts, heavy venom cannon and deathspitters. The deathspitters aren't as efficient as the devourers but the extra range and strength make them better at hurting this boy's targets. 2+ save, -1 to hit, needs no support, and has the firepower to threaten anything on the battlefield. He's annoying to kill, threatening enough that they have to and when he does die, you have two more!

Might be interesting adding a biovore or 2 to your lists. Quite cheap, great range, no line of sight needed and mortal wounds potential. You might even want them to miss the shot coz then you have a potential movement blocker/mini bullet magnet in the shape of a spore. Its not a unit to build an army around but it is great at annoying your opponent. Hit or miss is both great.

Hive guard and Exocrine are awesome, also i like to use Tyrannofex whit cannon or acid spay they can kill anything!! My favorit unit is Hive Tyrant they are just so awesome, 4+invl. and they can be armed to deal all kind of units + psychic power. I use 3 of them almost every list i play. Behemoth Smash Hive is so epic! Wings, toxin sacs, adrenal glands, monster talons + (relic)Scythes of tyran, Adaptive Physiology: Murderous size. Unstoppable hunger power! Hits 2+ reroll 1s, sixes make extra attaks. Stength 8, +1 to wound, AP-4, Dmg4 wound rolls of 5 and 6 are Dmg5 !

i like to use the custom hive fleet that has: gaunts get 6+ invuln save and reroll advance rolls. in this detachment is where i have roughly 60 gaunts with devourers. The gaunts may now be twice the price but now they have 6" more range, and 2 more shots. in the center of these gaunts are 1 malecepter and 1 malethrope. Now they are -1 to hit and with the new malecepter strat all STR 4 shots are STR 3. This strat turns primaris shooting INTO GAURDSMAN SHOOTING. I also love using a detachment of behemoth along side these gaunts full of genestealers, broodlord, and the swarmlord. i know this is the tried and true genestealer slingshot but with the behemoth +1 to wound psychic power and you also give your genestealers toxin sacs. Now these genestealers and rip a knight to pieces in melee. average wounds being about 30. I build my lists around my troops and they put in good work and i highly recommend trying it out.

Take a Trygon with the Arachnacyte gland. Pop it up with 20 genestealers. Charge with trygon for 3D6+1 charge and overwatch protection. Then use Hive Instict to charge the genestealers with 3D6 when charging a unit another tyranid unit is engaged with. (Blood of Baal strats) Team that up with the swarmlord genestealer rush combo and a kronos exocrine/hive gaurd detachment (use rippers for troops and malanthrope/nerothrope hq) You might have a list. I do need more Exocrines and feel your pain. I envy your Zoanthropes. I have 8k tyranids and only 1 Zoanthrope :( As for top 3. Genestealers Exocrine Hive Gaurd

Rav's are only good for cheap jormungandr unburrow for cheap to alphastrike with other units. They can spread out easier to give you bigger/more flexible footprint for big attack units. (than a Trygon). I like 2x 9 Shooting+h2h warriors. with ravs unburrowing shooting and trying for assaults. If you run 9 Twarriors 3 Barbed, 9 warriors 3 venom, and 6 hiveguard you also have a flexibility of firepower for your single minded annihilation. >> you can double shoot Deathspitters+barbed 2x to kill out screens. you can 2x shoot (Deathspitters to kill med infantry and VC to kill say a damaged transport) or double shoot the hiveguard to kill big targets.

My top 3. must haves other. than the three Winters mentioned are: 3. Trigon Prime. Burrows, synapse for the rest of the forward or deep striking units, character that you can upgrade with a relic, I like Pathnigenesis for the free reroll to hit and wound when selected to shoot or fire overwatch and the extra 8 inches to the range of his gun. Usually I also give him the adaptive biology Dermic Symbiosis now has double wounds for his degrade chart and a 5+ inv. save. 2. Flyrant with twin Devourers with brain leach worms Dakka Dakka with fly and synapse. Reliable. and with Onslaught and Catalyst. I usually give him the Resonance Barb for the plus one to cast and to put the Smite out as well. and having a 3+/4++/5+++ save helps. and my #1 must have is 1. The Neurothrope. For the points with the 3+ invo save two psychic powers, buffing zoanthrope, healing them with psychic leach allowing them a free reroll for 1's. Plus a great cheap hideable warlord. The only change to Winter's lust I would make is when taking three Exocrines, give one the Adaptive Biology Synaptic Enhancement. This gives them hive mind and keeps them from falling to instinctive behavior.

I'm about to paint my first couple of 40K minis, but there's a question I haven't found an answer on yet. Does the paint scheme of my minis matter, in terms of which lists they can be used for? As in, can I paint Tyranids with a custom palette and still use them as Hive Fleet Krakken, Leviathan etc list?
@DePlatypus-Inator
@DePlatypus-Inator 4 года назад
You should be able to paint things however you'd like and declare whatever hive fleet you'd like. Don't take my words as 100% truth though since I just started playing. I know its fine if you do this at most game stores etc but idk about tournaments etc
@Bobamelius
@Bobamelius 4 года назад
If you paint them in the color scheme of a hive fleet that has actual rules (i.e. Winters' Nids are Kraken) then, per the rules, you have to use the rules for that hive fleet. However, if they are a custom scheme you just choose the hive fleet you want them to count as. Honestly, if you are just playing friendly games most people probably won't demand that you play the hive fleet they are painted as. Pretty sure that will only be a hard and fast rule in a tournament setting.

You missed the real number one tyranid unit. RIPPERS. Cheap as chips troops that can pop up wherever you need them. Hold an objective in your backline while you run forward, grab an objective in no man's land, or even deploy right up next to the opponent and charge something shooty like a leman Russ or a dakka Dreadnought and laugh as it has to fall back from RIPPERS and loses a whole turn of shooting.

Yes they are amazing in numbers! Advance all time, smite at 24", 2 psychics powers and d3+3 mortal wounds! And if you try and shoot them, each has a personal storm shield and 3 wounds. Add a malanthrope for a -1 to hit and if necessary a catalyst if u feel they will be shot. Add a neuronthrope and each model killed by the neuronthrope's smite can heal. Finnally, you can be filthy and choose what model of the 6 will be the one casting for line of sight and range purposes, preventing a very needed deny or lock down on a specific unit. 2 units devastate a lot of high powered enemys as they dish 6+2d3 mortals per turn. Bring single minded anihilation hiv3 guards and one exocrine all shrouded by a malanthrope and wraped in termagants under kronos... stack them in a bulding and make the enemy weep. Its like winter says, its filthy dirty. Thats why I run orks now, I lose more but at least its fun for both sides, and that's all that matter 🤣
