I really love genestealers, they are almost every time the once that carries my team to victory. Together with a broodlord and a swarmlord, wow! My list. 1. Broodlord. 2. Genestealers. 3. Swarmlord. 4. Tyranid warriors. 5. Hive tyrant.
This list is pretty good, I did try out a tyranr lord list that featured 1 hive tyrant and 12 tyrant guard w/ enhanced resistance made them super hard to kill
I ran a scythed heirodule just before tier 2, and used a swarmlord & onslaught to get a turn 1 charge off on some space marines. Actually held them up for 2 whole turns. If only I'd run leviathan...

I think genestealers are excellent when picked up in Kraken flavor with a swarmlord. That's a very substantial commitment therefore I believe broodlord to be a superior tyranid entry since a broodlord is always good whatever the picked hivefleet. Please understand I do not claim genestealers to be rubish but to get the most of them required some efforts ! More importantly, all the units you have listed but genestealers are amazing within a kronos hive fleet. Neurothrope are good symbiostorm caster. If you pick one as your warlord, you can discard the warlord trait to use adaptative physiology on one of your two exocrines ! Exocrines and hiveguards are both perfect targets for symbiostorm. Flying Hivetyrants are good enough to threat the ennemy backline and will thus get most of the attention, leaving our gunline in peace (kindish).
A really fun, fluffy list I’m thinking about is based around the idea of a starship troopers bug melee horde. 3 units of 30 hormagaunts and 6 carnifexes and 3 hive tyrants. I haven’t worked out the points but there should be enough left over for some back line firepower too. What do you experienced nid players think? Will it just get shovelled off?
My list: (I play mixed hive mind) 1. Nuerothrope 2. Hive Guard 3. Genestealers 4. Exocrine 5. Lictor I know most disagree with the lictor but I often run kronos vanguards instead of battalions and the lictor can hold objectives better than ripper swarms and you can get a consistent charge to tie up enemies and for 1cp can't be overwatched
I have been having a lot of luck using warriors instead of hive guard in my last few lists! I don't play super competitive but mostly against marines and a unit of 9 with 3 venom cannons is pretty good! I give them the adaptive physiology to ignore -1 and -2, and use the Strat to reduce damage from shooting by 1 when needed. The advantage I find is that the venom cannons do pretty much the same thing as the hive guard but the deathspitters are so good at weight of fire. Shooting twice is 36 heavy bolter shots and 6D3 venom cannon shots that all hit on 3s (and explode on 5s with the Kronos power and a prime nearby) The warriors are also decent in a fight up close and are synapse which is always helpful! What do you think?
Yup I like worriors and this is a solid build the dependence on a prime to make them effective is not great but I still think that have some great play. Thanks for sharing .
The main reason to go for hive guard instead is that they can hide behind terrain and do their job without being shot at and without needing a command point investment to survive, while Warriors need line of sight to their target which means the opponent can shoot them back.
With the announcement of 9th I am interested to see how the Tyranids fair. Would love carnifex to be back on this list. I would probably swap out the tyrant for rippers although in a Forces list, they get replaced with brood brothers!
The only one I dont agree entirely with is the Genestealer. It used to be but I dont think it's currently optimal. Not sure what I would put in that spot though either.
Someone who knows the game really well can win games with a single unit of stealers. If you watch the big names of tyranids/hive mind some of the plays they make with stealers is absolutely disgusting. A good gs sling player can be pretty good, average players will just lose most of their game’s unfortunately due to how punishing the Archetype can be.
Old Swarmy is great...but To mono Build for the list , he basically works in the classic Kraken rush list. The tyrant has much more versatility IMO. Thanks a lot for watching .
