seeing even just the games that hit 1.0 this year is unbelievable - like, there have been SO. MANY. FUCKING. BANGERS. in our genre this year ALONE. The gaming industry at large is bleeding at every seam, making several million dollar bloated projects that utterly bomb and lead to disappointment after disappointment for literally millions of people - and yet, our little corner of the world has been so fucking solid and healthy that in the first 17 minutes of an hour long video you've already named a half-dozen games that will be genre classics forever, and they came out like back to back to back, and all for under $30. Why is the rest of the industry not looking at this scene?
I agree. Its not about gate keeping its all about spreading the joy of boomshoots to everyone. And I also think of as "boomer shooters" as modern games that emulate 90s fps. Thats because the term wasnt really in use until it started being used to describe modern old school looking games. I find "90s fps" is a much more clear term to use for you know...shooter games with a 1st person pov from the 90s
You have some awsome taste in boomer shooters my man. Thanks a lot for helping to update my list of games to buy. That is money well spend. And I have to agree with Forgive me Father 2. Can't wait for the full release. I guess for me the boomer shooter I had the most fun with this year was Turbo Overkill. Absolutely nuts game.
@@ThommyofThenn I am blasting through the firs Forgive me father, but after ? Probably Hrot because I only finished the early access version, not the full one. ILLWILL and BLood west probably next. And I am also enjoying the amazing Halo masterchief collection on steam
I totally loved the live stream of the award show. Impressive job Zlim and thx for your massive effort to enlighten the community with fantastic entertainment and games ❤ And with all the awesome games you showed my personal favorite of 23 ist without a doubt a Trepang2 when it comes to fun and style. 🤗 Rock on bro and I'm exciting for this year awards 🤘
@@ZlimBratSki Thanks a lot Zlim for the kind words and I'm still glad to found you. 🤗 One of my favorite channels out there (best in gaming). I'm honored to enjoy the journey with you and the community. Wish you the best man 🙌
From your list big man, I go for HROT, Dread Templar, Boltgun, Zortch and of course the Quake 2 Remaster. Was a good year. Bring on the Wrath now! It's time. Also Incision and Graven would be great and perhaps Coven.
@TotalMobilizationOfLifeForce Maybe Boltgun, but Dread Templar is good shit. Combat is fast and responsive, unique weapon selection, good level design and in general just nice aesthetic. I personally prefer it to Prodeus.
classic, suit jacket with t shirt ❤ I just recently got back into the old school shooters ie Doom 2 amd Duke nukem.. they are so much better than I even remember.. the difficulty was def real lol.. I REALLY want to try brutal doom but I don't own a pc 😕
haha hell yeah! :D Ooo welcome to this little corner of the gaming world! I recently played Blood on stream, was the first time I played, god the oldies are so good, but yeah as you say the difficulty is real :)
Really surprised Trepang2 is so low on the list, that game was amazing, just a bit on the short side. Also thanks for including Blood West, one of my favorites of the year.
i got really disappointed by it, music top notch, first episode was good, the gameplay was off, weapons felt weak and run out of ammo fast, things got worse at second chapter and the third was a cop out, it was like the devs were tired of making the game and gave up, would have been much better as a slow mo shooter instead of trying to be like doom eternal with wall running and i dont like using the right mouse button with hold down mode, i always switch to toggle, cant do that there.
@@arkgaharandan5881 I understand your qualms with it; can't say I agree with them, but one thing you can do it adjust the "adrenaline" burn rate so that it almost never runs out and you can essentially play the whole game as a slow-mo shooter. Also, the weapons get more powerful as you progress. You can also scale up player damage to make them even more powerful if you wish. I also would have sworn there was an "aim toggle" option but I could be wrong.
This is a really impressive list, great job, feel free to ignore my nitpicking :) I like Blood West, I'm happy it's on the list but it's not a boomer shooter, you can't go guns blazing because you will immediately die :)
Thanks man! And your right, it really is indie FPS of the year list but the show itself when it was live streamed was simply named boomer of the year :)
@@ZlimBratSki it's still a great game and worth mentioning. And it's Polish and I am also Polish so I'm happy that Polish games are ranking high. Good look with the channel!
Bro i started hrot cause you and one other famous channel recommended it. The stupid looking motorbike was a highlight and of course the "horse." Gahaha very disturbing but incredible game. Hrot is to Quake as Slayers X is to crappy build engine games from south america. An almost weirdly accurate love letter to a hyper-specific, obscure aspect of gaming
@@ZlimBratSki Edit: just remembered i told you when I got it a few months ago. Had to finish Slayers X and Wizordum ☺I'm on E1 map "Vysehrad Castle," it's very brown. Like it is all one big sewer and i love it... I got the lightning gun earlier. Used it to battle the weird horse enemy but I found the hussite cannon was more effective against its fast attacks. This double barrel is f***ing AMAZING!! A bit more range than Soviet gun but still loses power if you fire on any enemy a few meters away. Nice upgrade in power without becoming your main weapon like in Blood or something. I am actually liking the dual pistol and it's my "sniper" weapon lol. Also loving the fact that I have to look some of these weird pickups I find. Earlier I found a little loaf of bread with a name i didn't recognise. I looked it up and learned this bread has a great history in central Europe and may have inspired the French adaptation "croissant." Thanks for covering this game/linking it on GOG. Before you covered it, I was interested but almost certainly wouldn't have bought it
@@ZlimBratSki dude holy horse. Playing RN and i just picked up a damage boost powerup and went to confront my enemies. There was one of the gasmask horses along with several of the teleporter soldiers. I blasted at them with smg but saw the horse charging me. Switched to the double barrel and blasted at the horse again. It freaking GIBBED both the horse and other enemy in one mighty shot! Also unlocked an achievement for it 😁👌
Ive played most of the released games in 2023 (like hrot, dread templar, trepang2, sprawl, calcium contract, etc.) and to me the winner is probably turbo overkill (it was finished in 2023, which after wrath is what i care about) and aftershock At least when excluding DOOM .wads using all my willpower to not give it to eviternity2.
@@ZlimBratSki When i give in to the mods, it's hard for the paid games to compete. The level design (+ being just an expanded version of a timeless game) just makes any comparison super one-sided.
I can't tell you how much I hate the term "boomer shooter" haha. Boomers didn't play games and later becoming boomers hated games and derided them. These games deserve a better name.
Boom goes the boomer stick - boomer shooters ;) Don't think of the generation if you hate it, but the only thing that connects the games with that is that "Games were better before" just like boomer say "everything used to be better"
The tide pod generation likes boomer shooters? Learn something new every day.. Some great games for '23, proud to have a few of them in the library and adding a couple more to the wishlist after watching this video.
They kept promising me things and not keeping their promise so they got no nomination from me, (and i wouldnt replace a single game here for it) and the community did not nominate it.
Its due to this being a live stream, that I turned into a video, I don't have equipment to put the script in front of the camera and it's impossible for me to remember all of this during a live stream. In all my video - videos I look in the camera when recording :)
