The "Jimmy" episode was the most accurate display of bullying including when the victim gets tired and decides to end it by bringing a gun and wanting to shoot his tormentor. That's why I loved Static Shock growing up because they weren't shy about series issues like bullying and disabilities.

Haunted is probably my favorite episode from Teen Titans because of how realistic the portrayal of PTSD is, and because of its twist ending

Every kids' shows are always dark. but I was watching Courage the cowardly dog, at least I'm brave enough to watch this old CN show.

Stepney Gets Lost is definitely peak for being a very dark episode of an engine nearly falling to his doom - especially since scrap is a graveyard for sentient machines. I remember being so terrified of this episode in childhood along w/ the other scary S5 episodes on Spills & Chills VHS, but w/ time I overcame my fear and is another standout episode of the show (once in a lifetime event that'll never happen again in later years).

Definitely glad to see the bullying episode from static shock appear on this list. It is always stuck out to me as one of the most important episodes of the series. There’s no way a cartoon episode like that could be remade today.

I really think the worst part of Failsafe comes in the next episode when they’re doing the therapy sessions. After initially storming out, Superboy reveals how he felt during the simulation; happy. With everyone dying around him, he finally got to know what being Superman feels like, so he was happy, and the guilt of that crushes him.

The Puppetmaster from ATLA is a masterpiece , scary and creep indeed , but the episode and the story are awesome

When I got older, the way they talked about how Charlotte and Drew weren't actually going to have a baby, the way it was acted and portrayed, my brain thought, wait were they just pregnant for awhile, didn't know and have a miscarriage? Because I've seen this on other dark cartoon lists, and yeah my brain kinda always thought thats what it was instead of just a wrong pregnancy test. Also, i'll admit the the no 1 choice is creepy but....its never super super dark or anything. Honestly I feel the episode with that kid, Keef, is way darker than you remember. They legit show his eyes getting ripped out and replaced with robotic eyes.

Bravestarr is 24? The episode where not only did a kid die from an OD, but they NEVER SHOWED THE EPISODE AGAIN?! And its near the bottom?

What about the Darkwing Duck episode "Time and Punishment"? Where Gosling Mallard accidently goes into a future where her father becomes the twisted vigilante Dark Warrior Duck and rules St. Canard with an iron fist?

Seriously, the whole Black Mercy thing, the fact that Superman is betrayed by his friends, the Brainiac-possessed Superman and that scream Lois makes/those black eyes she haves in the end is PURE nightmare fuel.

In one episode of ben 10 Omniverse everyone dies and ben has to recreate the universe as an exact copy. Everyone ben, has ever known is dead what's darker than that.

Hollow Mind from the Owl House and True Colors from Amphibia are really creepy episodes that completely shifted the tone of the shows

I would have included the episode Deadly Force from Disney’s Gargoyles. That was a pretty damn dark episode.

The episode of the powerpuff girls when they were,kidnapped by their obsessed fan use to creep me out as a kid .

While I know other shows and episodes (such as "Speed Demon" from PPG) were also dark, I'm glad to see a few new episodes/shows listed instead of the same ones each list. The one with Bunny, imo, is actually darker for a few reasons: One, the more realistic art style while showing her features (let's be real, I didn't expect a grossout style with this vs Spongebob where it's more commonly found), and two, the fact the episode literally ends with her death - to the point that the narrator is even crying when he says "the day was saved". Honestly, at least Speed Demon ended in a more "happy" note with no one dying and they instead decide to stay and protect the city rather than risking what they saw happening. I also remember a similar episode to the Static Shock one being in Gargoyles thanks to YT comments, where someone is shot and killed. Really kids, don't drink, don't do drugs, and don't play with guns (unless they're obviously toys). You'll get hurt - if not someone else - and it could get worse if you don't have supervision.

This forgot the one show that gave kids AND adults nightmares in multiple episodes. "The Amazing World of Gumball." Example: The Joy "The students have turned into literal joy zombies, yet the rainbow and creepy eyes don't help either. The Rival: Anais was only just a baby, but yet her creepy menacing face always gave us viewers the creeps, and she's even willing to kill HER OWN BROTHERS! The Fan: For kids, you might think Sarah just wants to be friends with Gumball and Darwin, but as you grow up to be teenagers, you realize that what she's doing is WAAAY creepier. The Disaster / Rerun: Just imagine losing your family and friends right in front of your face, and having it being done by your enemies. The Wicked: Mrs. Robinson is evil, plain and simple, but the thing that scared us the most, was the fact that she didn't even help Darwin when he was choking, and yet smiled at him and closed the door on him.

I'm surprised I haven't seen any mention in the comments how the TMNT 03 episode on this list is REALLY similar to the plot of The Last Ronin

Batman Beyond where Terry and Dana’s friend is forcibly put into a mental hospital is extremely dark. Season 2, episode 16 The Last Resort and it is a good commentary on mental illness. I’d even include the special Cartoon All Stars To The Rescue for the entire special. Also, there’s an episode of Pokemon where one of the Pokemon passes away from old age and it was an anniversary episode. It turns out ok in the end when that Pokémon’s friend sees him in the clouds and joins Ash and his crew but it definitely brings some tears. I know the host said no anime, but this episode was kind of dark. Holy smokes I forgot about the Over The Edge episode of The New Batman Superman Adventures. Good episode but very sad and I’m glad it was a dream. They went pretty far in the episode and it still shocks me. Also, it was confirmed by the showrunners and others involved in the Elephant Issues ep of Tiny Toon Adventures that the show was never banned truly. Nickelodeon showed it and it’s been included on the DVDs. Oh, and Apokolips…Now! from Superman: The Animated Series. Superman and the people of Earth right back against Darkseid but before he leaves to go back to his own planet, he’s told by Dan Turpin to get away basically. Darkseid smirks and unleashes his Omega Beams and destroys Turpin. He does it right in front of Superman who rampages and destroys Darkseid’s equipment he leaves behind before we see Turpin’s funeral and the dedication to Jack Kirby to end the episode. For a show that was a flagship show of Kids’ WB! and prided itself on being lighter than its Batman counterpart, this episode was incredibly dark. It was originally to end with Jonathan and Martha being the ones to die but the network said they’d have to be brought back somehow. So it was supposed to be even darker.

The episode "Code of Hero" from Beast Wars was pretty traumatic for me as a little kid in the 90s. Watching a fan-favourite character get brutally beaten and then die in his best frenemy's arms was a hard pill to swallow in a show where you were used to seeing the good guys always triumph.

Stepney gets Lost was defiantly a dark Thomas episode it took me years to watch that episode all the way through.

Growing Pains from The New Batman Adventures. Especially the last line Batman says in it. "Sometimes there are no Happy Endings..." I was devasted as or more than Robin at the end of that episode as a kid. Poor Annie...

In the final episode to Transformers Prime Beast Hunters, Megatron shoots Bumblebee with his laser cannon in front of Optimus Prime and the others.

I think all these are overshadowed by the amount of brutal deaths in the clone wars as well as the subject manner mostly about slavery and war crimes. Specifically in season one there was The lair grievous and trespassers

You know something that is interesting, after Hama told Katara that she is a bloodbender, the episode ends with the latter crying of how much it pains her. And yet, she decided to use it again on a fire nation soldier as revenge for the death of her mother. Which is kinda crazy yet also baffling that she wasn’t traumatized by that as she didn’t bloodbend Azula after Zuko got hit the lightning blast.

I’m an 80s baby and I have never heard of Bravestarr. More importantly, that episode should have been much higher on the list.
