What was the hardest thing for you at basic training, and if you haven’t shipped out yet, what do you think will be the hardest thing? 🤔

I got my paperwork done and go back Wednesday I did terrible on practice ASVAB got 14 but recruiter asked (when do you want to ship out?) I said ASAP and gave me paperwork and told me I qualified for the fat camp and dumbass camp so now I’m studying for Wednesday, but I think the (Weather) will be the hardest if I leave before march

My experience in BCT was Being stuck on red phase all the way until my class got to week 6, cause ppl kept snitching and going to sleep in a class section all the time. 😂 But all jokes aside, for anyone who’s going to bct, just put all the negative shit & snitching shit to the side. Because at the end of the day, your PLT or the whole damn company is gonna get fucked up. That’s just the way it is. Just be there at the right place, right time & right uniform and you’ll be straight solider.

At least with the eating time, actual basic isn't as terrible as reception. I think you might have had like ten minutes to eat in actual basic, although sometimes it felt a little bit longer like maybe fifteen minutes. In reception on the other hand, you only got five minutes to eat.

The hardest part of basic for me might be just believing in myself that I will get through it and remember I’m doing it for myself and a better future. I truly deserve it. And thanks to your channel it’s made understanding what the army is all about and especially your discord it’s answered a lot of questions and doubts I’ve may of had but I’m much more confident for Monday.

Ok i went to basic Feb 1982 and alot has changed since then obviously BUT alot has stayed the same. My advice is DON't go to basic without being in shape FIRST! I was a high school athlete and in great shape but on top of that i trained hard prior to basic and my entire time in the military i never fell out of PT in 6 years regular Army and 3 years National Guard. Also while in basic i developed a bad upper respiratory infection and i was scared shitless of being recycled even though i was coughing all night for a week or more and pissing off my platoon. My drill sgt made me go to sick call which i got some BS cough syrup and drops.My point is if you are in good shape physical training is hard at times but not as tough as my high school football training.Thank god in 1982 we didn't have cell phones or the internet in this way home sickness was gone quickly and we were all focused on the tasks at hand TO PASS BASIC TRAINING! For me weapons qualifying was scary for me at first i had problems zeroing my M-16 due to the fact you have to control your breathing and heartrate by relaxing when pulling the trigger.In the end i made expert 37/40 and i missed the last 2 out of being overly confidant which made me screw up. Final comment if you want to be a soldier you will be. Drill instructors are not there to make you give up they want to get the 110% we all have inside to make it. Millions of people passed basic why can't you?I have a hand full of Army buddies on facebook and all we chat about is those few years decades ago together and how we miss those times.I forgot to mention i have my Basic training platoon photo on the wall near me and i remember most in the photo even though we were together for a few months. In permanent party i was with some units for 2 years and i can't remember many of the guys names what does that tell you about the bond you develop in basic?

Getting physically fit did suck. but it came easy, with all the marching, PT and everything else along with a decent diet it was hard NOT to get in shaped. Went I went in a was a mess (1977) and phone time? what was that? lol Homesickness yep, but they put you with a bunch of folks that you have nothing in common with, everyone is in the same boat, you learn to make friends and is gets better For me the hardest was mental / emotional. I had lead a sheltered life before I joined, so there was the culture shock, and then getting with the program. Making the change in life was hard, but I did it. If I was able to do it, anyone can! and for me the boots were fine. it was the lack of sleep that sucked, but got used to that.

I was one of those people who lost about fifteen pounds in basic, felt good by the end. I have always been a mule and didn't mind the rucks (road marches) from a legs, back, or cardio standpoint, but the blisters? If I could go back and do anything different to prepare before starting it would be to find ways to toughen the bottoms of my feet and develop some callouses, because a few of those had me marching holding back tears and clenching my teeth through the final miles.

I was one of just two males who struggled the most in my company.. finally one of the drill Sergeants in my company literally was there with me and helped me aim the rifle. I'm serious. He said "here, aim for the dick" ( all I kept hearing up till then was "center mass" so I kept aiming for the chest, but that wasn't knocking the balloons down. But "aim for the dick" basically still center mass, but going lower, actually helped me knock enough down). I don't know if he was allowed to do that, but I'm glad he finally did. I finally got 24. Oh well. The other male and the , if I remember, something like four females left also eventually passed. I was so concerned when I kept repeatedly failing the weapons qual that I was going to get recycled and not graduate on time. Ive been in for six years now and I am still a horrible shooter. The most ive shot was 35, but those were paper targets. But when I do balloons I still "aim for the dick " and it still gets me just enough knock downs to qualify.

The Drills will also see this and may even tell your squad mates that everyone has to help each other. and if one of your guys doesn't understand it will be the squads job to help them understand. This method works really well.

I'm leaving for basic soon and I'm 37. I am really worried that my body might not be able to take it.

I don't know why you didn't look at that before you made that decision at your age. If anything at 37 years old you probably should have joined the Air Force instead of the Army. The Army is not only more physical, but the Army is more of a headgame as well since the Army treats its enlisted people more like children compared to the Air Force does (that's basically what a soldier is. A soldier has to be treated like a little kid by his superiors in order to be told what to do and be a body, the Air Force has to treat its people with more maturity because booksmarts and technical skills are valued more). You should have asked around before just jumping into the Army at your age. Hopefully for your sake, you chose to do national guard/reserves instead of active duty, and if you were stupid enough to go active duty Army, I hope you at least got into a MOS that is rarer and more likely to not be in the FORSCOM aspect of the Army.

I was 5’5 125lb ish and I loved basic. I was in great shape. What I really did that helped was for a month I ran 2 miles a day and it broke my knees in. So I was good

@honesto8457 I bought the book asvab for dummies from Bruns and noble and also a good recruiter that will help you stay focused. For me I think I just got nervous and went blank I'm really really hoping sometime next month when he sends me to take the real one I know what to expect so I won't be nervous

The hardest thing in basic will be getting punished for other people not shutting up in formation and them being the ones not being able to do 10 push-ups.

@@benitomussolini956311b here, injuries that will cause you to get recycled are very rare. In my company of 200 guys about 3-4 guys got recycled cause of injuries. If you get injured at all the Army will put you on a profile meaning you can’t do anything hard for like a week, and if you miss and big training event you could get recycled

Someone who signs up for 11b, especially 11b in peacetime, especially 11b in peacetime instead of enlisted instead of officer, probably has had a brain injury already that led them to making that stupid ass choice
@justahuglyahhboi9676
@justahuglyahhboi9676 5 месяцев назад
@@benitomussolini9563it depends on the injury to tell you the truth. If it was secondary injury like tearing your acl, you might be down for a week or two. But they say if you miss two or more events while in basic, you get recycled during that phase. so they just gonna send you over to the next company that’s a phase behind the previous company u we’re in

There were a few things hard for me. I was 19 and it was my first time away from home. So, there was home sickness the first few weeks. My feet hurt all the time and the road marches were brutal on them. After about a month, my feet toughened and didn’t hurt until that final road march. I struggled with pushups. I was in decent shape going in, but I just don’t naturally have good upper body strength. After a few weeks, my body just started to be able to do push-ups. I think being in decent shape allowed my body to adapt to those new demands pretty quickly. I was doing cardio and weights before I went in. There’s also the intimidation factor. The drill sergeants were initially a bit intimidating, but after a few weeks to a month, you start to find them funny and see through the act. Overall, it’s really all about being in decent physical condition and having a good attitude going in. Most people with those two things will adjust and do fine.

Pretty sure I’ll be ok. I moved out of state, so I’m used to being away from family. Also being in a leadership position at my job I don’t like seeing people fail so I can see myself making sure the people around me don’t get down or left behind. Physically, I could be better but I’ve always had a just fucking do it attitude 😅
