I'm Malaysian Malay woman...a Chinese aunty age around 79 years old told me to stop eating red meat, less seafood and eat more veges. Especially leafy veges( on top ground veges). She walks to the market at her age...
She's a wise woman. Although many people can live long lives on a meat diet, a fruit and vegetable diet with herbs, spices, nuts, seeds, and mushrooms, is ideal for optimum health. Cooked food can lead to problems down the road. Some foods can be soaked overnight like nuts and legumes to make them more nutritious.
My uncle in India lived over 100 and he ate lot of meat, fish, veg and whatever was given to him. But was very active. At the age of 92 he used to climb the trees to pluck fruits and was saying age is only numbers and nothing else.
I steam my broccoli and then pour over them roasted garlic in olive oil and sprinkle red pepper on them, wow delish!!! For the green beans, I also steam and then mix roasted garlic and almonds. For my Brussels sprouts, I only like to cut I half and salt & pepper, pour olive oil on them and bake at 375 degrees for 25 min. Wow that is one of my favorite veggies. Happy cooking!
Slow Cook a pot of chili with kidney beans, tomato, olive oil, oregano, carrot, celery, garlic, onion, paprika powder, red bell pepper, chili powder optional ….. mushrooms are great cooked with anything. I add it to bone broth too. Medicinal mushrooms - reishi, turkey tail, chaga, can be slow cooked in a crockpot for 8 hours to make. Mushroom water extract.
Well, I love tomatoes and used to eat them daily. Cherry tomatoes were my ‘drive by’ snack: whenever I came in the kitchen, I’d grab a few. But I have been suffering from osteo-arthosis in all my joints and.the pain was hindering my every day activities, especially in my hands. I searched hard online for natural relief and came up with some contradicting statements about tomatoes and joint pain and inflamtion. Some said tomatoes had no influence on that others said it was the first thing to strike from my diet. So I decided to do the test and stopped eating tomatoes for a month. Last day was yesterday. Now I know FOR SURE that tomatoes are BAD for my joints! Very bad. I have hardly any pain in my hands, the swelling is a lot less and I don’t have to take any painkillers anymore. All I can say is: eating no more tomatoes sure works for me!
I too experienced the same. After I came to know that nightshade vegetables contain lectins, especially tomatoes, I stopped eating them. I had arthritis in my hips and could hardly climb the stairs. After cutting those vegetables, I started noticing improvements in my movements. Six months after avoiding them, I could climb the stairs easily without any pain. So, it worked for me. Different bodies have different dispositions; what one works for one may not work for others.
Yes but you were eating them raw!? COOKING tomatoes alters the chemical composition and allows the licopine (sp) to be more easily digested by the body. Cooking of many vegetables have the same effect in which they become more easily absorbed and digested by the body.
100%. Wish these drs would give warnings as well as unfortunately there are those of us who just cant eat tomatoes, even fungus veg like mushrooms as delish as they are.
I eat all the veg you mentioned Doctor, I also eat sardines and avocado! I actually make myself a snack box that I keep in the fridge! I once had arthritis which has now gone due too me eating these vegetables along with Turmeric Cumin and black pepper - My snack box contents are as follows - sliced mushrooms (raw) spinach (chopped up) Avocado (chopped up) rocket (chopped up) tomato (chopped up) cucumber (chopped up) sardine's (chopped up) then I either add a tin of chopped tomato's or a carton of cottage cheese, sprinkle Cumin/black pepper and Turmeric and Garlic salt, red onions (chopped up) Yes it is held in a large container - So one needs to give the contents a good shake! I am not a veggie, but I like my veg! I hope viewers can make this snack box for themselves and help them n fighting inflammations and the diseases you have mentioned Doctor! I live in Scotland where it is cold mostly, yet I have not received a cold/flue for many years! I am 74 years old, a carer for my wife, I am active constantly every day and I try to walk to where I need too be! I have watched many of your video's, as I think you are so knowledgeable and a face one can trust! I also eat broccoli/sprouts and Kale, eggs! So viewing your video's tells me that I am eating the right foods! Never a take away in my house! Many thanks Doctor!
Eat chili everyday. I cook it all the time and I've had cancer. Have salad at every meal--have not been to a drive thru fastfood in 30 yrs (no car for 20, so easy), just walk.
I couldn't have heard something more common sense and what is good for you chili is the perfect stage for what you said something that should be enjoyed every other day with coarse ground beef very little else in seasoning is needed except for garlic powder and onion powder except for ground cardomin for the accent you have it going on TNX 73
@@CynthiaWord-iq7in two things the walking keeps you going and I lit up when I read your remark on the salad I do the same with kale spinach and broccoli mushrooms tomatoes Paul Newman has a dressing that is fantastic for salads and even marinade meat like steak a 2 inch cut with a light coating of Paul Newman's Basil and lemon vinaigrette add a frosting of garlic and onion powder with Kinders prime steak that has black garlic and truffle just a light frosting and bake it at 250 about 40 minutes check the temperature at 120 shut the heat off and remove it from the oven and cover it up it will finish in 10-15 minutes and should be around medium rare the best way for flavor that and a salad of what I outlined and enjoy Paul Newman's dressing is fantastic for ribs if on a grill gas or charcoal and use the dressing to baste the ribs with a light frosting of Kinders prime steak
I thought I knew everything he was going to say and then he threw out green beans! So glad I'm listening to your podcast thank you and thank you Dr Li!🎉
I love drizzling cut up tomatoes with olive oil, garlic and sea salt, then roasting it in the oven. So great on spaghetti squash with some fresh basil. I don’t even miss pasta anymore.
I feel blessed because l love fruits and vegetables. I have gardens so l eat fresh raw food available year round. Dont eat raw mushrooms but do eat them often. Good w vegetables, meat and carbs. Now im getting hungry!
Besides beans, been eating these veggies regularly. Only chickpeas recently. Eat Org Cherry tomatoes on my salad & thrown into my sautés, with garlic & olive oil
Thank you for this informative podcast that explains the what, why and how of these important vegys and fruits. Tomatoes, mushrooms, green vegetables, and the Mediterranean lifestyle!
Many times, I found myself at the crossroads with other family members, who strongly claim a strict Ketogenic diet and ketosis are the best options to starve cancer cells. I argue these God-given Vegetables contain potent cancer fighting phytochemicals and the prebiotic fibers to strengthen our gut and our immune system. Probably eliminating the need force the body to be Ketosis, etc. If Dr Li... or anyone could answer me on this seemingly conflictive dilemma
Love tomatoes, I don't eat mushrooms, yuk (I read it damages the liver), love garlic, onions and peppers. Like green beans, broccoli is good! Love kale, brussel sprouts and bok choy. 😊
Excellent video giving very important information about the nutrients and their benefits Thank u doctor u r wonderful Can u plz do a video on foods for autoimmune diseases especially RA thank you Doctor
Thanks for this. The problem with green beans and greens like kale, though, is that the non-organic ones often pop up on the Dirty Dozen list (i.e. they're heavily contaminated with pesticide that's difficult if not impossible to wash off) and it's sometimes hard to find organic ones.
Thank you so much Dr Li, I really really enjoyed watching and listening to you too. Very informative and helpful too. I’ve subscribed and given you a thumbs up too
I enjoy tomatoes raw. Or cutting into quarters, drizzle olive oil & salt, into the air fryer to roast. Sautéed mushrooms in olive oil & garlic. Fresh green beans steamed & sautéed with olive oil and lots of garlic. Broccoli, & Sautéed in olive oil & garlic. I like black beans, best to soak overnight. Serve with orange slices and sautéed collard greens in olive oil & garlic. Place one leaves on top of each other, roll the collard greens like a cigar & cut very thin, than sautéed, but don’t over cook. No more then five minutes on medium heat. Cook Lentils, in chicken or vegetable broth & water. Add a little diced carrots, bay leaf, onions, garlic.
I have very prominent veins in my hands I use a lot of mushrooms like lion's mane and 14 mush mix. Can this grow more veins and make them more prominent? I've noticed them up my arms now and my collagen is decreasing and skin is thinning and starting to get crepey. I probably use two teaspoons of mushroom powder a day and I also eat baby Bella mushroom soup and use them in my cooking should I decrease mushrooms? Why don't you recommend the medicinal mushrooms?
You really shouldn't be re editing his work and putting it up with such a bogus title. He's a real science guy and just wouldn't make that title claim. Go to his channel, it's all there.
Spinach is also high in oxalates. A half cup contains 755 miligrams. Oxalates bind to the minerals within the gut reducing their absorption. Permethrin Total - a carcinogen, hormone disruptor and honey bee toxin - is found on 52.5% of spinach.
Spinach has a very high oxalate content. If you're a kidney/urinary bladder stone former......it is on the no no list for stone formers. Replace with Kale.......
Tomatoes, potato, eggplant may aggravate joint inflammation pain. Doctors are not taught how to cook in medical school. They usually do not know or recommend traditional culinary herbs and spices that are added to cooking to reduce inflammatory damage. Many traditional recipes that cooks, not doctors, know contain these cooling herbs and spices such as cumin, coriander, fennel, turmeric, mint, dill, tarragon, oregano and others. Ask your Gramma how she cooks her spaghetti sauce. And serve inflammatory or gout producing foods with greens to help balance the effects.
This is true for some people, but not everyone. Certain kinds of arthritis are made worse by the lectins in tomatoes, but some of us don't have any problem with it.
You have all been lied too. Vegetables, fruit, grains and seed oils will lead to disease. Eggs, fatty beef, heart, kidney, lamb, sardines, mackerel and butter will improve your health substantially.
I am from the mid east and we eat a lot of beans. We always sprinkle somac on our red meat and bean dishes. Turns out it lowers the uric acid that can result from eating red meat and beans.
You should be aware also that some of these vegetables lower blood pressure . And I already have low blood pressure. Tomatoes and especially Garlic lower blood pressure..
Lectins and soluble oxalates and pesticides are important considerations for veggies. Seed oil must be avoided. Organic food is required but even that is insufficient. Fermented foods and probiotics and prebiotic fiber are also needed.
Green Bean ends ■ I now do not trim off but eat; a Farmer Market Manager instructed me a decade ago that the nutrients at the end/s are valuable and perhaps accelerated. M
I think Dr Li meant to trim off just the stem end, but he wasn’t clear on that. I like the look of the other end and thanks for the Farmers information. 🍅🥦🥬
@@bethnapoli2066 Italian Lebanese gentleman who has excellent culinary skills in feeding the masses; he was the manager of a farmer's market; he is the one that informed me to stop cutting off the ends!! I picked a hand few today from my suburban gardens and eatting the ends contributes to more nutrients. I believe I can eat the plant leaves, but I am not in a famine at this moment. There are some plant life that are famine food sources, like Gooseneck a perennial flower that blooms early summer with white draping flowerhead. ■ M.
For managing CLL, focus on a diet rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory foods. Include leafy greens, berries, turmeric, garlic, and omega-3-rich foods like salmon or walnuts. Avoid processed foods and added sugars. Regular exercise, such as walking or yoga, can help boost immunity and reduce fatigue. Consult with your doctor before making major dietary or exercise changes.
Question about tomatoes. Is it true that they have lectins that are bad for arthritis? Another doctor has said the skin and seeds are to be avoided along with other nightshade vegetables. 😮
There’s some debate about tomatoes and other nightshades (like peppers, eggplants, and potatoes) in relation to arthritis due to their lectin content. Lectins are proteins that can cause inflammation in sensitive individuals. However, research is mixed. While some people with arthritis find relief by avoiding these foods, others have no issues. If you notice symptoms after eating tomatoes, consider removing the skins and seeds or eliminating them from your diet to see if it helps. Always consult your doctor before making significant dietary changes.

Minestrone! with broccoli and chopped cabbage and cannelini and chopped spinach in the mix. The food of the poor in the Med and wonderful!. The people of beans and greens.
If mushrooms and beans cause inflammation, replace mushrooms with zucchini, eggplant, or tofu, and beans with lentils, quinoa, or sweet potatoes. These alternatives provide similar nutrients and are generally easier to digest. Opt for low-FODMAP foods, cooked vegetables, and smaller, frequent meals to reduce digestive stress and inflammation. Consult a dietitian for personalized guidance.
Avoiding mushrooms after cancer isn't supported by science. In fact, mushrooms like shiitake and reishi have potential anti-cancer properties due to compounds like beta-glucans that support the immune system. They may even slow tumor growth and enhance treatments. However, consult with a healthcare provider to ensure they're safe for your specific condition and treatment plan.
Tomatoes contain lectins, which some believe may aggravate arthritis. However, they are also rich in anti-inflammatory compounds like lycopene. Cooking reduces lectin content, potentially allowing you to enjoy their benefits safely. If tomatoes worsen your symptoms, consider limiting them, but if tolerated, their nutritional value might outweigh the concerns. Consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice.

For someone with Type 1 diabetes and thyroid issues, focus on a balanced diet rich in non-starchy vegetables, lean proteins, healthy fats, and whole grains. Include iodine, selenium, zinc, and vitamin D for thyroid support. Limit refined sugars, processed foods, and excess soy. Monitor blood sugar and thyroid levels regularly, and consult healthcare professionals for personalized guidance.
This will be also great if all of our food hasn’t been genetically modified for decades and stripped of cancer fighting properties. Need an example? Grape seeds are cancer fighters. What did we do? Genetically modified grapes, so there seedless
What about lectins in beans - a nightshade vegetable? According to Dr. Gundry, it should be avoided. Different doctors have different prescriptions for medicines or vegetables. Consumers are confused by these divergent opinions. The best bet is to try and see what is good for YOUR body.
@@spade5487 In case people don't know how to do this, plunge whole tomatoes into boiling water for a minute, then drain, and cool under cold running water. Make a small nick in the skin of each tomato, and it will be easy to remove the skin. Cut them open and dig out the seeds with your finger or a small spoon. I like to do this in a sieve over a bowl so that the seeds stay in the sieve and the gelatinous juice can be saved.
First - cut out sugars/ high fructose corn syrup,/processed foods which Feed cancer. Second: eat foods which have properties to cause apoptosis in cancer cells, cruciferous veggies. At LEAST 10 different veggies per day!!! Plus everything he says!!!!
