While I appreciate that there's more focus on tumbling now, I think we can sacrifice the 4th pass for better dance/artistry when most everyone is just doing a double back tuck/pike anyway
@@honeyfromthebee I agree plus that would make it easier on all gymnasts. Ones who can't do super powerful tumbling don't have to try to squeeze in a fourth pass to help boost their score, and ones that mainly focus on hard tumbling can have enough energy to add in more turns, choreo, or leaps without being exhausted
@@murasakino101 Agreed. I see a lot of gymnasts doing a double tuck (for example) at the end of their routine but with the deductions for leg separation, flexed feet, landings, etc. factored in, it's just not usually worth their energy. Judging has gotten really strict, but is often more forgiving of dance elements which also require less time and energy to perform. I would rather see a simple double turn, which is easy to execute without deductions (B skill) than an poorly executed double tuck (D skill with almost certain deductions) as a final pass. And, the gymnast would likely get more out of it! It boggles my mind that it's not more common
@@honeyfromthebee I agree as well! I see a lot of double pikes too and they also have many deductions at times. I would love to see more easier turns as well since most gymnasts would rather struggle doing a wolf turn for the difficulty value than a double turn that could be executed a bit easier. Idk why it's not more common either. I've seen too many gymnasts either fall on beam/floor on wolf turns or get heavily deducted for them and it's not worth it. Judging has gotten more strict like you said and they took away back-to-back wolf turns so maybe we'll see more variety this year if they have meets. I thought there'd be a winter cup but I haven't heard anything yet
Yes, during the 93-96 quad. But no one front tumbles like Lilia. She builds up speed and I’ve never really seen another woman come close to front “tumbling” the way that she did. 3 and 4 front tumbling skills in a row. Almost unheard of. Usually people do 1 or 2 consecutively, but not 3 and 4.
In that code she needed to do three skills as she was required to do two tumbling passes and a tumbling pass was defined as three skills then. And the fly spring was credited as a B in that code and combined with a front full or higher she got 0.2 connection bonus.
Yes. Also, she is apparently the mother of twerking. Although Lilias twerking was done very modestly, just an elegant show of muscle control, a novelty. Not any cheap sexy show off alike later, less gifted followers, do.
I’m agree with you selections:Lilia,Boriana,Svetlana and Camelia were incredible gymnastics and their routines captivate the people’s attention for their elegance and well executed routines.
You know what I find almost as great as the athletic skills of these ladies is their concentration levels. The camera an tv give the impression that they are the center of attention and all eyes are on solely on them. But that couldn't be further from the truth. There is so much activity going on around them in the arena with crowd movements, other teams and athletes competing on other aperatices. Different music playing in other sections. It's amazing to me at how focused they are. Incredible really.
Any gymnast will tell you it's actually more nerve wracking to have all the attention focused on you. For instance, no one wants to be the last performer on beam or floor when all the other events have finished their rotation and are just sitting around waiting. These girls are used to training in a noisy gym with lots of activity going on, multiple classes with kids of all levels, all practicing at the same time. They're used to floor music playing while they're on bars. It's much more scary to have the gym be silent while you're performing, knowing everyone's watching you.
Podkopayeva’s Olympic routine was much more creative. No one to that point could have pulled off the dance, let alone all of those front tumbling passes. Any routine from the 1989 Soviet World team could have been here. They were all different and they were phenomenal. And what about Oksana Omelianchik? That birdie routine started the whole double pass craze.
Boginskaya yeh it to avente guard routine not many international judges liked. But they gave her a 10 for it in this competition her tumbling was excellent anyway. But her ending pose was like take that to judges she served it to them on a platter lol. VOINEA i think pretty much brought break dancing to Womens floor by her movements and the worm she did yeh absolute control of her body and choice of music,
Dr. Mario! I liked Strawberry Shortcake's the best, she looked like she was really enjoying herself and the music was good. Can I see something on the uneven bars please?
I prefer these types of routines to today’s more athletic performances with minimal artistic or dance elements. The Russians and Romanians had great choreography in the 80s and 90s.
Oh, and back when artistic gymnastics had ART in it. Not suggesting they ditch the emphasis on skills and codes / points but I would like to see a new event added so that there is- dance in floor routines, like back when there were compulsaries...gymnasys could choose even - floor A, focus on skills, Floor B, focus on dance, and artistry. Make it a separate event
This Lilia's routine and her 96 Olympic final one both are basically the same, but I think her team is smart change this music to the one used in Olympics, which help makes it more coherent and cohesive, and it became one of the best floor routine in women's gymnastic!!
Kinda wish this could have been a 'top 5,' and Milo's '92 perfect 10 Olympic routine would have been one of these; I had never seen a routine like that before. That was phenomenal!
Yes, the two basically the same and her team is smart to change the music and the dance in between, the music they've used in Olympic makes her floor routine became one of the best and a classic in women's gymnastic!!!
The more of your videos I watch, the more I'm starting to wonder if you're like my long lost little sister!😂😂😂😂 we seem to have tons of the same faves and we seem to appreciate similar attributes! Thank you for the hard work you put into these. I love the video game vibes💖💖
@@amplitood5731 *facepalm* see, that's what I get for assuming. I apologize darlin.😭 I'm an old school fan- a best of Shannon Miller (my all time fave) would be awesome. Here's an idea I've rarely seen people do: comparison videos of a gymnast's time in elite vs NCAA. But of course, make what YOU want to. I'm gonna support it regardless💖
A tumbling ballerina what she programmed to do i mean that front tumbling amazing. But some of the dance moves sort of weird uncomfy but well it was all refined by 1996 Olympics.
I cannot stop thinking about how tiny and thin these gymnasts are, and I'm so happy the aesthetic trend changed, and bodies like Aly Raisman and Shawn Johnson are now fully accepted, and even expected by the judges and general public now. It amazes me these old gymnasts could pull off these gymnastics.
Making comments in the 80s like “being almost 5’4” which is giant for a gymnast is an ignorant thing to say. And deterred kids and parents from signing up for gymnastics. Any height can participate in the sport.
You have to choose, and these exercises are very good, especially, for me, the ones of Boginskaya and Voinea, but also could be added other, Shevchenko, Shushunova, Izbasa and Biles, perhaps, it,s only my opinión, I,m only a spectator
From the 80’s, I would definitely add Olga Strazheva ... but Biles no way. She has fantastic acrobatics but the artistry is not there ... and not only to her fault, the current code of points seems not to request it, nor actually seriously penalize its absence.
There is nothing dixieland about Biles' for. Her choreo is bland and except for two tricks she does the same tumbling passes everyone else does. Definitely not unique
Pods routine was horrible in that she does nothing but pose, prance, and do a double handstand pirouette for 25 secs. If she did not do that first pass no one would care about her. She is so overrated IMO.
