The "Building a Brand" series was amazing. I love to see the full process from the first speech with your client, the first sketches and on the end the final brand. Design is for me no profession, it is a ivocation. I am a self-taught Designer with no classic education in school or agencys, but creative addicted since my childhood. All that to see puts a big smile on my face and only can say: Well done and keep up the good work! thanks for sharing the full process with us and best regards over the big, deep, blue pond from germany. Great video, Futur! I really liked the edit here with the sound effects and cuts. Made it pretty fun to watch. To those who are so turned off by this being an ad, get over it! Things get advertised. It's likely that the clothes you're wearing, screen you're viewing this comment on, floor you're standing on, or chair your sitting in was once advertised. Advertising is a way to connect sellers to buyers and you wouldn't be able to discover great products easily without it. The Futur puts out a lot of great free content and it takes partnerships like this to make it happen.

Use CSS instead of symbols for things like the column. It eliminates the step of having to unlink it from the symbol and the possibility of forgetting to do so. It also insures that the design stays cohesive across the website. What I like to do before designing a website is create a css page. Basically I design all the elements and apply custom css tags so when building I just have to add the element, apply the css and then make minor adjustments if needed.
@mrbenburns
@mrbenburns 4 года назад
@@14torre1 Oh for sure! All the CSS was there - classes are defined etc. Using the symbols saves the headache of... dragging div, adding class, dragging div, adding class, dragging text, adding class... etc

I'm a web developer-come-designer, and I just wanna reiterate that Webflow is amazing. It is by far my favourite "codeless" website platform to date, and it's a huge breath of fresh air after coming from Wordpress, where sites are very often a Frankenstein's monster of various plugins supported by a dev community that tends to employ rather poor code practices

@@mrbenburns haha thanks :D I was already dreading the moment when I hand the admin dashboard to clients who still believe they could "delete the internet" (I'm serious). Looked super smooth in 'Building a brand' when you pushed the laptop to Mr. Hamilton. This particular part helped me make up my mind about how to deal with technophobes and which WCMS to use. I guess I'll quit all the Wordpress/Joomla/Typo3/Concrete5 whatsoever-dev-documents-binging once I properly learned webflow. Quite the relief to be honest. :) Thank you for doing this series.

@Daniel Rosheuvel This is the part that pisses me off. The web has gotten so complicated, designers just can't keep up. We're too busy doing mockups, illustrating and editing and still expected to be programmers in our execution. I just can't keep up! It used to be simple CSS and now it's Sass, React, Javascript, Angular, Vue, Swift or Java. I just.... I'm just going to jump off a bridge.

First of all, the content of this video is dope! Thank you! I'll come back to it later. Second, can't find the words to express my joy and excitement... and gratitude. Hearing about Webflow on the Futur and seeing Ben Burns use Webflow! It's a happy day for me. Why? For many reasons. Here's my story: I had just started using Webflow when I "found" Chris Do and his awesome content a few years ago. Chris and his content gave me confidence as a designer. I got clients, grew as a web designer, and eventually got hired by Webflow. I remember watching Chris and Ben talk about the process of designing web pages. And I used to wish they'd use Webflow to bring it to life themselves instead of handing it to developers. So, this is a dream-come-true moment for me. 😅 Back to this video. As the educator at Webflow, I'm overjoyed by the content of this video! You gave great Webflow tips and tricks Mr. Ben Burns. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Grid, Grid Areas, and the Multi-image Field we launched today. As always, hats off to the entire Futur team. Matthew Encina, you inspire me every day. Ben Burns, can't wait to see the #MadeInWebflow Futur website. Chris Do, the Capricorn who made this Capricorn believe in herself, thank you for everything! You guys keep inspiring me every single day. Can't wait to see your Webflow sites. Do share a link to your Webflow profile so I can follow ya'll 😉 . Happy designing! ❤️

Hey Ben, If you are interested, here is my journey with you in a nutshell: - I intended to watch 1 episode of the Hamilton Brewery series to get some insights. I ended up binge-watching the series twice! - I started to look for more videos including you and ended up finding you on as many platforms as possible and liking, following, subscribing to each one! I've been at it for a long time to research my possibilities to financial freedom, being my own employer, ... probably for too long even. Even though research will always be a part of my journey (never a master, always a student), here is what I started to understand watching you, hearing what you had to say, and checking your insta-posts: 1. I was fooling myself into believing I was not yet fully prepared to start acting so I had to continue my research. 2. I can never be fully prepared, but mistakes are part of the learning curve. 3. I was losing precious time not starting up. 4. I had nothing to lose starting to act upon my dream/ambition. From all the people that inspire and motivate me, you got me to that crucial step of action. When I think of your insta-post where you are telling about the day you handed in your resignation as a narcotics agent, I think you'll understand my appreciation for you in the following: Mr Ben Burns, my name is Nordin, I am 36 years young and today I decided to act upon redesigning my life and realize my dream. Thank you!!

Webflow rocks!! I've been using it since 2015 and is a game changer. Usign symbols as a layout tip is an awesome idea @mrbenburns you're a genius, I'll have to give it a try with some of my current clients websites.

I'm excited for this. When I started with webflow, I was surprised to see that there were very few tutorials and that you actually had to know a lot of web design principle. It was simultaneously too hands off for my dev friends to teach me, and too hands on to figure out myself.

No, it's not. Webflow Cons eCommerce functionality is still in it infancy. Needs a lot of features to compete with plugins like WooCommerce. Template library is small. Only about 200 templates and some of them are pretty old. If you want to work with another designer, you'll have to make sure they're familiar with Webflow. Hosting outside of Webflow negates some of the great features like fast publishing.

@@mrbenburns It's given a freelance designer, like me - The power to be efficient on the web when it comes to prototyping & designing. Think people need to remember this is an amazing DESIGN tool, I now take my wireframes straight to webflow to add animations and interactions in appose to using prototyping features within XD for example.

@@SharonDeCaro Hey Sharon, appreciate your thoughts on the cons of Webflow, maybe you could share that with the Webflow team? a) Webflow is constantly working every day to empower designers in different ways, they are extremely responsive to feedback, I am sure that the e-commerce feature (which is essentially still new) will be improved. b) Webflow attracts us designers because it is focused on custom-made design, I wouldn't say their template library has been a focus, but hey, the more designers that use it, the larger the library will become. c) If an agency/freelancer was to begin to slowly convert by testing out Webflow on web projects for clients, like the Hamilton Family Brewery, Webflow University offers completely free tuition about the tool, and if a 23 year old junior like myself can learn it, I'm sure any industry professional can too.

I sign up for web flow due to it's free. now that I have seen it in use. I will play around with it. I was using Divi and WordPress. I wasn't sure how to start but your vid shows the benefits to using it.

I'm so glad someone designed web flow. I had the idea to create something like web flow for people like me who have limited coding experience but hate template web design websites. I'm glad someone beat me to it because I probably would've tried to make it all by myself and lose my mind in the process.
