to be fair, music in the 50s was also heavily commercialized. very similar to now, bands/acts back then were told which songs to sing and these would be packaged together to create album and many times these songs were not written by the band themselves although i do agree, i'd rather the music of the 50s60s than what is played now

i love these songs. songs to sing to, dance to, and just cherish forever. i am not old enough to remember the times they were in because i was not born yet. but mom loved the music and had the records that i played and grew to love.

I'm 17, and when I was a kid, my family didn't have cable, so we only had two channels that I got off my little rabbit ears. I liked to stay up late at night, and the only thing that would be on at that time of night were informercials for household products, and music collections.For about an hour each night I would hear snipits of all these wonderful songs, and now I've finally found my way back to them. Thank you so much for uploading all of these!

I grew up on Oldies music... it takes a lot for me to try to convince other members of my generation that this is a set genre of music, not a way to describe all old music. That the genre of "oldies" doesn't change because more time has passed. And this is just a great selection of some of my favorite songs from my childhood and a great way to show them "this is oldies music." Thank you.

I was a teenager in late 50s and grew up in England thru the 60s, 70s,& 80s and so I was in the middle of the R&R revolution that marked a watershed and the wellspring of our music today. You did a good job capturing some of the flavour of that era but honestly, I had to fast forward to #21 before I found some of the good stuff. I would have liked to hear some more of the Stones, Beatles, Hollies, Everly Bros, Chuck Berry. But I guess it's tough to capture ALL the good ones in 40. Thanks!

I grew up on oldies too.. moved to rock, rap, metal, you name it.. but I still cruise around bumpin oldies on 2000 watts. And I'm 21:) I love the funny looks.. I live in phoenix, az.. if that explains anything..

Im 12 and i love all of these songs so much...but it isnt surprising a 12 year old loves these songs. There is a whole fandom for all the generations on instagram...except this crappy generation. I just wish i could live in the 50s and 80s for just one day. That would be great.

Sure it is we all have our fav kinds of music variety is the spice of life especially in music. I wanted to be a singer or dancer when I was 6 years old but didn't get the opportunity to do so even tho I did my share of ball room dancing and use to sing Karaoke in a night club on the beach in CA it was fun I am a senior and I will always love that era of music even dancing. you go girl have fun while you can,

Nice list of top 40 songs.Elvis Can't help falling in love is a great choice for #1. While everyone may have their preferences this list covers most of the truely great songs of the 1950's and 60's. PS: Ughh, to all the youngsters here, can you just listen to the music? Yes, you're young and loving oldies, so you probably have good tastes, but who cares how old you are?
