Great channel! Not enough people doing used car reviews, and none as thoroughly as this. The market in South Africa is dominated by Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger, with Isuzu also taken seriously as a 4x4. I recently stumbled across (and bought) a 2020 demo Fiat Fullback 2.4DiD DC 4x4 auto. Low kms, factory service plan and warranty. It's an MQ Triton with a Fiat badge on it, which meant I saved myself a packet on the used price. It also means that I've only seen one other like mine in two months, as opposed to 20 Hiluxes between here and the shops. By way of comparison, an equivalent Hilux is half again as much to buy. Lighter than the Ford and Toyota, fitted with a transmission oil cooler which is rare and a huge benefit for long distances (especially on sand), and the engine is wonderfully responsive compared to any other turbodiesel I've driven. The Triton is way underrated here, and the Fullback is basically unknown, but I'm very happy with my purchase. Keep up the good work!
G'day, My wife wants her STX 550 back. The Navara needs a snorkel to keep dust out of the engine (Long story). They also need a "work around" for low range up shifting, there is an easy mod to do to improve (not fix) low range shifting issues.
@redriven oi! I've gotten through all your content and we are in lockdown. How on earth can I expect you to make more? Maybe a podcast from the boot of a car? The best car review channel on RU-vid
Mate, thanks so much. We're doing our best to keep pumping out the two videos per week and a podcast is in the works. Hopefully one day this thing will actually start paying us so we can give up our "real" jobs and create more on ReDriven so we can enable your addiction. - AK
Goodluck getting a 130 for under 30k now . Since Landrover. Refused to put airbags in the defender and stopped the production of the real defenders the price had headed steadily north , I sold my 2001 130 after rolling it on a trailer with out a straight pannel on it for $17 k and the reason it was on a trailer was because the second td5 in it was stuffed , so basically $17k for a rollover 130 with a stuffed motor .
Some good info about hilux but injector seats at 45k is a big risk of contamination, check oil pickup from 150k on and replace seats and injectors about 200k or 10 years ,2015 1kd last of the best
D40 Navara but no DMax? Also would love you guys to do a review on the RG Colorado; are they a cheat code to avoid the Hilux & Ranger tax especially since Holden is gone, or are they just crap?
I went the ldv 2020 luxe mega tub 2.8 diesel for 28k. Bigger than all of the picks. In saying that was looking at a 2009 discovery 3 range rover. For 10k
Toyota Hilux Dual Cab Diesel (1989-1997) this version of the Hilux is the indestructible one that runs forever, it’s the best for under 30 grand in Australia. I don’t know about anywhere else probably still under 30 though because not many people buy them anymore, a lot of people buy them here 🇦🇺 but Europe hell no
Hey just came across your channel and wanted to say it’s fantastic. I’m in the market for a second hand small SUV and the Subaru XV review was a huge help. Hope to see more soon
Charles thank you so so much. Honestly, its comments like yours that inspire us to keep working hard to make the best content we can. We'll be hammering out new content every week for the next 25 to 35 years mate, no stress there.
Well. If you go for the land Rover just make sure that you've got an equal amount of money to the purchase price squirrelled away to keep the bloody thing going. If you go for either of the five cylinder models then keep your roadside assistance and towing up to scratch...
So second place went to a car with an engine that would fuse together unless treated like a baby every few thousand kms. Triton with the 3.2 will see you through
Thank you for that! I know that the Ford Ranger has problems with the EGR cooler but I've also heard that they have transmission problems, could you clarify that for me please?
The hilux you have going up a sand dune is not a turbo D4 diesel but a 4ltr supercharger V6 with twin locker. Please your your shit right. You can see this ute on 4x4 WA site
Neil we just needed a generic action shot of a HiLux heading up a sand dune. With observation abilities like yours, you should be a professional editor or work for ASIO, the chances of anyone else spotting this level of detail is slim to none. - AK
@@ReDriven the tray is so I can put a camper on it. Looking at suspension upgrade and whatever else it might call for. Finding the utes you recommend is currently turning out to be the tough but at the moment
@@Mr_Darkcyde Where are you based mate? I'll chat to Jim (our mechanic) for you to see what he recommends. We're doing Navara, Isuzu, Colorado and Amarok videos soon too so hopefully that helps.
@@ReDriven Central QLD. Seems to be more used Amaroks and Colorados around than anything else, not sure what that says about them. Was hoping to follow your advice and lean towards the 2015/2016 Ranger
For older cars it's a great idea. The longer durations are a modern thing achieved through engine tolerances (correct me if I'm taking smack). I used to change my 89 Carolla ever 5000 and filter every 10000 as advised by a mechanic (did it myself). Not so hard it expensive if you do it yourself. But yep painful of you were to have to book it in and pay for it.
@@warrencramer4516 I'd hazard a guess that the cost/benifit ratio goes out the window at some point. You don't change the oil every time you fill up. Mining/trucking companies would be the people to ask about preventative maintenance vs wasting time and money. Cars very rarely fail because of poor oil condition is all I'm saying.
I love this channel and am in general agreement with your views most of the time, but to put the navara in here and no dmax/colorado, and then have the piece of shit ranger as number 1.. what have you been taking ?
My research so far: Dog and Lemon "Rangers are literally hot garbage, don't buy one and if you do, you deserve all you get" ReDrive "Rangers are our number 1 used ute" Me \_('~')_/
Hey there! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Any reason why you praise the D Max? If there’s a reason you think people should be looking at it, please let us all know!
@@ReDriven i find it very reliable and trustworthy when it comes to heavy loading and towing. It has never given up on me, just keeps on going like a champ . Idk why is it so underrated when being so damn good. Instead we have this leaky injectors in this list of top 4x4 dual cabs That doesn't even exist in my country.
@ReDriven The Dmax has a more reliable engine and drivetrain than anything else mentioned. A Colorado has great power that is not far off an Amarok V6. Go and do some more homework bud.
