Hey, if you said that the trappers home has no toilet and its a con, why did you not mention that the camp office ALSO does not have a toilet!?! Thats unfair! P.S. i'm a trapper home fan. #trapperhomestead
Carter Dam is the central hub of the game, so it's the most convenient place to store loot, especially crafting materials and key tools. It's very fast to retrieve something from the dam when you need it in some other region.
That's a super good point, I don't know why I never thought of that. Usually my games only span across a few regions, but I'm planning on doing a cartographer series at some point, so this tip will most certainly help out then! Thanks a lot for watching! :{D
@@gazwaag That's understandable. Looting all regions is a huge undertaking, but there's not much else to do once you're fully geared, and going for the 500 day achievement.
The debate on whether Camp Office or Trappers Homestead is the best base is constantly debated in the community. There are a couple of additional features for both that are also thrown into the debate. Extra Points for Trappers: 1. Cave to MT right there so easy source of renewable Coal 2. Rabbit Grove right outside for easy trapping 3. Moose can spawn nearby Extra Points for Camp Office: 1. Short hike to the cave at lake overlook to wait out Cabin Fever 2. Easy to find your way back to in a blizzard due to the cable lines 3. Lake Bear for hunting
Sweet, thanks for laying it out so neatly! Later in the game when I am mainly relying on animals over scavenged goods is usually when I take up residence in the Trapper's Homestead, as the distance from the remaining (empty) structures is less important. @@gazwaag Camp Office is where I personally base but there are a few other structures around the map that I acknowledge as good bases. I usually setup 1 base per region with Camp Office being my main base. If the farmhouse from PV wasn't in PV it would be objectively the best base due to all the features it has. It's where I setup in PV when I am there. Farmhouse has Positives -workbench -3 different entrances for getting around predators -6 burner stove, fireplace, outdoor protected in the form of the grill. (you can cook on both the 6-burner + grill and hang around outside so no cabin fever accumulation) - plenty of storage space - lots of loot and multiple toilets for water early game - Screen in porch where you can hunt with impunity (really easy place to hunt the bear from) - Centrally located in PV Downsides -No nearby fishing -It's in PV so you'll have alot of blizzards
Trapper's Cabin has one glaring weakness: Cabin Fever. There is no nearby cave to wait out cabin fever in. The transition cave to mountain town is considered indoors and unusable with cabin fever. I never linger too long at Trappers.
@@wnchstrman Yeah I listed the cave near Camp Office as a positive for it but I guess you could also view lack of cave as a negative for Trappers. If you have enough firewood you can have a protected fire in barn outside Trappers which can be used but obviously the issue is it's only wind protected and not giving the back of cave bonus.
To add to Trapper's, the bed apparently has a higher condition regen multiplier than others in the region. Very useful for recovering condition lost from travelling on early Stalker & Interloper
I know nothing about these games but you are my son so I watch. This is actually way better for your caveman father to watch then 38 minutes of watching you playing a game. LOLove
These 5 locations are pretty much what one would expect. I would add an honourable mention to the logging camp trailers, which, while they don't have any indoor fire barrels, they do have a protected fire in a nearly 2 slot stove in a ruined building, and are a good temporary base while exploring the north corner of the map, especially the locations in and around the Clearcut. I'll also sometimes use the cabin between clearcut and Unnamed Pond for exploring that corner of the map, if wolves are being too much of a hassle from the trailers, or I came up from Trapper's.
Mystery lake camp office is ALWAYS my main base, idc how good the pleasant valley farm is, the camp office is literally centre of mystery lake which is centre of the entire map so it’s positioning on great bear is amazing
Nice! I often end up drifting towards it, even when I start in other zones. I still very much enjoy the Pleasant Valley Farmstead, but I prefer having fishing huts super close and, like you said, the Office is the central building in the central region! Can't go wrong. Thanks for your input! :{D

That's fair! If you plop a bedroll down and can withstand the creaking, then it definitely is a more practical base eh? Yeah, it's easy to get overwhelmed by stuff in the Trailers for sure.

@@justinlindfors8512 This is the best way to think of it as the Dam and Trailers as one big base. Store everything and do work at the dam but sleep in the trailers. Later you can drop an extra bedroll inside the dam permanently and the trailers become obsolete.
Thanks for the great areas you mentioned. I'm starting to get to know more of the maps as I play the survival mode more and more. A lot of deaths, but a lot that I learned. This game is truly a unique experience you can't find elsewhere. A true gem made by Hinterland studios.
When I started playing years ago, I desperately wanted to look at a map online, but resisted that urge until I decided I had sufficiently explored the map by myself! I can't wait for that same "new region" feeling again with Tales From the Far Territory! I'm going to get so lost... :{D

Great video! Adding on a few notes that in the Dam during the aurora there are exposed wires that can light up and zap you. If you put your sleeping bag on them by mistake and go to sleep while an Aurora comes on, pretty sure you get cooked in your sleep. Game over Also in the trailers I think they also can get very cold, if your clothing isnt good enough you risk freezing to death if the weather gets bad
@@gazwaag Another note about the wires is that they actually cut off access to the front of the dam from the rest of it. theirs some exposed wires in the hallway that connects the fire barrel to the stairs going up to the first floor. If the Aurora is out you can't access the fire barrel unless you were already on that side, and if you were you can't access the rest of mystery lake until it clears
One thing I'd add to the plus side of the Camp Office, the Cave at the lake Vista point. Granted it is easy to get a sprain going to and from it but it is safe, much safer than the Fishing Huts in my opinion, and easy to keep stocked for when Cabin Fever sets in. The cave behind the nearest Lake Cabins is also good for this, it is a farther walk but just as safe to get to and from if you use the trail behind the Office.
Nice options along with your opinions. But i'm a little bit sad that you did not include 3 trailers near logging camp area which have outdoor stove, some deers around, no bear and a lot of sticks which can take number 3 spots in best base in Mystery Lake. Also, trapper's cabin might take my number 1 spot personally because the amount of wildlife lurking around that area is abundant. Sometimes 2-4 rabbits can be spotted just behind the cabin. Sometimes 3-4 deers can also spawn near the cabin, sometimes a bear can spawn just to the north and be hunted easily around there, and also sometimes a moose can be hunted down easily too just in front of the cabin. Even though the storage space it provided is smaller compared to Camp Office, the survival chance that you can get just by hunting animals near trapper's cabin might easily surpass Camp Office. Just my personal opinion as an interloper survivalist though.
You make a lot of good points! Even though the Trappers Cabin is amazing for hunting, I still feel lonelier than at the camp office for some reason! With a majority of my playtime on easier difficulties, I tend to care more about the aesthetic of the location (along with beds/barrels/benches of course) than the more hardcore interlopers for sure. I go with the camp office, as long there is no frozen „friend“. If there is a corpse inside I feel so uncomfortable that I prefer trappers. But PV Farm is officially my main base at the moment and I am not going to change it for a while. The easy access to kill a bear is definitely a big point.
@@AmplifyChris I agree with you 100% that PV Farm is one of the location that provided an easy hunting for a bear. The only downside of PV however is more on the environment where the weather is so unpredictable and so unstable that if you got unlucky, you can be trapped in a single spot while a blizzard throws up for a full 2 days (at least from my experience)
omg Carter hydro dam DOES have real bad vibes, I think I only hate the tunnels in blackrock more. Then again, I can't with any and all exposed wires after dying in my 200+ hour save by stepping on some haha also to be fair camp office doesn't have a bathroom either 😁
That sounds devastating! And yeah it doesn't :/ even though they have plenty of space, and presumably four employees based on the amount of beds... so there's gotta be a stinky pit somewhere in the area eh?... Or is there an outhouse I've just never seen, hahaha.
I see what you did there. You made the dam trailers and The Carter Hydro Dam separate locations. They are the same, 7/10. You can take one of the many bedrolls and lay it down permanently to sleep. You gave the Forestry Lookout 6/10. What?? Even the Logging Camp or the cabin near The Unamed Pond beats The Forestry Lookout.
Why is it called Mystery Lake? Because where/how the people who worked at the camp office went to the bathroom is truly a mystery. I mean, seriously, even the lone cabin out by Unnamed Pond has an outhouse, right?
Yeah I had completely forgotten about the times I got zapped, so thanks for pointing that out! You'd think the floor being lava would be a nice change of pace from the frozen wasteland hahaha. :{D
i got stuck in endless loop tryin to cook food-water on stove. forgot there was 1 upstairs with dual burner..........lol. so far in my very limited playing time i like the farmhouse pleasnt valley best. i love thhe 6 stove burner. makes cooking-boiling a breeze. super effiecent with the wood. but i think once i settle in i will like the mystery lake lodge. i like the idea of fishing for food.and its legit stone throw away. i need to leave the base atm and go looting. i feel the 1 thing its short on is sticks.... and i dont have a hatchet- or saw yet. so oof lol. i feel i rushed to this spot to soon.
Yeah those extra burners are excellent, especially once you've got a few cooking pots! It takes up a lot of weight, but I try to pick up every stick in my path and dump them in a corner by my stove for quick fire-duration. They also boost the temperature by 1 degree Celsius per stick, so they're great if you need to bump up the temperature in a dire situation!! Thanks for sharing! :{D
I'll have to spend more time in Timberwolf for sure. I love that little cabin, but I've never really tried living anywhere else in that region! It's not quite as welcoming as Mystery Lake or Coastal Highway, eh? haha
Is it possible to base in a bunker. Since there random depending on when you enter the game. I always thought that if you based in one when you left it and then left the game, when you rejioned itd be gone along with all your stuff
They spawn when you start a new game (or when you enter the region, not 100% sure on that) but after that, they don't change for that save. If you leave the zone and re-enter, it'll be in the same location as you left it. If you start a new game, that's when it might be in a different location.
Unfortunately it does not. But they're a nice quick source of water when scavenging new buildings. I think it would be convenient if you could store large amounts of water in them at your home base, but once emptied they can't be refilled again. D}:
You are correct. The plural of moose is just "moose". Since "goose" is so similar and has the plural "geese", it's just a bit of fun to extend that to "moose" even though they act differently, haha. :{D
Could that be Mountaineer's Hut in Timberwolf Mountain? Or Pleasant Valley Farmstead in Pleasant Valley? Or some Milton Houses in Mountain Town? Or maybe you got another idea in mind?
