Luckylikeit That's the biggest problem with the Internet nowadays. That even if someone or something is universally shit you cannot for some reason say that are good elements in those people or things regardless. For example with Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice. Most of us agree it was bad and rather dissapointing. But you cannot then say nonsense like "there wasn't a single element in that film" which we all know isn't true. Even Jon Baily (the Honest Trailers voice guy) says in the Batman v Superman Honest Trailer that you would have to be stupid not to admit that there was good elements in that film.
No he's more like Nic Cage. We know the guy is very talented, but he just ends up choosing shit roles for shit movies. But all and all he has some pretty good jewels.
Ever seen Punch-Drunk Love? It's written and directed by someone with some real intelligence, Paul Thomas Anderson (Same guy who made There Will Be Blood).
As the guy above said. Adam Sandler is extremely talented but he's also smart enough to know he doesn't need to put in the effort to make a shit tonne of money as people will eat up whatever he pouts out, no matter how garbage it is. I would love to see more serious dramatic roles from him. It's like when Jim Carrey does serious roles. They're both actors known best for weird out there comedy stuff but can blow it out of the water doing serious dramatic roles if given the right part.
I feel like it's the same with Lil Wayne. He IS a great rapper when he actually puts some effort into his songs, but he knows he can just churne out that crap he does, and still make millions.
Money probably, but when Sandler really puts his heart into something you can tell. He is really, really talented despite all the crap he gets. If he made less Jack and Jill's, and more genuinely funny, touching, and even serious stuff he'd be much more credible.
I went to see Click in the theater about a week after it opened; being in a small town and small theater there was only a few people in the theater. A woman sat behind my wife and I and at the end of the movie (the scene where he was running in the rain after his son crying his name) that lady in back of us was WAILING ... not just crying... freaking WAILING! It was a pretty awesomely sad part tho...
the coin trick "i love you son" and the rain scene always gets me. it reminds me of my dad. wish i had a remote of some sorts to go back in time and tell him i love him.
sry for intruding, but what did he say? x) I didnt get it, that scene where he is crying, and the scene where he says that they got each other but then I didnt understand the sentence after that
Every part of Click except for the last 30 minutes can suck it. The drama that suddenly rears its head as he nears his death is so terrifyingly powerful.
First of your videos I watched was the first part of the 10 best of Robin Williams (not counting you're appearances on Nostalgia Critic). Must say, I've been enjoying your videos sense then. They are well done and engaging and you're a good host that keeps it interesting. Good job, Walter! Keep the videos coming.
Dude, thanks for this. With all the "bad" stuff Sandler has been in lately, i completely forgot why I enjoy Adam Sandler in the first place. It's good to see a positive review about his work for a change. The last "good" film I saw him in was Punch Drunk Love. Im surprised that role only made an honorable mention.
I'm predicting his top 5 best would be Raising Arizona, Adaptation, Wild at Heart, Leaving Las Vegas, and Bringing out the Dead. Con Air and Lord of War could be there, too. But I think the one we'd all be waiting for would be his worst. Nic Cage freakouts are the best.
I'm still head over heels for "Click." I remember watching it when I was twelve, back when I was a HARDCORE Adam Sandler buff, and this movie just blew me out of the water. Especially the last thirty minutes of the movie, "Click" gives me the same, beautiful, appreciative feel as I do with movies like "The Family Man," "It's a Wonderful Life," or "Cinderella Man." It's important to note Sandler's amazing performances, despite his recent lack-lusters (at least he's no M. Night Shyamalan). This is a fantastic video: one I never realized I wanted to see, until I "clicked" it with my mousepad. Thanks!
So much to choose from. I myself hate all of the comedies he was in, and haven't seen any other performance of his, but I think that there is a general consensus that the vast majority of his work is utter shit. In the "Happy Madison Production" it feels like he's not even attempting to be funny anymore. He just takes huge budgets, and makes the dumbest movies imaginable. I have a really hard time believing that he actually thought that "Jack and Jill" for example was good. When he was younger, I could chalk it up to being misguided, but a 40 year old man that talks like a mentally challenged 5 year old is just wrong.
congrats for putting reign over me on the number one spot. i personally adore this movie, go back to it often and it's definitely a testament on how great an actor sandler can be. generally great job with your lists walter, looking forward to whatever you've got coming up!
Thank you for putting "Reign Over Me" at number one. Most people I've talked to never heard of that film and it's a beautiful, emotional film. Again thank you
list of who you should cover next: Jack Nicholson Harrison Ford Eddie Murphy Mark Walberg Leonardo Dicaprio Denzel Washington Christian Bale Edward Norton Brad Pitt Liam Neeson Michael Keaton Natalie Portman Arnold Schwarzenegger Heath Ledger Mel Gibson Sean Connery Paul Newman Michelle Pfeiffer Samuel L Jackson Ben Kingsley Bryan Cranston Tom Hardy Cameron Diaz Meryl Streep Robert DeNiro Al Pacino David Bowie Morgan Freeman Robert Downey Jr Scarlett Johansson Sam Rockwell Mike Myers (they did it for Adam they can do it for anyone) Daniel Craig Hugh Jackman Ben Stiller Janes Franco Jonah Hill Michael Clark Duncan Dustin Hoffman Bruce Lee and Brandon Lee John Travolta Hugo Weaving Keanu Reeves Laurence Fishburne Nicolas Cage Matthew McConaughey Tommy Lee Jones Clint Eastwood Christopher Lee Chadwick Boseman Sally Field Zoe Saldana Michael Fassbender Patrick Stewart Will Smith Mark Hamill and Ryan Reynolds
Clown Prince You do know you can edit right? My guess for Nicolas Cage worst are Piece of Crap Christian Movie 1-5, possibly subbing a piece of crap for Wicker Man. Lol Nicolaus
Even remembering that scene from Reign Over Me made me cry. That was such a powerful scene at the end. I hate what such a great actor has been reduced to.
click is similar to a short story. a guy is given a small toy that you pull to skip ahead to certain times. he starts by skipping commute every day, then meals, then he is sick of college so he skips that. then he doesnt enjoy the entry stages of his job. then he skips his engagement because he wants to be married. when he realizes that he skipped all the things that were important for things that didnt matter as much. then he dies and it ends
YAAAAY!!! Thank you for including John Clasky. Spanglish was one of my mom's favorite movies, so it'll always hold a special place in my heart, and I feel Sandler did a pretty good job 😊
I completely agree with Reign Over Me as # 1. While it isn't the most exciting movie, Sandler does do a great job in really feeling for his character. I would've swapped Big Daddy with Punch Drunk Love, to be honest. That came out in 2002, and that was something COMPLETELY different for him at the time. Even in 2016, I can't say I've grown to hate Adam Sandler because the guy can act.
Great picks, Walter! I haven't seen Spanglish or Reign Over Me, so I'll have to check those out. I'll always have a stupid spot in my heart for Happy Gilmore; glad you gave it a mention!
Tbh, Click made me cry. Hard. My dad and I were watching it together and we just kind of hugged until the end credits. I can be pretty heartwrecking like that.
Should've won. Rewatched it the other night, it's truly the most immersed Sandler's ever been in a role. You're not watching Sandler, you're watching Barry Egan. Certainly better than a mention lol
Yeah, definitely agree with you there. And it's not just Adam Sandler that's good in it; the writing, music, and visuals are all also amazing. It's nothing like the vapid comedies that many of his movies are, it's very intelligent and offers such a complex character. One of my favorite movies from one of my favorite directors.
Finally some appreciation for CLICK, it is not just the funniest Sandler movie but it is the most relatable to all people, especially when he jumps ahead in his lifetime it is so uncanny as it reminds the audience of the part of their lives they missed out on and how scary is getting into old age. Even though the movie has cringeworthy toilet and fart jokes in general the laughter is non stop except in the parts where you find yourself crying. A great movie in my dictionary
So let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink Put you to bed if you've had too much to drink I could be the man who grows old with you I wanna grow old with you - Adam Sandler in Wedding Singer This is one of my favorite songs ever.
I'm at 4 minutes in and I'm cheating running my mouse over the bar to see thumbnails and seeing that Reign Over Me is in this list has me shouting for joy I love that movie so much.
I really liked Funny People. Sandler was great at being insufferable but strangely compelling and amusing. It really left an impact and I was a bit disappointed it didn't get a mention.
Sandler's best performance/movie is easily Punch-Drunk Love. None of his other efforts even come close. That is one impressive performance of a character which encompasses every talent at Sandler's disposal. It has shades of every single performance in this Top 5 all in one. Plus, it helps being written and directed by one of the best filmmakers working today, P.T. Anderson.
Click? Click??? You point out emotional moments, but they didn't land well because he spent the majority of the movie being an unlikable jerk. He only "learned a lesson" because the remote control malfunctioned, not because he realized that he was stupid to be so selfish and misuse his powers. *Click?!?!?* And Punch Drunk Love only got an honorable mention.
i agree with your comment on click. ive seen this movie once when i was a kid and remember how movied i was by that last half hour and sandler's performance. i should watch that movie again before i forget it... again.
