I’m currently at Spangdahlem and would def choose it over Ramstein due to it being more low key but still having the same travel options and actually being closer to Belgium and France
I live in the UK and my fiance has been trying to be stationed in Lakenheath for the past seven years, but we've had no luck 😢 Everyone who I've met from Lakenheath or know that have been stationed there through my fiancé have loved it. He's also been to Kadena and I visited him and we loved it ❤ I've heard great things about Ramstein and Aviano from friends who have been stationed there and I'd love to go to Italy especially
😂 small world, i know your fiancé. Because he tags you on FB all the time. I went to ALS with him when i was at SJ. Im at Lakenheath now and i think I rubbed it in his face when i got the assignment, all for fun, tell him I said hello.
I am a Marine so I'll make the joke so others don't have to. The best air force base is... drumroll please.... all of them. Just kidding I've been to a few and my favorite was Marriott 😂.
lived in kadena as a kid while my dad served in the air force. was the best experience i’ve had in my life i’m going to be joining the air force here soon at the age of 21 hoping i can get back to kadena we will see!
Hey Makenna - now that you've got a little time under your belt, could you make an update video on how the air force is compared to what you thought it would be? I have always felt like I wanted to serve, similar to you, but just haven't found the right time to make it happen. Looking forward to hearing how your experience is going!
I add my vote to Chris Hrich, Makenna, I am married and mid 30s too and you helped me alot learning about ev.thing in BMT and I applied but been waiting for the MEPS to check my med records forever (the new Genesis) ...anyhow...it would be great if you made another video for how much different the experience would be for married ladies ! 🙏 (my husband is a veteran from the marines too :) ).
Aviano is also cool cause you can see the Alps to the north. Plus going to Siganella on Sicily is amazing!! I recommend reading Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan. An AMAZING true historical book written about the area.
I was stationed on Rose Barracks, HQ 8th ID, in Bad Krueznach. I loved Finance! In 1991, I trained at Sembach AB, stayed in their dorms for a week. So much nicer than our barracks. I also liked Ramstein AB. At the time, they had a new commissary, and nice BX, bowling alley, the works. Don't regret serving, but I wish I had gone air force! Oh well, that's all history. I got out of the army in August of '94 during the downsizing of over 400K troops!
Makenna!! Can we please get an update on how your Airforce joirney is going please?? We havent seen you in a year! I hope you are doing good and living your best life! ❤ Please please post soon! 🙏
Yeah -- it's ALL about what YOU like. I did a full career in the Air Force, and only once did I get a base of preference, which was Andrews. This was coming back to CONUS from my very first base of all, which was Osan. I was worked like a dog at both bases, and the time flew -- particularly at Osan. After that, it was to bases that would never have been on my dream sheet in the first place, with the exception of the USAF Academy, which was on my sheet early in my career but I never got it until I was a TSgt about to be promoted to MSgt, which caused me to have to leave the Academy since I promoted myself out of my job! Which I thought was a bit odd since my predecessor got there as a MSgt and didn't leave until he got a line number for Senior! So what was the difference between us -- since we were doing the same jobs (plural), as all Senior NCO's took on additional duties as SEL's to the Cadet Wing -- particularly during Cadet Basic Training. I know I'm going to get the typical "OK Boomer" response from most of you out there, but I'm just saying that the Air Force should not be all about the wants and needs of the individual Airman. After all, what does "Service before self" actually mean?
I’m a little surprised that you didn’t go with Yokota rather than Kadena. Yokota would seem to have more benefits and perks being that is centrally located on the Japanese mainland and is right outside of Tokyo. Kadena is great as well, I’m not knockin it. 👍
I was stationed at Lajes Field,AZORES 83-84..beautiful island off of Portugal coast ,there 15 months/great island people and super coworkers..SUPER EXPERIENCE
The Rock huh??? Old timers here but shows you how prospective changes depending on gender and martial status. Unless things have changed drastically over the years Okinawa was a great place to do a tdy in for a month or two for the single young airman but when your there for 18 months or longer then not so much IMO. Liked Lakenheath AB a lot better especially for occasionally going to Mildenhall AB and meeting the locals and travelling through G.B. The best for me however was Clark AB but that's now gone forever😞
My son is going through the recruitment process but is really nervous about getting the COVID shot. Can you talk about your and other young men’s experience with it and, if any, effects it has had? Thank you!
@@ashleytorres7070 Thank you. My son is worried about the cases of myocarditis found in young men after the shot. We all had COVID and it was just a sore throat for a couple days and now he has to get a shot with this risk so he is just looking to hear from men who have had it and their personal experiences with it instead of just what he reads or hears on the news.
Hopefully you didn't let your child get the shot. It was a scam that could cause heart problems and the military no longer requires it. At the very least your son waited until the covid hysteria died down.@@LisaMarie05
@@therealmarkusb it’s cool, just don’t like how it’s not in the city life lol but I been here over a year now and got 2 more to go. I want Germany, Japan, Hawaii, Guam next but we shall see
After coming from Asia, I was pumped to get Germany. Was surprised, I Did NOT like germany at all. Everything shuts down after 6pm. Nothing open on Sundays at all. Rude locals who stare with zero shame, having experienced proper high speed rail in asia; the trains in germany are a complete joke, the weather is cold, dark, rain, and fog most of the year, speed traps everywhere, everything is super expensive, ZERO air conditioning in the whole country, no screens windows so most restaurants are infested with flys, landlords who discriminate you if your not german, vendors who know english but will overcharge you if you don’t speak in german, after your see your first 10 castles out of 10,000 in germany, they get old really quick. Oktober fest was also overpriced and overrated. The best thing about being stationed in germany was visiting the other surrounding countries (if you don’t mind blowing hundreds of dollars over the weekend). 10 out of 10 would NOT recommend. Go to Japan instead.
I agree with this comment. I am counting down the days until we leave Germany. I had way more fun living in South Korea leaving every weekend to explore Seoul and night life. :D
