I was active duty and have a few friends who are SEALS and a few that are SF. Most of them wear the G-Shock DW9052-1. It's literally $60. Don't overthink your watch purchase based off of hype...
I wore that exact watch on my first deployment flying in Afghanistan. Bought a Luminox in Iraq and used that from there on for about 8 years. Great, mega tough watches both of them.
I can second that. If not a G-Shock some of the boys would wear Suunto or Ironmans but mostly G-Shock. Simple is better. One of the boys wore a Rolex everywhere and we all thought he was crazy but it went thru hell and back and never had an issue.
10 year British veteran, multiple tours and training, light role/air assault/counter insurgency/mechanised etc, Arctic, Desert, African SC. My go-to watch on operations and during HD training was a Citizen Promaster AY 5000. Bullet proof, never let me down once. Had a British Issue CWC G10 NATO for in camp use (lighter), and used an early incarnation of the Suunto Vector for fitness. Happy with all of them.
Casio foxtrot 91 whiskey for the win... crows, blades and even Binladen repping. Absolute beast of a timepiece. Sure the PF bloke on my LRCC had one as well. Ally.
I was a US Special Forces officer in Vietnam in the late 1960’s and mostly wore Seiko water resistant watches - they were rugged, durable and fairly accurate. Later when in the reserve USSF, I wore Casio G Shock, for the same qualities, especially since they were cheap and expendable.
I was a K9 handler. We were issued G Shocks and I loved mine. Still wear G Shocks most of the time. I had a Suunto Core and eventually got a Traverse Alpha but both of them would need replacement bands too frequently. I used a Garmin Instinct Tactical for the last few years contracting but I always go back to my G Shock.
The G Shock 2000 has 4 measuring features which support shooting solutions: barometric pressure, temperature, altitude, and compass. The compass serves to get exacting wind direction to better understand wind value to enter into MOA wind constant formula.
Tough Solar basically means FOREVER battery and Atomic clock which "self-corrects' FIVE times DAILY after midnight ON THE SECOND accuracy. How do I know? More than ten years of wearing the same CASIO and hasn't' let me down once. It doesn't get any better than this. Try that with your fancy "Rolex." Try this neat trick: if you have a Casio with Atomic clock check your cell phone. The 2nd hand will PASS on the SAME TIME as soon as a new minute is displayed. Crazy accurate beyond belief.
Sorry, I'll stick to my Rolex. I've had 3 and still have 2. Always puts a smile on my face when I look at it. When I travel to another time zone, I donr need 25 push button steps to resent the atomic time zone. Just pull the crown out a click and turn to move up or back and done. Same with daylight savings time to standard time. Pull out the crown and turn forward or back and done. No need to reset to some atomic time with 25 push button steps.
I was in the Marine Corps had a couple buddies that were Navy Seals I bought a luminox Navy Seal watch those guys gave me so much s*** said luminox for civilian posers they all wore G-Shock my luminox actually broke when I was in the field one time try to get it serviced got nothing but run around from luminox switch to a G-Shock never look back left the Corps still have my G-Shock till this day still works like day one and it's been years have two boys they both want my G I told them no when I die bury me with it in 100 years dig my body up and change the battery and I bet it will work
blacked out numbers on the face and the bezel never made sense to me - that is the hallmark of a poser watch because it's basically unreadable and pointless
The military is not likely to accept any watch that broadcasts a detectable electronic signal, which rules out any watch that communicates with a cell phone, which rules out the Garmin Tactix Delta. Some units might also reject watches that are reflective or glow, which might rule out the Luminox Navy SEAL. I've seen it stated elsewhere that the Casio G-Shock DW9052 is the standard watch issued at the Navy Diving and Salvage Training Center in Panama City, Florida.
My Casio is 15 years old, solar powered and still working great. I've had 2 suunto core all blacks and neither lasted more than two years. Suuntos customer service was sub-par and they're just not worth it. Get a Casio or for a little extra $, get a Garmin instinct
@@nadzirnadzri860same here. I used to sell them at a store and they had multiple quality issues. I don't wear them anymore, my range watch is now a g-shock tough solar.
G shock mudman and range man ( ones with mud resist ) are one of the best The mudmaster series, especially the ones with tough solar beat everything Mud resist is a must have feature
I’ve had a mud master for just over 18 months now. It’s complete garbage, 2 of the 5 buttons stuck randomly, it’s needlessly complicated to set the time, and it’s stopped working twice needing to be sent in to be repaired. I do abuse the watch in my career, however that’s what it’s meant to be built for.
I wore Mudman (G9300) for about 4 years. Overall satisfied. But some summer days, it has a fog issue (inside of the case), especially when I walk into a cool room from the hot humid outside.
I have many GShocks and a few Luminoxes. I would say the Gs are more rugged but the major advantage of the Luminox is you can see it in the dark without pushing any buttons. If you are a soldier I would think that is a major advantage as you can read it while holding a rifle and not have to take your hands off the gun to push a button to read the watch time. Same if you are a trucker or anything at night. If I had to get rid of my entire collection and keep one watch it would be my Luminox Sea Turtle.
I own the G shock range man and the Frogman. The rangeman has been a complete let down. Took moisture on from the get go, sent it back to casio and due to COVID bullshit it took 7 months to send back only to failure again shortly after. The frogman however has been great but I don’t wear it nearly as much as the range man.
/Timex was the name of the game when I was growing up and went into the Army, pretty much everyone had a Timex, bought them at the PX, cheap and durable.
Cool video, thanks! I started off with G-Shocks but now I have two Luminox color marks and just ordered the Suunto core stealth. Most definitely fun Tech and I spend a lot of time out in the woods hunting and Hiking here in Maine so I definitely need something rugged and dependable. Anyhow thanks for the awesome video and I was kind of excited to see a few of the watches that I use make your list. Have a great day.
The Timex Ironman didn't make it through 3 months on my job as a beater watch. I don't know how people in the military would wear a Timex Ironman over Casio G-Shock going to a battle.
The only problem I would have is battery life. Need a way to inform you how much life the battery has before a mission. Be on a mission and half way through your watch battery dies. Because using different functions may use more power
Brother is BUDs 244 SDVTEAM 1, know his entire team and never seen any of these “Navy SEAL” watches grace their wrists, the most common worn was a cheapo Gshock or a vector………. Granted it was a few years ago so perhaps modern SEALS rock these “navy seal” watches while thinking of the title of an obligatory future book. The operators of old felt No need to overspend on these watches. Nor should you.
I love the look of my Luminox (navy seal black) but it has the cheapest most unreliable movement available. I’m on my 3rd movement, shocking they put a crappy $12 movement in a lovely case. Very dissatisfied, glad I didn’t pay the crazy price they want for it now.
Is the OTS a good one? One clip a man had the OTS on and that's the $20 knock off version of the Suunto Core. I actually own both so I didn't know if the OTS was put into the video by accident. It looks just like the Suunto but as I stated earlier, it's the knock off. It is shown around the time you were talking about the compass feature on the Suunto.
Any G shock is where it’s at!! Luminox was one of the worst watches I had the displeasure of owning!! The wrist band split in the middle ;2-3 different bands did this. Second hand fell off. Wouldn’t keep time. Paint rubbed off the bezel l. Absolutely garbage!! Loved the look and weight, but that’s the only pros. G shock simply last!!!
I bought a Luminox Diver watch, I word it out at the shooting range. The rifle I was using was a 5.56 AR-15, the both of the hands fell off. I will never buy another Luminox.
I don't care what navy seals wears! I stick to casio, it served me well and so does most other units. That guy Cliff Emersson said a watch for like 10,000 usd, how do you blend in with a watch like that?! Make no sense!
If its a modern gold Rolex, they start at about $30000 retail, more on the secondary market and are COSC certified which is more an accurate enough and as accurate as a $10 quartz. I think you might be telling porky pies, lol.
@@djocharablaikan8601 Its an aid to navigation, can potentially give your psition away. If you are trying out for SF, you can only use the stuff they give you.
@@itsallrobbish okay makes sense for actual training, They dont want you to have any infair advantage over your peers, but i mean actual deployment? I ended up buying these and i was specificaly concerned with satelitte being able to give away my position, i am no expert so i asked garmin helpchat and they said the way gps devices work is they catch the signal from the GPS or other satelites and then calculate their position based on what signal they receive, not even satelite knows where the GPS device is, now off course, GPS itself keeps a log of places and should it be captured, adversaries could easily see where have you been, but this log is disabled in "Stealth Mode" so even if someone captured your GPS device he would have no clue where you have been on stealth mode, Device can also be "Kill switched" to factory settings though i dont know whether or not a skilled lab could retrieve that info. However having a Map and a compass on a watch that works independently from your cellphone and not tied to amy google services is an absolute godsend in my opinion, something like this would be a science fiction 10 years ago, this is a litteral james bond watch. I would definitly take this over my phone in deployment any day. Bought it second hand for 500 bucks, value is absolutely insane for the money. as an added bonus, clock is satelite adjusted, litterally the most precise time piece money can buy.
Gg 1000 has an outstanding battery life? 😂 Had to replace the battery in mine two months after buying it. Then two years later it was dead again. I have about ten other Casios, solar and non solar, and none of them have needed a battery in about five years
Watch can work independently, doesnt need to be paired with ohone at all and can be used in stealth mode so it doesnt save its GPS position but knowing the military, i dont think they will take that chance. Especially not for units operating behind enemy lines.
If you want a watch that is unlikely to get scratched on the face, you need one that has a sapphire crystal lens... The GG1000 has a mineral glass lens. Upgrade to the GWG1000 or the GWG2000. Of course, you'll be spending twice as much or more...
