I consider myself getting boring. I'm 48, I work at a bank and wild looks are not flattering or accepted. Depending on what the tones in my clothes are I go gold, rosy, neutral or even a hint of green or purple as a wash of colour can be ok. And that's eventually my favourites'that give me a sophistacted or a no make up look. So I don't like Rainbow, Grungy (like that Chucky you liked) but hello for I need a Nude, Golden and Glam if I think of my favourite brand Natasha Denona. Mixing and matching palettes by reorganising doesn't work in my brain. The names don't match the colours anymore :-) So I just work sometimes with multiple palettes to get the look I want if I have the time. If I don't; 5-pans are my sweetspot.

Hi Maaike unfortunately most colour stories don’t really work for me and I’m only using a percentage of the shades in a palette. I’m leaving out warm tones and anything really deep. I like actual eyeliner as it stays put better than eyeshadow, so often really deep shades are redundant in a palette for me. Warm tones make me look unwell and aren’t flattering on my extremely cool toned pale skin, so I mostly avoid those too. I don’t want flaky/glittery shades that fall down my face either. I like a gradient of shades with lots of lighter shades that look good on me and truthfully I like some of the K beauty stuff I have. I’m ok about having a fully matte palette and adding a single with the level of shimmer I want to use. I’ve found this can be really successful and everyday for me. I enjoy smooth eyeshadow that doesn’t emphasise the texture of my 52 year old eyelids. Whether I like the colour story of a palette or not there are few palettes that work well in their entirety for me - it’s just a fact unfortunately. I’m living a life that doesn’t call for full glam hardly at all, so I’m fine with the more “boring” colour schemes people love to moan about 😂. I’m somewhere between being a person who wears the same thing everyday and those who are playing with colour or texture every day😂. I wear colour in a more muted way, I even like a duochrome in an otherwise fairly simple eye look and I just enjoy makeup. I’m not however going for my shopping with a really dark smoky eye or a really bright sparkly eye 😂. This just doesn’t fit my lifestyle any more at the age I am now. In my teens, twenties or even thirties I would have loved really experimental eye looks and worn whatever I felt like even if it was very overdone for the occasion. It would have worked well with the multicoloured hair and seriously rock chick look my clothes portrayed. In my fifties I am still listening to rock music, I am still a biker roaring around and I still wear things maybe not everyone my age does 😂, but the hair and makeup have softened to be more flattering to the skin I have now and makes me look better than all that bright colour or smokiness would. Am I now really boring? Maybe or maybe not😂, but my makeup and hair are more boring and I’m fine with it. Whatever makes me feel more beautiful and confident is what it is about after all and that might be completely different from someone else. Best wishes x

Exactly! We should wear what makes us feel good. And if that is 'boring' makeup than so be it.

Both of my favorite palettes are here. One on top and one on bottom. Natasha Denona Retro and Glamlite Chucky. Love love love borh of them, each for different reasons.😁❤️

I like both a lot as well, but the ND color stories just aren't perfect for me.

I only have Mini Starlette from Natasha Denona, but I've seen many videos and swatches, so I agree, there are always some warm shadows in her palettes.

Always some warm shades AND always repeat shades from other palettes.

I don’t like Natasha denona and I feel crazy at times because is a favorite for everyone. Not trill about the color stories, at the end only 2-3 shades are worth it to me, and also not as long lasting as other brands (pat, Huda, Mac, urban, indie…). Btw, you do great content.

Yes reorganizing them works so well.

Some of these items are "companion palettes" designed for the exact idea of the modern consumer who has a ton of makeup. Like us.

No they are not meant to be companion palettes. That's not how they are marketed.

The only Natasha Denona palette I have that isn't full self-duplicating shades and/or just midtones is Triochrome, which is my absolute favorite she's done and possibly of all of my colorful palettes for matte shades. I'm so frustrated with the brand, because the quality is amazing (though the cream to powder shades don't last as long in my experience) but the color stories, even the more creative ones, are lacking. Xenon is the worst offender - I reorganized mine to add some neutral browns and a pink (from Love) and ditch two of the matte whites that looked slightly different in the pan and identical on the eyes.

For me the worst offender was definitely retro glam. I thought that palette was so disappointing after all the hype it got.

Everyone loved that xenon palette. I couldn’t understand it. I love a smoky gray/black look from time to time but a whole palette of it. Come on now. I’ve yet to see someone use it again or talk about it again.

@@TracyD2 I bought it when it was marked down on lookfantastic to €26.95 for about five minutes. It's fine as a "cheaper than the mini" and does well as a companion palette, but I would not have been happy if I'd paid full price. I ended up reorganizing it before I'd done anything but swatch, honestly.

@@FloatinginDreams I wouldn't buy that one because the tones don't work well with my coloring, but there wasn't even a "too bad this won't work on me because it's so pretty" consideration. I'm also in NL, so having to order without swatching holds me back if I'm iffy on something. I'm pretty sure that's saved me a ton of money over time.
