I make beauty and fashion related video three times a week.
I mainly post about eyeshadow palettes, do lots of Essence and Catrice reviews and I love focusing on what I have rather than the newest of the new. I have fair skin with a cool to neutral undertone which heavily influences my makeup preferences. I try every shade in every palette I buy and I do regular shop my stash videos to rotate through my collection and try out new products. Single products reviews go up on the blog, so check that out if you are looking for closeup swatches and what things look like on my face. In terms of fashion, I mainly love to experiment and focus mainly on fun vintage items and good wardrobe staples for petite (I'm only 5"!) apple shaped body types.
Hi Maaike I don’t own many truly warm toned palettes because I’m so cool toned 😂, but I do own a few. The Zoeva caramel mélange is in my collection and for a warm palette it is pretty. The tarte tartelette in bloom looks really warm on my skin, but like the Zoeva the quality is excellent. K beauty palettes in general are very warm and the Rom&nd peony nude garden is a softer take on warmth ( at least on me it’s very warm). The Rom&nd dusty fog garden has a row of warm tones and a row of cooler tones in excellent quality mattes to build any look from in the more “neutral” eyeshadow category (a lot cheaper than Mario etc who offer a similar type of palette). Many brands have warm toned palettes on offer in their range, so for those who have a warmer undertone it’s easy to find shades you will love I think. An interesting ranking for sure 😂. I’m not going to buy any more warmer palettes as they’re so tricky for me to wear without looking slightly ill😂, but I can make the ones I have work as companion palettes for specific eye looks. Best wishes x
I still think orange and peach could work for you if you want to make your eyes pop! Blue against orange and red tones is a classic color theory combo!
@@FloatinginDreams my eyes are grey and most certainly not bright blue to make the most of opposites in the colour wheel 🤣. They have a navy rim to the iris but it’s very dark and not obviously blue. The main part of the iris is grey with a smattering of smoky blue flecks, but not obvious unless you’re far too close to me🤣. Pink I can wear if it’s a blue toned pink or a pastel pink. I can wear a bronze shade with a more brown toned taupe and even a hint of copper or rose gold as an accent on the lid, but it’s far from my most flattering colour scheme. Peach is very tricky and only works as an accent colour with blue to offset the warmth. I can make some things work by contrasting them with blue or blue based purples, but an overall warm look is not flattering on me. I wear silver jewellery and have an ashy tone to my blonde hair. Can I wear amber jewellery in an obvious silver setting- yes, because the silver is next to the skin. It’s the same with makeup and leaving warmth as an accent colour can work for me. X
Ah, my comfort zone. Your rearranged ABH and ND palettes are so, so good. Love my Viseart London and San Francisco, never was able to purchase the Paris one, unfortunately.
I've been thinking of buying one of the six-pan Naked palettes (I have so many eyeshadows, so I'm not really interested in the larger palettes), but they are obviously rather pricey, so are they worth the splurge?
That depends on which one you plan on getting. The Naked 2 Basics was always my favorite of the three, but there are so many neutral palettes out there that are cheaper and better than these that I don't think you need to splurge.
Kat von d got controversial here, racist , antisemitic and anti vax remarks got her bought out of her makeup brand. Kendo has rebranded under just KVD and has released a few palettes. My fav palette of all time was the NARS Narcissit dual finish eyeshadow palette. I hope they someday bring it back!
Ah I’m sorry I misunderstood you when you said you didn’t know what’s going on or something. I have seen a few palettes , and Lauren Mae Beauty said they was nice quality along with the swizzle sticks? Or whatever they are called lol I can never find them in stock anywhere
You have such a lovely collection I f cool toned pallets. Those have always been my favorites. You have inspired me to go through my collection and pick out my cool toned pallets so so can make more use of them.
I have been loving your eyelooks, and I have been using for inspiration ❤ I still have the original releases of Naked and Naked 2, Naked 2 is the best one they ever made. I have that Monarch KVD and Huda palette and it is in my makeup box. Huda Desert Dusk has gone bad and my Mercury one is going bad too, I wish they lasted longer. I live in the Desert like zero Humidity and they are bad. I have 25 year old Mac eyeshadows that are still good! Bring back parabens!! I love the ABH x Mario and I wish they would bring it back and I am going to dupe it and use Sidney Grace singles. I wanted the Meesha Lou Witchcraft so much!
Thank you for the Video and off topic but I think you would like the Coloured Raine Thunder eyeshadow palette and it is such a good blue/purple palette. I love using my older palettes and I love my Natasha Denona Safari and I paid a lot of money for my palettes and I want to use them. People need to remember people are getting money by people buying what they are recommending and I know how do you really know you are obsessed with something 1 time! ABH subculture is a gem!
The Mini Bloom is so lovely, a shame it's not available anymore. I think of my Giant Wolves palette as a gem-toned palette, and I'm always drawn to jewel tones in a color story-- if a palette has a rich ruby, bright clear red or sapphire shade, I WANT it.
I live in Berlin and there are still some Catrice 5 in a box available at DM. Last December I got the Diamond Lavender, and it is quite good for 4€, but I also tend to reach for other palettes instead
Yes there are still a few but my favorites are no longer around sadly. I still have all of them though as I can't part ways with that little mini collection.
A LOT of people liked Subculture. There were batch issues. That's why the controversy happened. Also, you are saying Subculture is a companion palette?? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I really need to pull out club nebula again! I love it too! I haven’t worn makeup much these last couple of weeks because my husband, baby, and I have been sick. Hopefully soon I can get back to it and use that palette!
Subculture ❤️! I love it so much I got a used backup ! ( all colors barely used except the Lt.skintone beige that was gone so I replaced it with a strong blue brown duochrome from a wet n wild trio I’d depotted .).
I'm sure more of my collection is discontinued than not at this point; Subculture is an enduring fave, Colourpop's At Forest Sight, and my beloved 6-7 Dominique Cosmetics palettes. If I had to pick one of them to re-purchase, it's Berries & Cream, a pretty much perfect palette.
@@FloatinginDreams It is, but more intense, and overall more warm in tone. Kinda why I didn't get Lush Life, but when I see people using that, I'm beguiled.
Somewhat off topic, but I think I remember you looking for cool toned Kbeauty eyeshadow palettes, and I think 3CE has some you might want to check out! There’s a bigger palette called Raw Neutrals and a smaller one called A Shy Ash.
Hi Maaike I think one of the palettes “that got away” and I really wanted to buy is the smoke and mirrors from gloss gods😂. Of everything they have released it’s the one I liked the look of most. The Ravens castle palette is another palette I probably should have bought, as it no longer seems to be available. I see UD have rereleased the original Naked palette, so perhaps naked 2 is on its way. I have the naked 2 bought just as it was discontinued and still wearable, but it wasn’t really cool toned enough for me so I tend to use it in the Autumn/Fall. I bought the naked 3 mini rather than the naked 3 and it pulls really peachy on me tbh, so it also is an Autumn palette for me. The Dior silver backstage is discontinued and it’s such a favourite (the smoky version is much darker and not the same at all btw). I have never bought an ABH palette as even back when they were at the height of popularity and absolutely all over social media, I knew they were too warm for me. Unlike yourself with your more neutral undertone, warmer hair and brown eyes my extremely cool undertone, ashy blonde hair and grey eyes really do not look good in warm tones. That really really curtails what palettes are going to look good on me. I’ve learned sometimes the hard way that what many people call a cool toned palette isn’t as cool toned on me, making it far less wearable than I had hoped when buying it. I can just about pull off some more neutral tones as a warmer option, but true warmth is problematic and can make me look really unwell 😂. Best wishes x
Raven's Castle is still around! I just found out she changed the name. It's now cosmetics by Lisa! And wouldn't it be grant if UD rereleased Naked 2. That would be one I would snatch up in a heartbeat!
HI Maaike, thank you for the great video! Did you try the Byredo Mineralscapes palette? It seems the perfect palette for cool tone lovers 🧊 I was able to buy it during the last restock on Niche Beauty but I'm still waiting for it.
Ive been using my Tropic palette by natasha denona a tonne this year especially the pastel shades. I love going back to older palettes and enjoying them.
Subculture is the only ABH palette I've kept in my collection. Ironically, I didn't get on with the ABH palettes that are super popular and this one ended up being my favorite. About a year ago I was visiting family in the US and found a new, untouched one at Marshall's (for $25!) so I have a fresh-ish (I know...) one again with the better formula.
I've always liked cool tones, but the recent boom in the cool tone trend has definitely made me lust after all the cool tone palettes! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Love seeing older makeup palettes-i rarely keep older palettes after expiration b/c my eyes are kinda sensitive. used to love the UD naked 3 palette. Happy to see they just brought back original naked palette. ended up mixing the yucca with some shades from retro glam since I didnt like the glam too much. Hope more brands have the magnetic eyeshadows you can remove from palettes.
I still have my original Naked palette too! It's in a box though and I don't use it anymore. Also, makeup doesn't expire as quickly as everyone thinks. Yes, it expires eventually, but if the texture and performance are still as when you bought it, you can still use the product. The little container on the back is NOT an expiration date. That is a very common misconception.
Thank you for a fun video, and for mentioning also the discontinued palettes! You are one of very few youtubers who do that, and after all, many of us still treasure our Zoevas and the Catrice 5 in a box palettes…. I love to see the good old stuff mentioned 🙂. Also, good timing for me, as I just yesterday came across my old BH Cosmetics Venom palette and decided to make it part of a cool toned “shop my stash”❄
Exactly! I love how everyone is always saying we should use the stuff we have, but then nobody actually shows that. To me that is so silly! I love the palettes I have whether they are still for sale or not.
I’m a light warm and I have to be careful how I wear cool neutrals because it can turn dirty on my eyes. I’ll usually put a grey on my lid and the transition leaning warmer to avoid muddy shades.
I enjoyed seeing your selection, and you know a good cool toned palette! I have to say I do not really like Gloss Gods, I have the Gal on Jupiter but I just do not use it, I am going to have to use it again. I did not enjoy the Lisa Eldredge Socerey eyeshadow palette, and it faded badly on my eyelids, and I have the Victoria Beckham palette and it a has a delightful formula. I regret not buying the Dior eyeshadow palette, and it is so beautiful. My favorite cool toned palettes are ER Cold Moon Glamlite Ghostface Cheeryup Fleeting Life ND Glam
Hi Maaike, do you maybe know whether Makeup By Lisa (the one with the Raven’s Castle palette) still exists? I'm googling but I'm unable to find it (it might that that website is restricted in my country, so I'm not sure). All I can find is Lisa Eldrige's makeup.
Hi Maaike it’s interesting how the difference between your “cool to neutral” undertone and my truly cool undertone affect the way palettes perform on us. The Viseart cool neutrals is for those who have a truly cool undertone and on me look the way it does in the palette with each shade being really distinct and true to the pan - I use mine a lot. The Xenon palette has a load of lighter mattes in different shades that all work in my crease as I am so pale and all the undertones show up on me distinctly there too. I just find some of the shades very glittery unfortunately. Brown is not a neutral on my skintone as it’s usually warmer toned, whereas most taupes look like a true neutral on me and aren’t cool toned. Peach never pulls pink, but many pinks pull peach (aka pastel orange) on me and mostly look warm toned unfortunately. Truly cool toned palettes are incredibly difficult to find that aren’t all grey - I really enjoy grey, but want some variation without it being really colourful. The Dior silver palette is one of my absolute favourites and never looks warm toned (I also really enjoy the thin formula on my older eyelids). I still like the Zoeva en taupe and the too faced white chocolate (mine were bought just as they were being discontinued so they’re still very usable). Some thoughts on some of the others shown: Naked two was much warmer on me than advertised Colorpop taupe same deal and very similar to the naked 2 Huda rose quartz is really colourful on me and not neutral hardly at all Fenty cool neutrals is really warm toned on me I still like the Catrice diamond lavender but I also like the Dior better Best wishes x
Thank you for this review. I think you're right about this Moira palette but (a big but 😏 ) there are other palettes who don't have these "problems". The green one from the love letter collection has three light shimmering shades. And it' s also thinner... 🎉
Haha, put the Ninetease on this morning. Could have gone for your No. 1 as well. This was a huge job ranking all of these palettes. You know I'm a warm toned gal right? Well, I seem to own quite a few cool(er) toned palettes as well.
It is a stunning palette for sure! But if I compare the price to the quality and the ease of use than I would not rank it super high. Doesn't mean it isn't a good one.
You must be up early because it’s 11:50 pm in New York right now. 😀 thank you cool tones are my favorite but I find I can get away with warmer tones this time of year. I take full advantage. Question for the ages why do luxury brands put the sponge applicators in all their palettes when everyone the world over tells them to stop.
My first pick for jewel tone palettes is the same as yours ! Shroud Arcana ! My next picks from my collection : Juvia’s place Nubian 2 & Afrique, Persona Identity 2 , Dose of Colors Friendcation , and quite literal Colourpop Play it Jewel and the KL megapalette ( cannot recall name and I’m pre coffee) . The Adept Minka kind of gives some jewel vibes ( shades of diamonds in a museum ) and the Pat McGrath motherships 1-5 ( I have the Bad Habit dupes) . I would also consider tourmalines, jade, pearls opals ,including fire opals and padparasha sapphires as well as citrines for gemstones.
