you have no issue with the talent swap mechanic?... really? instead of using a VERY cheap reagent, now we're going to have to pay a scribe to make them. (which from the sounds of it, it'll be fairly expensive...) you actually have no problem with being stuck with aoe talents for example? it sucks man :(
@Mr_Noteworthy
@Mr_Noteworthy 8 лет назад
You just dont switch per pull instead you just bring a mage or warlock or worst case use your ST talents for trash. Most players already do that even when given the opportunity to switch readily for low cost. And the scribe drop will be like dropping a repair bot or feast (potentially higher cost) and with a guild donating the mats, they should be able to get quite a lot. Furthermore, they're just going back to their ideology of your talent choices should matter, the only difference is now there are legitimate reasons to choose other talents opposed to X talent is best 99% of the time. With that being said, all the other disappointments annoy me though (granted I wouldn't say gamebreaking except maybe tanking and gear>skill change depending on how much).
@Vyomesh839
@Vyomesh839 8 лет назад
Supply and demand will probably mean that in the first few weeks these will be fairly expensive. But it will go down as more players will do inscription, or with guilds donating mats to their scribes to make tomes.
@Lawliet127
@Lawliet127 8 лет назад
They actually removed the feast talent swap item and replaced it with a tome. Its basically just another item you have buy now like a potion or a flask. Swapping on the fly sounded nice though. And when they made it so you could only swap in rested xp areas, all the "top tier" guilds would definiteley send all their members out, have the respec, then come back in. Raiders definiteley want to be the best they can in a fight typically. Not, "sorry guys I'm gonna really suck this fight and a couple more fights down the line"

@Terestrasz

I don't mind attunements - if it's like dungeon runs, hello dungeon finder. The biggest problem I had with the attunements before was the fact that once you finished, there was *no* reason to go back and do them again to help the hundreds of people who you left in the dirt - since after all, you have your tier x stuff. Why on earth are you going to run back and do Karazhan for stuff a tier below you? You get essentially no rewards for your effort! And if it was a single-player quest chain, then all the better - you get to do it by yourself. Say what you will horde players, I got trial of blood done with only a group of three people - during that time, I could have done jailbreak, yes, but that's how long it would take just to get a damn group going to BRD. Seriously. *NOBODY*, and I repeat, *NOBODY* Wanted to do Jailbreak. ONce you were done, everyone *HATED* that thing *SO MUCH* that you had to catch a group as it formed, and those people were *not* going to go back and do it again. The playerbase would quickly declare themselves "done" with something and refuse to do it again even though others needed it. (Like our hunters. Our hunters were raiding BWL in UBRS stuff and Vendorstrike cause hunter gear never dropped, meanwhile we go into MC and toss out an entire set of Felheart and two fucking Valor chestplates because Golemagg kept fucking dropping it....)
@Terestrasz
@Terestrasz 8 лет назад
It depends for me in all honesty. STuff you can accomplish with a dungeon finder? No biggie - The issue I had in TBC was that everyone got so burned out on my server that I wound up falling behind just cause I couldnt' find any groups. (They would form once a month.) Stuff you can accomplish single-player like a quest chain? No biggie again. It's not "hard"... just tedious. A lot of people forget the hardest part of Vanilla WoW was getting people to do do what you wanted. Managing 40-60 people in a guild gave our GM Grey hairs. Rebuilding after a clique left the guild and doing Jailbreak and LBRS 5-man or attunement web for the *FIFTEENTH TIME* was a headache. (Since think of it this way - I have Black Temple gear. I ran Karazhan 8675309 times, nothing there drops for me. It's a waste of time for me to run it even if some of the events aged well.)

Well... this just came out: "Specialization System Changes Characters can now change between any of their specializations at most any time for a progressive gold cost. Action bar configurations are saved for each specialization. As a result, Dual Specialization has been removed. Characters can queue up as any role that is available to their class and will automatically switch to the suitable specialization when entering the Dungeon, Raid, Battleground, or Arena without any gold cost. For example, a paladin might be questing as Retribution but queue up in Dungeon Finder as a Tank. When the paladin enters the dungeon, they will automatically switch to Protection."
@Rhodair
@Rhodair 8 лет назад
It's been like that since Alpha. Preach mentioned it also in his video about the regeant requirement for the talents, mentioning how it's actually easier to change specializations than individual talents now, so you could have a fury aoe spec or arms single target spec. Many classes won't have type of spec option available, though, since dual spec is gone and you can't just save 2 versions of the same spec anymore.
@pldcanfly

Good video preach. As a dirty casual I don't think many of these will affect me greatly, though I can definitely understand why it may bother some players a lot. Overall though I get the impression that the pro's outweighs the cons in Legion. I'm pretty hyped. Overall how do you feel about end game solo content? That's what I'm most interested in.

@unixtreme
@unixtreme 8 лет назад
That was the philosophy in previous expansions "the game is getting easier but the pros outweight the cons" everybody was hyped until 3 months after the expansion we all realized it was shit... Making things easier (like tanking) doesn't help anyone, not even the casual, hell I'm now a casual myself but theres literally 0 sense of achievement in wow, it's turned into a massive theme park where you just go in, follow the rails and "have fun". That content is as dull as a COD campaign, you clear it with no effort whatsoever, zero skill, zero gear as its thrown at our faces, zero choices as they don't matter anymore and... then what? Then you unsub and think "that was a good investment"?
@jonnyswift1646
@jonnyswift1646 8 лет назад
unixtreme I agree that dulling things down to compensate for some players is the wrong idea,but i think that there is still some challenging and effort requiring content, it's just a matter of is it the content you like and are you willing to give the effort it takes to reach that content let alone complete it.
@hifgames7076
@hifgames7076 8 лет назад
I thought the beginning of warlords was awsome. I liked the leveling. I liked the story. I loved Highmaul. I even liked the endgame the first couple of months. Zones were busy and I had loads of things to travel around and do. IMO I think one of the biggest reasons warlords went to shit was because all that endgame they'd made became outdated in a couple of months. We were "over-awarded" and flushed with mats/gold/currencies and gear so quickly the whole endgame they'd build became pointless and suddenly we were left with nothing. Then happens 6.2 with no additional content and we're screwed. The content they'd build for WoD wasn't completely shit. It was just pointless, and they didn't put in enough effort to fix/add new endgame. I'd say make mats/gold/currencies/gear harder to get and we'd have a longer lasting game. Make mobs/quests/dungeons/bosses/raids more difficult and we'll have a more fun game. Mix the 2 and we're good.

What's the problem with locking off flying? I thought it was a great choice to have flying locked unless you really want it. Flying is not required to do anything, why should it be optained freely then?
@sweptay
@sweptay 8 лет назад
I think the problem he had with it is that there was specific amount of things you needed to do to unlock it. Whereas I think he wanted something like "Complete 6 out of this list of 10 achievements and you unlock flying." Where the achievements are spread across different content. At least that's how I understood he wanted it. Could be wrong.
@FruchteisMitErdbeer
@FruchteisMitErdbeer 8 лет назад
Gary Rice Yeah I guess, I just don't really understands why he keeps on saying that blizzard forces us to do that content, when really flying is not required at all. For Wod I actually thought the sollution was great, no flying unless you really wanted it.
@renancza
@renancza 8 лет назад
He even stated that himself, before flying was added to WoD, that there was no need to fly for anything. He doesn't even care about anything else in the game other than hardcore group activities, so it doesn't really surprise me that he whines about having to play the game outside of these activities.
@FruchteisMitErdbeer
@FruchteisMitErdbeer 8 лет назад
Renan Czajkowski But he doesn't have to? As far as I know there is still no reason in WoD to fly for anything. And if you really wanted to you can always just use the feather,
@renancza
@renancza 8 лет назад
FruchteisMitErdbeer True, he doesn't have to and in fact he still didn't unlock it, last I heard. Question is, if he doesn't care about it and it doesn't make a decisive difference, why would he put it in a top 5 dissapointments? It's just like not wanting to have a car, being perfectly happy with a bycicle, but keep whining about how hard it is to get money to buy a car.

I think if Legiondaries were just "super epics" without that unique Orange item text I'd be totally fine with them. I'm cool with the cloak and ring in the past 2 expansions but these are seriously watering down the word "legendary".
@SerialNightmare
@SerialNightmare 8 лет назад
I can honestly only agree with the first sentence here. The cloak and ring, while they DID require the player to complete a rather long and arduous quest chain, they still didn't have the feel of a legendary. In MoP, when you went to the shrine, nearly every single player at level cap had one. At that point it's basically just another "super epic" as you said. The same is true with the ring in WoD. Rewind back to WotLK.. you only saw a small number of people on your server running around with Shadowmourne, or the hammer from Ulduar. In TBC, I've only seen one hunter in game in my entire WoW life to have that Thoridal bow. Even back in TBC, I saw maybe 2 (at most) Sulfuras, and I never saw Thunderfury until WotLK.. Hell, I'm pretty sure that even the Cata legendaries were more rare and difficult to obtain. Basically legendaries have become glorified epics.. I wouldn't be surprised if Blizzard just up and deleted grey/white/green items altogether, and basically made blue the new green, purple the new blue and orange the new purple.. it's basically what's happening. Hell, back in vanilla it was hard as fuck just to get epic items, let alone one of the legendaries. Now you get rng reroll epics from quest rewards and drops off mobs. These "welfare legendaries" seem to take drastically away from the sense of accomplishment one felt when acquiring a legendary in the past. How special and rare is that item you got when there are 5 other people in your guild that got the same thing within the week you got yours? How special do you really feel about having that ring and cloak knowing that 90% of your server also has it? People have forgotten what it used to be like when you'd be stopping into a major city to clear bags, hit the AH, maybe do a few profession things between zone changes while levelling, and happen across BillyBadAss with and even just a handful of epics, maybe not even fully geared.. It would inspire a player to do greater things than what I can only compare to the old TBC daily quest farming.. Tedious, somewhat grindy, but in the end, a lot of mindless farming.

@acegamestv
@acegamestv 8 лет назад
Its true, but the words effect on your ears is second to the item's effect in game. The recent legendaries have been monumental. This ring especially. This thing literally breaks the encounters, and is easily the strongest item ever in the video game. It feels legendary when you use it, but perhaps less so as you are trying to get it? Regardless, I agree calling these items legendaries is further diluting the meaning, but am very excited about how much of an impact they have on the gameplay of a class. Their power collectively seems INSANE, but of course that will be in a time when you will have 2-3 on at once.

Quick question for you +Preach Gaming: With all the changes in gathering professions, is it still viable to take two crafting professions? It seems like gathering professions have become significantly more useful and in-depth, and I am wondering which two professions to level in preparation for Legion. Is it still a good idea to have two crafting professions and use the auction house to obtain the resources needed to craft items? Furthermore, which two professions would you recommend? I want to take engineering for the fun widgets and such, but what second profession would you recommend for Legion?

It is "forcing" people to unlock it. Indirectly, but still forcing. There will always be at least 1 friend, if not more, in a circle who is the "lazy" one, that thinks it's stupid to run around on the ground in any given zone. Well if he gets it, anyone else who wants to run around with that player is going to need the flying as well, or the flyer will have to sit around and wait for the non-flyer to catch up. Not to mention the effect it has on the already practically non-existent world pvp. Flying everywhere has put the nail in the world pvp coffin.

Every expansion has it's ups and downs. The more memorable the expansion is, the better yet that's mostly up to the person's tastes. I could list a few of them disappointments from each expansion. Those are *bolded* have a huge impact to the game. Some of these are also based on Community Complaints. Vanilla: *Class Balancing*, Pretentious Quest Traveling across worlds by foot. (There's always that one quest where it makes you go to one place to turn in something only to make you backtrack to where you were last given the quest to actually finish it.), Horde having only Shamans, and Alliance having Paladins. Nobody wants to do Maraudon. TBC: Hellfire Peninsula, Mu'ru, Daily quests that had to make you go travel places, Hellfire Peninsula, Rogues spamming need for Glaives, The Fel Reaver, and lastly Hellfire Peninsula. Wrath: *Overpowered Death Knights*, Naxx revamp (Which removed a lot of old gear and even the removal of the Legendary Medivh Staff questline and item and also The Ashbringer.), *GEARSCORE*, Looking for Dungeon. Cata: Dragon Soul, Heroics made Easy for Namby Pamby Casuals, Vashj'ir's Underwater Physics (Questline was good tho), *LOOKING FOR RAID*, Tol Barad, WHY YOU NO REWORK FIX SILVERMOON?! (Don't answer that I know why, but it still sucks.) MoP: *HIATUS*, Monks trouncing everyone in PvP, Dailies (Before Isle of Thunder), Patch 5.3, Ordos (He wasn't easy or hard.. but very forgettable), Legendary Cape (I mean it looks nice and all.. but seriously that whole questline was just abysmal.), WTF DO YOU MEAN GARROSH IS GETTING A TRIAL!? WoD: *GARRISON*, *PATCH 6.1*, *TWO PATCHES*, *THREE RAIDS*, *ASHRAN* *APEXIS-FUCKING-CRYSTALS!* (You seeing the pattern here? And these are just the problems the Majority have with WoD.)

I just hate things in wow that make it hard to get back into... like the legendary ring coming off a break everyone is wanting you to be 730 with ring I can understand gearing up but I'm limited with the ring part making me wait weeks on weeks of RNG! I just hope legion doesn't have any crappy stuff like this
@Terestrasz
@Terestrasz 8 лет назад
RNG is a total bitch. When I saw some of those WoW videos talking about how in MoP he kept getting gear raining from the sky, I simply asked "WTF you smoking?" because I would run dungeons for weeks and not get a single drop. Heck, you know how WoD gives you that guaranteed loot? I've broken it - I've walked out of entire dungeon runs with nothing.
@acegamestv
@acegamestv 8 лет назад
Only takes 5 weeks average to get the ring btw. Would take around that long just to get geared up fully to a level where the ring is actually needed. What you are describing is PEOPLE making it hard for you to come back. People in this game have very unfair expectations about a lot of things, and that's mostly because they themselves are too inept to be able to carry the group they are creating. Instead, focus on finding a guild of like-minded people who want to grow as a community and as characters in a video game. When you do, you'll never feel that way again. Regardless, Legion will indeed have a lot of progressive systems you need to keep ahead of. The artifact power system will be very important for maximizing your character's potential. And then of course acquiring Legendaries too. I can easily see pugs requiring a legendary on anyone who joins or something like that.
@Terestrasz
@Terestrasz 8 лет назад
acegamestv Are you assuming it's the final step? Because it took me far longer than five seeks to get the ring. And I imagine that it depends a *lot* on things like say, time played per day (for Apexis things), timing (Apexis again), and RNJesus. (I saw people bitching it took four weeks to get 15 Tomes of Chaos. I had 15 in two weeks.)
@acegamestv
@acegamestv 8 лет назад
Terestrasz Yes, sorry I was talking about the actual legendary ring. I realize now it can be confusing since you have a ring itself the whole time, but since he was talking about Tomes, I didn't think twice. The early parts are very very quick now though. No RNG involved in that. You can get everything prior to 6.2's questline done in 4 resets easily if you know what you are doing. Then from there it takes 5 weeks average. I've done it in 4 weeks a few times, but also 6 weeks a few times. Anyone saying it takes 4 weeks to get 15 tomes isn't killing all the bosses. I usually get 8~ a week. The difference is, getting 7 a week can mean an entire extra week at the end. The times it took me 6 weeks, I was missing out on just 1 tome.

Gotta add the reduced camera zoom to one of these features. Thanks Blizzard your logic is truly infallible.

By no way am I a Blizz fanboy or love what's coming in Legion, in fact I deeply hate some of the retarded PvP changes and what not, BUT I have to say this, and I know a lot of people will disagree with me: "Preach and other people like him are the main reason why the game has been progressively going downhill". Now let me explain what I mean by that. This whole "I want everything simple and easily accessible but at the same time complex and deep" mentality is simply unreasonable. My points: 1) The talent's can only be changed in towns or by items you get from insription: Preach and a lot of people hate this idea, I personally love it, giving the player free talent swaps at will when OOC is like giving them the full talent table and helps ruin class identity more than it already is, I still remember the days of old talent trees and having to use your secondary spec if you wanted a quick "talen swap for trash", I still remember going to class trainers and paying gold(which had a lot of value back in the day) just to be able to change your talent, and you know what? We had fun and we didn't cry about it and how it will affect our raiding. 2) No flying was by far one of my favourite features in WoD, frankly I was kinda disappointed when they added it in later, wanna know what happened for the first time in ages? I saw players in leveling zones waaay past the first few weeks/months of WoD, was able to group up with them socialize and hell even form a few pvp groups that way, after they added flying Draenor is a more of a Ghosttown than it previously was(due to garrisons) people speed leveling through WoD simply complete their objective, fly off, turn in, rinse and repeat. 3) Waaah waah, Me want more content, but not just any content, give me content that I enjoy, cause I matter. To that I can only say:"Well sucks I guess?", as you've stated you're a PvE-er and PvE-ers always get the worst treatment right? Let's ignore the fact that Blizzard removed PvP gear completely making you fuckwits viable to beat pretty decent PvPers, due to ilvl scaling your most important stats, let's also ignore that the last proper pvp update was an arena in MoP(no I am not counting ashran, it has more PvE elements than PvP) and additionally let's ignore that the whole friggin lifespan of wow PvP has been balanced behind PvE, as the latter was their primary focus. So you guys don't get a few dungeons unlocked before you do a couple of quest big whoop, you used to have to do attunement quests for raids but having to do a couple of quests on each alt will surely be the end of us all?

When you say that alot of people Didn't bother to check out Naxx? Do you mean Vanilla cause the probably would have bothered but it was too hard anyway, it was something rediculous like 4% of all players killed the first boss in naxx vanilla, i would personally like to see that kind of stuff return, although i never played vanilla, at least on live servers, i think the challenging aspect needs to return, otherwise there is no point in getting anything done, it would be too easy, challenge to alot of people brings re-playability and fun.

As an ex-vanilla player (killed everything up to four horsemen in vanilla naxxramas also), I have to say that "shit getting too easy" is already a thing. And it shows. People are not willing to put an effort into something, because they're used to just roflstomp shit and get what they want. Best example is PUG raids. You wipe once or twice, half the raid leaves. It's pathetic. I'd like to see the challenge level of Vanilla to return, but seeing that the majority of the community acts like a spoiled impatient 5 year old twat, it would kill WoW, because like 95% of the players wouldn't be willing to do stuff that way.

You'll love Legion then! They have added a lot of content paths for dedicated players this expansion, and continue to phase out the casual ones in the scope of character progression. LFR and dungeons you can queue for (heroic or under) have very poor gear compared to their more serious counterparts. WoD was disappointing for sure, but a lot of those poor decisions have been rectified so far with Legion, and the casual paths continue to have more and more distance from the serious ones.

What was also cool was that I could be sharing an ability with other people in my class, or different classes. This was back in WoD, so maybe it might have reached a new extreme in Legion. Preach, the frustration of the talent system is extremely relatable. I'm a solo player and I probably changed my talents 5 times in all of Warlords of Draenor, but I've been playing on the beta and the way the talents are situationally divided, I find myself compelled to change them frequently even in an old instance or outdoor content. It definitely needs to be fixed! Also having to use inscription tomes instead of just being able to buy them from a vendor on my mount is far worse lol

Preach, silly question for you. About the talent thing, what is the situation with switching specs in Legion? My main is a Mage, my secondary is priest, and I already swap specs depending on what I'm doing. On the Mage, I'm set up for arcane for single target and fire for AOE, for example. Is it possible that taking a pause before a boss to swap specs, with talents appropriately selected, could save the need for tomes all the time? Or does changing spec not change talents any more?
@ChainedBeastTraining
@ChainedBeastTraining 8 лет назад
+Table I got that. My question is, right now you can have different talents with different specializations. According to what I can find in Legion right now, you can change specializations freely, and among all 3 variations. So one could change talents, freely, by swapping specs.

I am thinking of coming back to WOW for this expansion, its been a few years for me. I loved my Tanking, leveled my little Warrior as a pure tank spec just to prove it could be done. (so many people saying it takes to long slow DPS, what they didn't understand is I could farm an entire area of mobs at once, loot, then move on). My most upsetting change was when they removed block value, I was normally running around with 60% block chance and huge block values (before blowing CDs), which in turn gave me lower HP which made it hard to get raids at the start, once I got a name for tanking raid bosses and blocking most of the damage plus huge shield slam crits getting me higher than some DPS classes plus healers being bored from not needing to heal me, I started getting asked to runs. Plus I used to love farming level 80 5 mans solo using my trusty heal when block trinket. I had a quick look at PTR and saw that so many AOE tank abilities have been introduced (AOE Revenge WTF) I used to pride myself on AOE tanking as a warrior as it was hard work now its just a couple of talent points so defiantly makes it look like they have dumbed tanking down which is upsetting. Also Prot spec appeared to be a lot of damage while I was questing, 1 shotting some lvl 90 mobs with a revenge or sheild slam (I stopped after Panda so thats why I am 90). And I saw something today that shows that Druids can now hybrid their specs, so have more healing while in tank. OMG thats huge looks like they will start solo'n level 110 5 mans and leave my little gnome just crying in the corner saying "I used to be able to do that"

I kinda like the pre-requisite system. Since attunements and shoulder reps were taken out of the game, there wasn't actually much in the game people had to WORK for anymore. That's what I appreciated about the warlords flying grind. It was first thing in a long time that required actual effort and perseverance to do. That on top of getting artifact power, I find it a welcoming change. It may not to be the most fun thing on the planet, but I think the work to put in to achieve something is something thats been missing from the game.

Here's my thoughts on the flying pre-requisite. They put a lot of dev time into the content, we're not going to like all of it and they're now hiding things that are not completely vital but extremely useful behind that content. I'm fine with that, only because I know about it in advance. When WoD was released they said "There will be no flying" and I held them to that, in fact I didn't even really care, it put more people on the ground to see them visually and the flight paths are pretty decent. Then they released flying and locked it behind an achievement. I was furious and I was only furious because they didn't tell us beforehand. Think of it this way. You complete Highmaul and BRF easy as pie, it's only a week or so until HFC comes out. Now they introduce tablet fragments, apexis shards, empowered stones and boss loot tomes as part of a brand new months long quest chain similar to MoP's own Cloak quest chain which at it's end gives us a very powerful Legendary Item. It's not necessary but it's very very very useful for raiding. You'd probably be furious too. I skipped a lot of the flying pre-req stuff because I didn't care for what it made me do so I didn't get it retro-actively. I didn't mind that it asked me to do those things but it made me go all the way back to the beginning to do it. Kind of like how leveling a skill from scratch without the AH made you go all the way back to Dun Morogh or Elwynn Forest. It's just a lot to take in and an overall huge pain in the arse when I'm already spending my time preparing for something more important in my eyes.

One reason why they have made it to where you have to go and do other stuff in order to unlock certain things is because of the fact that people kept complaining about the fact that you could do everything just from your garrison. So they made it to where you cant just hangout inside your class hall all day and instead you have to go out and do stuff and explore the world in order to get stuff done for your class hall.

The blocking content part made me actually laugh. Having played FF14 for so long and experiencing the blocking of flying (in Heavensward) until the zone was explored (with parts of the zone where flying was needed to get to) and making the player play the story for dungeons was very entertaining for me. I originally thought it was a bad idea, but playing through it was much more fun than expected. However, to me the story in FF14 is presented infinitely better than in WoW, but that is due to newer technology thus making questing more fun.

When Ion was talking about players still dying to mythic Archimonde, I don't think he was referring to the skill ceiling of tanking at all. He was talking about the overall power arc as players obtained better gear and the content was being steadily nerfed with valor upgrades, etc. Someone was complaining it was currently too easy, people were killing bosses in 20 seconds, etc, and he was saying that it may be easy for you, but people are still progressing who don't find it easy, and he is right. He was basically defending the power curve, not talking about player skill ceilings. Now, I think they also did see some problems with the power curve being so exponential and removing primary stats from jewelry and such will reduce this curve. Someone mathed it out and estimated that in WoD, players became 4x as powerful over the course of the tier, while in Legion they will only be 3x. All of this has nothing to do with tanking or a skill ceiling. The pruning is a different topic.

Several of these are, in my mind, good changes. The wider specification of characters using legendaries and talents I think is particularly fun. I think the tanking change was meant for players like me. As a non-tank, I raid with a tank who is complete shit, and not someone that I'm not likely to be rid of anytime soon. Regularly I end up wiping multiple times on a boss that I should be able to beat just because my tank screwed up and often in a way that unless I also played his spec regularly I don't have even a vague idea how. No other role places that much importance on the basic gameplay skill of a single person with no ability for another player of that role to pick up the slack, so taking power out of their hands and putting it in the healer's means that the rest of the raid is less likely to suffer when they don't know how to use it. As a tank, I have a lot that I can use to effectively improve my performance, but I lack the skill to use much of it. On some fights periods of high damage where AM or CDs are useful are obvious, but on many more there's just long periods of time where I feel like I just press Shield Block on CD because I don't know a better time to, and rarely press any of my defensives, pressing all of them at once when I do because I'm suddenly at 20% health with no idea why. I'm fine with losing access to some of the ability to improve if I was a better player since unlike DPS/Heals where using my resources ineffectively just means I don't perform as well, if I don't play well enough as a tank I'm just dead, and if I play well above and beyond what's needed I don't feel much difference, only the healers do.

It's not just about encouraging people to experience different content. It's also about a reward system. People want the things they like to be part of their character progression. For many WoW players reward makes or kills a feature, regardless of how it plays. And then comes the balancing - if one way of progressing is easier / more efficient than other, then many will do it, regardless of whether they like it or not. And you can't make each alternative equal either, as people differ in their expectations regarding difficulty and time commitment itself. In the end, what people like or not is only one factor affecting player decision on what to play. That's just our complex psychology.

Preach, regarding tanking, I recognise and appreciate your frustration. Anybody who's spent any moderate amount of time viewing your content will know you are a top class tank anybody would KILL to have on their team. In my experience of the game (albeit less than yours, I'm a Cata baby who took a break just before WoD until a couple of months or so ago and only just experienced their first true raid just last night in fact) that is an extremely rare commodity.. However, it is also my experience that players rush through old content (levelling dungeons etc) like nobody's business (I understand a steady pace is important but nowadays your pause for half a second to scratch your nose and you've suddenly fallen behind.) They feel like they're invincible just because they're in heirlooms or they're experienced and content is too easy for them. However, it is important to recognise that while an old game WoW is constantly being fed new content to keep it fresh and there ARE still new players coming into the fold. How do new players learn their craft best? By DOING. A DPS needs to actually DPS in a scenario where things might matter. If they screw up, they need to discover HOW they screwed up and what they need to watch out for in future. This is more-so important for healers and vitally essential for tanks. So why this long essay that to the less patient person may have appeared to be leading nowhere (I do have a tendency to waffle and rant :P)? With instances (namely PUGs) in the state they're currently in there is nowhere for new tanks to truly learn their craft anymore. Is this the players fault, or blizzards fault? This could be argued forever but the best answer is both. There's no going back now. Blizzard made changes for better or worse and players are the way they are and there's certainly no changing them. So as a result of all this the main point (which maybe Bliz also recognise) is that new tanks should not be punished for not being given the opportunity to truly learn during those 100 levels. You can theory craft till you're blue in the face but in the end it's always real world practice and application that leads to growth and improvement.

In the legacy for burning crusade you said one of the best parts was the insane amount of progression which seems similar to this suramar stuff. Am I wrong?

If charges limit the continuous DPS artificially, does it means that cooldown, cast time, energy cost, and instant/free procs for spells that otherwise would be uninteresting weren't artificially limiting the continuous DPS? The continuous DPS was artificially limited from the beginning of the game. You would just refresh your DoTs and then spam the top DPS spell you have. Cooldowns force you to make the best out of your spell, waiting for the best opportunity to use it without wasting time waiting for these opportunities. Cast time force you to consider the near futur as you would waste time if you can't complete the casting in time. Mana force you to manage your rythm on the long run, avoiding to lack ressources when you need them. Energy and Charges are short time management, a mix of cooldown and mana. The all randomness is the only part that is bad.

I've got to admit I've never understood the item colour thing. A cool item is a cool item... it actually brings to mind vanilla, when you were using blues or greens because they had a special quality, ignoring the colour. I see this as the same thing, and I welcome it - it was awesome to find some new thing or trinket with big impact to your character.

Having a prerequisite is a good thing in my opinion. You want flying? Then work for it, don't just expect to have it handed to you.

I completely agree that the control that randomness has over dealing damage is awful, I'm sick of my opener being half value cause I happened to not get the procs I require.... And as an Arcane Mage, half my damage is bound to my burst cycle so pull to pull this can be very frustrating, I know it is probably too late but I dearly hope they don't release more Soul Capacitors. Not to mention that the aforementioned trinkit completely gutted an entire content system for any player that wanted more than just a gold rating (Challenge Modes/Soul Cap).

Understand that this is a themepark game - celebrate if you get any choice at all. Linear, easy to play, clear rewards is the philosophy here.
