Second to last clip still resonates because Holland Reynolds (the girl who crawled over the line) had dedicated that race to her coach who had been diagnosed with ALS and crawling across the line also gave her team the state title.

Unless you've been there, it's nearly impossible to describe what an "outer body experience" it is to be so close to the finish line, & yet, feel you are in a vacuum forcing you to the ground or to just stop moving. This video, although inspiring, is a sad reminder of having a sub 3 hour marathon similarly slip away from me - already having run prior times of 1:17 for a Half & 34 for 10K. It really becomes personal.

I agree running at that speed takes a lot of hard work mentally and physically. Just pushing to the limit until you have nothing left that's what I love about running ! that's the beauty of it.

I have personally experienced this before, but nobody has had to pick me up for it except once. Cross Country is a mental sport, but your body has to be trained to take the pain.

Dang, that's a lot of determination, sucks that they hit such walls at the end of those races. I was in a meet where in one of the girl heats, the leader, who is a really good runner and is famous in my district pass out like 100m from the finish. It was really unfortunate for her for that race.

I ran cross country for all 4 years of high school. And let me tell you that finish straight away always made me feel like my legs were going to fall off. Cross country is such an exciting and rewarding sport but, it really takes all your energy to pull through and cross that finish line after running for miles 😅

never understood such a stupid rule.... a child is in need of help... and you cant touch them or they DQ and you DQ if other runner.. they not going win... help them wtf! i have actually witnessed something pretty inspiring, girl tripped fell hard right before the chute... and the cheer of crowd to keep going lifted her up and across..... chills!

are people allowed to help one another during the race when that happens because I would help them but I don't want to be disqualified.

XakXakGaming you are absolutely allowed to help them finish. Im a sophomore in high school ive been running for about 6 years and been on the varsity team for four years. I tore a muscle on the lower part of my leg (around the calf area) at sectionals last year. Felt it tear around the 2.25 mark and just had to grit it out but the finish was at the bottom of a down hill and I couldn’t support myself going down. And fell hard. A kid I didn’t even know helped me finish the race and we’ve stayed in touch since then.

The point of a race is to run it as fast as possible. Any sort of distance race, when pushed to its limits, will have something like this. It might not be a long race compared to a marathon, but the amount of pain these athletes put themselves through is insane.
