To be honest, so many people associate the various leg flicks as being "Tango" now, it can be difficult to tell what you are watching. True ballroom Tango is the very staccato style, not looking at each other, mostly in traditional hold. The passion is more ferocious than seductive. In true Argentine tango, the bodies are closer together, forming an A shape and, though there can be leg flicks, etc, it is much more intimate. Then, in the middle you have the "Latin-American" style show/stage Argentine Tango where the partners bodies are further apart allowing for all the fancy legwork, the lifts, spins and so on. It is also much more obvious in its sexuality. Though it isn't the Argentine Tango as the people of Argentina know it, it is still thrilling to watch and those people should be proud that their national dance has given birth to such a popular and well loved style! Argentina, thank you for both dances, the mother and her more flamboyant daughter!
The 2nd couple in the black where my best the story just stood out for them they did a perfect job in telling that story. Although the end couple where excellent Those 2 stood out for me.
They should have specified and said, "Argentine Tango". I was expecting both. Argentine is my personal favorite because of the precision of the kicks and flicks also the focus the two have on each other.
Dear , for me these not the tradicional tango... is more electronic than tha true tango... but thay don't dance bad. Only is not the real dance. If you want ... you can search " tango en Argentina" and watch a lor of videos! ( sorry ,i'm from Argentina ,my English is not very well)
Love your choices....number two were my favorite. For the people saying it was aweful and that isn't Tango...these Tango routines are being danced by young adults on a competition show called "So You Think You Can Dance". They are not professional Tango dancers but do a great job for only having one week to learn the dance routine. I'm a big fan of this show and I think they do an amazing job.
They may not be professional TANGO dancers, but they are professionally trained dancers who have studied ballet including pas de deux, and probably modern and jazz for years. Their partnering skills also reflect possible ballroom experience, or even study of the showbiz idiom of nightclub "Adage". This show highlights their extreme versatility, with challenges over the range of dance genres. These couples certainly rise to the challenge.
I agree, even though I have never been to Argentina...I love the dance and it does not require all this nonsense just a passion and a way of walking/dancing/thinking that has a beauty all its own.
New to tango I've been watching Tango videos for 2 hours and can see that these performances whilst technically competent do not have the soul of tango, the buildup of emotion, the (for lack of a better word) tango of two becoming one then celebrating it!
#4 Karen and Victor are stunning, and my fave of these clips. But I have to say I LOVED Allison's red dress, and the steps at 0:57 are subtle brilliance.
Although I'm from Russia where bears are walking on the street :), I agree entirely on your opinion. Tango is too sensitive to be only "TV show" or "all-stars-performance". Tango demands not only high-class dance technic. First of all this dance needs the feelings. It needs the passion. I spent a last two hours trying to find something and everywhere I saw only BS TV show - bright light, loud music, but no feeling between partners. So sadly...
Mucho dirán que no es tango pero lo que esta a simple vista no necesita anteojos, la sincronización del baile, la pasión, el fondo, el escenario, es lo que lo hace maravilloso, para mi simplemente genial.
Love Ivison! glad #4's on the list, that one's pretty underrated. hmm, personally I liked Chelsie's tango with Joshua more than the one with Mark. but I totally agree on the no. 1 pick, that def is the best tango ever on the show!
It is the most emotional dance. Sexy, no man or woman should be without it before deciding if they could be partners! If they cannot move to "the dance" in my experience they cannot make love!
