I just took care of some door lock actuators on a customer's car. I've done quite a few of them and it's extremely satisfying to make them things start working. Fortunately on my 89 Fox body they haven't gone bad yet but I know it's coming. Heater core is very intimidating but in reality it's just a bunch of screws. Keep up with everything and take your time it's definitely a DIY project. I've had the unfortunate pleasure of replacing about six or seven of them now.

It's not just a bunch of screws. If you take the dash out in hot temperature and then try to install it in colder temps you will have major fitment issues. The dash needs to come out and go in at the same temp. Believe it or not the dash will shrink if it's aloud to get cold, or if its left out too long. When it was installed it had a moisture content in the new materials. Over time those materials dry out. Normally it would shrink but because it's screwed in place it does not shrink. Until it's removed and left out too long, or taken out and aloud to get cold.

Wow they changed alot in 86. My 1980 Capri's heater core takes under an hour. Remove hoses, remove 2 glove box screws, remove 2 core retaining plate screws and push core out.

Ahhh, didnt think of that one. Nope, this 80 Capri is bare bones, no A/C. That explains alot. Now I just have problems with blend doors on 90's Explorers and Rangers...

If you're looking at a Mustang 5.0 to purchase, the FIRST place you should be looking is at the upper and lower front shock towers under the hood. They have a tendency to rust out REALLY bad, and have killed many 5.0's. It's something that FORD forgot to do properly (Corrosion resistance).

Nice video...had a 89 lx and done the heater core myself. It's about 8 hrs from start to finish. If you have a stang I found the less options less trouble. My had 247000 kms and no leaks all original engine and was shit hauled most of its life. A place anyone should look for rust when buying one is between the hinges... the Sun roof drain causes it and will totally ruin your car. Structure will be weakened alot because of it and with an accident I wouldn't want to be in it with that section weakened.

Matt Vineis not mine. I have a 92 LX 5.0 my seats look good except for the driver side foam on the lower left seat I’m rather lucky when I comes to that . My 92 emerald green LX 5.0 5 speed Is not missing one piece all the way down to the year coded spark plug wires which I do not use I just save for car shows . And everyone should remove their complete trim because you’d be shocked what is underneath. I was lucky my car is garage So it was just tons of dust and dirt no rust. And if you have to get your windshield and hats glasses remounted And caulked

My Capri Ghia, which came with A/C also, had the A/C pump removed by previous owner. Since I've owned it, I've changed all the fuses, and the heater is just non responsive. The tubes to the 2.3 are cut, but shouldn't the heater still kick on? I slide the switch and absolutely nothing happens. Granted it sat in spiderville grass stuck under a 5th wheel, I'm kind of terrified of what will come out of those vents. Any suggestions on what else I should look for to get the heater core at least making noise?

Weekend warrior/daily.... Have to choose, can't have both. A daily that you race on weekends will always get smoked by the true week end only cars. If you make it all week end warrior then daily driving is sucky. Just do like I did and by 2 mustangs. I have one for the track and one for the street ;) THAT is how to play weekend warrior/daily lol

Top-five is adequate, I like to do the hatch door striker bushings so you don’t have any rattles going on. Replacing exhaust hangers, lower control arm bushing’s urethane bushings for shocks new struts . And always change your transmission oil no matter if it’s a manual automatic. Rear end fluid and obviously the basic fluids under the hood. And a standard tuneup And clutch if needed. After that that’s a different story.ps Fan clutch

You left out the driver seat upper bolts breaking off causing the seat back to lay flat. Or the floor pans cracking along the rear driver seat mounts. Or the glove box handle coming apart and shooting the springs out or the HVAC controls on the earlier four eye cars breaking because they are cable controls etc...... Way more than just five issues but with all that said I love my 1982 GT that is a one owner car because I am the only owner of it. Been through the majority of every issue you can think of with the FOX. My car has been through many different set ups and right now it is blown apart getting upgraded again. It has been 351w powered for years, the original 5.0 is long gone which it had it's own issues namely the earlier 5.0 loved to break crankshafts, beside of FOX that is powered by a 351W is way more fun to drive than the 5.0 (302) because of the ton of torque.

how about the climate control melting behind the switch? this is due to (what i have been told) the intake fan becoming clogged and dirty forcing the fan motor to overwork, and over heat the wires thus melting them and burning out the resistor too.

i just finished my heater core and holy hell. took out the whole dash and drained the ac and disconnected the accumulator to be able to drop the entire ac box just to be able to get to the two screws in the back on top heater core lid. Ford could have designed it better by not having those two stupid screws on the back.
@starbattles1
@starbattles1 6 лет назад
Congrats on the heater core. Way to man up and get r done. They designed it that way so you have to take it to a dealer and pay to have it done. Super costly because so much has to be removed. Glad to see you got it done. I have done a few. I know it's a pain, but well worth the experience. Now you know about all the workings behind that dash. Next time it will be easier.

@rondyechannel1399
@rondyechannel1399 5 лет назад
Why didn't Ford engineer it like my 83 F250. About six or eight screws open a door behind the glove box, unhook the hoses. Lots of cars have this unholy hell of a design where it's buried in the middle of the dash. They should build all cars so the wear items can be accessed and repaired easily. They will wear out. They want you to be frustrated and intimidated at the cost of the repair so you walk from the service dept. to the sales office.
