Top 5 Historic Home Tours For Sale

How on earth could we ever choose only five of our favorite Historic Home tours ever? Well, the truth is, we couldn't. We don't argue much, but boy did the fireworks start when the two of us tried to mutually decide on a top cut! At first we were going to give you a top ten, but that just seemed to make it harder!
In truth, each of us had a top 20. And even THEN they weren't the same twenty! How do you compare the poingnancy of Longwood to the spledor of Stanton Hall? How can you not include the cultural history of Bontura or the family history of Green Leaves? Where does a Victorian cottage fit when comparing it to a Greek Revival mansion? SO-ground rules were set!
First, we decided that we would limit our list to FIVE (time constraints are real). Then, those five all had to still be actively FOR SALE (this took out some top contenders). THEN, with the exception of number one, the list would be in no particular order... and even then there was contention over that first spot.
In short, we did our best! This is as close as we could come to "OUR TOP FIVE HISTORIC HOME TOURS"! We hope you enjoy, and go back and watch these to see if you agree. Did we leave your favorite off? Let us know in the comments!

I can see why you had such a hard time ranking these exquisite homes. Personally, I liked #5 (the first house) the best My realtor friend would say the reason a property isnt selling is that it isnt priced correctly.
@OurRestorationNation
@OurRestorationNation 10 месяцев назад
Well, most of these properties are priced over a million dollars, so the more likely reason is that the buyer pool in their area is very limited. It just takes a while.

Truly a monumental task to come up with such a short list. My favorite is always the one ya'll are currently featuring so I'd never be able to decide. Thanks for doing it for me.

Great video!! So wonderful revisiting these ❣ Ahhh Wigwam you will be my #1 forever! A Queen Anne just came up for sale in Hot Springs Arkansas. I wish the owners would pay you to video this home in your unique style!!

W O W!!! I can see why you two had so much trouble getting them down to 5! But I think you got the last one being the best! If I had the money to buy and keep it up, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it. If they are all unsold, are they occupied? They didn’t appear to be, so why not organize a tour? Yes you may have a few scuff marks or something, but what an opportunity for some people to get to see real American History.

Would love to see more homes in the St Francisville (LA) area featured, as well as those in the rest of LA. Louisiana has tons of antebellum homes but, unfortunately, for a fan like me, most are not open to the public, as they are private. Many that I passed by are getting ready to be restored. (I’ve done the tours on River Road.). Thanks to a book that lists the homes throughout the state, I was recently able to see them from the outside, so could only wonder what they were like inside. I bet the cost of maintenance of these homes turns off a lot of buyers. Also, if there are regulations as to what you can and can’t do to a home, that can also discourage buyers for good reason. While not centering on a house, maybe you can do a video on brown cotton, which is grown in Louisiana and Mississippi. I wasn’t aware of it until I was at the visitor’s center in St Francisville. It’s being revived, and the most beautiful products are being made from it by many local artisans in that area. Don’t forget to pick up your “Angola, Gated Community” tee shirt. Glad I stumbled onto your channel after visiting Natchez twice - once for Pilgrimage. It brings back so many fond memories.

Signal is my fav, too. I have dreams about decorating that place. The details are amazing, and it's grand without being ostentatious. The lines of the interior are delicate...almost feminine, and so graceful. I'm in love! Thank you for this top five. Very fun!

#2 is my #1 hands down! All that woodwork in the center hall is so warm and beautiful and I love all the unpainted doors and window casings. Install some soapstone or Carrara marble countertops in the kitchen and butler’s pantry and it would be absolute perfection ❤️

The Weaver-Dallas house has remained my favorite. It was the black trim/chair rail that truly caught my attention. It was that house that inspired me to finally be bold enough to paint our trim black. The little puppet stage was just an adorable bonus. 💚

Wow! I have to agree with Laine about the Wigwam. The quality and master workmanship in this beauty is breathtaking. The 4 ladies that had this home built had exquisite taste. I would love to know what it would cost today for this much quality. Thanks guys, this was so much fun! ❤️

The Ruthven home was beautiful, I love all the softly colored oriental rugs. The furniture was pretty and the grounds.The Queen Anne in Appalachacola (sp) was a knockout too, that fireplace with that gorgeous green tile was beautiful.

Happy Thanksgiving Laine and Kevin. They are all stunning homes and you have definitely sold me on Natchez, but for me, I prefer the more casual interior fo the Florida home since I would not feel so much pressure to decorate in the high style of the period.

I honestly have a challenging time choosing because these homes are all incredibly beautiful. The architecture along with the furnishings are exquisite. You are spot on when you say they are "spectacular". I wish I had deep pockets.

This was a fun re-visit of these great homes. I agree...so hard to decide! I hope the right people eventually make the purchases with love and vision, and maintain them for future generations. The private parkland is incredible, yet that may intimidate some buyers. I have a hard time keeping up with my 1/3 acre place. Always fun to visit with you two. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! Glad you took a day off. Cheers! :)
