I used to have rubber floormats is my cars to preserve the carpets. My Dad one day asked me, "Why do you have these floor mats? You're just saving the enjoyment of the real carpet for the next owner" I've taken that to heart, including with my fragrances - I just spray whatever I like that day, no matter if it's expensive or cheap. Gym scent? GIT. Grocery shopping? Discontinued Dior Homme Eau. Going for a joy ride? 5 sprays of Xerjoff 17/17 Homme. If you like the cheaper fragrance because it's great, and you love it, then awesome wear that. But don't be precious with the expensive stuff if you want to wear it - don't leave that stuff for your relatives to sort out when you die, in my humble opinion.

The first cologne I ever wore as an early teen in the 90’s was my dad’s bottle of Brut. Wearing Sartorial now gives me those similar vibes. Might pick a bottle of Brut for the nostalgia.

Great video my good man! I'd defo recommend trying to get hold of Vintage Grey Flannel (bottles with the Sanofi sticker on the base) which were made between 1988-95, it blows the current GF out the water and the dry down is pretty close to vintage GIT

My Dad wore Clubman (Canoe is very similar to my nose) and Lilac Vegetal. Talc is present to be sure. I, also, must have a bottle of Brut around to splash on after a tough day-very comforting. If it smells good, wear it-no matter the price.👍

Ok, you've got me real interested. I've ordered Pinaud, Acqua De Colonia Concentrada, and Brut Cologne. I have been yearning for a clean soapy smell. I got curious today and made it over to a local CVS drugstore. They had something called "Lectric Shave." Its designed to be put on BEFORE you shave to soften hairs. Boy does this stuff smell awesome! Its like a quintenssence barbershop, soap-in-a-bottle smell. You just smell clean. It was only 9 bucks! I grabbed some and wearing now. Posting here because I have gotten ideas from comments before.

I've got a big range of Pinaud Clubman including their Bay Rum, British Sterling, classic Old Spice, Paul Sebastian Fine Cologne and C.O.Bigelow Bay Rum on my "dumb dumb reach" shelf. Those are the cheap, easy-to-wear frags for quick errands.

Pinaud and Brute are keepers. I heard a lot of good things about Boucheron pour Homme but I have Jaipur EDP and if it is half as good I'll buy a backup bottle.

It's great to touch upon these cheaper fragrances. Although many of these fragrances perhaps lack longevity from one application compared to more expensive brands. They have a place for a quick refreshing scent after a shave and boom, you get on with the rest of the day. My only regret is that when P&G made Old Spice a cheap fragrance it lost a lot of the subtle spiciness of the original formula.

My aftershave lotion is a 50/50 mixture of Pinaud Clubman and Prorasso Sandalwood in a sprayer. I find the Prorasso just a little too oily. The Pinaud cuts it just the right amount.

Has the Geoffrey Beene Bowling Green been discontinued? The prices seem super high near the £100 level.

Yeah, these are some definite cheapies right here. You can usually find Brut for like $10, I've never tried that one specifically but I quite like the one that comes in the taller glass bottle and the tacky silver plastic plate and chain on it. I love the smell of Clubman too, but it's not a long lasting fragrance which is to be expected for an aftershave. Definitely my go-to aftershave though. In the same ballpark, the original Tabac, Old Spice EDC, and Canoe are also pretty decent for a really low price. They're not gonna blow your socks off if you've tried some much better fragrances, but they have this nice, simplistic old timey vibe that I like every now and then. Plus they're like $10 or less for any one of those I think.

I think the association with Pinaud Clubman aftershave being a barbershop comes from when barbershops used to commonly use Clubman talc (which is still available today), and was used to dust off the back of the neck after a haircut, back in the 70s & 80s. That’s was my experience of it, which lead me to purchase a bottle all these years later!

I'd agree Tabac should be on there, Proraso (Italian aftershave), 4711 and Sir Irisch Moos. Old Spice when I want to go old school sitting sprawled in front up the telly, pants unbuttoned and letting out the occasional belch.

I think that there's a hint of vanilla in Pinaud Club Man, which makes it a notch above Brut for quality and class.

Bowling Green is great for spring...its got a bit of heavier base so it lasts.

I wear Boss Reversed for work everyday . It's about 30 Euros for 120ml and smells great without smelling like everyone else.

Pinaud Clubman is still a staple in US barbershops even today. It's a classic!

Fall 1988 I journeyed up the east coast of Malaysia with a travelling Scotsman for a week. Didn't understand one word.

Bowling Green lasts :30 then gone. No where near Grey Flannel (hours). That's where they messed up. Otherwise it's great. You have to carry the bottle with you to keep it going.
