My wife's uncle gave me a Coleman 200A that he said he never used. it came with a red metal case and everything inside. it is in pristine condition and it is my favorite!
I just picked up a 220f from 1964 it has the sunrise globe. It was in rough shape had a mud wasp nest in it cleaner was sticking generator barely came off without damage. But I got her apart made sure it would hold Pressure . Turned the knob heard her hiss and then that amazing ignition sound. I can’t believe it runs as good as it does.
Dang man! Great lantern collection!!! Just a suggestion, as I needed to do the same…run to Menards, Home Depot, or otherwise, and grab some 1/4” mdf, Masonite, or plywood, and throw it on top of those shelves. You’ll notice a great difference in the LACK of sagging!
Hey, I'm from McDonough, GA. My dad still lives out on Crumbly Road off of 155. I moved from there to eastern Tennessee. Nice Coleman collection. I have a 200A and it's my favorite too. K9POW - Rusty in eastern Tennessee
Geat video, my favorite are the 200a’s also. I actually just converted one to kerosene, a well used 1974. The only drawback I see with them is the price of the original globes. I refuse to buy one that isn’t made here.
Found a 200.. at and antique store going out of business, silver tank/fount and red top. I bought it to use not to collect.. for a friend just incase Powe goes out for few days Aldo bought a catalytic heater to for heat.. after consideration told her try just lantern first because, it is light and heat. Maybe tiny but do throws the heat..
It's been a couple years, and post covid inflation prices seemed to have affected lanterns, as well. While probably as plentiful as 220s, people seem to want to hold onto their 228s. And they're double to triple the price of a 220. I keep stumbling on cheap 220s and have a half dozen. Took me a while to find a 228 for sale, and it cost me way more than the $6 I spent on my last unfired 220.
As far as the 220/228 goes the E and F models are my favorites, the later models with the labels on the collars look like crap, they remind me of a time when smog controls were put on cars in the early 70’s and ruined their performance. Coleman cheapened their lanterns at the same time by going to stamped steel burners replacing the more expensive brass burners in previous models. I think the F is the best looking model, I have a couple dozen myself.
Bill Cosby used to be in charge of wholesome children's education. It's about Fat Albert and the Cisby Kids. That was the best of Bill Cosby. You're showing me something that's wholesome education.
242B is a better bet. Nickel ones are brass founts. No rust lol. Pretty much any model with the nickel finish is brass. Canada made them longer in brass than the US
I just picked up a 1948 242C with a nickel font. Playing around with a magnet I discovered the very bottom of the font is strongly magnetic. Guessing font is brass with that crimped on steel base. I love the looks of the nickel, so classy!
I just picked up my first lantern at a flea market for 10 dollars .. a 286 made in 2000, never used, still in the box, with extra mantle also. I just have to ask because safety has been drilled into me from being a shipyard pipe welder for 40 years. Do you store those lanterns in your home with fuel in them? ... I am assuming that is your home, based on the rug, stairs, etc and not a shed. I read that to stop rusting, lanterns should be stored full to keep as much air as possible away from the metal interiors. ... that is a LOT of fuel to have in your house if those are all full? ... or do you keep them empty for weight and safety reasons?
Question? Im in tx and found a good looking 200a. It is used. And he has several others. For the one in particular he wants 100 for it. Is this a crazy price or is it about right. Also has a silver double mantle says 1950s but needs a couple parts and wants 60. Interested in both but is prices close to right?
How do you know what size mantle your lamp uses. I just found an old 200a still in the box in really nice condition. I’ve been watching videos on how to repair them so I can take it apart and clean it up. I just thought they all used the same mantles. Also where is a good part source. Thank you.
There used to be a isinglass museum in spruce pine NC. It was owned by the schabilion family who also owns emerald village in little Switzerland NC. They had a huge inventory of isinglass mica sheet and parts. You could call emerald village and ask to see if they have any mica sheet.
Great video, fun seeing the different lamps. I've been using diesel fuel in mine for the last bunch of years. Hmm, Whoops. Do you collect stoves? tHanks for the video. (I buy mine each summer at yard sales just filmed one a few weeks back).
