In the book she says, "But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Éowyn I am, Éomund's daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him." Which, for the first time in perhaps a thousand years, gave the witch king a moment of pause and self doubt. He knew well the prophesy, and here before him was one who could technically fulfill it. He had no idea the one beneath his notice was also one who could fulfill the prophesy, and he with a dagger specifically made for the job. The most epic coincidence of all fantasy writing.

Eowyn's scene is much better in the book. In the film, she declares "I am no man" only *after* Merry stabbed the Witch King with the enchanted blade. But in the book, she reveals her identity as a woman and stands strong *before the battle*, even when it seemed she could not possibly win. The way it was written in the book makes Eowyn seem much more admirable/courageous.

Honestly, I think the movie version is better. In the books, Eowyn shows absolutely no fear, and never actually fought him. Eowyn revealed herself as a woman which made the Witch King hesitate, allowing Merry to stick him. In the film, Eowyn is obviously shaking in her boots, but stands up to him anyway, even after trading blows with his mount. THAT is true courage, and a much better portayal.

The scene where Aragorn deflects the knife with his sword was unscripted, in a way. The sctor playing the orc was supposed to throw it past Viggo Mortensen's head, and sound effects would make the clanging sound. But the orc actor's prosthetic makeup made his misjudge his aim, and he threw the knife straight at Mortenson's face. Viggo's natural reflexes are what saved him when he swung the blade and deflected the knife. Otherwise he would've been gravely wounded or even killed. Also, the orc actor licking the knife's blade before throwing it was something the actor did on the spur of the moment. He later said he thought it would add extra menace to his character, and he was right.

Among the verses in William Shakespeare's Macbeth, one of the prophecies that the witch made to Macbeth is this. "It will not fall down to those born by a woman," and "It will not fall unless the forest of Birnam moves on its own and crosses the Dunsinane."There was a prediction that Macduff, who eventually killed Macbeth, was a man who cut off his mothers stomach before he was born, and Malcom's army camouflaged and crossed over, which looks like a forest moving. Even in the Lord of the Rings, Witch-King of Angmar, When he said, "No man can kill me." and Eowyn says, "I am no man." These two episodes show what the two books deal with fatalistic stories have in common.

@kim Jong-unsub It wasn't a requirement that woman be the one to kill him. The Nazgul weren't unkillable but they weren't exactly easy marks either. Their wraithly nature made killing them very challenging. There was a prophecy made long before the events of the film that the witch king of angmar would not meet his end at the hands of man, and it is probably this prophecy to which he was referring when he says that no man could kill him. But more than this, the thing that led him to his end was being stabbed in the leg by a Barrow blade by Merry (even moreso not a man than Eowen). That was a sword purpose built for disrupting the magic that kept wraiths "alive" so to speak. Eowen being a woman had no impact on the effectiveness of her killing blow, she was just aided by the fact that he was already mortally wounded by Merry's strike.

That first one, Aragorn killing the Mouth of Sauron, wasn't in the books, but it was oh so satisfying!!! The book never actually tells us what happens to him in the end, just that after the parlay he rides back through the Black Gate to his armies. He did, however, return more than just Frodo's mithril shirt. Along with it was Sam's sword from the Barrow-Downs that he left with Frodo when he took the ring & Sting after Shelob stung Frodo and Sam thought he was dead, and most everything else orcs took from Frodo when they captured him. So that was nice of them at least.

But glad would he have been to know its fate who wrought it slowly long ago in the North-kingdom when the Dunedain were young, and chief among their foes was the dread realm of Angmar and its sorcerer king. If sauron had retrieved the one ring and won the war of the ring, he probably would have resurrected him seeing as sauron was previously known as the necromancer.

So they kill someone who came to negotiate and its "cool" Just shows how few people really have character and a brain and how easy it is to dehumanize others. Exactly what the Taliban do

KEGO yep. Completely by accident as well. Lurtz’s actor couldn’t see very well at that moment and instead of throwing the knife somewhere else, it went straight for Viggo. Thankfully Viggo was good enough to properly deflect it. Honestly, The amount of crazy things that happen behind the scenes is ridiculous, and especially the amount of injuries they keep going through!!! 😂

The take down of the War Elephant was really nice choreography. One of my favourite scenes. Especially the totally casual style landing right in front of Gimli.

I hated that. I love the movies for their atmosphere, but some of the action scenes I fell mocks the whole story and makes it difficult to enjoy the movies. There's so much to work with here, you could make exceptional action scenes without going over the top with this oliphant scene and the shield "skateboarding". But that's just my opinion.

@@weedidi7144 Hmm I feel it emulated the superhuman grace and magical abilities of elves pretty well. They are meant to be far above humans in their agility and acrobatics.

Great video. I thought Sauron's death and tower crumbling would be the main kill of the whole series.

Perfect order. I was worried as I watched that something other than 2 non-men killing the Witch King would be number 1. Good video, well done.
