Planning on making a video on who you work the less obvious ones? I've caught way more pike per rod hour trolling than casting. Difficult to nail the depth and speed casting in water over 8ft deep, though certain presentations often work. And I've also tended to catch my biggest ones on big lures. My biggest pike was caught on a 13 inch Grandma lure on December 1; and the 9 inch Grandmas and 8 inch Pikies are my go-to' baits for larger pike, even in late spring, here in the Detroit area, where anything 30+ inches long is considered a gator, and 3-footers are very scarce.
I may make a trolling video for Pike but probably not until the fall. I have a little better luck trolling late in the year. We are heading out this weekend to chase some Pike so fingers crossed we get a couple and can have a video out soon.
Are pike good to eat? Currently I only keep trout, walleye, and catfish. I’ve never fished for pike or musky, but I know they’re here in certain spots. I just never put any effort into catching them! I’ve seen filleting videos but don’t recall anyone saying how they tasted compared to other fish. Nice catches! 😊
Would you guys recommend using a mh or H fishing rod for pike? I mainly use mepps size 5 and spoons with 30lb braid. I dont catch monster pike but there are also musky too that bite. Just trying to figure out if a mh would work or if i should use a heavy rod.
@@kenandtrishoutdoors I smoke and can the pike. I have been fishing a lake in Colorado, Stagecoach reservoir. The state encourages keeping the pike. big topwater equals big pike. lots of pint jars of pike in the pantry. really good stuff.
