Make a video of tools Matco rebrands that you’d recommend buying the Matco version instead of the company that makes it, or vice versa. Example the lug nut sockets Astro makes that matco rebrands. I might tell a younger tech to buy the Astro version but curious on your views on stuff like that.Good video, keep it up!
Only issue with the astro version on the lug nut sockets is they have no warranty. One reason I bought the matco version. As I have had them replaced a good half dozen times as seam to crack all the time. One thing people tend to forget is the warranty is going to be much better off the truck then the private label.
I just got the jamestown the other day. 5 drawer. This video just gave me an even better peace about buying it. Moving up in the tool world. Planning to upgrade to matco sockets, ratchets, wrenches, impacts and also the long barrel air hammer .
I have switched to Matco locking flex heads my self they’re fantastic. I even got a extra 1/4 drive and switched it to a 3/8 anvil and as a flat rate motorcycle tech, it is always in use.
I finally got a Matco dealer a couple weeks ago and decided to pick up an 18" 3/8 locking flex head ratchet because of how highly you praise them, and so far you weren't wrong, I like the handle and the lock on the head is nice and solid, plus its also thinner then my Snap On flex head it replaced.
Excellent choices!! I prefer the older style MATCO locking ratchets made by Armstrong that had the locking lever recessed but, sadly they're not available any more. The MATCO pinless impact swivels are great too. Thanks for sharing,
I'm a huge fan of their ratchets. Especially the locking flex heads. I've shelled out a few, but it was in cases where I should have been using a breaker bar. Especially the 24" 88. It's the only truck brand ratchet I'll buy.
Yes, the pin less design impact wobbles are awesome, but the are proud of them. I do like the locking flex head of Matco ratchets, but that's the only thing I like. I think SO ratchets are much smoother operation and I've put some pretty good torque on them.
Bought a pinless swivel from Matco to try. First use it bound up in one direction. Had to get it warrantied.. haven’t used it or the other pinless ones I bought. (8mm&24mm 3/8dr)
Apex Tool Group which owns Gearwrench, owns the patent on the Pinless design. The Matco used to be manufactured in the USA (Same as Craftsman USA), and Gearwrench Taiwan. As well the Matco Ratchet head was first produced by Danaher which has an association with Apex and was also available in Armstrong and Craftsman USA.
The Matco pinless swivels are the bomb, have gone through two 15mm deep sockets but they get beat daily and Matco guy replaces them no questions. Only have the 3/8 pinless though. Never broke a Matco ratchet have 1/4 to 1/2. Broke two EZ Red ones though.
Snap on swivels are definitely the best. Matco has a collar around it that causes it to not be able to get into tight spaces. These videos tend to lean towards their favorite company do side by side comparisons and see. Almost all Snap on stuff is made in America by American people which supports them and us. Some matco stuff is made in US but not as much
I have that air hammer It is a beast but broke on me many times. Sent my Snap air hammer in for rebuild and have to say both hit hard Both great tools but my snap on was like 10m years old my matco has been repaired three times now
I think what people were talking about breaking the big 1/2 inch drive flex head is in 2014 to 2015 roughly they tried hardening the Anvil and it was too hard and it would just sheer right off but they've since fixed that I had 4 new heads and 6 or seven rebuilds in that time frame and it almost got to the point I didn't trust it but they have fixed it and I haven't broke it since
Our Matco dealor sucks so most the time I go to snapon instead. And the snapon dealor is really good and easy with warentee. But I wanna see if there’s anything Matco I should get
The shop I work at has several of the long matco 1/2" drive ratchets and they are pretty much on a repair rotation because they break so much, we also have some snap on long ratchets which seem to hold up better and at least snap on isn't afraid to stop by, it's irritating that you spend what you do on tools and then you have to hunt ,beg and plead to get them warranted, if the tool truck guys hope to survive they either need to be more consistent or come up with a better replacement policy!
You always have the option to call corporate and have them send you a rebuild kit. Hell if I ask my dealer for a kit he gives it to me nqa. When I'm done I just give him the old kit and he sends in in for warranty.
I’m a tech at a Volvo mack dealership and I absolutely love the Mac axis ratchets I own them I’m all drives they offer and there TOUGH, big fat heads on them and they take a beating
I am a DIY so please excuse my question. I have terrible time with swivel impact sockets. Everytime the socket flies off nut or bolt when it's attached to a swivel. Maybe you can show me how it's done.
I love my snap on ratchets. I have broken a couple ratchets but never a snap on. Also the have amazing swivels. The drill bits and air hammer I would agree. In my opinion snap on makes a bada$$ tool box but way to expensive would be my only complaint.
I like MATCO tools all of their Ratchets/chrome/impact lines opti-torque/extentions/tool boxes are all made in USA so is their tool boxes/carts. Plus they got a LOT of other tools the Snap-On/MAC does not have.
I Think My Matco Dealer Got The Corona Virus 🧻😳🧻 I Haven’t Seen Him in 3 Mos. He Said He Was Going On a Trip To China To Visit The Harbor Freight Distribution Center to Get a Step Up On His Competition 🤕🧻😳🧻👀🧻🧻
We're going to ask you to start a new series. Instead of the "top 5 Matco" or "my go to Matco" I've thought of a name you could give it and have a weekly episode. You can call it "The Matco Diaries" brought to you by the Flatratemaster, "The FlatRateMatco Episodes", "The FlatRateMatco Weekly Show", "The Matco Diaries" brought to you by Flatratemaster or FlatRateMatco.... Just a little something to add a little humor to weekly episodes on a certain day(s). On a side note I have the Mac 3/8 & 1/2 dr impact swivels, pin style I believe since around 1994 ish. They took way more abuse back then as alot of the work was class 8 semi truck, trailer work but still the same stuff they sold to auto techs as well. Still stand by them to this day and will for at least a few more decades I'm around and hopefully one of my kids or their spouse's will do the same and use them even if for home / hobbyist stuff. I have some of the pinless gearwrench swivels which do well in 3/8. There's a pinless chrome 3/8 I believe it is that performance tool or gearwrench makes that I've had awhile and it works great. I have Snap-On impact swivels as well 3/8 & maybe a 1/2 along with a 1/4 impact. Yeah go ahead and laugh about the 1/4 in but it actually is stronger than the u-joint swivels I was using by various mfrs and breaking regularly with a impact but maybe I was using a small tool for a big job. None of us mechanics would do that would we? 🤔 I will say the u-joint swivels I've been most impressed with lately because of them being new along with their unique socket sets have been motivxtools. Their u-joints have the spring that allows them to keep from flopping over sideways which is great when doing dash work, reaching down into tight areas where flexion is needed but with u-joint style they normally flop over, cause frustration and you have to try the getting it back into where you're doing he work whether it be a bolt or nut again. I have a 1/4 Dr Sunex impact swivel that I thought would be useless and break fairly easily. It's still going strong a few years later. One thing for sure with tools these days is warranties, etc Warranties are abound and plentiful but standing behind them can be a issue at times with some companies especially if they're older, etc. I've had some issues with some places, franchisees whom I haven't dealt with on a regular basis who say they can't help but when you either mail it or get corporate involved they seem to change their tune for the most part. Franchisees are known at time to say "well you're not one of my regular route customers", etc, etc but when reminded generally by corporate with whatever conversation they have they come around more so than not. With store bought tools with warranties this is where I generally have less trouble as long as I can find a store that carries the brand otherwise at times I'm forced to warranty via mail unless it's really old as stated above because you may have a hard time finding the company as they may not be a big bustling company that they may have once been or you may have to find who bought their brand and see if they'll honor the warranty or do a "goodwill" warranty. @FRM , I know I dipped into the topic of warranties. That would be a good topic for a video which I'm sure you could get a good 10 min of edited video or more if you did comparisons, views of your tool truck guys opinions about what they feel about warranties regarding their companies brands products even if it's a walk on guy who maybe they hadn't dealt with because maybe they'd used a different franchisee years ago before the current franchisee's time as a tool truck salesman, maybe tools someone bought used at a tool store or just tools of that brand bought elsewhere because the mechanic found a good deal, pawn shop, etc. Their opinions towards those types of deals as if the guy is buying some stuff every now and then whether or not tool guys you deal with use the theory of if they're buying from me even on occasion then I'll warranty whatever they have. I've seen tool guys have the attitude of well they're not buying from me so why should I take care of them but this view in quite a bit of people's eyes mainly mechanics can be detrimental to a tool truck guy as what if it was a tool passed down from a family member. Just treating a guy right even if a first time or 10th time walk on could eventually lead to a sale other than warranty whether it be a big or small sale. It also can affect your image as a franchisee as if a tool truck guy was giving bad service he'd get ran off out of a place once the last of those who owed him money.
Appretiate it! Im thinking about getting the 30 but dont want to bigger than usefull for what i need. I dont have a matco dealor, only snap on so i cant check em out
That's odd, our Matco rep told me that he is REQUIRED by corporate to stop at every shop in our town whether they want to see him or not. I'm guessing some don't follow the rules though.
I been a Heavy Equipment dealer Technician for 22 years and 1 thing I can say, Matco tools are junk, besides there toolbox line that are made in America. I pass on Matco tools specially there ratchets they always seem to break easy on me. I'll stick with Mac,and Snap On for tools. I found them to be more reliable. Matco tools boxs are 1 best though. I have there bigger 6 series deeper stainless with a hood, and side box.👍
matco refuses to visit my shop. im in a plaza with a quick lube and a transmission shop. makes no sense. i like their tools, and i like oakley sunglasses. lol.
He’s been shitting on snap on every since he got his matco boxes. 🤯 All the stuff he rates above snap on is either sponsored or given to him on demo 🤔 I just want unsponsored and unbiased opinions.
What do licenses have to do with manufacturing? They pay for their labels to be put on tools like Witt Astro etc and the consumer pays a premium for that. They also pay extra for exclusive products which the consumer pays extra for. My main point was just that they make absolutely no tools lol!
Yes. Sir you are a tool junky ! They got you by the balls. they got you chained to the tool.truck. hope theyre giving you free stuff for plugging them in just kidding 😂 matco is good stuff they hold up
