My two favorite fuzz pedals at the moment are the Hoof Fuzz from Earthquaker Devices and the Pharaoh Fuzz from Black Arts Toneworks. EHX just re-issued their famed Russian Big Muff from the 90s(should have never sold mine!), in a more modern, smaller enclosure.

Yeah the eqd erupter is really dirty, gated, little velcro sounds! I'm happy with this pedal! Waiting the new eqd Velcro fuzz.

$8000+ Gibson Historic 59 reissue with gold plated o2 free $80 cord into a $3000 boutique head, Mesa cab with Celestion Golds and then I plugged into a Carcosa fuzz. I think the braz rosewood fingerboard adds a little snap to it. Maybe I need to get another guitar?

I tried all of the EHx muffs including the germanium one and I got myself a swollen pickle from way huge (mxr). The tone wicker is worth a try.

Do the same with humbuckers. Maybe even with modern and vintage 'buckers? The fuzzes react so much differently when blasted with humbuckers.

I will say though that for demos, having the db meter running in the background is super helpful and much appreciated. As cool as the ios apps are, they aren't as accurate as a real meter, and to have that big display is great. Just a little overkill for the average guy obviously, but I can definitely see how this would be super useful in a professional recording or live sound environment.

Isn’t that Erupter knob a bias knob and it’s always on volume 11?

Yes it is bias. It only affects the volume as a side effect of changing the voltage. As cool as the 1 knob design is, it makes the Erupter a little hard to use. You can actually get a big volume drop when you turn it on, or the perception of such because it's so fat it gets lost in the mix. And of course it can also be a big volume boost. You kind of need an active volume looper to use it. It is a super awesome sounding pedal though. The guitarist in my band has one and when he turns it on it's always like wow what the f is that??? Definitely makes an impression.

Hmm.. I would've thought you'd use the Fuzz Factory instead of the Wooly Mammoth. Otherwise a good line-up, but I'd add the EHX Deluxe Big Muff, and of course the Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh Supreme. Oh yeah--a KHDK Scuzz Box would be interesting to compare as well. That video needs to be done.

The Mooer Black Secret (Vintage ProCo Rat clone) is better than the Velvet fuzz, the Rat can go from an OD, through the Distortion range, right to fuzz.

Nobody has ever done a good demo of the Erupter on youtube, but it's fantastic in person.

That's my Bassbreaker 15! It loves Muffs and my Lovepedal White Dragon. It does NOT like OCDs, prefers TS9/Klon/Marshall-style pedals eg Buesbreaker, Angry Charlie Doesn't like D-style (that's what she said). Great amp but beware the FX loop! It sucks!

Matt Gilbert -i was thinking of getting in ocd to run next to my 808 on my 007, glad i came across this bit of info. I was considering a muff as well? Which muff do u prefer?

@@brig8013 I have 5! I like the Opamp and Geeen Russian. Both respond well to a boost, the Bassbreaker15 likes most fuzzes and boosters. I did get an ok sound with an OCD but that was with hunbuckers. I prefer singles. I ran it: Epiphone LP Special 2> OCD> Xotic Ac Booster> BB15 (bright switch on, lo gain setting, master cranked)

@@brig8013 007 is a very different amp tho. It's a genuine class A, I think. More of a tweed tone. My Tweed Blues Junior likes OCDs. Maybe it'd work for you. With that amp, I'd consider something like a RAT or Vick Audio V-2 instead of a straight-up Muff. But Green Russian might work. EQ pedal is your friend when using different amps

@@brig8013 Do you know the MI Effects Crossover Drive? That's killer. And any bluesbreaker pedal like a Morning Glory works with most amps. OCD is hit 'n miss. Depends on your guitar and pickups

I would have chose the fuzz master general by earthquaker over this one. I prefer one with an octive option and versatile as the one already mentioned or the orange fur coat. The devi ever shoe Gazer is also a great 2 in 1 pedal, but without the octive. The green house sludgehammer is a beast for real doomy stuff. I don't really care too much for the glitchy pedals. I could probably find something good to use them for, but for the most part they sound like faulty equipment shorting out. Why pay money to sound like a bad amateur who can't afford good equipment?

The only issue I see with the Fur Coat is that it only gives a higher octave, but not lower. I rather play with a separate Octaver that gives a 2 octaves difference.

Carcosa is a killer sounding fuzz for its price for sure! But I must say, that built quality isn't so great. Especially paint job on back plate of this puppy sucks. When I tried to take the pedal from my pedalboard after a long time, the velcro remained on the board with part of the color from the back of the effect... :D Quite funny story.

Built quality is great, actually. They might be made in China, but these DOD pedals are better built than some of the big name brands, particularly EHX and MXR. The components are just as good and the switches are even better than MXR. Some paint coming off because your velcro failed you isn't the pedal's fault. Besides, it's no big deal...I'm sure the pedal still works just fine.

Nice video, but could you play appropriate styles for the pedals? I've been in the market for a fuzz and the style you play is not helping. Think Smashing Pumpkins, Black Sabbath etc. I ended up getting a Carcosa, which I'm thrilled with. One of the main things which sold me was how it reacts to a dirty amp and how my volume controls was suddenly my gateway between slight overdrive to raging explosiveness. These are the things we need to know, as well as how the pedal sounds for APPROPRIATE styles. Not every fuzz user wants to emulate the 60's.
