There are two other alicorns made. Princess Gold Lily was one of them. Sterling was the other. A lot of the time, they were making up toys to fill in blanks between shows, some were abandoned ideas, but Hasbro has always had a certain % of toys that didn't appear in the shows. Part of the reason for this has been argued is that it gave a blank slate for kids to invent their own stories behind those characters.
@@AngelEmfrbl I will tell you that MLP G5 Tell Your Tale Season 2 will feature the Alicorn Kingdom Skyros later down the line. Maybe Hasbro would think about making Princess Skyla Canon in G5 in Skyros. Or maybe Princess Gold Lily and Princess Sterling. But I doubt that. Because the G5 Writers probably have no idea that these 3 Alicorn Toys Existed. Or maybe some of the Writers have heard of Princess Skyla because of the Flurry Heart Situation before. I would think some Fans would be surprised if Hasbro Made Skyla Canon in G5 in Skyros. But I still doubt that it would happen.
2:12 The reason why they included the gummy with purple eyes instead of the plush one is because they didn’t want to confuse the audience with why pinkie may have had a random alligator in her room so they had to make sure to specify it was actually gummy with the purple eyes :>
Like Princess Skyla, Hasbro released two other strange non-canonical alicorn dolls, being Princess Gold Lily and Princess Sterling, idk if they were ever intended to be used in the series but I think they were made just for toy sales. Also just to add some more ideas, the pony figures that came in MLP magazines were always a bit derpy and off-model, the Interactive My Magical Princess Twilight Sparkle toy made for the movie is horrifying and the mlp water bottle thermoses are just odd, esp the twilight one
Something that Skyla reminded me of was the twin packs of Princess Gold Lily and Princess Sterling with Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy respectively. They were recolours of the Celestia mold with Sterling having Luna's eyes. They are genuine toys as I have gold lily myself but I have no clue where on earth they would have fit into the canon as their descriptions only had a basis on personality rather than background. For all I know they were just two random alicorns made to sell more toys than having a purpose in the show! Also really loving this little series so far! It's really fun to see how much Hasbro is willing to do to save/make money! Keep up the good work! 💖
I have a feeling Princess gold lily and sterling were concept ponies of celestia and luna and how they did with spike they made them into toys, cause apparently they do that a lot! (also skyla)
I feel like the whole Skylar thing is just an example of some sort of forward planning, thomas the tank engine planned a whole location called black loch in season 3 but didnt use it until like season 8 or 9.
for sure agree with the theory in the video. I remember seeing the toy in stores and being confused lol. or Candance being pregnant plot couldve been pitched for Season 4 but got back burnered by Twilight becoming an alicorn and Skyla was released early after the earliest pitch was trashed
Yeah, tbh that theory is not crazy at all! It makes so much sense, Skyla being a beta version for Flurry too. I mean, she looks SO MUCH like Cadance, many of us throught she was the baby the princess was going to have
Reminds me as an old pony collector when I was little that I had some rare playsets including queen chrysalis which just had drawn-on holes as a recolored Celestia and that I had some other Celestia toys in G4 (not g4.5) that were white. Apparently Celestia was made pink before Cadence was a thing to appeal as a "pink princess" to cell to girls before Cadence came out and was honestly a great selling point. Some other small inaccuracies/cheap cuts was the G4 DJ-PON3 toy with an indented different eye shape like rarity with her circular eye, Rainbow Dash had lidded eyes for YEARS before it was changed to her more canon eye shape with the three straight lashes, same with Fluttershy and (maybe) AJ. Twilight was also pretty inconsistent after the show introduced her as an alicorn and the company struggled to place her in the small horse body with Pegasus wings or the large Cadence body with the alicorn wings and didn't want to make a whole new model for her besides that one time in the castle playset. Shining armor also didn't have painted hooves in the original wedding playset until the 2013 exclusive playset which painted his hooves but cadence in that set didn't have painted heels, which that set was god awful as it introduced PAPER TIARAS and the awful queen Chrysalis we had. There's also 2 other alicorns never seen in the show that use Celestia's body template which are both pink and yellow, there was also a lot of strange Photoshop work in the toy boxes and speech bubbles being speaking bubbles in the EQ girls playsets. Photofinish also has black streaks in the pony's hair instead of it being all white. Let alone how Rainbow Dash and Cadence didn't have their full colors from mane to tail as the mane for Dashie had red, orange, yellow and green while the tail had purple and blue and Cadence only had a yellow tail. These ponies were sooo cheap and they cut corners really fast but I really enjoyed them before the soft reboot for g4.5 which downgraded my liking towards them lol. Edit; There was also a major inconsistency with Luna as she didn't have her show accurate colors either throughout the entire run of g4 pony line, but nightmare moon was established pretty well and accurately. Also with the Skyla thing, as much as we could say it's a similar thing to Goldlily and Sterling, the toys had a bad habit of spoiling some parts of the show before it was even released like rainbow rocks and rainbow power being heavily marketed only for the actual rainbow power variants of the mane 6 to be shown for a few seconds in an episode AFTER all the merchandise was blasted from hyping it up. The toys at the time gave a lot of spoilers of future characters or themes that'd be put onto the show before the episodes came out so I don't blame anyone for thinking Skyla was going to be canon and she's a lot cuter than flurryheart in my opinion.
1:35 yea, funny how the most recent blind bag to come to Italy (I live here) was the One from 2014, they still sometimes sell those ones, with Fluttershy recolored by rainbow. I never saw a blind bag with accurate Fluttershy.
Twinkleshines toy came out in 2010 but the first time the characters name is mentioned in the series happened in 2015 so they most likely forgot about the toy.
Another thing I noticed is that in 2010 or 11 idk they made these 2 random Alicorn, princess sterling and princess gold Lily and they never appear in the show
Makes sense smh, they only cared about selling toys back in the day when G4 was brand new and didn't bother to make something accurate... It's not like it is way better now but eh ":7
I speak as a collector of My Little Ponies, I appreciate the G4 toys that do not have in-show counterparts. G4 was very lacking in variety and a character having no established personality means that it may be easier to imagine them being however you wish. There are three alicorns that were never in the show: Sterling, Goldlily and Skyla. I don't think that it's impossible that any of them were planned, but I'm inclined to think that they're just characters that were never planned to appear in the G4 show. What's amusing is that differences between the toys and the shows are not really new, what comes to mind is Morning Glory from G1, who was once depicted with inaccurate colours in the show. However, in other depictions her colours were more consistent with that of her toy.
4:03 Well I have a simpler theory. I know that LEGO first makes toys and sells them, then broadcasts a series.A similar situation can take place at Hasbro, where they first created a toy and in the process of selling toys, they changed the script of the show.
I think Princess Skyla was going to be Flurry Heart but also Hasbro were testing the waters of random alicorn toys and realised it doesn't make sense in canon
80% of Luna toys are purple. I get that the dark blue color she has is more expensive to produce but they could have used her design in S1 where she was a lighter blue color, I mean they even use it on the artworks on the boxes. Also, most Cadence toys being the wrong color as well. In the show she was light pink with pastel colors but her toys are way too saturated and ugly.
Honestly Hasbro had no idea the show would be so popular, they just released a bunch of random toys like they used to do in G3 (That's not bad, G3 is my favorite generation) so until 2013 the toy line and the tv show were almost like totally different things. I remember there were two alicorn princesses in the toy line (One of them came in a pack with Fluttershy), they were just a recolor of Celestia and were never actually in the show.
Cool video. It would be cool if you could make one about weird bootlegs and knockoff MLP toys that are sold in foreign countries. One that comes to mind is "My Little Horse" lmao
What's this? Pony content I havent seen? And it's high quality? Colour me interested. Great vid, i have a bunch of blind bag figures my cousin gave me like 2 years ago and most of them are awful, aside from a cute fluttershy one which i sometimes take out with me as a lucky charm.
The only reason I'm happy that the Princess Skyla toy exists is because of the way they spelled her name, it's the 2nd most unique way to spell that name (the dutch spelling is number 1 btw) If you're wondering why I care, that's how MY name is spelled and I don't see it spelled that way often (if ever) Only reason I don't hate that toy
Princess Skyler reminds me of some other things. When she was launched I remember thinking it was Cadence and Shining Armor’s baby two- thought it would happen sonner I guess. I thought I heard someone say that it ended up being a joke between the creators but I don’t remember where I saw that. They also had two recolors of the standard Princess Celestia mold called “Princess Goldlilly” (sold with a Pinkie Pie- I think) and “Princess Sterling” sold with Fluttershy. I remember being so confused.
1:34 I always remember the Fluttershy one and I always remember this one making me so angry because the fact that they couldn't fought or giving her the right mold
Your videos make me happy/comfort and ether pacing (especially the way you talk I’m aware that sounds weird) is perfect for my adhd and I’ve been hyperfixated on mlp for years now
The princess Skyler toy is literally a rebrand of a toy from G3! You know, the one where they where babies. I had one second hand and it literally never shut up but I always thought it was pretty cute, and I still think the Skyler one is too. The doll ate food, drank from a bottle and you could rock her to sleep. I think her eyes closed too but I can’t remember. To my memory they made three, a rainbowdash, a pink unicorn (that I had) and an earth pony but I can’t remember her either.
My favorite character and pony as a kid as Luna (she’s still a huge favorite) and I remember bring pissed as all hell that she never got any merch. Whenever she actually DID get merch, she was always bright purple with glittery teal and purple hair and always the main pony model instead of being accurate to her design. They didn’t start releasing accurate merchandise of her until YEARS later
This entire concept is basically that episode of Powerpuff girls where that guy made a line of knockoff toy Powerpuffs who looked nothing like the actual Powerpuffs, except in this case it's the actual company making these things
I rerember those two andom brushable alicorns, one Lemon yellow and other purpleish blue, I remember seeing theese as a kid and thinking to myself: "wtf?"
I have some toys of the mane 6 that I don’t know where they’re from because my mom got them off eBay. They have crystal manes and eyes, but their tails are normal. My theory is that the og owner took the heads of one set and attached them onto another set, because Twilight’s head is a different shade of purple than her torso, and their heads don’t quite align with the torso
Can you do a videos on characters that should have gotten toys like some villians, Danny Williams, the pillars, ECT! Oh and Scootaloo in the washout uniform because that would be fun.
i have been laughing at the thumbnail for so long. its so funny that it seems someone is so disappointed and mad at these mlp toys. my favourite part is the capitalised “MORE” and the “really…?” you are so disappointed and im here for it
Ever since I saw that Fluttershy toy with the Rainbow dash hair always confused me. When I first saw her mane I was like “That’s not her?” I’m also wondering why this appears in my recommendations twice right next to eachother.
Nobody really cares xd, but I have 3 theories as to why twinkle Shine might be pink 1. Most plausible of the 3, they made her that way so that she would appeal more to little kids 2. They planned and produced the toy before she was shown, and were unable to change the toy's design after 3. She was based/inspired by a past gen pony. It may not make much sense to people who don't collect the toys, but stuff like this happened quite a lot lol, many of the "original series" ponies are based/inspired by older gen ponies, best example I can think of is Rainbow Flash, which not only has the same name but also looks exactly like her G3 counterpart, others like Cupcake (also known as "Sugarcup"), Dewdrop Dazzle, Plumsweet, Starswirl, Skywishes and Honey Buzz also have the same thing going on with them. Granted, I was unable to find any possible G3 ponies that they might've based her on Also, sort of a fun fact: all of the original series non-mane six characters use a recolor as their box art, only exceptions being: Cheerilee, Lily Blossom, Daisy Dreams, Rainbow Flash and Starswirl
Maybe it was a fever dream but I could swear they also made up a baby for queen chrysalis named princess larva. I tried to look it up but I genuinely can't tell if it's an edit or not
Notice! 2:44 I have both the sets, the gummy from the pinky pies sleepover set is way bigger to fit the equestria girls! Also, its spine in-between the scales is way wider than the tiny version like its stretched? It's quite confusing!
When I was little I used to love these kind of little toys. I used to play with fidget spinners, the 3rd MLP little toys you mentioned, slime, little mermaids that can change their tails color underwater, some kind of zombies made of gum with some train thingies, cats that have hats and purses and so on. I honestly miss those good old times where I bought some random small toys and my parents spending money every morning while we were going to school... Ah yes, good old times. I have the urge to buy some right now.
I remember seeing MLP toys that looked nothing like the show and I never got why this issue was around for a company that’s been known for making toys for years.
Princess Skyla's toy design makes me think of the Gen 3 Newborn Cuties toys. A quick Google Images search shows that their faces and body positions are pretty similar. My guess is that they were prototyping the G4 baby toys, cause they knew one was coming. So, they resorted to old baby pony designs to see how they'd do on the market...again. And then Flurry Heart came along and struck down Skyla.
I remember having the twinkle shy shown at the beginning of this video, I was quite young and got it at a charity shop so it was not in a box, I remember that I did think it was pinky pie.
Whasnt there another princes baby relised whit princes skyla? Princes larva. She looks like queen chrisali's child. Maybe she wasnt ment to be in the show but was still made since candance and chrisalis were rivals back in the day for the canterlot wedding toy line, later seasons had starlight vs chrisalis
even tho i always disliked how inaccurate 98% of official mlp merch is, i love the fluttershy figure with rainbow dash hair lol idk why i just think she looks cute
The fact that I had that Princess Skyla toy as a little kid because my grandma bought it for me thinking it was an actual character in the show and I was like "who tf is this"😭
I'm pretty sure they made Celestia pink cuz they thought it make girls want to play with her. also there were two baby alicorn toys with different names [I'm pretty sure] so I think they were just testing the waters?
Oooh this explains the Fluttershy colored Rainbow Dash my grandma had (or rather the Rainbow Dash shaped Fluttershy?) XD It was given to me and I've always been so confused about it
As a Kid my first ever mlp toy i got was a celestia that had her tall body but was pink and her hair was hard in the style of rainbow dash with green, pink and blue colors and a luna that had a normal (teen ig?) body as the mane six
OG MY GOD, I USED TO HAVE A PRINCESS SKYLA TOY! She was one of my favorites, I guess I was too stupid of a child to realise Id never even seen her in the show.
The fact is that they treat the children like morons. Shame on you Hasbro. At least "Concerned Pony", "Demon Donkey" and "Pleasure Superior" have the excuse to be bootlegs.
