i almost drowned myself when i was 15 trying to help a classmate who was drowning in the school pool. The worst part of it was when the teachers didnt even care when i told them..... i cant imagine the anger and frustration the lifegard was feeling
It's pretty hard to save someone panicking in any body of water. They can just pull you under with them and it's scary as hell the feeling of losing breath while you're under water it's crazy. Lifeguards having boards or other stuff to help people float is just so important
@@Bringon-dw8dx Yep. At public pools they should all have some form of floatation device (I usually saw the rings) But at beaches or in residential pools it's different. Even worse, in rivers or ponds that people do also swim in there is no help and it is enter at your own risk.
I’ve only once seen a lifeguard have to save someone, but it was kinda crazy. Their reaction time is insane and they had dove into the water before I even noticed the kid were struggling to swim.
I think that might've been a language thing in this situation, the child has understood "you can't swim" and he's responded "I do know how to swim" rather than understanding "you can't swim in this specific location" English is obviously his second language so he's probably only understanding key phrases
Hate to say it, but I think I see a bit of genetic stupidity maybe going on there. "Oh really? My kid almost died? Oh bummer". And the kid not getting that someone was actually rescuing him there....
@@txlon2093 listen here you little shit. I’m done with these comments. IM DONE. THERE ARE PRACTICALLY MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ON EARTH. AND EVERYONE HAS IDEAS, THEY ALL CAN COME UP WITH THE SAME THINGS, YOU DONT KNOW WHAT PEOPLE ARE THINKING, YOU DONT KNOW IF THEY DIDNT SEE THE OTHER COMMENTS. YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING. MAYBE THEY DID. MAYBE THEY DIDNT. STOP ASSUMING. ITS GETTING ON MY NERVES.
A lot of the people who need rescuing are Asians, seems like there is a huge language barrier as they do not seem to understand warning signs or what the lifeguards are saying Perhaps Bondi could employ some Lifeguards who also speak Manadarin, Cantonese, Indonesian or Korean
That’s so sad, Terry saved that little girl, but he lost his son, she’s so sweet by saying thank you straight away, well done to Terry for staying strong about that!
@@lennaymaboyyy4848 No, English is his second language. I'm an English teacher who teaches abroad and this is very common. In class they are not rules use " must" and "can" is for ability. So he's used to " you musn't swim here" rather than " you can't swim here".
They deserve a lot of credit and recognise from what they do, they actually do a lot of work. It is sad that they don't get a lot of credit and recognise from what they do
The emotions that these guys feel when saving kids tells you how strong willed they really are. To face that grim possibility every day and power through, nothing short of heroism. I've nothing but respect for these lifeguards
My heart melted when the little girl said “thank you” and when one of the life guards lost his son I felt so bad edit:OMFG ty guys so much for liking my comment it truly means the world to meh guys I only usually get three including me lol
Oh my god, that little girl in the aqua swimsuit as soon as she's sitting on the board and catches her breath, her first words are thank you. I felt that. You say and hear thank you so often during your day but I really felt that one. She was all alone, what a guy, she was so lucky that he saw her. Thank you.
My daughter and I were out swimming on LI. I noticed she started to struggle, so I swam out to fetch her, only to find myself struggling now as well. Thank God the lifeguard saw me waving. She rescued us both! And I've had swimming classes. Always swim near the lifeguard and not too far out.
The Chinese kid and dad made me so angry. The kid didnt give af Edit: I am aware of a language barrier here but nor the child or the father showed any gratification through speaking or their body language. Also, I have been called racist for saying they are Chinese. This is a pretty educated assumption as they are speaking mandarin
when the lifeguard said "you can't swim here" the kid thought he was saying that he didn't know how to swim so he responded "I can" because he was replying thst he knows how to swim, not that he can't swim in that area
Bless her heart she almost died and still had time to say thank you to her saviour she was adorable I POSTED THIS COMMENT 2 MONTHS AGO WHY IS IT SUDDENLY BLOWING THX FOR 12K ALSO STOP ARGUING IN THE REPLIES THANK YOU weeb squad unite ✊
okay but this really made me tear up. anytime you see these things it makes you wanna hold your kid and never let them go. that poor baby girl she must've been terrified and I just really would like to know how some of these parents aren't paying attention when they're kid is in a damn ocean.
Hagar Mohamed The little girl was so lucky to be alive but there was this 18 months-year-old child they were on a canoe my mom saw this and it said eight-month-old fell off a canoe either a they drowned which is most likely or be their life song how sorry if anything is spelled wrong because AutoCorrect wants to murder me
Terry’s story was heartbreaking, and when the girl said “thank you” I realised how much more it must have meant to him. Respect to all life guards, saving so many innocent people.
That wa super cute. The mom even said thank you,, usually parent don't care.. but in the other kids defense if I was that close to drowning I'm not sure I could think straight enough to say thank you, I'd be to busy crying and catching my breath lol
The little girl in the blue suite has me crying she was close to death and the first thing she I said is thank you 🥺😭 she was raised right. Edit Wow I feel famous
If I had a kid and we went a beach I would swim with my child staying in shore Swimming in the kiddy pool And bondi is a dangerous place for kids ,huge waves , never stopping water And bon *DIE* like and the *RIP* (REST IN PEACE) Mother's and fathers watch your child
that asian kid with the little sister that almost drowned ... "don't follow me, you’re smaller and weaker" i died right there. my bro acting as if he isn't small himself lol
He is just saying that for the concern for his sister. If it takes being mean, saying the truth in order to save your sister, wouldn’t you do the same as well?
It’s just ignorance and lack of knowledge, for a lot of people a beach trip is a once in 10 years thing. Maybe they are even on vacation from another country and it’s a once in a lifetime vacation and it could be the first time with their kids. Many just think of the beauty of the ocean and don’t even consider it’s danger. Then the ignorance and lack of knowledge gets them into situations where they can be at risk of serious injury or death. It’s unfortunate but just a part of being a human being, we all live and we all learn one way or another whether by research and knowledge of safety protocols before entering the water or by nearly drowning.
My brother drowned 1 minute after saving my cousins from drowning, and I was in so much disbelieve, and shock, it’s so so so so hard to see this happen
I feel so bad for these children but that’s why it’s so important for their parents to watch them and make sure they don’t go too far out because the current can be so strong and it can easily take them under🤦♀️💔
All these kids are way too young to be in the sea on their own in the first place in my opinion! I mean, I get knocked over knee deep in the sea and I’m 18😂
7:12 - that emotion shows how seriously all the boys take their job. It's not a reason to take unnecessary risks but these guys don't even worry about their own safety, yes theyre really well trained but still they put everything they have into saving lives. It's a very powerful thing.
I remember I was surfing on a shelf and I had this bad feeling about the rip and i turned around to see a young boy begging for life. I paddled over to him and right when i got close he slipped under the waves. I knew in that moment I had to risk my life for this poor kid, I ripped my leggy off and ditched the board and swam to the bottom and i found him out of luck. If I been 2 seconds late he would have drowned. I got him to the beach just find out that his mother was undergoing CPR from the same situation. She lived. Most surreal moment in my life. I cant stress enough for people to read the flags.
I'm an average swimmer and I'll freak out if you throw me into the calm sea. How these parents allow their kids to go into such high wave waters, I'll never understand
MZ - 06GS - Mountain Ash MS (1421) I agree I’m also Chinese and the dad said “I told you not to go there” and the kid said he said he knew but thought he could swim back.
The little girl in blue barely had enough energy to gasp her last breath but managed to express her gratitude to to the man that saved her. “Thank You.”
A lot of them are like that. Here in the Philippines, I live by the beach and work as a dive master. So many Chinese tourists coming and 90% of the time, they're the one who gets in trouble with swimming or drowning as most of them don't know how to swim. Even if you tell them not to go to certain areas wether in English or in their own language, they will still go there.
I swear Harrison has the world’s best eyesight Edit: I don’t want to be one of those people who is like ‘OmG thANks fOr alL THe lIkEs’ but wow people actually agree with me 😳😳
that little girl seemed really polite, I don’t know why but I feel like she’ll be smart as she gets older. She 5, in a death situation, drowning, and she said thank you so quickly omg, angel. 🥺
Omg. I feel so bad for these kids. There so defenceless against the water. If there wasn’t anyone to same them they would be dead. My favourite Rescue has to be Brad. What about yours
It’s actually pretty common that ‘normal’ people don’t notice a drowning. Contrary to in a lot of movies, drowning people do not make noise. No yelling for help, no screaming, just going up and under in the water. They do not have time to scream, their mouth fills with water and if not they are trying to suck in air. Most of them won’t even be able to wave hard with their arms or legs, cuz they are to busy trying to breath and stay up. Drowning is silent and with little splashing. You’re not trained, you won’t notice. I work at a big swimming lake. 2 people drowned last year in shallow water, on the busiest of days. No one noticed. Took us 2 and 3 days to even find the bodies.
I only pay attention to my kids, I'm always watching them, if they on the water I'm in the water, or sitting down just watching. And they better not move from where I tell them they can swim, I don't like to repeat myself, I will take my chancleta and thats it... Now if I see a kid alone, I won't let him go on the water if I don't see the mom around....
I nearly drowned when I was younger and the people in the water near me didn’t even noticed but the one at the shore saved me. It’s probably not easy to notice your surrounding if you’re focusing on something else.
Because it happens very quickly. In a matter of seconds someone can go under and drown. And most people are looking back at the beach, the waves or their friends. They aren’t paying attention to strangers in the water.
It can also be very dangerous to try and save someone, when someone is drowning they are panicking, so they cling and grapple and pull you down, life guards are specifically trained to be Ablr to deal with this.
I was recently rescued by an off duty swimming lifeguard during a kayaking trip that went wrong as our boat was broken. I have so much respect for these people and the works they do. Thank you!
Patrick 123 I just got this ping and it’s making me emotionsl because mine is in hospital right now🥺she’s fine and she’s home tomorrow but she’s always been in my house every night when I go to sleep. Sorry it sounds stupid
That red-headed boy knew full well how close he got to death. Also, when the lifeguard pulled him out of the water by the scruff of the neck, there was something so primal and universal about that, saving the cubs.
Being a lifeguard must be difficult. I don’t know how they notice if a child is drowning or just playing around. I’m sure there is many times where it was just a false alarm.
Yeah when i was lil i used to jump up and down to stay aflot (in a pool i would breath go underwater, touch the floor and jump back up) and people would think im drownin lol
8:17 gave me a little tear when she says thank you while still struggling to catch her breath and regain strength. Parents need to be looking more closely after their kids. If you become a parent- bear the weight.
Zombie Queen ikr I know children can just drift out and it can happen extremely quick but they should think of putting arm bands or a life jacket especially in Australia where they’re can also be strong sea creatures and heavy currents.
That dad/lifeguard who lost his son broke my heart 💔. Think about this: He lost his son to drowning, the thing his whole job prevents. I couldn't imagine how he feels. My parents lost their son (my brother) years ago (not to drowning) and it doesn't matter how your child dies, parents will ALWAYS blame themselves. But to be a life guard and have your son die of drowning? May he find peace.
I'm sure that's why he does this job. So he can prevent another kid from drowning the way his son did. He wouldn't want the parents to feel the same way he did. Much respect for him
Harrison: Mate what are you doing? Kid: I’m swimming Harrison: you can’t swim here Kid: yes I can Me: Mate you nearly just drowned your doing a pretty shit job at swimming.
I was rescued by a life guard when I was 7, at a public pool. My parents were nearby, but these things happen in a split second. I’m in my 30’s now but I think about that lifeguard now and then even though we have lost contact. So grateful to him for acting swiftly. Hats off to all these amazing people saving lives everyday.
Can we just take a moment of silence to appreciate the life guards. They risk their own lives and in some cases, BALLS 😂, and they don’t get the appreciation they deserve. Thank you guys for doing this 🥰😔🙏✊
To all the people wondering “why everyone is Asian”, it’s because the LOCATION OF AUSTRALIA. Australia is a very common vacation site for people in the surrounding area such as China and Korea (and often Japan). The reason why you see them being rescued is because they are the most common tourist. Being tourist, they are not as aware as native Australians of the dangers of the currents.
You all are my hero’s! Many moons ago I too was a lifeguard at a beach on Maui. The training was intense and you can’t save everyone! The wee ones are the worst losses. Back in the early 70’s we didn’t have the equipment they have now, however time and effort is everything. Thank God for the help of our fellow surfers as well! I’m 70 now but watching y’all takes me back to the heart and soul that you marvelous lifeguards give of yourselves everyday! Mahalo a much Aloha🙏🌺😀
I mean he’s not wrong. She is smaller and can’t last as long in the water as him. Like he said he might get himself into danger so it’s best if she doesn’t follow him around.
@@thedoctor2405 he's a kid, they general are little shits. My nephew is a little shit to. Hopefully he grows out of it or something. I do think he could have been more comforting to her but he just may not have known how to properly react. Hopefully his mom corrected him later.
@@sakurarobloxova5028 for most people it’s easier to understand you can’t swim here it’s more common like I didn’t know mustn’t was a word till I saw this
Seeing Terry talking about his late son is so heartbreaking and what is even more sad that Terry lost his battle with prostate cancer few weeks ago. Rest in peace Terry, you are with your son now, free of all pain.
