The comment about the throw is spot on. What a lot of people fail to realize just because it looks awkward, doesn't mean it isn't repeatable. Darts is like 10 pin bowling in the throwing motion. Consistency and repeatability is key to shot making. The top pro's in bowling and darts have developed muscle memory unique to themselves.

Spot on with 4/5 and you know where I’m gonna go lol If you can grab a point on your last dart so that the opposing player if he throws a 9 mark can’t take the lead Or you have one dart in your hand and grabbing some points so that your opponent has to hit more bullseyes comes to mind Or how about a player who just struggles with 18 which can change your approach how you play that opponent So WW You should do a vid on beginners do’s and dont’s if you haven’t already. My 2 tips are always follow all the way through the dart and beat the board like a drum-seems to me that’s always the common thing world class players always do. Love your attitude and videos!
@WorldwideDarts
@WorldwideDarts 3 года назад
Okay, hear me out here... You suggested that someone throws for more points to increase their lead by 10 marks. Now think about that in the real world or a real match situation. You're suggesting that a player can add more points with a MASSIVE lead. Look at it this way... a really, really good player isn't going to average 3.3mph in steel tip. So we're talking about a 3 TURN lead if someone is up by 10 marks. If a player is winning by that much then it really doesn't matter what they throw at to be honest. And yes, anyone at any time can bang in a 9 mark but let's be honest, how often does that happen? Also, what you're suggesting is exactly what I said. You can either close numbers or choose to point more. You're also suggesting that we can accurately predict what a player is going to hit and adjust accordingly. Imo that sounds good for debate but it's practically impossible to predict what anyone is going to hit before they throw. I'm a decent player and I could totally miss or I could blast in a 9 mark on ANY given throw. To suggest someone can predict how someone is actually going to play is unrealistic. Cricket is a GREAT game for debate. There's a million 'what if's' and that why cricket makes for good discussion. But in a real match situation I would guess that 99% of all games work out like they should.

This is a great channel. You have a cool way of explaining things. I subbed. I'm a Brit living in Spain and the only game they play here in the leagues is cricket. (all soft tip boards in bars too, no real ones).... they'd swear it's like chess! Question about the water thing...what should I do if my board gets really dry because it's hot here? Nothing? just leave it? Cheers! By the way, I think there is a game called cricket in the UK, one darter is the "bowler" and the other the "batsman", the bowler throws at the bull to get "wickets" and the batsman throws at treble 20 to score "runs". At least that's what I played with my dad ha!

Personally I like the way you throw your darts because they seem to release with quite a bit of speed and hit the board straight like an arrow. Being a bit of a novice my throw has some arc to it which I'm still trying to correct. I dunno if thats common for some people or if I just have lots to learn but I guess practice makes perfect 🤷🏻‍♂️.

@WorldwideDarts

That's very true. The bull could be added to when I said a weaker player should throw at the bottom of the board to get more slop. If they miss the bull they still might score. One of the things I dislike about cricket, you get rewarded for missing or playing poorly

My main darts are 80% tungsten and the cheapest in the Red Dragon catalogue. Unfortunately, now you've lured me into the Cosmo system, I've just bought some duralumin stems as three plastic shafts have broken in as many days. So, my stems cost three-times as much as my barrels!

@@WorldwideDarts I ummed and ahed, but decided on the duralumin because they didn't cost much more than the carbons, and I saw a few people saying they'd had a few carbons break. I used to use aluminium stems, but I was playing over a hard floor and dartboard had thick wires in those days, a lot got bent and I moved to nylon. Nylon has been out classed by polycarbonate, more choices in shape, style,colour etc.. but they are too brittle, I had cosmos but they break all the same, had brand new ones snap on me and they snapped just hitting the board, no dart contact or anything, not buying them again! I play over a carpet and rubber ochre strip now so I may try aluminium again.

I've just been browsing through RU-vid and searched for champions choice dart boards and "Worldwide Darts" was the only channel that came up. So, I watched it and left a pretty lengthy comment for that video. At the end of my comment I mentioned what I do to every new board out of the box. And now after watching this video I have to address... Myth #5 - it should be common knowledge around the dart community what water does to any bristle dartboard, cheap or not. I'm from Hawaii born and raised here with beautiful sunny weather almost year round. In the Islands the majority of the house dartboards are outside in the garage where it's open and comfortable for any amount of people to relax, talk story or pair up and get a dart game going. I have been playing darts since the early 90's and from personal experience over 30yrs that I played I've NEVER intentionally sprayed water on or thought of doing it in the first place. But, I do spray my board with any "silicon" base lubricant. I started using WD-40 first which worked but dried out after a few weeks. Till I saw this can next to the WD-40 that caught my eye with Sealant, Protects, Lubrication and Silicon and read everything on that can and what it was use for. Bought it and never stopped using any other product on my boards ever since. Hint: WD-40 is Water Displacement #40. Hmmm...Silicon, seals what you sprayed from "water", lubricates surfaces or softens the surface with petroleum properties that won't dry out for a while but still remain in the board for excellent healing. The only Con is when removing the darts after spraying the board your tips/points will have residue of the product on it. So, avoid touching the tip until you can wipe it off before throwing it again. This is right after you'd sprayed but eventually it will dry or come unnoticeable when setting up your grip again. I hope this helps you with protecting your dartboards from the elements to soften it for better healing properties...Shoot'em Up!! "HI_TON808" 🤙😎🌴

Good video 1)80% Tungsten will just a little girthier but wont affect the average player. Agreed! 2)Lol....Totally agree. Very silly to spend money on expensive darts. Get tungsten off amazon for $60 3)I somewhat agree. It is a bit of an uphill battle if your throw has some hitches. Causes more variance. But you are somewhat right. I have a short follow through but still win on my leagues. 63PPR 4)Agreed. But this took me some research on a computer. Take a point lead, then cover numbers....never chase. Better players want a long game, if your opponent is better than you, you want a short game. That simple. 5)WTF?!?!?!?!?!!? That would ruin a board. Lol.

in sunny england we play a different game called cricket ... Your either bowling or batting if bowling you only go for the bull and outer bull. Outer is 1 wicket bull is 2 if your batting you need to hit a score over 40 to score then add you score until wickets run out you can set your own perimeters how many wickets or a higher score to score but you get the gist. Good game and everyone need some bull training from time to time

Thanks for the videos, Worldwide. These are fantastic. Btw, re your myth that 90% darts are "better" than 80%. Darts are generally tungsten/nickel alloy. 90% W/10% Ni has a density of 18.3 g/cm3, 80% W/20% Ni has a density of 17.2 g/cm3. That's only 6% difference, not much. If you made a 22g dart blank, just a cylinder of solid metal alloy, and each of them was 40 mm long, then the 90% alloy would have a diameter of 6.2 mm and the 80% alloy would have a diameter of 6.4mm. Somehow, I don't think that's going to screw up anyone's groups all that much. The real difference is that people think tungsten is exotic and they want to buy something closer to 100% tungsten. All that does is make the darts much tougher to machine and manufacture.
@WorldwideDarts
@WorldwideDarts 4 года назад
Spot on! And very true with your last sentence. Since the metal is stronger it makes it more difficult to machine and it eats through tooling much more quickly. That's why the higher tungsten content cost more. Not because it's "Better". Thank you for your very informative comment 👍
@jonhykawy6556

@@WorldwideDarts One other quick note. To get a kg of 99.9% tungsten bar from China today will cost you $33.70. You pay the shipping, that's FOB cost. To get a kg of really pure nickel metal from Norilsk, the cost is about $14.03 a kg. So 30 grams of 90% alloy costs only about $0.95 in raw material costs. 30 grams of 80% alloy is only about $0.89 in raw materials. Yes, someone has to make the alloy, cast it, rough it out, fine machine it, etc etc to make a dart. But starting with maybe $3 in raw materials for 3 darts, can anyone explain why a set of 90% darts should really cost you $100? Other than marketing and bling and irrationality, I can't. Now, that said I have a set of Monster Helios II barrels that I love, but I got them on sale. So I was only irrational, not completely nuts.

Great video. I agree that cricket lacks the strategic element. I’d also argue that 501 is not particularly strategic either. It requires arithmetic competence and/or memorization of outs. That’s not really strategy. The only strategy involved is when a player sets up for a convenient double rather than taking on a finish involving the bull, if the opposition is not on an out. Having said that, it is more enjoyable to watch.
@WorldwideDarts
@WorldwideDarts 3 года назад
Thanks for the comment. 100% agree. I think when a player learns to play either game then that's it, they know how to play or they don't. Here's an example using 501. let's say we're both sitting on 265. I go first and hit S20, S20, T20 to leave 165. Oops no out. Then you step up and hit the same exact shot but only on 19's by going S19, S19, T19. You've now left a checkout with 170. Just because you knew enough to go 19's I wouldn't call that "strategy". It's just something you knew enough to do that I didn't know. Bunch of memorization and knowing how to play instead of strategy imo.

I once read somewhere that the continuing practice among some to wet the board may hark back to the days when boards were made of (elm) wood and had to be kept wet when not in use to avoid cracking (indeed these are still in use in Manchester (UK)). But I find it hard to believe that a modern day recommendation could stem from that ancient and mostly-obsolete tradition. So where did the “spray the sisal board” myth really originate?
@WorldwideDarts
@WorldwideDarts 4 года назад
You are spot on saying how it originated by I have no idea why this myth carried on here in the states. The video clip was from a league director in Denver Colorado USA. Now to be fair, I lived in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado for several years and being in the high altitude everything dries out quickly as there's no moisture in the thin air. So in this rare instance the fella might be correct.

I’d say cricket provides more opportunities to effect what your opponent throws at, thus at least one strategic way to effect the game. But, still gotta out throw your opponent in player 1 vs player 2 sense.
@WorldwideDarts
@WorldwideDarts 4 года назад
What do you mean by "more opportunities"? Compared to what? How you play the game is pretty much set in stone though. If I go first and hit 4 20's you now have an opportunity to throw at 19's as you should. If you're up on points I now have the opportunity to throw at a new number and try to regain the point lead. Let's be honest here, it's one of the most simple dart games there is. Playing the game as a player should doesn't make the game more technical or strategic. A true strategy is doing something that will give you more chances to win the game. Other than the two things I talked about there really isn't much more you can. Just hope you play better than the other person.

Cricket has strategy. It all depends on which version you play. I (in Belgium) learned to play the version with 20 to 12, double, triple and bull. For example if you throw triple 20, 20 and 20. What do you tick off? 1x triple and 2x 20's of 3x 20 + 40 points?

The issue with myth number two, is that some people who champion the idea that new and learning players "don't need expensive darts", don't even consider so called expensive darts when they are making introductory or recommendation videos to people new to darts. If price doesn't matter, just don't look at the price tag. Tell me the pros and cons and characteristics of different types of darts, and I'll decide how much I am willing to pay for the ones that seem fitting to me. Personally, I find darts to be a very cheap hobby/leisure activity compared to most alternatives, so I really don't care whether darts or dartboards are considered "cheap" or "expensive". So, I basically can't watch those "new to darts?" videos at all, because they always exclude a huge chunk (like 50%) of all the items that are out there. Now, I'm not all that new anymore though, so they aren't really for me anyways, but I just wanted to throw that out there. Cool video by the way, even though I was a bit late to the show. 🙂

i have another strategy for cricket, works well for amateurs like me with avg about 50: starting with bull. if i have the 1st throw, i always start with bull, if the opponent starts, react to him. if he not open a field, then go for bull. for me it works very well, after the bull is open, so many pressure is gone. if i open the bull first, i win 90% if the games. of course its only works for beginners i think
@WorldwideDarts
@WorldwideDarts 2 года назад
How is that "strategy" though? You're choosing to throw at the smallest segments on the board to start the leg off. If I did I'd be luckily to hit a 3 mark or maybe a 4 mark at most. If I start on 20's hopefully I could hit a 5 mark or more. Either way, you're throwing at a target and hoping to hit it. That's just part of the game. I'm not seeing it as strategy at all. Seems to me that a newer player is really going to struggle doing this.

In the same way that 80% tungsten is no worse than 90% tungsten, neither is brass. I played county A for a decade in the 1980s and 90s and I was always battling my darts. I used brass darts in 1980 when I first played league darts (Pompey Inter Firms) and they flew beautifully. I'm now using brass again and they are so much better balanced. And with the advent of longer points, slightly fatter barrells can be kept away from the board meaning grouping is easier.
