United Airlines Flight 173 crashed into a residential Portland neighborhood near the intersection of East Burnside and 157th Avenue.* Currently, the TriMet MAX light rail runs on Burnside and has a stop at 162nd Ave. I'd say it was closer to 158th avenue. I've been to the crash site, and there's nothing there. Or rather, I should say that there is no sign/monument commemorating the accident which ended 10 lives All of the deaths were in the plane, none on the ground This happened nearly 45 years ago. I can say with nearly 100% certainty that if this occurred today in the same spot, the number of deaths on the ground would have exceeded the 10 on the plane, and possibly many times over
