I don't drop the tank anymore 🙅🏾 I take the bolts out all but the last two from the bed and jack the bed up enough to access the pump alot easier and faster than dropping the tank 😨 making a pump replacement no longer a big deal.

Those circuit boards for the wiper motor are easy to repair. The common problem was a break in the solder joints on two of the electrical studs. With a magnifying glass you can see the solder crack around the stud, it's just a matter of re-melting melting the solder and they're problem free after that.

The tilt mechanism is not actually the problem. The problem is the people who use the steering column to get themselves in and out of the vehicle.

Those door handles are on the display shelves of most auto parts stores. That’s how often they’re needed after 23 or more years.

Any steering column specialist does it for less than 100 dollars. 75 last time I did my 88 before I sold it. And yes the 1987 to 1994 305 350 fbi fuel pump I only had to replace once in my 24 years. Secret upgrade when the dealer replaces that pump they use the fuel pump from the 1996-1999 vortec 350 on my 1994 k1500 350 tbi automatic. Sure enough all data said the same thing even my Napa guy was aware. Tapping the wiper circuit board will get it going once or twice but it’s like tapping the starter , it only works a few times.

I haven't had any of those problems with my '97, at least of this writing. But I can give you a few more things I found to dislike about these trucks. One is all that plastic around the front bumper. Just touch it and you've probably cracked a piece. Two is the location of the manual window crank handles. They're too far forward and too low down for easy access. Three is the pot metal that those handles, (and probably the door handles too) are made of. One of my window crank handles was broken off when I bought the truck and I still haven't found a correct replacement for it. Four is the imitation plastic chrome on the front bumper rub strip. Just rub it and it can look very used. And five is that big plastic grille. If you crack the plastic valence strip under it, you may have broken off a mounting tab or two on the bottom of the grille. Think I'm being too picky? Maybe you don't own one.

everything eventually breaks, and that original gm pump just happened to take 28 years to do so compared to the cheap knock-offs. He probably expects that he won’t be keeping this truck for that long.
