I would add Linlithgow Palace, "Wentworth Prison" in Book 1/Series 1 of the books and tv series. It was also the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. It's a short 20 minute train ride from Edinburgh to the Linlithgow train station, and the jumping off location of Mary's Meanderings..a wonderful van tour of the Outlander filming sites which I have taken and loved.

It's a very interesting video for those who want to visit the different castles which appear in the TV Show . During my road trip to Scotland , three months ago , I could visit Doune Castle ,and it was quite a touching moment to be in the courtyard, and on the castle steps ,leading to the inside of the castle, but no filming inside !!!!! I took many pics there . And of course , one of the most moving one , was Midhope castle ,known as lallybroch , so emblematic of the serie Outlander. There were many scenes filmed there, touching scenes !!!! And when you arrive there , after looking for a while on a map , not obvious for French people !!!! because it's a remote site , we finally found it ....We had to park , and then walk to the castle , and when you discover it , it's well , a strange feeling , as if you are going to meet the actors of the serie , but unfortunately , noone there !!! But it was cool to see it and and make some pics there , to have evidence of my being there !!!!!!! A French Fan .

Jamie saying that his father built Lallybroch was ridiculous. No way did that castle look 25+ years old. It looked ancient. The windows, exterior, nothing was 18th century. I know my periods & that castle was & is much older. If it was that new it wouldnt have been so dark & sooty on the outside. Leoch was the same for the eons of dirt.
