Hey all! Want to correct a mistake I said in the video. The Laphroaig Lore actually comes in a 45 PPM instead of 86 PPM like I stated in the video. Even Bulls make mistakes 😂

Great list of peated Scotch Whisky. My favs in order are: 1. Lagavulin 16. Complex and beautiful. 2. Ardbeg 10. Rocket fuel 3. Caol Ila 12. My go to whisky 4. Port Charlotte 12 5. Bowmore 12

For all the reading about scotch that I’ve done thus far, your brief explanation of PPM was huge to me. I had no idea. That’s a very important statistical figure that doesn’t get included in reviews very often. To a definite scotch rookie like myself, though, this means everything. Now, I can properly navigate my way through the Islays and even the Highland selections in a more informed way. Man, I can’t thank you enough for that. You saved me at least a couple of mistakes.

Awesome video! Ardbeg Uigedail is one of my favorite whiskies of all time and I’m primarily a bourbon drinker. So much complexity underneath a punch in the face of beautiful peat smoke. I would recommend Benriach smoky 12. Lighter on the peat but aged in bourbon, sherry as well as Marsala wine casks. It’s a peated speyside whisky that has so much to unpack

I'll never be able to get another, but the original Ardbeg Supernova was by far the finest Peat Monster ever. Best description is to imagine the ultimate beach campfire and put the entire experience into a bottle.

just did 5 accessible Islays (peated) blind w 4 of us (one bro from Scotland) and here was my lineup 5 Bowmore 12 (felt like Lagavulin w flavor-sliders dropped down) 4 Port Charlotte 10 - ok, just a level above in flavor from the BM 12 3 Ardbeg 10. Thought it would be top 2 and surprised it was less smokey and more peaty than it was. Really liked it but not as much as would have thought. VERY light in color. 2 Laphroaig 10 MUCH more smokey than we would have thought. Thoughtit was dirt/peat special (not in bad way) but was either 1 or 2 for all of us... Stunned 1 ....for ALL of us, immediately knowing/declaring this was the best Lagavulin 16...gonna say the fact its 16 years gives the advantage. All sliders pulled up to max. NGL we all did this to "prove" we weren't biased towards Lagavulin...nope. its worth the $88 it costs here in FL

I love your enthusiasm! And they're all yours to enjoy!😂 I've got to try the Talisker, but I'm fortunate to have the others on your great list. Funny story: I asked my 32 year-old son (who lives about 2,000 miles away) what he's drinking these days. "Laphroaig," he replied. That's a really big change from the Buffalo Trace he enjoyed in college. I thought I was going to introduce him to Scotch; but it looks like I missed that boat.😄 Cheers, Kurt!

Thank you for this video. I've been a bourbon fan for a few years but I am ridiculously new to peated Scotch. My nephew gave me a peated single malt from Oregon for Christmas and I just fell in love with the "campfire and band-aide" aroma. Since then I've picked up a Laphroaig Select that I also really dig. I'm gonna have to try some of those great sounding single malts on your list.

Ardbeg Uigeadail is a favorite but I'm also very partial to Ledaig 10yo. From the Isle of Mull, distinctive campfire-smoke peat. Non chill filtered, natural colored. With a drop of water, very complex, sweet and sour, raisiny.
@darkoanton5
@darkoanton5 Год назад
Ardbeg 10 was a lot more refined than I expected. A classy whisky. Ugadail uis amped up. Ledaig 10 is super. It's more like dried, smokey meat (bacon, capicola, etc....). Lagavulin 16 is so easy drinking. Then there is the Machri Mor, Port Charlotte 10, Laphroaig Sherry Cask.. I have an unopened bottle of Kilchoman Sanaig. I'm also a fan of Oban Little Bay.

a solid list. The Laphroiag gives me a specially nice feeling that hits me perfectly. I will make the 2 hour drive down to Valpraiso to join you if you ever need company. I would add the Caol Ila 12 as being preferred to the Lag 16. At 16 years it starts to loose that Peat that I love. This grouping is my favorite whisky range. smoke and peat make me happy. But, like you, none of my friends care to join in!

I actually bought a Talisker 10 just today, and also have Laphroaig 10 and Ardbeg 10 waiting for me. Great line up! You have three of favorite Scotchs, Ardbeg Uigeadail, Lagavulin 16, and Talisker 10. Talisker 10 is my favorite because it tastes what I imagine an Irish single pot still whiskey would taste if it were peated. At first I wasn't a fan of peated whiskeys, but after I revisited a year or so into my rabbit hole tumble into Irish whiskeys I came to love them. It brings a different character to the whiskey that's delicious. It's hard for me to overpay for bourbon when there are great single pot still Irish whiskeys and peated Scotchs available for MSRP.

Great selection of some of the very best peated whisky. If you want to save a little money & have something equal (or even better...) I'd try Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength. Stands toe to toe with Lore & costs about $30 less. Another recommendation (if you can find it) is Longrow Peated. It has a white label with rose gold lettering. Hi SBL. I’m from Scotland and I’m spoiled over here with all kinds of special whisky and distilleries on my doorstep. But there’s one I hope and pray you can get access to. It’s from the Annandale distillery, and it’s called “ the man of swords”, the founders range. It’s not overwhelming with peat, but it’s beautifully balanced . A stunning lightly peated whisky. I honestly think you will not be disappointed. Price maybe reasonably high, but its beautiful. Look out for it. I really recommend it. Wish you good health. Slainte mhath 👍🥃

Like or Dislike: Like, but with one critique. I'm the kind of whiskey lover who enjoys admiring the spirit's color as part of my drinking experience. The problem with scotch is one never knows if the color is natural or artificial. Color isn't important to everyone, but I personally would have appreciated knowing which of these scotches is colored and which is all natural.

Hey, I’m a Islay peat head, you need to stock Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength and Ardbeg Corryvreckan in your home bar, you can still get Laphroaig batch 012 on the internet for only $15 over retail and it’s a masterpiece, it’s stunning 👍
@slbdrinks

Thanks for the heads up! I do have the Corryvreckan, phenomenal, but need to add the Laphroig 10 cs.

I’m putting the Talisker 10 on my list to try. I usually bounce between Laphroaig 10 and Ardbeg 10.

Hope you like it! A bit more subdued on the peat but a very nice pour indeed!

Love PEAT! My wife says if it does not smell like a Sharpie marker, I don’t want to drink it. (But I drink lots of other Scotch, Irish, Rye, and Bourbon.) Another one I like and would add is Laphroaig Càirdeas (pronounced Car Chuss) aged in Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks. The only one of yours that I have not tasted is the Laphroaig Lore.

Not for everyone but I find it very enjoyable! If you are new to scotch try the Glenmorangie 10 yr. A good friend of mine recommended that bottle to me as a starter and I couldn’t agree more! Enjoy my friend!

Locking forward to try the Uigeadail. My first meeting with peated whisky was the Talisker 10. Took me about 3 sips to fell in love with the peat. If you haven’t tried the Caol Ila 12, you should. To me it´s almost as good as Lagavulin 16 for a much better price. At least where I live.

I'm surprised Ardbeg 10 yr wasn't on your list. At $55 it's steal! Also I recently picked up a bottle of Port Askaig 8 yr. It's a blend but it is a wonderful pour.

The first one I ever tried was Lagavulin 16 and I loved it. I have tried some Ardbeg and Laphroaig were a little over the top for me. Definitely takes some getting used to. Try the Lagavulin 11, it is also pretty tasty !! I visited the distillery on 2013 and if you ever get the chance it is worth the trip !!

Lagavulin is expense near you. Goes for about $80 in my area. I love all the bottles you showed but I would swap out the Lore for Wee Beastie since it is quite a bit cheaper. My favorite is octomore and supernova. I just picked up an Ardbeg Hypernova and I plan to crack it open soon.

I love your selections Kurt, Ardbeg and Port Charlotte are among my all time favorites, I think if life on planet earth was about to be ended a giant meteor I would be hanging out on my back deck with a big cigar and my bottle of Ugeadial. Trenton you really need to get up to speed on this stuff.. bourbon and Rye whiskeys are great but these peated scotch's are a whole other level!

Great list of pleated scotches. My son enjoys Lagavulin 16. It isn't my favorite. It turned me off to pleated whiskey for a while. Once I discovered Ardbeg and Port Charlotte, I was hooked on peat.

I think Talisker 10 is the most accessible Scotch here(or anywhere?). It's got the all the Islay Scotch maritime spirit, complexity and long finish, but keeps the possibly offensive notes in the background. Ardbeg is certainly interesting, but I get tennis-balls tinge in there that spoils the fun and thats kinda how it goes for me with others except Talisker - it's great...except some medicinal or industrial note. Sidenote - 1.5oz Schivas12 + 0.5oz Talisker10 makes for a hell of an Old Fashioned.

Kurt, we share a similar love of Islay and Wild Turkey. My only dissent would be the Laphroaig Lore (10 is better IMHO). I would pick up a bottle of Corryvrecken before the Lore for a similar price. That said...the Uigy is my absolute favorite whisky. Love the channel!

Ardbeg 10 is my favorite. Laphroig cask was a bit disappointing...short finish. Port Charlotte was sweet, with a gret long burn finish. lagavulin 16 is a solid, smooth choice.
