I'm a new bird owner (a larger parrot, not budgies), but I find so many of your videos are helpful and informative even for someone with a larger bird. Perches were something I did a ton of research on because it's one of the most critical items for your bird to stand on - I mean... they spend most of their time on one! I wish I knew how to do a better job CLEANING the perches... haha. I did read a lot of scary stuff about using items made of rope, and while my african grey *adores* his twisted rope swing ring perch, I'm nervous about the ingested string. I was glad you brought this up in your video. He has chewed some of the threads loose, so I hope trimming them back is enough to keep it safe.

You can make one out of tshirt yarn. It doesn't fray as easily!

There are some natural ropes that don’t have as many issues as the cotton and nylons. I’m not sure what exactly. Maybe unoiled sisal rope?

trimming loose threads should be fine. eventually it will probably get chewed enough that you'll need to replace it.

Thank you for making this video! I watch other bird channels and they always say how the normal bird perches are bad good their feet but never give any recommendations.

Funny! I just got a (barked) manzanita perch for my birds. I tend to enjoy the perches that I make! I have a Japanese maple and a lilac tree in the yard (although my birds seem to prefer the maple). How do you feel about dragon wood? I enjoy using those as well.
@firstclassstupid97

Ooohhh, mine love lilac! I love tying all sorts of structures with just wood and thin rope and they love playing and chewing on those :) I also love how easy to clean it is

u bake them.
@LGrian
@LGrian 4 года назад
She does a video on that. Look for the bird tree video :) But basically you need to soak in bleach water, bake in the oven (can skip this for large pieces if you really give then several day baking in the sun), and allow to sit in direct sunlight for several hours. Also if there is any sus bark that looks like it could hold mold, lichens, etc it should be stripped or sanded off Baking only is not sufficient. Only strong UV rays can kill molds and mildew spores that even bleach water and the oven cant
@Guncanmetehan
@Guncanmetehan 3 года назад
@@LGrian you shouldn't soak in bleach water wood perches.. only plastics and pvcs

I don't buy if I don't have to: Nearby my house there are huge pine trees with low branches or I use the Maple tree in my yard...branches fall off from the wind and I just place the branch in a large plant container that I can move into a sunny area filtered by a sheer drape. Then I give the birds a little spray of lukeward water and watch them turn around in many ways and fluff up their feathers and then preen their feathers. Lovely to watch and free for me !
@umberdandelion
@umberdandelion 4 года назад
A good alternative to rope perches are handmade t-shirt yarn perches! I couldn't find any youtube tutorials in english, but if you search "percha de trapillo" you can find it in Spanish and you just need to watch. It's really easy. They don't fray as easily as cotton rope perches, so it's safer for parrots.

Quick question: do the more slippery perches make it much easier for birds to fall? My bird is super clumsy which unfortunately makes him susceptible to falling. I do try my hardest to make sure he doesn't fall but he does :(

Hey flock talk, I'm sorry for commenting here again but I need your help: is there a way to wash properly sunflower seeds? A friend me let a sunflower sit in the sun for a month to get the seeds for my quaker but I'm afraid that they would be toxic for him as a treat because they're dirty. Thanks in advance❤️ I love your videos by the way

Newt is a maroon-bellied conure, if i remember correctly (pretty much the same as a green cheek conure in size). Mia is a blueberry xD lol. she's a pacific parrotlet, with a blue color mutation. the "normal" color is mostly lime green, but blue is a very common color mutation.

Yes they are and can be dangerous to your bird. If you notice any fraying take them out and don’t use them. If your bird doesn’t chew on them and there is no fraying on them then you don’t have to worry too much about them.
