Extar is the Best $429 I ever spent. Bought it on your recommendation. Never a malfunction. Added a linear comp. Added a sba3 brace. Added 510c Holosun. Added pic rails. Added light, added angled foregrip. Lol! Not $429 anymore but it’s great.
I freaking love this guy. He has literally helped me make every decision for my personal defene arsenal. I picked my pistols, carbines, higher caliber rifles, etc. all using his videos and I CANNOT stress enough how happy I was with each choice. Seriously, he puts the honest into honest outlaw haha.
You're on the right track but not 100% there. Best method is to get your hands on things. So many ranges have rentals/ monthly memberships where you can rent for free and just pay for ammo. I always tell people to get hands on practice with as much as you can. Guns are like cars, same operating basics, but each drive differently
@@sheldonjplanktonn I'm not paying to rent something when I can just watch this dude's videos and know that I am guaranteed to like the product (which has been my experience so far with him).
I always see these types of comments after I watch the entire video haha. this is still helpful though because I might end up watching it again before buying one..
My wife's home defense gun is the CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 7.7" bbl with flash can, SB folding brace right out of the box. I swaped out the safety for the reverse safety and delete right side "she is right handed like me thankfully", HB trigger, Magpul grip, Magpul hand stop and Sig red dot. She is not big into guns but, absolutely loves her Scorpion and is deadly accurate 75 yards and in. Perfect home defense given her comfort with the Scorpion, maximum ballistics, closest neighbors are 100+ yards away.
Kel tec sub 2000 was my first pcc that I got when I turned 18 and 5 years later after adding a kriss vector and multiple other firearms the kel tec is still one of my favorites
It's my only one, seriously a 9mm carbine is pretty limited in use. I've had one failure after 1600 rounds, a steel case didn't eject properly. I cleaned the gun and it's been fine ever since. That was at 1100 rounds since cleaning... So clean it every five or six hundred rounds and it's fantastic.
Kel Tec S2K owner here - bought the first gen when it was new for $275 at a gun show in California, 10 years later and it's still my PCC of choice. Still shoots reliably and accurately. I now have her furnished with an angled foregrip, gen 2 fore-end, rail covers, rubberized grip and a drum mag. I love it.
your budget series have really sold me. its rare on here in the YT gun world to find a great balance of true strong foundation of knowledge, no frills but still personable, and paying attention to the interest of the gen population in AFFORDABLE firearms. thanks for the content! subscribed for good
@@davidd680 “easily”?? Did they change the proprietary buffer tube? I mean, you can buy a Farrowtech adapter plate to mount a standard tube but they are $85. Whatever the case, I do like the new hand guard and linear comp.
@@davidd680 you just reminded me. I have my old tube and brace that I should probably sell to someone that bought that hideous new one. I installed an SBA3.
You are totally right about the Extar EP 9 , It's great, reliable and great looking carbine. Every time I go to the range people start asking me what is that and where I can get it. $449.00 can't be beat!! 🇺🇲 Made! Romeo 5, two 32 rounds Glock mags and an angle grip, the best home defense PCC.
I know it's not the shiny new thing in the room, but I'm always surprised nobody talks about the Beretta CX4. They are around $700 but I picked up a used one for $400 and it shares magazines with the pistols.
@@bensmith8682 I've never felt it lacked anything. Good irons, but there's a rail for a red dot. Rail on the side for a light. It's never choked on me.
I love my scorpion! I can’t even tell you how many thousands of rounds it has through it. Never a single problem with it. Nailing steel at 100 yards all day with it. Lightweight and fun to shoot, magazines available anywhere. I don’t know why everyone gives me crap for owning one. So many people say they are polymer trash and there no point to owning a PCC, just buy a rifle. Can’t tell you how often I hear that.
You can “no point in…” all the way up until you are back to needing a pistol as backup. Then you start over again. Eventually you are driving something over 11 tons full of things needing special stamps and licenses. In the end, whatever is most likely to be ready when you need it is the best solution for you. The host here insists on reliability, and he’s right.
To hell with what everyone thinks. My experience with the Scorpion has been about the same. An affordable PCC with tons of accessory options, but most importantly yes, its extremely accurate, I often switch between the CZ iron sights it came with, over to the Holosun 510 C. Its a great choice.
I’ve been a pcc lover for years now, even before it was fashionable and I’ve taken a lot of crap from the “use a rifle for home defense, there is no use for a pcc” crowd throughout the years. However, these pistol chasis that turn your glock and sig pistols into a pdw are starting to get good. And I do mean really good. Recover Tactical and MCK have some really good offerings for a great price. Those would be ideal for the majority of Americans who only own 1 gun which statistics say that’s the majority of gun owners. I’ve had a gen 3 g19 for years that I really didn’t enjoy shooting anymore and then I bought a 20/20 tactical brace from Recover Tactical. I slapped a red dot and a light along with the extra mag pouch on it and I’ve fallin in love with that old gun all over again. The point is, if you can’t afford a new pcc, Look into putting a pistol you already own into A pdw chasis.
The recover tactical is crap, i had one a few years ago and had to get rid of it, it’s uncomfortable to shoot and doesn’t make any sense. The CAA MCK and Macaroni (Micro Roni) are a waste of money, your gun inside the chassis will get dirty and clogged up really fast.
Thank You brother! It's a review you did that made me look and then purchased the Extra 9 . Your efforts to share with us your experience and knowledge of what to expect from a product! Your opinion of the pistol sold me. Approximately about 350 to maybe 500 ish. I don't count. Excellent performance,. The only malfunction was a Squibb load,. Cheap ammo. No issues with the pistol! Thank You brother for your help and love your show..
I'm glad you mentioned the Hi Point 9mm Carbine. I own the 9mm, .40 and .45 Hi Point carbines. I've never had any issues with either of them. Not a fan of the double magazines, but I love them. They do what I need them to do.
Mark there is a channel called mixup98 that did a review on a hipoint 45 carbine and some other magazines you can get that worked good for him! I plan on getting at least 1 hipoint carbine eventually, the 10mm can run 40 too is pretty cool!! have a good one!
Foxtrot Mike (FM) 9 with the 7 inch barrel is quite impressive. At 30 yards and less, it is like driving tacks, and still great beyond 30. Simply amazing. Also, wonderful customer support when I had a minor issue.
I also have the 7”. I initially had something go weird with the bolt. Had it shred some casings and a small blow-out, but they took great care of me, replaced it, and I haven’t had any problems since.
Ever try federal 147 grain subs? With a can mine wouldn't feed them for s***. Contacted them, sent it back. They returned it to me in a very timely fashion however the issue remains. I asked what they did to fix it they said cleaned and lubed......works fine. Bottom line, there isn't a feed ramp so the flat nose subs hang up by 1-2 mm. Round nose ball fed fine, haven't tried any HP's through it because I'm fed up with the whole experience. The configuration is 7 inch fm-9 tri-lug rear charging handle Glock 33 round factory mags. Can was dead air ghost m with their tri-lug adapter.
I bought an Extar EP9 a while back from one of your reviews and I love it. It has been an amazing addition to my arsenal. Love the EP9 and highly recommend. You cannot beat the price and the performance.
Its worth noting the new Gen 2 Extar EP9 comes with mlok handguard, flash hider and a new Extar brace, no more SB Tactical. and most important, they Gen 2 has a metal fire control group instead of polymer. Still only $450.
I bought the gen 1 and a big factor was honest outlaws review from before. I am happy with it. No malfunctions although I could only afford to put about 5-700 rounds through it. It seems like the later versions are better but I want to many other things to get another one. If I was going to upgrade I would probably throw a better optic on it. It will outshoot me all day.
Have an EP9 because of your video. I love it. I’ve told 5 different people to buy one... and they did. One of them is my daughter who, up until she got it, she hates guns. She named it Sancho.
Ill add to the EXTAR positive reviews. Got the Gen 2 just when it was released (didn’t even know they had a new version when ordered) and have had zero issues. Go for it if you’re on the fence!
The Ruger Charger and Carbines are great PCC’s. Never had and issue of any kind on mine. Pushing close to 1000 rounds through each of them. No problem recommending them to anyone
I picked up a Ruger pc charger then slapped a sb tactical brace and holosun green dot on there all for just under 1k. It's heavy as hell but just fine for close in work.
My Extar is a beast!! Nice Sight Mark red dot, flashlight, angled fore-grip, SBA brace, and many 30 round glock mags! Have put probably 1,500 rounds through it and not a single issue. I think I've cleaned it once. Just gotta slap a sling on it and it's done!🎯🎯🎯
Bought my brothers 2yo Extar EP9 set up with a bunch 33 round stick mags, foregrip and red dot a couple months back. Put a telescoping SB stock on it and now it's perfect. Its gotta be the least ammo sensitive thing I've ever used (fired every round of 30+ y.o. Saudi surplus ammo my dad had in a spare room). If another gun strikes and fails to fire I'll just toss the round in a mag for this thing and it'll fire without fail. It's also light, well made, and extremely reliable. Oh yeah super cheap also
Recently bought an extar ep9 gen 2 for around $560 out the door that’s because I also bought it’s carry case with it. Such a beautiful weapon, can’t wait to take her to the range.
Did you get it direct from extar? Looking at their site it's 477 for gun and case. I only ask because if you picked it up from a 3rd party you should be aware of the markup and may consider whether you want to do further business with them.
I got a SP9A3, ran around 1800 rounds through it with the straight mags. Only a few failures with the old school plastic ones. Still changed it out to a A3 Tactical Scorpion mag lower
I have the Gen 2 Extar EP9 thanks to the Outlaw's recommendations. While I have 4 9mm sub guns the EP9 is my fav. It's been flawless. 10 of 10 would buy again.
CZ is my go to. I also picked up the new evo3 plus. Love it. Id also consider a few PSA offerings for top 5 over some of the ones that made the list... The AKV and ARV are exceptional guns and they take scorpion mags (best PCC mags on the planet). If you've never handled a scorpion magazine you should, especially if you've been running Glock mag PCC's. Not even close between those 2
I'd argue that MPX mags are better long term due to the metal feed lips. I've had three Scorpion mags fail on the feed lips, where they'd crack and just dump the entire mag on the ground. Not great. I know the newer ones use different materials, but it's still polymer feed lips.
That's why you trash the stock CZ mags and get either PSA or Magpuls. No feed lip issues on either. However the Magpuls don't play well with some mag releases.
Beretta CX4 is my PCC currently. I like the look and feel of it and it's been 100% reliable for me after around 1000 rounds. I also like the pistol grip magazine feeding it has since it shortens the gun a couple of inches and makes reloading a natural hand-to-hand motion. I also just really like the appearance. I had an Extar EP9 before (purchased based on your review in part) but I had issues with it. Firing pin mechanism gunked up after a couple hundred rounds and consistently soft-struck. Also, it locks open with 1 round still in the mag (Glock and KCI brand both). It got serviced and it works fine minus the aforementioned issue and rare misfeeds. Still the bad experience and mediocre customer service left a sour taste and I sold it a while after getting the CX4.
I'm right there with you on the CX4, it's also my current PCC for the reasons you stated, plus it uses the same magazine as the Beretta 92 handgun. Just one less thing I have to worry about.
I just got a new shape used cx4 with 3 of the regular mags and 4 of the extended mags for $600 and I wanna get the upgraded trigger group but it's $200. It's crazy Beretta used a all plastic hammer in the cx4. They could a atleast had small steel squares glued to the hammer and small dimples to hold it in place. And only 1 place sells those upgrades for it and all the 1s from them for the cx4 would be like $500. Papa something or another I'd have to look em up again
STRIBOG A3 NOTES, for those that own them or are thinking about it. I have 2 of them and they both malfunction using the straight 30rd mags, reinforced or not, fully loaded or not. They both however, run flawlessly with the newer curved mags and straight 20rd mags. Both of which are easier to load as well. Hope this is helpful, great top 5.
Stribog A3 also come in Glock Mags or lowers you can change, but if you are going to buy a $300 lower, might as well get a Scorpion or the new Beretta PMX.
I've ordered one with both curved mag and modified stick mags from the a2 I believe all under 1k. I have nothing in my collection roller delay so I'm eager to get it and shoot it
Like many here, bought the Extar with cautious optimism based on many different reviews. I can honestly say it’s an awesome gun. My wife loves it… and if I’m gonna be totally honest, I actually like it slightly better than my scorpion. It’s just so light and soft shooting. Like mentioned in this video, I’d probably still go for the scorpion if things get real, but anything less than that (and maybe even that) Extar is the way to go.
I got my extar from a shop previously owned (estate sale) for about 350. I'd been looking at them before so that was a deal I couldn't pass up. The thing is ridiculously fun to shoot, super lightweight and will just keep spitting rounds out all day long. Because of this video I'm going to look at adding a fx9 to the collection but seriously if you're in the market for a PCC snag an Extar, best bang for fewest bucks.
I love polymer. Not afraid of it. I hear the Extar actually shoots great for a light blowback PCC. I cant afford the fancy ones. I could swing an Extar.
I have 2 extar EP9s... about 2k rounds combine... they are insanely good for the price!! Favorite on this list by miles! Availability is the only issue they sell out as fast as they are made ( i want a third!).
I can attest to the Extar ep9 . It’s the most inexpensive pcc on the market (excluding the Hipoints). They go on sale in 300 unit intervals. You want one you better get push notifications setup so as soon as they are available you’ll have all of twenty minutes to get your order in. Even in your cart it can be snatched away from you so act hastily. Upon arrival I found it to be aesthetically pleasing. The upper and lower are high strength polymers that explain why the price point is so low and affordable. It accepts Glock mags and loves fun sticks (33 round Glock) mags. They seat well and feed the ep9 like a growing baby on breast milk. I’ve put maybe a thousand rounds through it. Federal, Sig, Fiochii, Blazer, Patriot defense, Freedom munitions. All brass. No failures. The Stribog is much better built but has a strangely high bore axis. There’s a lot of real estate from the trigger to the top rail but functions very well. Same ammo as the ep9 and zero fails. Freedom ordnance FX9 was my first pcc 9 mm and they ran at $469 new some eight years ago. Now they are in the $700’s I believe but not worth the inflated pricing. It ran well but hated steel and aluminum cased rounds. Stove piping every other round with Aguila and remanned CCI I loaded myself. The brand new CZ scorpion with the new grip is amazing. That angled grip on the 3 and 2 was awkward imo and I often asked why they didn’t make a more vertical grip. CZ did it and it made greatness even better. This gun I could take into CQ battle without hesitation. Very, very fantastic and fun pcc. Run subsonics and a good can and you’ll find no need for ears. I’ve tested it in a basement audible running at 78-83 dcb spite others claiming 110 dcB outdoors. You can’t go wrong on a good pcc for home defense. It instills a lot of control and confidence to the user.
I bought the Scorpion a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. The 3+ micro is awesome, I added the 1913 backplate and SB tactical 1913 folder, and replacement charging handle. A holosun 507 green dot on a Pic mount and a binary trigger made it perfect, and fits nicely in a small backpack or edc bag. It's replaced my Zenith ZF-5P as my favorite, and the wife likes it enough she wants one of her own.
@@Sapper194th I just saw a vid about ALL holosun optics, it was awesome! But it alerted me that there’s a competition model with a HUGE view, which I find necessary for a rifle platform. I’m prob gonna invest in one.
Got the Ruger PC charger while waiting for the extar and I liked that as well. I know it’s like the carbine but fits the smaller PCC format and still have the detachable barrel.
Yessir, i got a Charger about year ago, put folding brace, front grip and holosun red dot on and ive never had more fun with a firearm. I can eat up an 8" plate at 30 yards.
Why does no one mention Foxtrot Mike? The FM9?? Last round bolt hold open Glock mags Side charging options 5", 7", 9", and 16" options For like $650 I'm super glad I chose it over the Extar with similar features. To me the extar just feels like a toy.
I haven’t seen the stribog close to $500 in several years. The best I’ve seen with the brace is typically around $800-900. With that being said, I love it. Switch to the curved mags and you’re good to go.
@@chriscoulter2784 I got mine at double M defense. They consistently have the best prices on stribogs. The deal with the brace was through GA Firing Line, but I think they were clearing them out for some reason.
While the Kalashnikov KP-9 is my favorite PCC that I own, the Freedom Ordinance FX-9 is also a gun I’ve really really enjoyed, and it’s a couple hundred bucks cheaper.
I absolutely love my Extar EP9.🎉 One common malfunction that I hear with them that I seem to be experiencing is that it keeps eating my mags and destroying the Feed Lip
There's a company, I don't remember the name, but you can easily research it, they have a plastic replacement to fix that issue. The metal is eating awat the plastic. Easy switch out. I saw their video on RU-vid a few months back. If I can find it again, I'll send the link.
@@gadgetstalker2 absolutely it doesn't happen to everyone and I've heard their simple solutions. I just take it a little bit slower when I load magazines and don't slam the bolt forward.
Thank you for adding the Ruger PC Carbine for us former Californians that bought one while they were in the gulag known as California. I actually really do like my PC Carbine.
Great Review! Loved it as always, one PCC we haven't seen you review is the Keltec Sub 2000 M-SERIES... I know Keltec is your thing. It would be cool to see you do a review of the base gun then get all the Mcarbo upgrades done to it.
Agree, The M-Series with the Mcarbo Operator package get you all the goodies. Not cheap but it would be an interesting comparison. I just bought one from Mcarbo as they are about five miles from where I live.
I've got most of them except the Extar so I can't speak to that but my AK-V is hands down my favorite PCC. Suppresses well, haven't had a singe malfunction, 35 rd mags..Love it
Right on time, I've been shopping for a PCC for a backpack/truck gun. The Ruger PC charger take down is at the top of my list so far. Hopefully this video gives me other options.
I’m quite partial to my PSA AKV, takes the same mags as a Scorpion. It’s quite modular in the fact that you can change the hand rail to mlok as well as picking your favorite pistol brace
Good stuff. I just recently entered the world of PCCs. Picked up a Diamondback DB9 - 9mm AR platform. Super fun gun. Just bought my pistol can yesterday! Now to wait…
Great video as always! I have to check that Extar EP9. Also please DO fight for your rights with 2A. Because hobbyist/Enthusiasts like me that currently lives in another country are also affected with all these suggested bans and other 2A Infringement! Forexample, CZ Scorpion Evo S1 here is around $2,800, CMMG Banshee 200 is $4,000, Sig MPX is $6,000. Box of MagTech 9mm (50 rounds) $70. Glock 45 MOS is $1,150 (which i just bought) Imagine if 9mm gets banned, price will skyrocket more. Oh, don't get me started with ARs and Stuff. CZ Bren is $8,000. Which civilians are not allowed to buy at the moment, we all just waiting for the bans of higher caliber rounds to be lifted.
Put 1,107 rounds of all sort of 9mm ammo through my Hi-Point 995TS and it never malfunctioned. Also, had a decent amount of rail space for a $240 carbine. And when I did have an issue, which didn't affect reliability but was an issue nonetheless, Hi-Points customer service was fantastic. Can't comment on their pistols other than that I've seen a .380 ACP Hi-Point just simply fail at the range and I've seen a couple .45 ACP Hi-Point pistols function flawlessly at the range.
I just got my extar today. Havnt had the chance to shoot it, but I see so many positive reviews for this gun, can't wait to upgrade it and put some rounds through it
I've got both the Ruger PC Charger and the Extar EP9 and I can't pick a favorite of the two. The Ruger has a better recoil impulse while the Extar is far easier to carry due to the weight. Either of them make for a great little home defense package.
Just when I really need some help I remembered H.O.'s reviews about guns I have no interest in. I just like his videos. For the past week I decided I needed a home defense gun with a suppressor. Had an incident at an indoor range and dropped my ear protection. 2 shooters running 158 grain .357. That made me rethink having to fire indoors at home. I don't like Patreon so I need another method to send a monetary Thank You. And my thanks to those that posted comments. Very helpful to someone like me that's looking for something far away from my wheelhouse.
The FX9 i like the concept of. The guys that designed it wanted to build a very usable gun for an affordable price. Made out of billet aluminum it's a decent gun.
I got the scropion as well. Basically shot exclusively suppressed, around a thousand rounds. Absolutely no issues. A lot of people like to bash them, say its for poors, etc, but i absolutely love mine
@@mboulanger2836 nope, if you get one just check the firing pin block actually works to block the firing pin when not engaged and you’ll be gtg. I believe CZ fixes that under warranty as they should for faulty ones
The steel insert in the polymer hammer of the Extar. Caused a fail end of range trip. Replaced the FCG and trigger with an ALG. Have not had an issue since. Great gun. Like my Stibog and Ruger as well. My fav is my UZI of course, it was well under 1k when I built it. I recently pieced together an Aero EPC9 8.3" with a Rainer arms bolt. It seems to get the most love these days.
Have a Stribog A1 (v2) that I got new with brace for $620 this year and it’s been flawless. Did the $20 HBi short stroke upgrade and curved mags and never had a malfunction. Would highly recommend
I think the KUSA KP-9 should be in there as well, at least an honorable mention seeing as it can be had mid to high 900s some places and it’s very reliable.
I'd add the Beretta CX-4. That was the original 9mm PCC I bought. Odd looking, and the sights leave something to be desired. However, it shoots and shoots and shoots and uses Beretta 92 series magazines (of which I have quite a few). I also have an Extar EP9, and it's set up as a home PDW. The Extar is excellent!
Love the Beretta CX-4. A little dated but the most accurate and reliable pcc I have shot. You're right about the sights: they are very good but too low and a pain to aquire, a red dot is almost mandatory. Also, the safety is stupidly stiff - I end up leaving it off at the range.
I love my scorpion. I've never had a malfunction with it either, but you do have to really jam the magazine in, especially if the gun is cold. If you put it in too gently, the mag won't fall out, but it won't feed either.
The Keltec sub 2000 is a pretty good one in my opinion. It has the backpackable fold in half option to it that not a lot of PCC‘s have, and people who have shot them say that they are absolute nail drivers. But knowing them intimately I know that they have their pros and cons as well and they balance each other pretty harshly. Adapters can make it take all sorts of different magazines, just like PC carbine, but unlike the PC carbine you have to press and hold the mag release and more often than not have to pull the mag in order to get it to drop out. GEN one versions can be gotten cheaper but GEN one versions also have a habit of needing owners to buy Loctite in order to keep screws from walking out. They made an integrally suppressed one for shot show two years ago, but I have yet to ever see one.
Haven’t shot my 2k nearly enough, but it is absolutley as accurate as you could ever hope for a gun to be. My biggest complaint is sighting in it is tight. Could rectify it with a red dot- but then it won’t fold. So maybe looking to trade now.
I have the cz Evo 3 s 2 that I absolutely love. Added a bunch of hb industries accessories and it’s untouchable (though during covid times I paid $1500). I also bought the extar ep9 on your recommendation and I agree with you it’s super reliable, recoil like a 22 and can’t beat the Glock mags and that sticker price. Nice vid!
Your videos are why I decided to purchase the FX-9. I got the 16" barrel variant, and put a simple red dot on it. Now I can use the exact same ammo that I use in my VP-9, and get the range and ballistics I'm looking for. Keep up the unbiased and outstandingly educational work you put into these videos. You haven't steered me wrong yet.
Thanks for this. I would have thought the Ruger would be higher but now that I see what you chose above it, I would have the same list just swapping the Ruger and the Stribog.
Nice review, everything is fairly evaluated as usual. I couldn't tell if you evaluated the version2 Extar EP9 or had upgraded your v1. The new version reflects feedback provided from previous owners, upgraded metal trigger group, M-loc forend (old one was pic rail) and front directed compensator saving your ears from an even louder report. All good stuff.
I picked up a Foxtrot Mike Ar-9 lower and a psa 8” upper back in the early months of 2019. Thing ran like a champ. Now I’ve upgraded it with quite a few things: YHM upper and handguard with a Ballistics Advantage 5.5” barrel, Geiselle trigger, Magpul furniture. Still one of my favorite pistols I’ve owned and upgraded.
